Thank you so much to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for an ARC in exchange for my honest review :)
This is the 8th entry in the Dark Olympus series, and very quickly became one of my favourite Katee Robert books yet. I have been WAITING for this one because I’ve been intrigued by Poseidon since Neon Gods, and I feel like I fell in love with him alongside Icarus throughout this story.
The relationship between Poseidon and Icarus felt so genuine and real, and I really appreciated the pacing of their romance. I’ve had some issues with some of the other couples in this series (I’m looking at you, Ariadne and Minotaur + Helen/Patroclus/Achilles), but there was something that felt so grounded about these two. It felt incredibly human, and the tension between them was GORGEOUS. And as always, Katee delivers with the smut. I blushed my way through a lotttt of this book.
I genuinely enjoy the world building of Dark Olympus and find it much stronger than the Wicked Villains series, but I’m really finding the Circe storyline to be a bit tired. She’s a fantastic “antagonist” - and as all of Katee Robert’s characters do, she gets provided with really interesting motivation - but I’m just sort of ready for the conclusion we’re approaching.
All of this to say, I very much enjoyed this one, and it’s reinvigorated my excitement to see how the series is going to play out! (Also I am gnawing at the bars of my enclosure for Zeus and Hera’s story. Give it to me nowwwwwwwwwwwww)

The book felt very drawn out. I feel like over the last three books there has been very little action and the story line is being drawn out to the point where the books are getting boring. I’m only reading them still to get to Zeus and Hera honestly. We’ve had the same overarching storyline for all 8 books now and it’s still barely progressed.

2.5/5 Stars | They had me in the first half...
What I liked: I really and truly thought for the first 75% of this book that this was plot-forward and actually going to make some progress on the overarching plot for the series as a whole. I think that the relationship aspect of this book could have worked incredibly well if the entire book had been set over more than just three days--they were well matched and I see where Katee Robert was going with them together.
What I didn't like: Insta-love gives me the ick every time. You cannot convince me in any world and under any circumstances that after 3 days and barely any conversations that they're saying "I love you"s and making life-altering plans. I was also incredibly disappointed in the letdown of the overall conflict. We spent an entire book setting something up just for it to be kind of resolved, but not really and no additional progress to the overall plot.
I really, really want to finish this series, and I plan on it, but the last 3-4 books have all been 2 stars for me. It may not be for me and that is sad, but we shall see!
Thanks to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for this e-ARC!

Sweet Obsession by Katee Robert describes Icarus’ captivity with Poseidon. Poseidon is a gentle and caring captor who realizes Icarus isn’t the enemy and vows to take care of Icarus while Circe is ready to set fire to Olympus.
I enjoyed the story telling and relationship development between Icarus and Poseidon. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

this is the eighth installment in the Dark Olympus series and honestly at this point in the series I don't really care about the Circe plot/wall coming down, its been mentioned in basically every book and while that plot finally progressed in this book I just cant bring myself to really care about it, I did really love the relationship between Poseidon and Icarus though and the development we saw with Icarus.

✨Book Review✨
Sweet Obsession - Katee Robert
📖 This is book 8 in the Dark Olympus Series - so if you haven’t read those yet… circle back to Neon Gods to get yourself started!
If you, like me, have been waiting for this book since you finished Dark Restraint then you should know Sweet Obsession picks up moments after that ending. This book spans only a few days in Olympus as we follow Icarus, who’s being held captive by Poseidon. Olympus is on the eve of destruction, with Circe at their oceanfront gates waiting to make her move, Icarus and Poseidon both have difficult decisions to make.
📚 The plot here just keeps plotting. I cannot express how much I love the intricate web of the city and characters that Katee has created here. Every single character has been built up in a way that makes them credible and understandable. The drama, the spice, the politics…this series is a smash. Icarus and Poseidon both get explored and developed in a way that moves the plot right along. Also huge props to Katee for creating Poseidon as a mid forties man who’s got a belly and is a gentle giant. I am here for that type of inclusion. I could not put this book down. I am already looking forward to the next installment in this series.
Shoutout to @NetGalley @sourcebooks and @katee_robert for the advanced copy of this book! It is set to publish April 1, 2025!
🌟 This book has explicit sexual content and features a MM relationship. If you’ve already loved Dark Olympus so far then you must request this from your library immediately!

This series still has me so invested! The interconnected plot throughout the books is done so well. Poseidon and Icarus were a nice couple for this story and fit well with the plot. This series is nearing the end and I’m not ready.

Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for the ARC. Unfortunately, I felt like this book was doing too much too quickly. The overarching story of war is good but confusing by this point in the series. I liked these two characters more than the other recent books in the series but overall still find them lacking in comparison to the first few books. I also am just not a fan of instant love. Unfortunately, this one was really not for me!

Ohh I love this!
I’ll admit the last 2 books in the series weren’t my favorites, but this one is so great. It has it all: the amazing subplot, the romance between charismatic characters, and even a little plot twist.
Definitely one of the favorites in the series in my opinion.

Katee Roberts really can do no wrong when it comes to the dark Olympus series. Between having characters that feel like real life people, faults and all) to seeing romantic queer relationships play out into a happily ever after, this series has it all. I really enjoy a good enemies to lovers and starting right off with the death of Icarus’ father at his own hands is WILD. I also really enjoyed seeing more of the legacy roles in dark Olympus because up to this point we really only saw Hades and Persephone in depth. I’m not gonna lie I tried to stretch this book out as long as I could because I didn’t want it to end and waiting for the next installment is TORTURE (and not the fun kind)
Can’t wait for the next installment, so grateful for this ARC copy, and Katee will always get 5✨ Stars from me!

Well, there is really no big surprise that I loved this one. I adore the whole series and all the other books I've read by the author.
And I have to say this one would probably rank with my favourites in this series.
What I enjoyed most is the diversity, the MM relationship between two bi/pan sexual people, surrounded by side characters of all shapes, colours, and genders and with one of our main characters autistic coded although not confirmed. I was recently diagnosed on the spectrum, and it means a lot to me and others like me, to see representation.
The development of the relationship between our main characters happens quickly but organically, the spicy scenes are delightful, detailed, and original.
The plot doesn't move a lot in this one, but it sets the tone for the next one, where likely a lot of things will happen. We met Circe and learned a bit more about the new Zeus and Hera. Also, the name of the ship might give us some points about where to look, and if you know a little about Greek mythology, it can give you some interesting things to think about. I know I will be thinking about this until the next book.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for allowing me to read an ARC of this book.
I am a huge Katee Robert fan, and will read probably everything she writes! Sweet Obsession is book 8 of the Dark Olympus series. Note, I did not know when I picked up Neon Gods that I would be signing myself up for reading a 10-book series, but here I am, committed and hard-core invested. The series as a whole is amazing, and this book does a great job continuing the over-arching series plot while introducing another loveable couple and making their story shine through. While I suppose it could be read as a standalone, I highly, HIGHLY recommend reading the rest of the series first.
Sweet Obsession focuses on Poseidon and Icarus. It is a Dom/Sub captor/captive relationship that progressed very quickly. Poseidon is one of the 3 Legacy titles of the Thirteen (the ruling body of Olympus). Unlike the rest of them, he doesn't like power or rule over his people using manipulation or fear. He seems genuinely sweet despite his giant size. Icarus is the 'disappointment' son of King Minos who uses his looks and sexual charm to get what he wants. It's definitely a unique enemies-to-lovers opposites-attract romance in the midst of an impending war.
I enjoyed the romance between Poseidon & Icarus very much, even if the pacing felt a little too rushed. I also liked the snippets of Zeus & Hera's ongoing battle, as they are the pair to be featured in the next book.
Sweet Obsession is also the first book that I've ever read that utilized neopronouns (ze/zir/xe/xyr). While I have known they existed and have heard them used in conversation (however infrequently) I have never seen them in print, particularly in a novel. It caught me off-guard at first, but I found it very inclusive. I know she has previously had non-binary characters, but I don't recall having seen her use neopronouns before.
I would definitely recommend this book (and series) to anyone who likes dark, spicy romances, contemporary romances, and/or Greek retellings. Katee Robert always dishes out the perfect amount of romance and spice, and leaves you wanting more. But be prepared to commit to the full series! There's still 2 more books in store, and I am looking forward to it. I highly recommend adding this one to your TBR!

Convincing you to read a 10 book series; installment 8: 🪽Sweet Obsession follows Icarus & Poseidon 🐚
If it wasn’t clear by me reading book 8/10, the Dark Olympus series is fantastic. Each book follows a different love story, in a continuation of a bigger/ overarching plot. In this book, political machinations have come to a climax and power players have to make their moves. The mysterious “big bad” is revealed, and their actions begin to directly impact the Thirteen (the ruling body of Olympus).
Poseidon is a kind, fair leader. His people genuinely like him, and he doesn’t choose to rule by fear. This is different from previous books, in that he isn’t scheming for power or position. It’s a glimpse at what “could be”, if the Thirteen ever chose to rule differently.
Icarus’ story reminded me a lot of Finnick (The Hunger Games), and I loved the gradual impact that a person like Poseidon could have on someone so guarded. The growth, open communication, and notion of feeling seen made my heart so happy. And the ending was perfection!
Read if you like:
•Greek Mythology portrayed in a modern day world
•Powerful positions reimagined as gods/ goddesses that are either inherited or elected
•Unlikely romances
•Constant power plays, politics, manipulation, and even unaliving for the sake of power
•Mental health, diversity, and disability representation
•Humor hidden within drama
Thank you Netgalley and Sourcebooks for gifting me with an eARC, all thoughts expressed are my own.

Good god this might be my favorite book of the series so far! The way the chemistry between these two started immediately had me in a chokehold but then when the emotions came into it, I was a goner. How they fit each other perfectly and filled the missing parts of each other. I seriously love Icarus and Poseidon so so much. Their love was so sweet and pure and I loved the ongoing story in the background too. All the back stabbing and politics is so interesting and I’m so interested to find out what the hell is going on with the thirteen! But these two seriously captured my heart from the very beginning. The tension and spice were top tier as usual, but there’s something about a sexy man bringing another sexy man to his knees that does something to me. Such an easy 5 stars. I never want to leave this world.

the book went quickly from “direct enemies of Olympus” to “lovers”. A bit too quickly for my taste, but the writing was good!
I did NOT expect Poseidon to be a sub and Icarus a dom, but a pleasant surprise!
It was so good to see Icarus develop into a self assured self loving man, no longer under the pressure and confinement of his dad!

This may be my new favorite book in the Dark Olympus series! I love the character of Poseidon, and how Katee has written him. He’s a creature of habit that doesn’t always understand social cues, and written in such a way that makes me (as someone similar) feel seen and recognized. Icarus is a complex character. Now that he’s away from his father, he has a real growing journey into finding who he really is as a person. Their relationship is loving, two flawed souls that found each other. I can’t wait for the next book to learn the fate of Olympus!

This story takes us on the compelling love story of posideon and icareus. Loved everything about this book and this series!

So grateful to have received an ARC of this book, even if it wasn’t my favorite in the series!
I enjoyed both of these characters but felt like their relationship was rushed in the context of the larger plot unfolding in Olympus (which really has felt like it’s gone on for a long time at this point!) Poseidon was truly precious but it was too insta-love for me.
I also felt like the overall conflict was pretty stagnant in this one. Felt like a bridge book for sure!
Definitely still looking forward to some of the promised future installments of this series though!

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with the e-arc. I was ecstatic to see I got approved but alas like with many other arcs I got approved for recently 😔
I dare say her writing is much better than Iron flame despite the books being of completely different genres. I loooved the premise but perhaps because I haven’t read the other books in the series I couldn’t get into the modern Olympians kinda mafia retelling 🥲

I can't believe the Dark Olympus series is in the home stretch!
Sweet Obsession was as intriguing and steamy as the rest of the books in the series, but I can't help but wish it was a little longer! Poseidon and Icarus are characters that have been lingering in the background for so long, I'd have liked to spend more time with them as a couple, to see their relationship develop, especially since the book was otherwise (rightly) very focused on the overarching plot
