In the second installment in the Girl Scouts series we follow Anika, a dog lover and budding artist who is having a bit of a difficult time in the friendship department. Her and her oldest friend just don’t seem to click anymore, and at home her mom is busy with lawyer work while her dad travels for work. To top it all off, her cranky old lady neighbor is in the hospital and Anika has been volunteered to watch her parrot.
Anika learns some valuable lessons about what it means to be responsible for a pet, and also learns the true meaning of the Girl Scout song about making new friends but keeping the old.
This is such an engaging and sweet chapter book that really does a great job of how being a Girl Scout can positively impact a girl’s life without the novel just being all about Girl Scouts. I would highly recommend this to patrons who love animals as well.

My seven year old daughter DEVOURED this one! As we have been talking about getting a new puppy, this book was a fun one to have in our back pocket to read together the last couple weeks.

Anika is a Girl Scout who has lots of hobbies! She wants a pet but her parents basically tell her she has to earn it. As a parent, this story is wonderful: it teaches grit and determination, has robust vocabulary, and a very wholesome storyline. This one was great and we really enjoyed it.

Ani, who loves drawing, has a passion for animals but her mother forbids her from having any. At school, her best friend Harper is more and more distant. Thankfully, the bright spot in Ani’s weeks is taking care of Wilbur, the neighbour’s rude parrot, until one day Wilbur gets scared of a stray dog in the garden.

The best parts about this book was the Indian French toast which sounds amazing and Ani’s friends from Girl Scouts - they do a reading out loud session at the animal shelter and have a great time when they’re together but most of the book is about how left out Ani feels - she has no best friend anymore and her mother has no time for her - and that wasn’t my cup of tea.

My endless thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins for this ARC!

This is a book for all ages! I’m 50 years old and I love reading children’s books as a pallet cleanser so to speak! This book being about a dog rescue (as the title says) really spoke to me because I love rescuing animals myself. This book is about a Girl Scout and her unlikely friendship with her grumpy and elderly neighbor and their rescue mission! It’s a very heart warming story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would read more from this author! I finished this in one sitting! 🩷
