3.5 stars — I honestly struggled with what to rate this eighth installment of the Dark Olympus series, because on one hand, Sweet Obsession gave me plot over spice, but on the other….Sweet Obsession gave me plot over spice. This is a double edged sword, and I’ll start with the plot aspect — I’ve had some capital-Q Questions about the world building of this Olympus, and I really thought that with the “barrier” now having fallen, that we would get more backstory/lore surrounding that barrier now that Olympus is cracked wide open to the rest of the world. However, the events of the few days that this book takes place over are paced so slowly, I found myself getting bored. The most interesting part of the plot was the outsider perspective on the Zeus/Hera inter-marital feud. The events of this story got me itching for the next book…but it was unfortunately at the expense of enjoying this current one. Which leads me to the spice…Poseidon and Icarus were my personal most-anticipated match of the series…..They unfortunately fell flat. The captive-captor dynamic wasn’t really capitalized on at all, and it didn’t really provide any angst between Poseidon and Icarus. The spice was good, but I found it repetitive, and they seemed to fall in love way too quickly. What I did enjoy, however, were the characters as individuals. I enjoyed watching Icarus shed his selfish tendencies and Poseidon do the opposite and start making choices that will benefit his own personal well-being. Overall, this wasn’t the strongest installment of the series. It seems to me that as the series progresses, the books should be getting longer, but as they are remaining in the same ballpark of page/word count, the stories are feeling more rushed than the first 1-3 books. Anyway, Zeus and Hera, here we come.

On the midst of war, the barrier to Dark Olympus has fallen, and Circe is closing in to take over. This book features Poseidon and his “prisoner” Icarus. Icarus is a pawn in the war games, but Poseidon feels himself being drawn to him for more than that.

There’s a mutual attraction and the power dynamic seems to shift between closed door. Super spicy, great audio narration, the plot is developing and anxious to have the next book and get this wrapped up to see how it all ends!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Release date 4/1/25.

Sweet Obsession stars Icarus and Poseidon in a captive/captor romance where you wouldn't think the power play would work, but it really does. Poseidon carries the world on his shoulders and needs nothing more than to turn off his brain for a period of time. Icarus has lived his life peddling his body for secrets and if Poseidon needs a dom, he can be that man, for a price. What happens when the price is never negotiated and something like passion and love ignites? Well, Olympus is in for a crazy ride trying to get rid of a fleet of ships ready to burn them down and now their perceived enemy is sleeping with one of their own.

I did enjoy the novel, but for some reason it felt slower or more subdued to me. I still enjoyed the heck out of it and I was really happy for the couple by the end. Now to wait for Hera and Zeus's showdown in the next novel. I'm dying for the conclusion!!

Sweet Obsession by Katee Robert is a steamy and intense retelling of Poseidon and Icarus. The enemies-to-lovers dynamic was captivating, and I loved watching Icarus grow from selfish to selfless. Poseidon was a fascinating character—strong, structured, and unexpectedly tender. Their chemistry was off the charts, and the power dynamic kept me hooked.

The story had a great mix of action, politics, and emotion, making it a solid addition to the Dark Olympus series. Circe was a real threat, adding tension and stakes. If you love Greek mythology with spice and drama, this is a must-read!

While this retelling of Poseidon and Icarus had some great smut that kept me turning pages, the story itself felt like a bit of a filler. The plot didn’t fully captivate me, and at times, it felt like it dragged on. That being said, the chemistry between Poseidon and Icarus was very much a slow burn, and their tension made it a must-read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

The newest chapter in the Dark Olympus series. Whilst the 13 are scrambling to try and agree on a plan of action for the threat looming, just off the shore, lead by Circe, Poseidon is deciding his own plan of action for his captive, Icarus. As Poseidon deals with the heavy weight of protecting his people, even if some of the 13 would willingly sacrifice them for their own selfish gain, he finds himself drawn to Icarus in unexpected ways. Icarus finds himself in a strange position of wanting to help someone else rather than using his acquired knowledge for his own gain. As feelings begin to blosson tentatively between them, with the rest of the 13 arguing, backstabbing, and making quiet plans, can this newfound connection survive?

I enjoyed this book. It took a while to get into it, but once it picked up, I couldn't put it down.

I believe in small dom/large bottom supremacy. This is one of my favorite Dark Olympus books yet! I love the characters, and the spice was unique in the dynamic

Katee Robert has so cleverly taken the cautionary tale of a hubris-filled Icarus and crafted one of the more intriguing and beautiful love stories. The fall of Icarus for Poseidon was a brilliant and obsessive read, Icarus’s development throughout the story from self-centred to selfless was masterful. I loved the unique take on Poseidon, his quirks, mannerisms, need for structure and control was so perfect for him. The resulting relationship and power dynamic was intriguing and so well written that I think I’ve fallen in love with their love, Sweet Obsession really is the perfect title for their story.

I am someone who will 100% read whatever Katee Roberts writes, and this book didn’t disappoint.

The next instalment of the Neon Gods series share’s Poseidon and Icarus’ story. Poseidon was a beautifully written character and Icarus’ character development was sublime.

This gave a great next step in the overarching storyline whilst also telling a beautiful story for the next set of characters.

One of the sweetest endings I’ve read in some time, beautiful

Lately I've been struggling with Katee Roberts and her books. The Dark Olympus saga had a nice set up but I kept losing interest.

In Sweet obsession the pacing was so off, the characters had no chemistry e I was not interested in reading about either of them.

I think I won't continue with the series,

Thank you NetGalley for the arc. All opinions are my own.

Sweet Obsession dives into the eighth thrilling book of the Dark Olympus saga! Make sure you've gobbled up the previous stories to savor every twist and turn!

Picking up right where Dark Restraint left us hanging, Icarus finds himself in the hot seat, wrestling with the wrath of the Thirteen and holding the weight of his father's Olympian antics. Enter Poseidon, the elusive figure who's been a whisper in the wind until now. Though he swims in the same circle, he's not one for the "bang-bang, ask later" ethos. And while Icarus might look like a dashing heartthrob, don't be fooled—he's got his own crafty tricks up his sleeve.

I can't wait to see where this rollercoaster of a series will take us next!

I love this world so much! I am always anticipating a new addition to the series. Not my favorite, but still enjoyed it. This book was very on brand with what to expect from Katee Robert. My obsession with this series is still in effect as we await the next installment. Solid 4 out of 5 stars

3.75/4 Stars

The Dark Olympus series continues on with another solid installment from Katee Robert. In this 8th installment, we begin RIGHT where Dark Restraint left off, with Icarus now being held captive by Poseidon while the rest of Olympus deals with the threat that is upon them.

Katee can truly do no wrong in their books. This may start as a captive/captor situation, but Icarus is not a man to let himself get stuck in a helpless situation. He grew up with an awful, abusive father and has always had to use his brain (and body) to get his way. And Poseidon may be a large man, but he has a gentle heart and Icarus has no doubt that he can seduce his way into freedom.

I loved this take on Poseidon and Icarus. It was a very fast burn, with the lust between the two being there pretty quick and interest (and circumstance) having them move fast. I love how the power dynamic was dealt with though, and how hesitant Poseidon was to do anything that would impact Icarus. Katee always does a fantastic job in the spice department, and this one is no different. It has a little kink and pain play involved, but also so much heart.

Icarus had a lot of growth throughout this book. He started out as the playboy son of Minos, enemy of Olympus who will do whatever it takes to gain his freedom. He doesn’t really care about anyone but his sister and will find a way to get back to her again. But throughout the book, he really starts to open up and we see the man he is inside. He also starts to see how corrupt these governing bodies are (both in Olympus and Aeaea) and what role he could have in turning that around. Poseidon also has a bit of growth in coming to terms with his role on the Thirteen and his responsibility to Olympus. I really enjoyed seeing some of their growth both as individuals and how their relationship pushed the other to be better.

We also furthered the plot with the person knocking on Olympus’ door and the plot set us up VERY nicely for Zeus and Hera’s book next. I cannot WAIT to see the icy exterior on Zeus crack and just know that those two enemies who happen to be married are going to bring FIRE down on Olympus.

While I had a fantastic time with this one, it did feel like it lacked a little of the depth of connection between the two MMCs like we normally get. They were still great, but I think that I would have liked a little bit more of them getting to know one another and really seeing that connection for it to be perfect for me. It wasn't my favorite of the Dark Olympus books, but still a really solid installment and an enjoyable, quick-read!

Overall, another fantastic installment of DO. The spice is hot, the characters are engaging, and the plot continues to thicken!

This is the next installment in the erotic Dark Olympus series. Circe, former Hera and great enemy of Olympus, has positioned ships in the waters around the city-state that appear ready for attack. Poseidon pledges to protect his people, but the politics involved in dealing with the ruling council takes all of his patience. Then there is the problem of Icarus, who, as the book opens, has just failed in killing him. Icarus becomes Poseidon's captive, then his lover, and then his true love. But can Icarus be trusted with the plans to save Olympus, not to mention Poseidon's heart?

Another incredible book in the Dark Olympus series.

I still have a couple of books in this series left to read, but I can't get enough of them.
Not only is the spice incredible, but the conversations and character interactions are also exceptional. The world Katee Robert has created is so interesting and I Iove all the political intrigue as well as the relationships between the characters.

I haven't read all of the books in this series, I haven't read the prior book yet, but I don't think that was an issue. Yes, it starts off right after the last book, but I learned what I needed to know to enjoy this one. I gotta say I don't really know why I enjoy these books so much as on paper they don't seem like they would be for me, but I do. I am not that big of a Greek gods fan, I don't really know who they are besides their names, but I love seeing them fall in love. And I'm enjoying the overarching story as well.

This is the story of Icarus and Poseidon. Icarus who is held captive by Poseidon. It was so much fun. I really enjoyed the interactions between these two. How they both saw the other person for who they are and how good they both are. Poseidon is a great example to Icarus of how you can lead by something other than fear. That there are good people who have power even if they are rare. I can't really say much else without spoiling things, but if you enjoyed the other books in this series you will probably enjoy this one. It was so much fun and I am looking forward to what comes next.
