Katee Robert has an absolutely magical way of turning myths into something new and exciting. This story of Icarus and Poseidon was one I never thought of as a reality but after reading this book, I feel as though Katee Robert’s has rewrote Greek Myth for me. Her writing was just superb as always.
I will say some parts did drag out a little bit and others I didn’t connect with but those were minimal in comparison to the whole story.

I received this eARC from NetGalley (thank goodness because this series has been living rent free since I finished reading Dark Restraint)! I loved Icarus’s and Poseidon’s story, the tenderness and respect between the two was wonderful…we love a man who calmly talks through disagreements (and a man who talks you through it). Overall, it was a phenomenal love story, and it sets up well for the next book. Also godbless Katee for not leaving us on a massive cliffhanger because I don’t know if I would’ve survived waiting until the next book if there was one!

I wanted to love Sweet Obsessions, but at 35%, I knew this one wasn’t for me. Katee Robert’s Dark Olympus series has been a hit-or-miss journey, and unfortunately, this installment leans toward the latter.
The setup had promise—Poseidon, the gruff and duty-bound warrior, and Icarus, the so-called enemy who may not be so villainous after all. The captor/captive dynamic, the tension of Olympus on the brink of collapse, and the potential for a slow-burn, forbidden romance all sounded like the perfect ingredients for an addicting read. But instead, the pacing felt sluggish, the chemistry lacked spark, and I struggled to connect with either character.
Icarus, in particular, felt underdeveloped. His personality seemed inconsistent, bouncing between bratty and vulnerable in a way that felt more forced than organic. Poseidon had potential as a broody protector, but he read as flat and unmemorable. The push and pull between them wasn’t enough to keep me invested, and by the time I hit the 35% mark, I realized I didn’t care about the outcome of their relationship—or the war looming over Olympus.
I typically love Katee Robert’s signature blend of heat and emotional depth, but Sweet Obsessions felt like it was missing both. Maybe it picks up in the second half, but for me, the slow pacing, lackluster chemistry, and uneven character development made this one a DNF.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I’m usually a fan of this author’s work but this book I don’t know why but I just couldn’t get into it I’m found myself finding it hard to even pick up the book at times but I did find it to be an alright read like a dead in the middle meh read

Since I had read first few books of this series and enjoyed them I thought this book will be the same for me. I absolutely loved the captor/captee dynamic but for me the insta love/lust didnt sit right. Also for people who might have read first few books, the book can get a bit complicated in terms of details and world building.

Katee Robert writes a book so I must read it 😁 I love this series and can’t wait to read the rest. So sooo good! Highly recommend

This book was exactly what I needed to restore my faith in this series. A tender romance inside the political twists that have kept me in this world, this was a much stronger entry in my opinion than the last couple.
This is the first fully MLM romance I’ve read and while I probably won’t seek them out it was a nice change to try.
Book nine is the one I’ve been waiting for, so December can’t get here fast enough!

I have read many many Katee Robert books. I’m personally ready for this series to come to a close and we are getting so close to the end of the story now! I liked it but I’m losing a little bit of steam on Olympus, ya know?

The last two dark Olympus books have been pretty meh for me, but this one was not! I loved the character development.
Poseidon’s strong moral compass and up front-ness really resonated with me.

I’m a big Katee fan and have read all of the other Olympus books so I was so excited to be permitted an arc of this!
I haven’t read much MM but I definitely will be after this because the spice was spicing!
Can’t wait for Katee’s next instalment in this series!

Each one in this series becomes more and more like a plot line not seen through. It feels so overdone and like it should’ve ended several books ago.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc!
Robert does it again! Shouldn’t be surprised that I enjoyed this very much. I particularly liked experiencing a MM pairing which I think is a first for Robert.

Another great addition to the series. The drama in Olympus is steadily ramping up! This was a nice balance of spice, sweet scenes, and pushing forward the main plot line of the series. I initially wasn't sure about a Poseidon/Icarus romance but boy does it work well. I like how Robert reverses some of the typical roles and expectations. I hadn't realized this until reading the acknowledgements at the end of the book but this is Robert's first MLM gay couple book. There are a lot of throuple etc. but not solo gay couple. This pairing was worth the wait. She did such a good job pairing them up. Their sweetness compared to the supposed hard edges they show the world made the characters feel well rounded and true. I did have a few moments where I questioned all of this happening in what amount to about a week but that was easy to look over with how well the overall story and the characters themselves worked together. I would have been unsatisfied if not for the epilogue. It would have felt incomplete but the epilogue gave me hope and also more hunger to see how the next two books go. I can't wait to see what awaits Olympus next.

Another enjoyable edition to the dark Olympus series. I am getting ready to just know what the overer arching plot is going to end up being.

First things first, full disclosure: this is my first Katee Robert book, so I went into this without having read the previous books in the Neon Gods series (although the intro notes at the beginning helped to understand what's going on as did a very thorough 'previously on' from a friend who is a huge fan).
I enjoyed this very much. The central couple are quite adorable. Icarus - a smart, sassy young man with a sharp tongue and a lot of trauma. Poseidon - kind, caring, solid as a rock and tired as hell. I guess it is technically an enemies-to-lovers story, but the plot moves at such breakneck speed that the enemies bit is mostly over in a chapter or two. Both are immensely likeable, and the dual POV is definitely appreciated here - you get to spend equal time in each of their heads and you get to understand both of them better. Sex scenes also make sense and feel organic - they are both steamy and help to get to know both of them too.
The main plot felt a little convoluted, but I followed it without much trouble and a couple of characters who appeared caught my attention enough to make me want to read the other books too.
The only thing that bothered me was just how quickly things moved - I understand why they had to, but it still felt too fast for me.
Overall, a solid read with a lovely, kinky, sort of enemies-to-lovers couple at its center and a well-deserved HEA.
Thanks to NetGalley and the writer for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was so good! I really enjoyed Poseidon and Icarus’ dynamic. I related to Poseidon so much with the constant overwhelm and heaviness of life. Sub/dom spice that was absolutely delicious. I’m dying to know what happens in Olympus next!

Thank you to sourcebooks Casablanca for the earc, all opinions are my own.
I really have enjoyed this series overall but I really feel like nothing happened in this book. The first 60% were in the same location and just talking in circles. I’m so sick of seeing the words big guy and my/our people. Poseidon and Icarus relationship was fine overall, but VERY trauma bond and instant love. I’m very much looking forward to Zeus and Hera and do see how much set up took place for that to occur.

This is my favourite Dark Olympus story yet! I had a blast reading Poseidon and Icarus’ story. I have such a soft spot for both of them and this story just completely solidified it. They are so perfectly perfect for each other and they fight to keep it. It explores safe kink exploration, and direct communication. Lots of representations in this book with MM lead characters, diverse cast in race and gender, body positivity, larger body MMC, alludes to an MMC being on the spectrum. I loved that Katee adds in real world things like knees creaking and popping, needing time “to prepare” before next steps, all great additions that make it feel real.
Poseidon is relatable AF in his view of life, and Icarus is just such a sad boy on the inside that you can’t help but want to give him a hug. They fit together so well. I was really looking forward to this one and she blew me out of the water (teehee Poseidon pun) I loved to continuation of the Olympus story line and can’t wait to get the next book! Let’s go Zeus and Hera
Thank you so much to Katee for the story and the publishers for this amazing ARC opportunity. I am always so pleased to get a Katee Robert approval

OOOO BOY things are going down in Olympus! (And only one of them is Icarus 😉)
Jokes aside, “Sweet Obsession” is once again a perfectly balanced mix of romantic storyline and outside plot, blending romance and suspense seamlessly. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a romance between Poseidon and Icarus, and it turns out they are THE SOFTEST BOIS EVER. JFC my HEART. Those two are so perfect for each other, and the way they love each other soft (while f*cking hard) was flawlessly executed.
“Sweet Obsession” is out April 1st, and obviously I highly recommend it along with the rest of the series. 5 stars!

🐚❤️ Sweet Obsession ARC Review ❤️🐚
Thank you so much to Katee Robert and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read and review this book!!
Sweet Obsession is a contemporary fantasy MM romance and book 8 in the Dark Olympus series. Poseidon has a problem - he’s captured Icarus and now doesn’t know what to do with him. Icarus is just trying to survive, but feels an undeniable attraction to Poseidon. Can they both overcome their differences and learn to work together?
This was an interesting read. I enjoyed Poseidon as a character in general and I thought he was a good match for Icarus. However, this book was very insta-love which is a trope I tend to struggle with, and because of that I felt like we really didn’t learn much about these characters aside from what we learned in just a few days of interaction. I do enjoy this world and this series, but I think I was hoping for a little more depth from Poseidon and Icarus outside of their shared traumas
Overall this was a three star read. I enjoyed the characters and the story in general, but I just felt like I wanted to know more about them outside of their trauma bonding. This book does have some potential triggers, so please check if you’re sensitive. This book did have some good smut throughout the book with a splash of kink, so overall three flames for spice
If you’re a fan of MM romance with forced proximity, interesting power dynamics and a strong overarching plot, then absolutely pick this one up. While this can be read as a standalone, I absolutely recommend reading this series in order as there’s plot dynamics that overlap from previous books.
