Gretchen Rubin has really fascinating ideas, and I think there is plenty that is helpful in this book about developing good habits. None of this is research-based, so it lacks a leg to stand on, so to speak, but as long as the reader knows that going in, I think it does what any decent self-help book does--gives you some ideas to make changes that you'll have to evaluate based on what your own capabilities and circumstances are. Rubin is a great writer, which always makes it more enjoyable to read.

Rubin is one of my favorite writers working in the self-help genre today, and her books on habits are some of the most useful. Her guidance on how to make small changes that have huge, long-lasting life impacts is wonderful. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn how to motivate themselves!

I find Gretchen Rubin's books incredibly helpful and inspiring and "Better Than Before" is no different. The information and ideas that she presents in her books are really well-researched and presented in such a way (she backs up information with examples from her own life) that I walk away from her books inspired and ready to adapt the ideas into my own life, even though it's very different than Rubin's.

If you want ideas on how to boost you everyday happiness, look no further. Highly recommended.

Ever wonder why some people seem to be good at sticking with habits and others have trouble with follow through? Rubin explores this in her book, Better Than Before, where she identifies four personality types (aka Tendencies) : Upholders, who respond to external and internal motivators, Questioners, who question all expectations and do tasks only if they make sense to them, Rebels, who resist all expectations - both internal and external, and Obligers (me!), who meet outer expectations but have a harder time with internal expectations. This helped me in so many ways because I often wondered why I was such a rule follower but couldn't stick with anything I decided to do. Rubin explores more facets of personality in this fascinating read and helps people like me become (wait for it) Better Than Before!
