I think this is my favorite of the series and it will be hard to top. While the ongoing saga of Olympus unfolds we are given a sexy, steamy, endearing romance for the ages. I cannot praise this story enough. It also left me very excited for Zeus.

I was so looking forward to this book and I did not disappoint. It was enjoyable and funny and spicy and stressful and cute and just all the things. I don’t understand how each book gives me a new person that I say is my favorite.

Sweet Obsession is fantastic, but can’t be read as a standalone. The romance between Icarus and Poseidon is one of the best of the Dark Olympus series. Sweet Obsession also does two things that needed to happen at this point in the series. One it brings us firmly back into Olympus’s politics in the upper city. Two, by giving us more Hera and Zeus, and finally letting us meet Circe, it sets the hook for the final two books in the series.

At the end of Dark Restraint, Ariadne and The Minotaur are able to escape Olympus when the barrier falls because Icarus has taken Poseidon captive on the dock. That situation is quickly reversed with Poseidon becoming Icarus’s jailer. One of Poseidon’s men takes initiative and tortures Icarus to get more information about Circe, which Poseidon stops. Now Poseidon is a caretaker as well as a jailer, and Icarus decides it is to his advantage to seduce him. There is a danger when a relationship goes from manipulative seduction to romantic love that there will be a magical D. After all, Icarus is an accomplished seducer, why would he be so foolish as to fall in love with his target?

Katee Robert is too accomplished a writer to fall into that trap, so what we get is two characters taken by surprise. We get a buckling knee that changes everything. Poseidon flips the script on the power dynamics of their burgeoning relationship. Icarus, who knows better, is cracked open and real feelings are formed. I bought the insta love because Katee Robert gives us a mental emotional and physical foundation for it. Icarus and Poseidon are both tired of the games that have dominated their lives and the pressures created by Circe’s blockade make for an emotional crucible. I’ve enjoyed the Dark Olympus series, but I think this might be my favorite Katee Robert book since Your Dad Will Do.

I was always going to read the whole series, but I’m more interested now in how the next two books are going to resolve the overarching plot as well as get these relationships to a happily ever after. The politics are politicking hard in Sweet Obsession. As members of the Thirteen are scrambling to save the city and/or their own people, the structural problems in the system that gives the Thirteen their power are highlighted.

I received this as an advance reader copy from Sourcebooks and NetGalley. My opinions are my own, freely and honestly given.

What to say, what to say… this was… fine.
It’s a character driven book with focus on spice. There’s some story but I felt myself not caring about the story at all. It doesn’t seem to be properly thought out and it definitely wasn’t the main focus here. But that doesn’t matter. It was an easy to read little enemies (that never really act like enemies) to lovers and all in all fun.
I did enjoy it, it’s a nice book to read in between books with complicated worldbuilding, as this had basically none.
The whole „Greek mythology“ thing is kind of random, because at the end of the day the characters and places only have names that come from Greek mythology, however they’re not gods and it not set in what Olympus is supposed to be. It’s just a city named Olympus and characters like Zeus, Poseidon etc are simply job titles in this world.

I have to admit however that this is the 8th book in a series of standalones and I have not read any of the others, so maybe I was a little more confused about the world it’s set in that I would’ve been if I’d had read the others. But it also didn’t matter much, as I mentioned it wasn’t much world building here and so I could pick up on the setting rather easily.

All in all, I’d recommend if you like a little easy-to-read, spicy little gay romance.

I love the books in this series even when they get absolutely goofy and this volume is no different.

The author's note says that this is Robert's first gay love story and I think they did a great job with these characters. This one isn't a kink that I enjoy and I always feel like the romances in these stories are very quick to develop. But once you suspend your disbelief a little, these are fun and political stories that I enjoy every time.

For a quick, spicy, fun time read you can do no wrong with picking up a Katee Robert and Sweet Obsession is a fantastic addition to their backlog.

I'm in love with this whole series! I have loved Greek Mythology since reading it in my 8th grade English class. Katee Robert takes my love of mythology and triples my soft spot for it. Through her updated story lines, she takes the characters & stories we know & love and creates it in a world that resembles our own. I was engaged from the very start of Poseidon & Icarus's journey. Such an intriguing story!

Icarus is part of Circe's team & they take down the wall that has protected Olympus for centuries. Poseidon has captured him & needs to figure out how to retrieve the enemy's plans for future attacks. The attraction between these two characters is strong. As you read, you keep hoping there is a way for Icarus & Poseidon to figure out their paths. You will definitely root for these two enemies to become lovers! The struggle between doing what's right for everyone & doing what's right for you is constantly popping up in Sweet Obsession. It's a constant struggle that we humans deal with & watching it play out between these two characters makes them even more humanistic & not just gods.

Hot damn. This was a lot hotter than I thought it was going to be. Icarus and Poseidon’s relationship was next level. Even though Icarus was prisoner I feel like Poseidon didn’t know what he was signing up for when he saved/held Icarus

Firstly thank you so much NetGalley for the ARC for this book! I can’t believe I got a chance to read this before it came out!!

This is the 8th book in the Dark Olympus series so it is quite hard to give a review now without giving any spoilers.

The book kicks off where the last book finished and the events that unfolded there this time from Icarus and Poseidon’s POV.

I love that the overall series plot is really kicking it up a gear now, it feels l like we are getting to the crux of the storyline and finally getting our hands on some of the secrets that have been kept from us so far! The barrier has fallen so what does that mean now for Olympus? Who else will come for them and what will Circe do? Can the thirteen protect the city and themselves?

Poseidon is just the sweetest character, it’s clear that looks can be deceiving and although he comes across as this scary grumpy man he’s actually got a heart of gold. I do wish we had gotten a little bit more of him in the past books but I guess that’s intentional to make it a surprise when he’s like he is really.

I love Icarus’s development throughout this book with the help of Poseidon. So far we have only seen him in the past few books in snippets so it was nice to get watch his growth. He moves from this emotionally devoid character to this caring thoughtful person who sacrifices a lot for his people. They are exactly who each other needed!!

I enjoyed the change of scenery in this book from the upper city to the boat yard. I like the growing tension between Hera and Zeus and getting to know Athena more in the brief chapters she was there. I think she would be an interesting character if she had her own story.

As with all the other books it’s an easy quick read with a great storyline and interesting characters. I can’t wait for the final two instalments and the conclusion to Dark Olympus series!

Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the eARC and Dreamscape Media for the ALC.

Did Not Finish.

I’ve liked most of the Dark Olympus series (I’ve missed a few, just by lack of time, not interest) so a M/M pairing with Poseidon and Icarus was intriguing. But then some BDSM came into play (wasn’t expecting that, nor wanting that) and I just wasn’t into it. Sorry, but while I appreciate the switch (the brat was the dom!) but it just didn’t work for me. The narrators were top tier, though, and I almost continued to listen despite my disinterest in the content.

I absolutely adore this book and am blown away by how Robert continues to build this world of gods. Icarus is a mess and a menace and I could not love him more. Happy book birthday, boys!

Ohh I love this!
I’ll admit the last 2 books in the series weren’t my favorites, but this one is so great. It has it all: the amazing subplot, the romance between charismatic characters, and even a little plot twist.
Definitely one of the best in the series in my opinion.

I've been such a fan of Robert's and the Dark Olympus series since Neon Gods blew my mind years ago. Since then, the series has been some high highs and lately, some stories I wasn't as interested in. I think as the world-building has gotten more intricate, some of the background plot has taken precedence over the main romances which are what I came for. I really think this installment is a return to form for a series I love. It's wild to me that there are 8 books so far and we are nearing the end! I think this book had a really good balance of the overarching world-building and the main romance. Icarus and Poseiden have all the reasons in the world to not be together (one being that Poseidon is you know...keeping Icarus prisoner) yet keep being drawn to each other. I loved how Poseidon is a member of the thirteen and has all this power yet in the bedroom it is Icarus who takes charge. Robert does a great job with the power imbalance and the ending of this is just so lovely while also giving us a tease for what is to come.

This was the first book in the series where I was just as anxious about the romance as I was about the background plot elements. The stuff with Circe is coming to a head and I'm so curious to see what happens. I remain completely feral for Hera and Zeus's story because...oof. And what is Hermes up to????

Thank you so much to Sourcebooks and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy in exchange for an honest review.

There is something special about the combination of Greek mythology and Katee Robert. Sweet Obsession is beautifully dark, seductive and exhilarating. Poseidon and Icarus's story also has an angsty longing throughout the book that I loved so much.

🌈 MM romance
🌈 fantasy
🌈 enemies to lovers
🌈forced proximity
🌈 forbidden romance
🌈 BDSM

The upper city of Olympus is under thread by Circe and her fleet of military ships after the protective barrier is down. Icarus is caught by Poseidon and his crew while his sister runs away. The Thirteen has to be united if the citizens are to be saved. Icarus is the enemy. The captive. Poseidon knows he cannot trust him but there is something about him that's so calming and arousing. Icarus started using his seduction techniques to manipulate Poseidon into protecting him but soon he realises that Poseidon is good through and through. But are they doomed with the long history of two enemies?

I am always fascinated to read how Katee Robert delivers Greek mythology in a twisted way so smartly. Poseidon is one of the most powerful legacy chair in the Thirteen but he doesn't play games like the others. He is noble and honest and straightforward. He genuinely cares for his people. He doesn't rule by fear and corruption. He wants what's best for the city and is ready to do everything for that. That's why he surprised Icarus. He comes from an evil powerful family and his father was a monster who was recently killer. He has deep seated self loathing and vulnerability those he hides behind his fake charm and seduction. He has used his sex appeal to gather favors and blackmail material those would help him survive but Poseidon is so real. And he is disbalanced here specially when Poseidon shows the submissive side. The kink comes in and it was scorching hot. Even more because it's forbidden and they are in middle of a literal battle but every time they came together, nothing else mattered. The plot is fast paced with endless twists and mind games and political moves going on. No one can trust no one here. Poseidon made Icarus feel like someone can see him beyond his mask of flirt and seduction. And Icarus created a place to let all his responsibilities go and feel relaxed and safe for a while. The battle is not over yet but Poseidon and Icarus have their happily ever after while we readers are left wanting more from this explosive world.

I reviewed an early copy voluntarily

Sweet Obsession🔱

Sweet Obsession is the eighth book in the Dark Olympus series and this time focuses on Icarus and Poseidon❣️

War is upon Olympus…it’s only a matter of time before the barrier comes down…and when it does Ariadne and the Minotaur escape, leaving Icarus as the lone captive in an unlikely captor’s grip. Poseidon was thrust into his position decades ago and has led his people honourably. He is a gentle giant, with a heart of gold💛 Suffice to say he never expected Icarus to be the one person who would bring him to his knees.

I loved the ending, it brought tears to my eyes😢 Can’t wait to see what happens next and to find out what exactly happens with Circe. I received an advanced copy via Netgalley and willingly leave my honest review🙌

📖✨Book Review: Sweet Obsession by Katee Robert✨📖

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

The Dark Olympus series continues with Sweet Obsession, a steamy, high-stakes retelling of Poseidon and Icarus. This time, Katee Robert gives us an intense captor/captive romance against the backdrop of war-torn Olympus.

Poseidon is a reluctant jailer, keeping Icarus locked away as a bargaining chip. But the longer they’re together, the more his icy resolve melts. Meanwhile, Icarus—snarky, reckless, and deeply vulnerable—struggles against the growing tension between them. Their chemistry? Off the charts. The stakes? Life or death.

While the spice is as sizzling as ever, I found the pacing uneven. The romance unfolds quickly, but the political intrigue and external conflicts sometimes feel rushed. I wanted a deeper dive into the war threatening Olympus! That said, if you love forced proximity, enemies-to-lovers tension, and a broody hero with a soft heart, this one delivers.

Thank you, NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and Katee Robert for the ARC! Fans of the Dark Olympus series will enjoy this latest installment, even if it doesn’t quite soar as high as some of its predecessors. 💙🔥

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, but it felt a bit flat.

I struggled to connect with the characters—not just because I hadn’t read all the previous books but because, in my opinion, they weren’t explored deeply enough.
While I liked the chemistry between the main couple, the captive/captor dynamic fell short. It didn’t feel like there was an actual power imbalance, and given the book’s premise, I was expecting more tension related to this type of dynamic.

Besides, the pacing felt rushed, with any developments happening suddenly and sometimes without much explanation. Olympus as a setting remains confusing—characters have modern technology like phones and planes? I struggle to understand the logic or connection between Olympus and what we call "our world". Because some things weren’t clear, it was harder for me to stay immersed. On top of that, too many characters were introduced without adding much to the story, which made things even harder to follow. If you haven’t read the series in order, which was my case, it’s easy to get lost, so I recommend doing that!

That said, I still enjoy Katee Robert’s writing style, and the steamy scenes were well done. The romance had some sweet moments, and I liked the progression from something fake to real—I just wish there had been a tiny bit more emotional development.

This was a decent read, but it could have been stronger in world-building, character depth, and pacing.

I’d still read more from this author and series! I got excited about the next book coming out later this year. :)

Overall another solid book in the dark Olympus world! In previous books you don’t get to see much of Poseidon, so seeing him truly out of his shell in this book was amazing and we got to see he’s just too pure of a soul. Icarus and him have a bit of instalove on the surface but when the deeper feelings are revealed it’s not as much of an instalove moment. Poseidon honestly helps Icarus see the trauma that he’s been through and tells him it’s okay to not be okay.

3.5 ⭐️

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and Katee Robert for providing me this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts! This story picks up right where Dark Restraint ended, which is obviously where Icarus was in Poseidon’s custody. It’s really difficult to review this one without giving spoilers though 😩 The timeframe of this storyline takes place in a span of around a week, which could be a hit or miss but in the case of KR, it was a hit! She made it work perfectly.

Tropes:
- Opposites Attract
- Captor x Captive
- Open Door Spice

3.5/5 stars.
2.5/5 spice

Quick Summary: The plot thickens, but this addition has a prisoner X captor trope with Icarus and Poseidon.

Not much to say about this book besides that I found myself not really caring about Poseidon or Icarus as I felt like neither one of them had a lot of character development. I feel like the same thing was said over and over again during their POVs. Also I felt like the spicy scenes didn't hit as well as they have in past books.

I did enjoy the progress in the main plot and seeing the inner workings of the 13 and seeing the work together. I'm very excited to see what happens in the next book because of the ending of this book.

Overall, as I wasn't a big fan of this book and while it felt like it was a filler, I do recommend because it was easy to read and it does help to bridge the last book and the next book in the series.

Thank you to Netgalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and Katee Robert for an eARC in exchange for an honest review. I am forever grateful for this series and the opportunity to continue reading these books as ARCs.
