Riveting, gripping, and twisting. The Other Sister taunts any reasonable resolutions Charlotte Kane contrives. Caught in a vicious web of deceit and lies, Charlotte sees no way out. How does she not know about her other sister? This riveting novel will suck you in and hold you hostage as the story unfolds and the shocking truth emerges.
Charlotte’s life is filled with chaos. In addition, she receives word that her estranged mother died. Charlotte searches her mom’s apartment and discovers she has an identical twin sister, Acelynn Benedict, who was given up for adoption. Why didn’t they want her?
Acelynn has it all. Everything Charlotte longed for but never achieved. She connects with Acelynn, and things worsen, forcing Charlotte to assume her sister’s identity. But the life of the wealthy isn’t as glamorous as she dreamed. Something sinister was stirring in Acelynn’s adoptive family, and she was caught in the middle. Determined to find the truth, Charlotte presses forward, even though it could cost her life.

I’m almost at a loss for words as I’m trying to review this book. I’m giving it 5 stars. This book is a very intense psychological thriller. The characters feel real and have depth to them. This book is full of dark topics but there is a thread of light and truth running through it. This book has more twists and turns than a West Virginia mountain road!! Every time I thought I knew where we were going, the road took another turn and we went somewhere else. I never saw the ending coming!! This story is an allegory of an unsaved person in search of truth and meaning to life. The MC is a woman who has experienced severe trauma and she makes decisions based on that. Most of those decisions drag her further down the wrong road. Yet there are people that try to help her along the way and stand by her. She is constantly questioning herself and her motives, as well as the motives of others. She wonders if anyone is actually good. Fair warning, this book is quite dark at times and there are times when you know exactly what is going on behind closed doors (and opened ones!) even though it isn’t explicitly described. To me, that’s portraying life as it for unbelievers. Some Christians might find it a little “too much”. I would recommend this book for adults and more mature teenagers.

I couldn't put this book down. The book contains addiction, secrets, and other things. Charlotte lives a different life. Going from foster homes and living paycheck to paycheck. Acelynn lives a better life as a successful person. She’s also adopted to a successful family. Charlotte reach up to Acelynn during email and that how they'd met. On that tragic moment Charlotte has to live as Acelynn. While living as her twin sister Charlotte discovered something more about Acelynn. Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for giving me an opportunity to read this book and do a review.

The Other Sister was the most dark story I’ve read from Jessica R. Patch. Very sinister and deadly secrets at every turn. Hang on and pray on this roller coaster ride.

I received an advanced reader’s copy from Harlequin and Netgalley. Opinions are my own.

I did not see that ending coming! Author Jessica Patch has a way of hooking readers from the first sentence. Personally, reading The Other Sister was like riding a roller coaster - so many twists, turns, a number of audible "What!", and many (silent) screams! The characters are very well rounded and much to my chagrin, the characters and storyline were so believable I couldn't read this psychological thriller at night fearing the characters would pop up in my dreams! If you like clean psychological thrillers with hope, run (like someone is chasing you) to your favorite bookseller to preorder! Bravo, Jessica Patch, on another thrill ride!

5-star general market fiction

Jessica R. Patch delivers a psychological thriller in The Other Sister that probes the effects of trauma, the complexity of human depravity, and the faint glimmers of redemption. The story’s layered characters and twist-filled plot make for a compelling read, but the book’s darker tone and explicit content suggest it’s written with general market readers in mind, despite elements of faith woven into the narrative.

The story captures the raw realities of abuse, betrayal, and manipulation. Patch explores weighty topics like addiction and mental illness with unflinching honesty, but scenes such as Charlotte walking in on a couple engaged in sexual activity or her confronting violence and murder push the boundaries of what many Christian fiction readers may expect. While these moments enhance the novel’s gritty tone, they may alienate those seeking cleaner content or overt spiritual resolutions.

The faith element is present but understated, manifesting more as a subtle undercurrent than a guiding theme. Charlotte’s eventual reflections on mercy and redemption are impactful, yet they often feel secondary to the intense psychological and physical struggles she endures. Readers looking for clear depictions of Christian hope might find themselves wishing for greater balance between the darkness and light.

For fans of thrillers who can navigate mature and unsettling themes, The Other Sister offers an expertly crafted read. However, it leans heavily into the conventions of general market fiction and may not align with the expectations of more conservative Christian audiences.

Fantastic! This book hooked me from the start and wouldn’t let go until I finished. There are plenty of twists, turns and surprises when you least expect it. The characters, especially Charlotte, are well rounded and developed so that it keeps you reading because you can’t wait to see what happens. I thought I had figured out what was happening and who was doing what after I read about 50% of the book but I was totally shocked when I finished the book. I wasn’t even close. Patch keeps you guessing right to the end. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like thrillers that will have you on the edge of your seat. Charlotte Kane has had a difficult life with a drug addicted mother, being put into foster care and struggling to make money to pay for rent and food. When her mother dies, Charlotte finds out that she has a twin that grew up with parents, plenty of money and a successful career. All the things that Charlotte would love to have. Charlotte decides to contact her twin and that is when the thrills begin. Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! This book was amazing! I cannot wait (I hope) there is a followup as the book ended either as finished and the reader gets to imagine what happens next, or it was set up perfectly for the author to continue the story. I have loved all of Jessica R. Patch's books anyway, but this one was amazing. I loved the characters; I loved the twists and turns, and then MORE twists and turns. It was executed so well. There wasn't time for the reader to get bored. There was no "breather" moments because it was action and emotion and ... it was amazing! I admit, I was holding a (little bit) of a grudge with the author the way she ended The Garden Girls, but this book redeems that! We saw Asa and Christian in action again in this book. And I loved how the author played with my emotions ... having me feel deeply for the victim/criminal while at the same time reintroducing Christian who is on the good side of the law and being happy we've been reunited. And the epilogue???? Need I say more! Again, there is nothing about this book I didn't love. It was amazing and I only wish it had gone on longer, but in actuality, it was the perfect length. I was left at the end of the book craving more from this author but yet still thoroughly satisfied.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from netgalley and was not obligated to write a review. It was truly my pleasure to share about this book with others. All opinions are strictly my own.

Thank you to NetGalley, author Jessica R Patch and Harlequin publishing for the ARC and opportunity to review this book.

What a thrill ride it was! I couldn’t put it down. The author takes you on such a gripping twisted tale and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I was 100% convinced I had it all figured out at the 50% mark but was totally shocked to find out how wrong I actually was. It was a page turning thriller that I highly recommend!

In 'The Other Sister' author Jessica R. Patch does what she does best—pens a chilling, haunting tale filled with plenty of twists and turns!

Have you ever envied someone else's seemingly perfect life? Charlotte Kane yearns for a different existence, especially when she finds out she has a successful twin sister who has everything she doesn't. When circumstances enable Charlotte to assume her twin, Acelynn Benedict's idyllic identity . . . is everything as it seems in her sister's perfectly polished world? I couldn't help but think "be careful what you wish for" while reading this book filled with sinister secrets, betrayals, and deadly pretenses.

Warning: While the premise of this book is cleverly intriguing, this one may be too dark for more sensitive suspense fans. It was more of a twisted thriller and way "over the top" creepy—even for me and I've read many frightening suspense novels over the years. Although not graphically described, there were many allusions to sexual liaisons between different characters. This is something I don't care for (to this extent) in my Christian fiction reading. Nonetheless, Ms. Patch is definitely a brilliant suspense writer and if this doesn't bother you, give it a try!

Twisted tale! Charlotte Kane has had a rough start in life..addict mother, time in the foster system, strained finances and more. She learns that she has a twin. A twin with a mother, father and brother. A twin with a successful career and financial security. Charlotte covets a different life.

There are a number of unlikable characters in this novel, which means there a whole lot of possibilities for who is behind the bad things occurring. I guessed one of the bends in the road, but many others caught me by surprise. This novel grabbed from the beginning and didn't let go. The cover is perfect for the pages within.

The Other Sister drew me straight in from the beginning. I was hooked on this thriller which involves family secrets, danger, twists and turns, and a secret identity. One of Patch's other characters from her previous series makes a cameo appearance in this thriller. Patch skillfully crafted a hard to put down, twisty thriller with surprises that keeps readers guessing. The ending was a shocker for me.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
