Tragic and depressing as always. I love LaRocca as I always know I am going to finish his books feeling awful but in the best possible way. I read this whole book over Christmas Eve and I just flat out ignored my family for this book. I can never recommend LaRocca enough and I will be eagerly awaiting the next book.

At Night I Become Loathsome by Eric LaRocca, narrated brilliantly in audiobook form, is a haunting and deeply unsettling experience that will stay with you long after the final words. LaRocca’s chilling prose comes alive through the skillful narration, pulling you into a dark, atmospheric world of psychological horror and introspection. The story, with its layers of disturbing themes and complex characters, is enhanced by the narrator’s perfect pacing and delivery, heightening the tension and unease. With every twist and turn, the audiobook captivates, making it an unforgettable listening experience for fans of horror and suspense. This is a must-listen for anyone who appreciates beautifully crafted, spine-tingling storytelling.

This is my favorite Eric LaRocca so far. I didn't expect with such horror to also end up so heartbroken. This book does contain a lot of themes that many people might want to avoid,, and never lets up with the feeling of doom and darkness. Right when I saw a glimmer of something that might have been light, it was snatched away. Thanks to NetGalley, I got to listen to the audiobook, in exchange for an honest review, and the narrator did an amazing performance, making it feel even darker. This kind of realistic horror stays with me.

This is Eric LaRocca at their finest! This story was dark, twisty, and just the right amount of grotesque. While Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke is still my favorite LaRocca story, this is a very close second, and I feel like it may win over a majority of horror lovers, rather than only those who prefer something more extreme. And, as a specific plus for the audiobook, this narrator was perfect! He portrayed our main character perfectly, capturing both his humanity and his loathsomeness and genuinely making me feel for someone I otherwise would have considered completely unlikeable. No matter how you choose to enjoy this story, you won’t be steered wrong.

This was heartbreaking, grim, and terrifying tale of bizarre ritual, love, death, trauma, and twisted minds. Tandy and Victor’s story was disturbing, dark, and sick. Jinx’s character is not only unlikeable but the worst character with a dark and twisted mind. The book can be triggering for some. The ending was so heartbreaking. The narration was good
Thanks to the Publisher.

The first Eric Larocca book I could not finish. I liked You've Lost A lot of Blood but they have steadily been getting worse and worse.

3.5 stars!
Nothing like a horror novel when you're looking for a bit of a reset and At Dark, I Become Loathsome is no exception!
I think this is my third of Eric LaRocca's books and he consistently produces uniquely odd stories that are quite grotesque but always leave me wanting story-wise. This was a great character study and I really enjoy internet horror so the chatroom aspect was a great touch. Weirdly I think the two stories within the story were my favorite parts because they were narratively well-rounded and set a very strange pace within the rest of the novel. Ashley's hallucinations of his wife and child I enjoyed less because it feels heavy-handed and makes me generally distrust Ashley's account of reality. The path of the story was interesting and suspenseful but I think it ends on kind of an empty note.
It's solid, it's creepy, but I don't feel the bone deep unease or satisfaction that I like to get after a really good horror story. Still, I like what LaRocca is doing and always love to see what he's come up with. The narrator was amazing, shoutout to him for really putting his back into it.
Thank you to Eric LaRocca and Blackstone publishing for this ARC in exchange for my full, honest review!
Happy reading!

As a fan of the author’s other stories, this book definitely lives up to the hype. Disturbing and addicting, I had to listen to this audiobook in one sitting. Has a great twist and if you’re a fan of strange horror, mystery type books, you should definitely give it a listen!
