I love when a good plot is combined with a wonderful love story. Poseidon and Icarus' love story is one of the best Katee Robert has written. It is nor necessarily an enemies to lovers trope but it does start with an imbalance of power and the two most unlikely people to fall for each other discover true love.

2.5 stars. It makes me sad to give this rating because I love this series, but this was the first one that let me down!
Poseidon has always been a background character and I really hoped his story would shed more light on his past and why he is the way he is. We got a little, but it didn’t feel thorough enough. Icarus also felt underdeveloped, I want to know more about Aeae and his family! I did love their relationship and the care they showed each other, the sweet interactions between two rough characters were the bright spots in this book.
The series plot line didn’t develop enough either. This one felt a little like a filler just to check one of the 13 off without much effort into giving us back story, even the spice was a little dull compared to the others. I hope the rest of the series brings the excitement I loved so much in all the other books!

Roberts has written yet another amazing Dark Olympus novel!
As a romance, I really enjoyed how the relationship developed between Icarus and Poseidon. I love how Roberts writes non-stereotypical relationships that also deal with the depth of character and emotion. I feel all the feels with every book they write.
What drew my attention the most in this book was the plot. I have kept up with the books the Dark Olympus ever since Neon Gods had me in a chokehold with Persephone and Hades. This book continues that over-arching plot, which is great but because of it I would say that you can't quite enjoy it as much without having read some of the prior novels. At the very least Dark Restraint (Book #7). As a fan of Mythology this series has been one of my favorites in how it uses mythology for it's foundation but Roberts creates unique works every time so I can't wait to read more.

A steamy MM addition to the Dark Olympus series!
Olympus is at war and Poseidon has many plans that need his attention, but Icarus' presence makes it difficult to stay focused. Icarus is a natural flirt and Poseidon is quickly intrigued by his charm. As the two navigate their new relationship, more questions arise of what the future may hold for Olympus and for their new romantic entanglement.
I really enjoyed the forced proximity start of this novel and how it progressed to so much more. One of my favorite things about the Dark Olympus series is that the main focus is set on the MCs but there's also consistent themes throughout the series of power dynamics in Olympus. As we get closer to the end of the saga, I have been even more eager and excited to read about the Olympians!
I definitely recommend this novel and series to readers who enjoy steamy fantasy with queer characters who love hard.

As a long time Katee Robert fan, I was determined to read this slowly. I wanted to savor it because I knew Katee was taking their time writing this series so burnout didn't happen again. But then they kissed. And I devoured the rest of the book within 3 hours. And cried. I didn't think her MM romance was going to take the top spot as a favorite, but by golly did it. I cannot wait for the next one.
I wish I could better describe the relationship between Icarus and Poseidon, but i feel like if Owen Hunt from Grey's and Andrew Scott's Moriarty had a relationship this would be as close as it could possibly describe. The side stories with Hera/Zeus and Hermes were also just tasty enough that I cannot wait to see them play out.
Truthfully, I hope when Katee writes the final book, that these boys come back in, along with all of the other couples from the other books.

I was lucky enough to get an arc for this book, and as always, with this series I ate it up. Absolutely love this series.
The plot was so good! The way everything is coming together in the final few books is just so entertaining to read. Obsessed with Poseidon! And Icurus was such an interesting character. Can't wait for the next one.
'For him, I'll wait forever.'

I was so excited when Katee announced this was available as a READ NOW and I want to thank Katee, the publisher, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this advanced copy and provide honest feedback.
Rating: 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
Sweet Obsession picks up where Dark Restraint left off with Poseidon taking Icarus captor after Ariadne and the Minotaur escape Olympus following the death of Minos. This book is definitely more politics/strategy centered than some of the others and that can make it seem a little slow in places. The whole thing takes place over less than 4 days (I think that's the right timeline) and a lot of little things happen but it isn't necessarily super exciting the whole time. However, I still really enjoyed it and I think Sweet Obsession is an important novel to bridge the events from Dark Restraint (and prior) to whatever things we are going to see in Tender Cruelty and Shattered Gods. You get to see a lot of behind the scenes workings of the Thirteen and it was pretty interesting to see the dynamics at play.
I think something that kept me from rating it higher is I never particularly cared for Icarus. I didn't dislike him, but I didn't like him either. He was just kind of around on the edges of events in the past couple of books and I didn't really care to know more. Poseidon however, was everything I wanted. He's just a giant fluffy cinnamon roll carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders and he deserves all the good things. I did REALLY enjoy the epilogue and it redeemed some of the parts that I didn't love as much.

Hello???? Katee Robert NEVER MISSES, I swear!
Poseidon and Icarus are so perfectly matched for each other — a too-good-for-this-world pure-hearted "big guy" and the traumatized Icarus, who literally couldn't work with anyone less pure than Poseidon. I love the escalation and continuation of the broader Olympus story, and I genuinely think katee does a perfect job balancing the romance, the spice, and the overarching plot.
Just color me obsessed.

I have read several of the books in this series and I have enjoyed every single one. I like the modern take on the Gods from Greek Mytholody, and the spice is a bonus!

What can I say, this book is awesome!! I love this series and recommend it to all my friends. This one does not disappoint! The plot and main characters are great!
Thank you so much Katee Robert, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and netgalley for the arc! What a great way to start the year.

SWEET OBSESSION was another fun and quick read in Katee Robert’s Dark Olympus series, which continues with the same creativity, flair, and spice present in all her novels. Really enjoyed the Icarus and Poseidon match and how that story wove into the greater forces at play, and the progression of that narrative.
Thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read and review SWEET OBSESSION.

Holy guacamole! For being the first gay romance novel that they have written, Katte Robert knocked this all the way out of the park and a couple blocks down the street!
The story was both rough and tender, sharp and gentle, bitter an yet achingly sweet!
Katee weaves an unforgettable love story into an action packed 8th instalment of the Dark Olympus series!
I could read their writing all day every day and never get enough!
And don't even get me started on the kink! Well written with clear consent, clear negotiation before scenes, the acknowledgement of how important after care and preparation are and just all around SCORCHINGLY HOT SPICE!
I swooned both from the gentleness the main characters had for each other and the rough tenderness with which they fucked!
Also, shout out to the mental health rep!
BRAVO, KATEE! YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN!!!

First, I can't believe I had the opportunity to read this book before its release. The entire Dark Olympus series has been unbelievable and Sweet Obsession is no different.
I love the way Katee incorporates so many different kinds of people. It is very clear that Poseidon is neurodivergent and she created Icarus to be the perfect counterpart for him.
I can't wait to read about the progression of Olympus and possibly Aeaea in the next book. The dynamics will definitely be changed after this book!

The Dark Olympus series is a steamy re-telling of your favorite stories from Greek mythology. Katee Robert manages to make each and every story modern, HOT and often queer. Sweet Obsession is the story of Poseidon and Icarus and continues to build on the danger heading towards Olympus that we've all seen coming in previous books. I definitely recommend reading the other books first if you haven't!
Thank you to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is the best book in the series so far, perfectly hitting the balance between world-building and romance that have come to define this series. Unlike a few of the prior books, however, I wasn't rolling my eyes at the romance and ultimately just reading to get updates on the political turmoil. I felt fully invested in Icarus and Poseidon's love story, and really loved the dynamic between them. For me, it didn't feel as instalovey as some of the other books in the series, even though the timespan is still relatively short. I totally bought into their relationship, and my only complaint was that the book wasn't longer! Definitely one I'll want to buy and reread.
I'm excited for Tender Cruelty, as I've loved Callisto (Hera) since the very beginning. However, I really hate Zeus still, and find his cold Alpha male persona very dull and unappealing, especially for such an independent and strongwilled character like Hera. I'm very worried her spark is going to be crushed by his domineering nature, and am hoping that Robert will subvert expectations there by not having her be, in my opinion, unrealistically forced into submission.

As always, Katee Robert can do no wrong. Their books never fail to give me exactly what I want especially the Dark Olympus series. Another book I can’t wait to have in store.

3.75/5
I am SO happy I got my hands on this book! The dynamic between our MC’s caught me off guard in the best way. I adored the chemistry between them and the whole story in general. However, I did want a bit more time for both the relationship and the overarching plot to develop- it felt a bit rushed. That aside, I still did love it and I was so happy to be back in Olympus with our characters and I’m glad to have had the chance to get to know this cute couple ! I hope we get more of them in upcoming books.

I enjoyed this story much. The individual growth that both Poseidon and Icarus go through, as well as their growth together feels more natural than some previous couples/throuples in the series. Icarus becoming a reluctant hero, and Poseidon finally being able to live the life he wants was so heartwarming.I really enjoyed the anxiety and autism rep as well. I was so worried we were going to be left hanging on their potential HEA until after the last book, but was so happy that we didn't. Having them spend some time apart and then reunite was everything! It gave their relationship more depth. I actually think these two are one of my favorite relationships in the series.
I can't wait to find out what else is going happen with Circe, and how Hera and Zeus will redeem themselves. Their book is going to be messy based on the outcome of this one.
Another fun little rollercoaster of emotion, angst, list, longing and spice.

Katee Roberts has once again wirtten the perfect combination of queer rep, life commentary, a romance that shouldn’t work but somehow does, all seasoned with the perfect amount of spice!
As someone who typically has a hard time getting into a mm romance I was pleased surprised with how much enjoyed Icarus’s and Poseidon’s story!
I need to know what’s going with Hera and Zeus though, like asap.

Thank you for the publisher for the ARC! I truly enjoyed the 8th installment in the Dark Olympus series. The relationship and attraction between Poseidon and Icarus was very sweet. However, compared to the last couple of books, this has been the most overall plot-driven in the series thus far. Since there are so many books to this series now, I would not recommend reading this one without the previous books in the series. As a reader, we are still trying to understand the world-building will Dark Olympus and I feel like it is finally coming together now. This book itself truly continues the overarching plot in the series but it definitely does not hinder on the relationship. The scenes are deliciously spicy and I loved every minute of it.
I am looking forward to more of the politics and war in the next book!
