Chilling, Addictive, and Impossible to Put Down

Don’t Let Him In is Lisa Jewell at her most haunting and psychologically sharp. From the very first page, there’s an unsettling tension that creeps in and never lets go. Jewell crafts a world that feels both intimately familiar and terrifyingly off-kilter—where danger hides in plain sight and trust is a dangerous gamble.

The characters are richly developed, and their secrets are revealed with the perfect blend of suspense and emotional depth. Jewell masterfully plays with perspective and pacing, keeping the reader guessing: Who is he? What is he hiding? And why does no one seem to see it?

What sets this novel apart is how it weaves domestic drama with psychological dread. It’s not just about fear—it’s about control, vulnerability, and the subtle ways people can manipulate, deceive, and destroy.

If you’re looking for a psychological thriller that will keep you up late turning pages and leave you thinking long after you finish, Don’t Let Him In is a must-read. Lisa Jewell continues to prove why she’s one of the best in the genre.

This book was super creepy and twisted! And yet, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the strength of the characters. Even though some things were easy to see coming, I enjoyed the journey.

Lisa Jewell never disappoints! I read the last half of the book in one sitting, so good!
I did figure out every twist though. But that's primarily because I'm a voracious reader.
This book is perfect for any woman who's been wronged by a man and wants vindication.
Solid 4 star rating from me.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC

Don’t Let Him In
By Lisa Jewell

Three women, a man who seems perfect, and a web of lies! This book is a very slow burn it took me a long time to get into but I did end up enjoying it! I am a big fan of the author, this book is a bit different from the others I have read so keep an open mind!

Thank you to Netgalley and Atria Books for the advance reader copy!

This one was a slow burn for me. I liked the eerie atmosphere and Lisa Jewell’s writing always pulls me in, but I didn’t feel as connected to the characters this time around. Still, there were some solid twists and creepy moments that kept me curious enough to see how it all played out.

Thanks to Atria Books and NetGalley for the ARC!

In pains me to write this as such a Lisa Jewell fan given that she's the one who got me back into reading...

I'm genuinely disappointed to say this, but this book just didn’t work for me. The story was frustrating to get through, and the sheer amount of gaslighting was overwhelming. The plot felt predictable and lacked the tension or intrigue needed to keep me engaged—I considered DNF’ing more than once. Sadly, it just felt tedious and unmemorable. I hate having to give a negative review, but this one simply wasn’t for me.

I've read two of her books before, and they weren't my favorite. The multiple points of view were hard to follow, and I ended up feeling a bit let down by the story. It started off interesting, but it didn't keep my attention. Her writing isn’t for me

This was such a fun psychological thriller. Lisa Jewell always gets me in a great reading mood. While I saw where this was going pretty quickly, I just love a con man story and the settings were so cozy that it was a good offset for the unnerving vibe.

I usually devour Lisa Jewell’s books, but Don’t Let Him In left me with mixed feelings. The setup is compelling, dark, mysterious, and full of her trademark tension, but the pacing felt uneven, especially in the middle. Some characters felt underdeveloped or made questionable choices that pulled me out of the story.

That said, Jewell’s writing is still atmospheric and sharp, and the final chapters did reel me back in with a few well-placed twists. I just wish the momentum and emotional depth matched some of her earlier work. A decent read, but not a standout for me.

A fast, suspenseful read that keeps you hooked. Perfect for fans of psychological thrillers.
Don't Let Him In is a psychological thriller about Phoebe, who lets a man into her life, only to discover he’s not who he seems. The story builds tension as secrets unravel, and trust becomes harder to maintain.

This was just chaos in such a good way! What a ride, mystery and real-life drama integrated into a dramatic family thriller. This is not my favorite by this author, but was still certainly good. Many thanks to Atria Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read.

I DNF at 13%, it did have a nice eerie quality to it but I was waiting for one breadcrum to happen to keep me going and it was just taking too long.

Lisa Jewell’s book “Don’t Let Him In” didn’t quite meet my expectations. I was eagerly anticipating it from NetGalley, but it failed to captivate me. The first half was a struggle to get through, and I had high hopes for the second half. However, I must admit that I didn’t truly enjoy the story until the last 10% was read. The ending was merely satisfactory, leaving me unimpressed.

On the positive side, Jewell’s writing was exceptional. The complexity of the plot, particularly the intricate web of identities, kept me engaged and puzzled. I found myself frequently lost in the narrative and had to reread sections or listen to the audiobook to regain my bearings. In fact, I resorted to borrowing the audiobook from the library and rereading certain chapters multiple times to complete the book.

One aspect that I appreciated was the audiobook narrators. Their voices were incredibly versatile, perfectly capturing the essence of each character. Their performances enhanced the overall reading experience and made the story more enjoyable.

After her husband's tragic death, Nina Swann was not looking for love again when she met his old friend Nick Radcliffe. Suddenly she is swept away by the perfect man but her adult daughter Ash feels like there is something dodgy about Nick. Meanwhile, Martha is a florist whose charming husband Alistair has started disappearing for days. As Martha, Nina, and Ash are set on a collision course, they learn the truth that a perfect man can be a perfect liar in this dark twisted thriller.

I was completely hooked to Lisa Jewell's latest thriller which reminds me of the dark and twisted nature of The Family Upstairs though much slower paced. The constant looming dread as the women continue to fall for this man's charms kept me gripped to the pages wondering when they will figure out his lies. I was also fascinated at the look inside our con man's mind as he justifies his actions to himself. Sadly, the consistent tension petered out at the end instead of building to a big finish but I still think Don't Let Him In is a great summer thriller.

3.5 ⭐ rounded down

I enjoyed this and once I had a moment to sit down and read it, I flew through! However, there were some cons.

Ash Swann's father Paddy recently died, tragically at the hand of a troubled young man at a train station. Her mother, Nina, receives a gift of a lighter owned by her late husband from an old acquaintance named Nick Radcliffe. Nick inserts himself the lives of the Swann family quickly, but his presence leaves Ash doubtful of the relationship he's forming with her widowed mother and skeptical of his motives with their family as a whole.

I was intrigued. I wanted to know what was coming, of course I did! However, the more *thrilling* parts of this novel didn't come until I was over halfway through it. There was a lot of build up and that left me with so many theories (luckily I got to flesh those out with my bookstagram buddy reader, Melissa!! 💛) which was fun, but I was also left wondering like "ok but when is something going to actually happen" for a bit. The end left me really satisfied, though, which was nice!

This was a fine thriller, but I have many others I would recommend before it. Not a complete dud, but not a winner, either.

2.5 stars. I guess this book was fine for what it was. But I hated all the characters and wouldn't really call it a thriller. I felt like I was in Groundhog Day with the way the main character kept switching names and doing the exact same thing to multiple women. The story barely held together, and the ending was wholly unsatisfying.

Don’t Let Him In by Lisa Jewell

A woman finds herself drawn to a charming man who seems too good to be true - and of course, he is. What follows is a slow reveal of just how deep his lies go, and how many people are caught in his web.

This domestic suspense had me hooked. The tension builds as you watch this total con artist manipulate everyone around him - I wanted to scream at the characters to run. I don’t want to spoil anything, but let’s just say: I stayed mad the whole time in the best way.

This one just didn’t hit the mark for me. It’s being marketed as a thriller, but honestly, there’s nothing particularly thrilling or twisty about it. The story follows a con man who manipulates and takes advantage of multiple women, and while the alternating POVs (including a mix of first and third person) added some variety, the plot itself felt extremely repetitive. I kept waiting for a big reveal or shocking moment—but it never came.

There are a lot of characters, and not in a way that felt purposeful. It made the story more confusing than compelling, and I found myself frustrated by the dialogue and pacing. If you’ve ever experienced or read about toxic relationships, this will feel familiar… and not in a good way. I didn’t hate it enough to DNF, but it was definitely a slog at times. If you’re a die-hard Lisa Jewell fan, maybe give it a try—but if you’re looking for a twisty, edge-of-your-seat thriller, this isn’t it.

The only reason I’m not giving it five stars is that the pacing dragged just slightly in the middle, and a few plot points felt a bit convenient. But overall, it’s a chilling, well-crafted read that I’d absolutely recommend to fans of domestic thrillers.
