This is one of my favorite books from the Dark Olympus series - I loved Icarus and Poseidon and the way their broken selves begin to heal with each other.
Olympus is close to falling. The Thirteen can't agree on whether to go to war or anything else, for that matter, but Poseidon, one of the three legacy members, is the first line of defense against the enemy. He never wanted the title, but he cares for his people, and now he has captured Icarus and does not know quite what to do with him.
Icarus is used to seducing information and whatever else he needs from others, and has enough information to keep himself safe - he hopes. He also realizes that many will not survive the upcoming war and preemptively counts himself as one of the casualties to come. But his attraction to Poseidon goes beyond the need for keeping himself alive, and as he slowly peels away each layer, his heart begins to yearn.
Katee Robert does spice so well - but she also gives these characters so much depth that they soon become more than the broad sketch of how they present themselves to everyone else. This was a lovely story and I can't wait for the next book!

I absolutely loved the romance between Poseidon and Icarus! It definitely held aspects of instalust at the beginning, but I definitely bought into the connection between the two of them as the story progressed. Their communication, once the hard boundary of “no lying” was achieved, was wonderful. It was incredibly honest and they allowed one another to really see each other. This book really satisfied me in terms of the relationship between Poseidon and Icarus.
This book feels like a good mix of the romance plot line and the plot line that is pushing the story ever forward. The relationship was never overshadowed and I really appreciate that - that could have very easily happened. It was definitely a fast paced book. I feel like I never slowed down while reading it. I just ate up every page.
I can’t even wait for the next book - Zeus and Hera!!!! I think I might die.

I liked this one a little more than the previous one, butttttttttttt that’s probably because it deals with Poseidon, & he’s my favorite god.
I was really rooting for Icarus. He’s written as a selfish self-serving character who only cares for himself (and his sister), but he really has layers, & I enjoyed seeing them peeled back. Seeing Poseidon in a different viewpoint (not super domineering) was also really refreshing.
She also shouted out EPIC the Musical in her acknowledgements so I automatically added a star😂💅🏼

The Dark Olympus series has finally reached a boiling point where the barrier has fallen and the future of Olympus hangs in the balance. The plot progression in this book occurred at a faster rate than the first half of the series. Inching closer to a confrontation with Circe, Robert attempts to balance the captor-captive dynamic between two characters that, truthfully, read like side characters in their own story. I would attribute this to the lack of time and teasers we had in the past few books with these characters compared to say, Hermes and Hera's future stories. While the moments between them were raw and vulnerable, it was hard to connect with them compared to the first few books in the series. Overall, an adequate addition to the series as we enter the endgame of Olympus's downfall.

Poseidon has Circe and her fleet in his waters and Icarus as his captive. Icarus knows his best chance of survival is to make Poseidon feel something for him, but neither expect the true relationship that begins to form as the uncover each other's vulnerabilities.
I thought this dig a great job of balancing the main relationship with setting up for Zeus and Hera's book next. I felt like there weren't a lot of answered questions with the larger plot, but I enjoyed it.

I love this series, even if I didn’t love Dark Restraint.
That being said, this one was fun! It’s strictly M/M, although both main characters have taken lovers of other genders. I’ve been intrigued about Poseidon for a while, so it was really fun to actually see into his rather private life. I really like the power dynamic between Icarus and Poseidon, even if I personally am not into pain play. The plot line still follows from the rest of the series and gets pretty intense in parts with all the political upheaval. I honestly can’t think KR enough for the epilogue, I might’ve died not knowing how their relationship ends until the end of the series. I was so nervous reading the last few chapters, knowing they wouldn’t be reunited until after the war.
These definitely do have smut, but there is a nice (albeit confusing when you take breaks between them) overarching plot, and one I am thoroughly enjoying. My only wish is that there was an intro explicitly saying who is currently in each title, as I could not remember who now holds Aphrodite and Hephaestus. The musewatch is very helpful though!
Great representation as always, and as I’ve said from the moment Callisto and Perseus were wed…. I. Need. Hera. And. Zeus.

“It won’t be enough until I possess him fully”
Poseidon and Icarus were absolutely on fire for this best installation in the Dark Olympus series !!! They were absolutely madly into one another. Would I have expected Poiseidon as the submissive one ? I don’t think so. But the crazy and most amazing thing about this auntie is the way she completely changes some of the dynamics on the Olympus to make them mad, thrilling and exciting at the same time. The war is about to start in Olympus and the Thirteen are all against one another. The three big needs to reunite and in the meantime Poiseidon is protecting Icarus. Only the seduction starts and it’s impossible to break. And when he gives in … what a sweet adventure it is!!! A bit of BDSM thrown in the mix but all with an underlying kindness and gentleness that I was not expecting to find !!! I’m even more obsessed with this series than I was before. Every time is a new emotion, a new journey and it always leaves me a bit hot and bothered !!! Hades and Persephone’s story might still be my favourite one so far but I’m missing a bunch of books that I need to get to asap !!! For now, I can’t wait for this to be out and for the next installation to come in !!!
“I don’t want to think anymore. I don’t want to worry anymore. I donor want to keep pretending I have the answers. Even if it’s only for a little while. Hurt me. Fuck me. Do whatever you want. As long as I don’t have to think anymore”

This book was okay! It was a take on a greek mythology story, so it was a unique twist on it, but it still felt pretty generic with all of the past examples of this
Thank you to NetGalley, to the author, and to the publisher for this complimentary ARC in exchange for my honest review!!!

Four and a half
Oh my this book took me totally by surprise ! I don't read MM romance very often so was really happy that this couple resonated with me. Icarus and Poseidon are so completely opposite and yet in so many ways complete each other.
As this starts Icarus is the prisoner of big, scary Poseidon and yet he quickly turns the tables. Poseidon has the most protective nature and gives his all to protect his people and Olympus but he is completely blindsided by the gorgeous and ever so charming Icarus. Maybe Poseidon has needs of his own ?
This certainly pulled this journey we are on with the author in a whole new direction. War is coming to Olympus no matter what the Thirteen want to believe. Circe has vengeance in her heart and with Zeus and Hera at odds it might just make them easy pickings !
The romance between this couple was a joy to read. Icarus has been treated appallingly and if truthful has virtually no expectations of a happy life and yet gentle Poseidon is a huge revelation to both him and yes also this reader. We get passion but I found this to actually be a sweet romance that left me smiling for this couple.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Another fantastic instalment in the series! I squealed when I got approved for the ARC! I always love a good captive/captor romance, not going to lie. Excellent!

Katee Robert’s Sweet Obsession is a tantalizing, modern reimagining of Poseidon and Icarus, brimming with passion, tension, and high stakes. Set against the backdrop of Olympus on the brink of war, the dynamic between Poseidon and Icarus crackles with irresistible chemistry and emotional depth. Their journey from enemies to something more is as heartfelt as it is steamy, with each character revealing unexpected layers. With its scorching romance and a gripping plot, this is a must-read for fans of bold and modern mythological retellings.

🌟🌟🌟
Icarus may not have flown particularly close to the sun, but he has fallen right into the rough hands of Olympus's own Poseidon. Being held captive by the gentle giant wouldn't be so bad if Olympus wasn't on the eve of destruction.
The Sweet Obsession is book 8 in the Dark Olympus series by Katee Roberts and shouldn't be read as a standalone. This is the first M/M romance I have read, and honestly, Katee Roberts did a great job. She handled this romance with care, and it shows in the storyline. This book is mainly plot-driven, so if you are looking for her normal, heavily spicy scenes, you will not find them in this book. I was a little conflicted about my rating of this story because I just wanted more. More of what? I don't know, honestly. I think I am patiently waiting for Zeus and Hera's story.
Thank you, Netgellay, and Sourcebook for the Ebook in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca, Katee Robert for the ARC–my opinions are my own.
This book felt very different in comparison to the most recent books in the Dark Olympus series–but in a good way. In the acknowledgements, Katee mentioned that this was their first M/M story and they took a lot of care in writing it. I definitely could feel their intention and care they put into Poseidon and Icarus’ story. This is also the first M/M book I have read.
I felt like this book was more plot heavy & action-packed than spice (which was fine with me), but it was exciting. I felt like this was the first decent read in this series (for me) since Radiant Sin. I enjoyed the epilogue and that Poseidon and Icarus were able to be together and live in peace (~hopefully lol).
I can’t wait for Zeus and Hera’s story next!

Katee’s books will always have a sweet spot in my heart. This one was no exception.
This story was wonderful. I loved the two main characters within and how this series of books ties in to the others. I enjoyed the insta-list and while it definitely gave off captor/captured vibes Icarus sure as heck did not fight nearly as much as I would have figured.
I really loved Icarus for his cunning behavior and manners, along with Poseidon’s desire to fight their connection vehemently. I also LOVED that he was on the spectrum and I really appreciated the rep there.
Overall the romance, the plot, the entire book series has been solid so far and this was no exception. 10/10!

Thank you to the publisher/ netgalley for the ARC!! <3
Waiiiiiiit this one kind of ate!!!!!!!!
Dark Restraint wasn't one of my favourites of the series, but Poseidon and Icarus??? Omg my babies I want them to be happy together forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved Poseidon's character in this book, and I loved their dynamic and how it shifted in and out of the bedroom, but created such a safe and gentle and loving relationship for them both all-round. I just want to swaddle them both up in some warm blankets with a lil hot chocolate and a cheese board and pop on a comfort movie and give them both head scratches, what precious little beans. They deserve the world!!!!!

Review contains spoilers!!!!!!!
3.5 stars rounded up to 4. I'm very conflicted with this one. The almost insta-lust wasn't my favorite. I didn't really get captor/captive vibes. They were almost instantly lovers, even when Icarus kept claiming it was for blackmail it didn't feel that way.
The plot around the fate of Olympus was great. Well paced, a little predictable, but also had a couple surprises! I loved getting a little more background on a couple of the Thirteen.
The last 40% of this book was excellent! That is what bumped this up to a 3.5 for me! I am so incredibly excited to read Zeus and Hera!
I read an ARC of this book and am leaving an honest review.

Ok, I see where the plot is taking us and I would say just like with Dark Restraint, Sweet Obsession is plot heavy. We see the aftermath of Circe’s invasion and kind of get the see the 13 fall apart even more so than they have before. There’s not quite as much plotting and scheming as some of the previous books but that’s ok. I liked Icarus and Poseidon together, but surprisingly I thought there weren’t many sec scenes? I’m not going to lie that’s what I read these books for so I was a little disappointed when the romance and spice seemed slightly lackluster. I have no problems with the couple, I just wish we got more from their romance.

Another solid book in the series. She's definitely setting up for a spectacular end to this plot. The plot felt like slightly more of a focus than the relationship but I still really enjoyed it.

Thank you to SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca and NetGalley for providing an ARC for review.
I enjoyed this! The romance between the main characters is surprisingly very sweet. I could totally see how this is accidentally a Baldur’s Gate 3 fan-fiction, and genuinely really enjoyed the parallels between Icarus and Astarion.
Unsurprisingly for me, I enjoyed the politics the least. I find that the plot in this regard has become convoluted since the cast, by the nature of the series, has become huge. I did appreciate how much the political plot moves in this book, though. I’m interested to get more information on Circe’s motivations.

Another fabulous installment of this series. In book 8, Sweet Obsession takes us back into the treacherous, seductive world of Dark Olympus, where political intrigue, power struggles, and ridiculously hot romance collide. And when I say hot, I mean all the chilli peppers. This book is basically a five-alarm fire.
Somehow, despite the sheer number of MM relationships I’ve read about, this was my first actual MM romance book. And wow, what an introduction! Poseidon and Icarus are everything: powerful yet vulnerable, flawed yet perfect for each other. Their relationship crackles with intensity, but there’s also a softness to them that made me feel every moment of their journey from lust to love.
Endgame approaches! The Thirteen’s power plays are heading towards a dramatic conclusion, and you know Zeus and Hera are about to bring the drama in the next instalment. Speaking of Hera… yeah, still not my favourite, but I fully expect to change my mind. Or not. Whatever. I’m here for it.
This series continues to deliver on everything I love: masterful world-building, tangled relationships, and enough heat to set the pages on fire. If you’ve been following along, you won’t want to miss this one. And if you haven’t started yet… what are you waiting for?
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC—my opinions, as always, are my own.
