Thank you NetGalley for allowing a preview of this book.
Evie Woods is known for creating stories that interweave historical fiction, otherwordly, and everyday life. The Mysterious Bakery on Rue de Paris is no different. The plot typically unveils the magic realized in daily life.
"...sometimes you need to throw a pebble into a tranquil pond to make some ripples."
Evie Woods writing style is simple. The characters in this book were typical and the outcome fairly predictable. There are french phrases throughout; some are translated, others you can come close to the interpretation based on the context, but if you have no knowledge of the French language then you may need to use a translator.

Edie leaves Ireland to find herself in Paris, but finds herself in the tiny town of Compiègne working in a local bakery on the Rue de Paris. The bakery needs help, but also has some secrets that Edie must figure out. I liked this one - so different yet still has the history that goes back to WWII mixed in! I have other books by this author & this one made me excited to read them!

A charming story of a woman finding a new life after the death of her mother. Throw in a little supernatural and you get a sweet heartwarming story. 31/2 ⭐️

Thank you to One More Chapter and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy of The Mysterious Bakery on Rue de Paris by Evie Woods.
“Magic doesn’t always sparkle—it rises like steam from warm bread.”
This enchanting contemporary novel with magical realism, Parisian charm, and a mysterious past. It explores healing, community, and self-discovery with sensory-rich writing and a dash of whimsy. Perfect for fans of The Lost Apothecary and The Keeper of Lost Things.
I’ll be sharing this review on Goodreads, Instagram, StoryGraph, B&N and Amazon.

I wasn't impressed with this book, it was because of the way the main character was written. At first at first I thought she was much older as she was repeatedly called middle-aged and then I came to find out that she's only twenty-nine. If twenty-nine is middle age what does that make me at fifty-eight? Almost dead? After the whole age thing threw me off she started acting very immature…After two dates, she believes she's found her soulmate and is getting googly-eyed with him. Then she finds out he's not what she thought he was or who she thought he was, so typical.
This book was so slow and predictable. I got it from NetGalley thinking it was a new release and it isn't a new book it's a re-release of the author’s earlier work and you can tell from the writing style. I will say I like the new cover better. This has me second-guessing the author’s other book on my to-read pile, The Lost Bookshop.
I wish there was more in the earlier timeline with Monsieur Moreau. I loved the few recipes that we got and again I wish there were more of them. I found that there were just too many plotlines and overall I felt the book missed many opportunities and I found it very cliched.

Thanks to Net Galley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. Edie Lane left Ireland seeking answers to her sadness and loneliness. Little did she know she would mistakenly arrive in Paris and be redirected to Compiegne where she would begin her new job in a bakery with many mysterious secrets.
What a delightful, magical read - reminiscent of The Lost Bookshop, Chocolate, and Like Water For Chocolate!

Edie Lane thinks she’s heading to a glamorous Parisian bakery, but a mistranslation lands her in the quiet town of Compiègne. What she finds there is far more magical than she imagined: a bakery steeped in history, a ghostly baker, and a community full of secrets and heart. The story gently explores grief, reinvention, and the unexpected places where we find belonging. The WWII backstory adds emotional depth, and the supernatural touches feel organic and enchanting. Highly recommend for lovers of historical fiction.

Evie Woods has done it again with The Mysterious Bakery on Rue de Paris, a beautifully written story that wraps you in warmth, wonder, and whimsy from the very first page. I was instantly drawn to the main character, Edie, and her emotional journey. Her character development is one of the most compelling parts of the book. We meet Edie at a low point, filled with uncertainty and yearning for change, but watching her grow into a stronger, more self-assured woman is both heartwarming and inspiring.
The setting is utterly enchanting. The small town of Compiègne, with its cobblestone streets and quaint charm, is brought vividly to life. The bakery at the heart of the story feels like a character in itself, steeped in mystery and magic. I absolutely loved the touches of magical realism throughout the book. The idea that a pastry could bring clarity, comfort, or even a bit of good fortune added a whimsical layer that made the story feel truly unique.
Woods masterfully blends themes of hope, healing, and self-discovery with lyrical prose and a touch of the fantastical. The pacing is just right, and the supporting cast of characters add charm and depth to Edie’s world. There’s a message here about finding joy in unexpected places and learning to trust life’s detours, and it’s delivered with grace and heart.
If you loved The Lost Bookshop or enjoy cozy stories filled with magic, soul, and strong character arcs, this book is for you. It left me smiling, a little teary, and definitely craving a croissant.
Highly recommend! This is a book I’ll be gifting to friends and rereading when I need a little dose of literary magic.

Beautiful descriptions of the town, the bakery, and of course, the food! A beautiful tying together of the past and present. My only wish is that the lovers to enemies to lovers trope didn't have to play such a role. Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the ARC.

Talk about hard to put down! Everything about this story had me hooked, from the setting to the characters and I absolutely loved this book. Brave Edith leaving home to work at a bakery in Paris (who hasn’t wanted to drop everything and run off to such a beautiful place?!?) and her many adventures along the way had me speeding through this story and now I’m sad it’s over! I loved all the characters and felt it was so very well written and paced just right for the reader to immerse themselves in the story. I cannot recommend this book enough!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were endearing and the story had some twists I did not see coming. A delightful read!

Everything that I've read from Evie Woods so far has absolute caught me up in the story line, the setting and the characters. Her latest novel is no different. Just as good, just as enjoyable to read. Thank you to NetGalley for the early copy!

I enjoyed this book. It moved a long quickly, the characters were well developed. Overall, it was a good time. I look forward to more books by this author in the future.

Thank you to Net Galley and Harper 360 for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This was a cute and cozy book. The story of a woman who is trying to discover her true passion in life, throw in a little bit of magic, some mystery, some history and romance, and this makes for an enjoyable read.

In this fascinating and charming new historical fiction novel, readers follow Edie Lane as she uproots her life in Ireland for life at a Parisian bakery -- except the bakery isn’t in Paris but in Compiegne. As she adjusted to life at the bakery, Edie starts discovering secrets about the bakery’s owner and its history, and it turns out that Edie needs to be in the bakery and that the bakery needs her. Charming, fascinating, and full of unique elements, readers will love this beautiful novel set in a cozy French village at an incredible bakery. The characters are the stars of the novel, and Edie is an interesting and complex protagonist whose motivations and internal struggles are deeply relatable and entertaining. Her relationships to other characters in Compiegne and to the bakery really help build out her character arc and the story’s plot, and the world-building is incredibly well done. The bakery’s history and the attention to detail really pull readers into the story, and the setting of the bakery is a great backdrop for the characters and their relationships. Entertaining, immersive, and detailed, readers will love this unique take on the mysterious/magical shop and dual timeline historical fiction novel.

Could not get into this. The writing felt very amateur, which I don't often think when reading. I tried to finish this over the course of many months, but I could not at any point read this without it feeling more like a chore. The idea and plot were not too bad, but the writing unfortunately took away from that potential. Although I didn’t enjoy this, there would certainly be audiences who have a better time reading than I did. I would recommend this as perhaps a ‘beach read’, or to people who want an extremely ‘light’ read. Not my thing.

Edie dreams of working in a bakery in Paris and takes a chance and ends up…not in Paris? After landing herself in a small town outside of Paris, Edie ends up learning at the bakery of a WWII baker’s family. Filled with mystery and magic and a little bit of romance, Edie finds herself working toward a cause greater than her own.

Edie is ready to start a new life. She has an exciting new job in Paris where she will be running a bakery. However, when she arrives she learns the bakery is not in Paris, but a small town an hour outside of Paris and the bakery isn't at all what she expected. She really wants this fresh start and she is determined to figure out how to survive in this tiny town with a boss who is nothing but mean to her.
This is such a heartwarming book. If you love french pastries and small town life, this is a must-read. The cast of characters is delightful. Evie Woods is quickly becoming one of my new favorite authors.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper 360 for the ARC of The Mysterious Bakery on Rue de Paris.

Ready for a new start in her life after the sad passing of her mother, Edith (Edie) Lane leaves Ireland for Paris. She applied on a job advertisement, a boulangerie in Paris is looking for a help in the shop, who will stay at the small apartment above the bakery. But when Edie steps out of the Eurostar, she finds out that the bakery is not in Paris at all. The bakery is located on Rue de Paris in a small cobblestone town of Compiègne, an hour from Paris by train. Truly not how she imagined her new life. After the long train travel to the town, she is welcomed not very warmly by the lady who is the owner of the bakery, Madame Moreau. The bakery is a bit mysterious, as Edie is working in the shop in the front serving customers, but is not allowed in the bakery itself at the back of the building. Who is baking the bread and the pastries, Madame Moreau and her cousin Manu? There are strange noises in the night, hears Edie, and she also finds a diary with recipes belonging to someone named Pieree Moreau, who owned the bakery during WWII. The clients of the bakery are all very nice, and Edie makes new friends in town, people give her tours of the town, and she meets Hugo. Hugo whose dad is out on closing the bakery because it is in deep debt. Hugo who tries to start a romance with Edie, untill she finds out about his plans. And she starts a plan to save the bakery..
This is the kind of book that immediately grabs your attention, and it keeps your attention untill the final page. The story is very well written with a strong and entertaining, and a littlebit mysterious storyline, and that same counts for the strong cast of characters. The character of Edie never got uninteresting, and as a reader you truly keep turning pages to find out what will happen next. Madame Moreau's past is tragic, and this still plays a part in her life in the present time, which also has to do with the mystery that surrounds the bakery. I loved how everything fell into place in the end and how the story was wrapped up. This books leaves you with a smile!
I truly enjoyed this entertaining book with a fantastic storyline and characters, I highly recommend reading it!
