(I did receive an ARC to review)
Let me start by saying that I have NOT read the previous books in this series. I tend to mood read, and they are on my TBR. That being said, I did not feel that it was totally necessary to read the others first. Enough information about past events or recurring characters was provided to where I wasn't lost, but it wasn't so much that it seemed as though events were being replayed. That seems to be a fine line for some authors, but Robert handled that very well!
I love mythology, and I really did like the way Robert rewove what we have been taught with a new vision. The politics of the story are intricate, and I felt that they were very in line with traditional myths.
Icarus and Poseidon clearly are on opposing sides, and yet they are drawn to each other. This is not an instalove story, which just made it so much better. I could almost feel what each was thinking -- the wording and depth of feeling is just phenomenal. The relationship that develops between these two men just felt so real-- the insecurities, the second guessing, the recognition.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to going back and binging this series from the beginning!

i think this might be my favorite installment in the dark olympus series thus far!! i loved getting to explore icarus who had been a side character for the past few books and clearly treated awful by his father. in this book, we see him begin to cope with grief while still amidst the chaotic plot running throughout the series. also poseidon is another one of my favs in this series now that we’ve seen his perspective better. and even though there’s still much to unravel with the main through line, we got to see them and their happy ending. gave me warm fuzzies despite all the dark romance elements lol.

In true Katee Robert fashion, Sweet Obsession is a spicy retelling of Poesidon and Icarus. Steamy and dark, this captor/captive romance will leave you hot and bothered!

Olympus is at war and Icarus has fallen captive in the hands of Poseidon. The more time they spend together the more they crave each other and with the war looming over Olympus this could destroy them both along with everyone else.
This was a great addition to the dark Olympia world that Katee Robert has created. The book started of great and exciting with impeccable character development with Icarus being strong young man however completely traumatised by his father’s actions and lack of love towards him. Icarus puts on a mask to hide his fragile heart. Poseidon albeit his strong, harsh and large appearance has a sensitive soul and caring nature which I didn’t expect.
The plot of this instalment was amazing due to the impending war between Circe and the Thirteen. You get to see the cracks within the foundations of the Thirteen due to the secrecy and scheming which happens inside the leaders. The pacing of the book was perfect as it didn’t feel like too much was happening at once (such as too much information thrown at the reader in one go!) It was great to see the tension build up between Icarus and Poseidon and the direr need to stop the war from commencing.
I loved the power dynamics between Icarus and Poseidon such as Icarus being the dominate figure in the relationship compared to Poseidon. It was great to see the dynamics shaken up and roles reversed which I thought brought the book to a whole new level in terms of stereotypical expectations.
“ it won’t be enough until I possess him fully.”
Overall, I thought this new instalment was brilliant and a great stepping stone to the next book. I believe this is aimed at the correct style of reader such as dark romance fanatics. I can’t wait to read the next book and cant wait to recommend to my audience.
“We’re racing the sun - we might have all night, but sunrise will come too soon.”

SWEET OBSESSION is the eighth instalment in Katee Robert’s contemporary, adult DARK OLYMPUS erotic, urban fantasy series, a modern retelling of the gods and goddesses of Olympus. This is Poseidon, and Icarus Vitalis’ story line. SWEET OBSESSION can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as there is an ongoing premise throughout.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise including same $ex scenarios and BDSM situation, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
SOME BACKGROUND: Not all is well in Olympus. The barrier between Olympus and the rest of the world is collapsing, and the attacks in the upper city have become dangerous and deadly. The fight for power and control within the ruling circle of Thirteen has resulted in a number of deaths-someone is determined to destroy that which is no longer theirs to control.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Poseidon and Icarus) SWEET OBSESSION follows the building romance and relationship between Icarus and Poseidon as the gods and goddesses of Olympus prepare for war. Icarus is Poseidon’s prisoner, a prisoner who is determined to ease the darkness that is choking the man with whom Icarus will fall in love but war has come to Olympus, and Icarus may have the ammunition to keep the enemy at bay.
The world building follows preparations for war as the gods and goddesses take sides in a fight for power. Family will target family, friends must take control before everything and everyone is sacrificed.
The relationship between begins when Icarus becomes Poseidon’s prisoner but Icarus suspects Poseidon is struggling with his place in Olympus, and his need to give up control to someone else. As Icarus begins a slow seduction of Poseidon, others see a potential for betrayal by someone who has already been judged. The $ex scenes are provocative and intense including same $ex scenarios and BDSM situations.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and powerful secondary and supporting characters including the return of Hera, Zeus, Hermes, Hades and Circe.
SWEET OBSESSION is a story of power and control, obsession and acceptance, forgiveness and love. The premise is dramatic , intriguing and entertaining; the romance is passionate; the characters are captivating and desperate.

Sweet Obsession is a steamy, emotionally charged romance that delivers exactly what fans of Katee Robert have come to expect—intense chemistry, complex characters, and a touch of delicious drama. The story follows the sizzling dynamic between a guarded heroine and a charming, persistent hero, as they navigate past wounds and undeniable attraction. Robert masterfully blends heartfelt moments with plenty of heat, making this a satisfying read for anyone craving a modern romance with depth and spice. Quick, addictive, and full of heart—Sweet Obsession hits the mark.

Unfortunately, neither the romance nor the Olympus politics plot captured my attention nor did either carry the book. I think if Icarus and Poseidon's dynamics played out over more elapsed time it might have worked for me, but instead it felt like insta-love without us having enough time to develop Poseidon's character. I'll still finish out the series since I've come this far, but the overarching plot is already feeling overly drawn out.
Thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for the ARC for my review.

This is not my typical read but it was enjoyable. I did enjoy the romance but I probably won't read any more of this series. It is extremely heavy in spice and there wasn't really balance so I was taken out a few times. However, if you love that and a greek retelling then this is the book for you! Thank you net gallery of approving the arc!

I can’t believe we’re so far into this series with only 2 books left until completion. Sweet Obsession brings us Poseidon and Icarus’s story, picking up where Dark Restraint ends. It’s a bit hard to write a substantial review without spoiling anything with how in depth we are in this series! Poseidon finds himself in a hard place sheltering his captive, Icarus, and accidentally falling in love with him in the meantime. Icarus intends to use Poseidon as a means to an end, but finds himself wanting to save the big, tender man he gets to know better. Their relationship was so out of left field but no less beautiful.
The political plot furthers much more in this installment, with some unexpected twists, and I’m so ready for Zeus and Hera’s book. I support women’s wrongs, but I’m also toxic and I can’t kick the thing I have for Zeus. Tender Cruelty is going to be a doozy!
Thank you so much to Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing me with an eARC via NetGalley.

As the first MM Katee Robert book, I had high hopes and they were all blown out of the water. I was also desperately waiting for this book after the ending of the last one and both Icarus and Poseidon were perfection to read. Not in any way the typical, but they worked together and slotted into the Dark Olympus world perfectly. While the back plot is moving along, I was hoping that there would be more (but there are still two books left and I am expecting a lot from Hera and Zeus). Reading and seeing queer and other non-normative stories is it's own type of healing right now, and when ones are this beautifully written the only thing I want is more.

After the last book in this series, I wasn't sure how much I wanted to continue reading along with the folks in Olympus. While the first three books remain my favorites, I quite enjoyed this. Watching character growth for Icarus was satisfying, and seeing how the dynamic between him an Poseidon played out was both enjoyable and a twist on what I was expecting going into the ARC. I'm eager to get a bit more of the background in the next book for what's going on with Zeus and Hera given what we've seen from them so far.

I didn’t expect to like Icarus after book 7 but he surprised me in this. . . He had some redeeming qualities & used his previous sly self to his advantage.
Poseidon, however. That man 🥵 his knees buckling 🫠
In true Katee style to spice was scorching, the tension was rife but the political suspense! I am fuming I have to wait til December for answers!

It is no secret that I am a huge fan of Katee Robert, so the moment I saw Sweet Obsession was available I simply HAD to read it!.
The latest addition to the fabulous Dark Olympus series certainly did not disappoint! following the story story of Poseidon and Icarus, we got a real in-depth look into these characters as individuals... and this story had one of my absolute favourite tropes... the enemies-to-lovers, and it was portrayed perfectly.
The entire story had me well and truly hooked to the very last page, and this is without a doubt one of the books I will be highly recommending to everyone!
*Thank you to NetGalley and the Publishers for providing me with an ARC of this book in return for my honest review.

an addictive, steamy romance that will keep you hooked from start to finish. The chemistry between the leads is off-the-charts, and their emotional connection adds depth to their sizzling attraction. It's the perfect mix of heat, heart, and drama, and I can't wait for more from this series. Highly recommend for those looking for a fun, fiery read!

Book 8 of the Dark Olympus Series

Thank you, Katee, for letting me read this ahead of the release date.
The story picks up where Book 7, Dark Restraint, ended. You technically do and don’t need to read from the other books prior. Let me explain - plot and Olympus world-wise, yes because the change in power amongst the Thirteen and with the barrier no longer protecting Olympus, Circe coming in to attack and take the city down. No, because Icarus and Poseidon’s love story is a standalone.
Icarus finds himself Poseidon’s prisoner but both are unwilling and Poseidon is keeping him captive out of necessity. Poseidon has been described as a no nonsense kind of guy and Icarus sleeps around for secrets. There’s an instant attraction and comfort that they’re forced to acknowledge. At first, for Icarus, it was for his safety, but then they both end up finding what they’ve truly needed in each other.
While I thought the comfort and love Icarus and Poseidon found in each other was touching and sweet - I really wanted to love the book - but I found that it was a little flat. Understandably, war is upon the Thirteen, but from when the barrier failed in Dark Restraint, and finishing Sweet Obsession, we still don’t know what Circe wants. Hermes makes a brief appearance and it definitely sets the reader’s attention to Hera and Zeus since it’s their book next.
Overall, I’d recommend this book if you like to read a dark Greek mythology retelling between a captive and captor romance.

Poseidon and Icarus...
I enjoyed this latest edition to Katee Robert's Olympus series. Fast paced, smart, steamy and political. This book is packed with all the political machinations of Olympus, all the gossip and the soap opera hooking up. In a word? It is satisfying. Icarus is under Poseidon's watch. Poseidon was a surprise. He's a big gruff bear. Icarus is more of the wily, fast talker, quick thinker. Of course these two are going to get it on.
Recommend.

oh my goshhh. i could NOT put this book down. it's such a beautiful story and i loved it so much. it definitely had me kicking my feet and giggling as well as holding my breath during the times of stress. although i have yet to read the other books in this series, there is a nice lil recap in the beginning of the book to get you up to speed! but i definitely plan on going back and reading them when i have time. i absolutely LOVED Poseidon, such a teddy bear!!! also!!!! i really loved the use of neo-pronouns in this!!! i don't think i have ever read a book with an author using them and it's so amazing to see so much representation in books!

Katee Robert delivers another steamy and emotional addition to the *Dark Olympus* series with *Sweet Obsession*. The story follows Icarus, now at the mercy of the Thirteen, and Poseidon, his enigmatic captor who proves to be more kind-hearted than expected. Their dynamic is sizzling, evolving from a captor/captive tension into something deeper as trust builds between them. While the romance starts off feeling surface-level, the growing emotional connection makes it satisfying by the end.
Beyond the romance, the political intrigue in Olympus is reaching a boiling point, keeping the stakes high. Poseidon shines as a quiet yet powerful figure, while Icarus’s wit and resilience make him a compelling counterpart. And with Zeus and Hera’s story on the horizon, the excitement for what’s next is undeniable. A spicy, emotional, and thrilling read—definitely a solid four stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The book follows the characters Poseidon and Icarus, who struggle with their positions in life, as neither of them chose them, but rather inherited them due to family bloodline. The constant pressures push both of them to take a hard look at what they are doing, what they want for their lives, and most importantly, where their loyalty lies.
In terms of plot and story, not much happened. The book was focused more on the emotional bond between Poseidon and Icarus, built on vulnerability and trust. Second to that, it was mostly about their sexual tension and encounters.
I'm glad they get a good storyline for their relationship, but the rest of the story lacked depth. It felt like the conflict got stuck in the exposition stages and never developed as it could've.

Sweet Obsession is about Poseidon and Icarus and the relationship that forms between the two while Icarus is being held captive(ish) as war looms between the other gods and goddesses
I have not read the series in order, and while it did lead to a little confusion about the larger world and its players (there is zero recap), most of the interactions between the main characters feels sort of separate. That said, the physical relationship between Poseidon and Icarus seems to develop really quickly. I would have liked to see a little more romantic development outside of the physical. Despite not reading in order, this book did make me curious about the other 7 books and what has been going on for other characters listed. The idea that the gods play a certain role (ex. this is A Poseidon, not the ONLY Poseidon) and that it seems to be a contemporary setting are interesting takes on a mythological retelling.
Thanks to Sourcebooks Cassablanca and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
