3.5/5 rounded up
This was my first book by Terri Parlato. It was a good book and I was entertained but it's not one I'll particularly remember.
It was a nice combination of police/detective procedural and domestic thriller. I do like the storyline and that all the ends were tied up at the end.

Review: Watch Your Back - by Terri Parlato
Rating 4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Version: Audiobook
As soon as I finished this audiobook, the first thing I said to myself was “talk about your past catching up to you”. 😯 It didn’t grab me right away because I found the audio a little slow and depressing to begin with. After turning the speed up I instantly became hooked. So many twists that I did not see coming until the very end and I truly loved how everyone’s roles were played out. I really liked Detective Rita’s perspective and her thought process solving the case. I would most definitely recommend this book. Terri is a new author to me and I will be checking out her other books for sure.
Synopsis - Which in my opinion does not do this book justice. “Amid the depths of a bleak Boston winter, a recently married couple find their lives and their relationship unraveling after a series of deadly accidents.
After a whirlwind courtship, Nathan and Eve have settled into domestic life. They have a lovely home on a quiet street, a beautiful baby girl, and even the perfect babysitter to care for her. And yet, something isn’t quite right.
The stress in Eve’s life is mounting, both professionally and personally. Though the clinic where she works has been remodeled since its notorious days as an institution for the criminally insane, she feels increasingly uneasy there. And in her own neighborhood, a break-in at a nearby empty house hasn't helped, either.
Detective Rita Myers hasn’t yet figured out whether Eve is a target or a suspect, but every disturbing discovery in this usually peaceful neighborhood seems to revolve around her. Only as a deadly ice storm crashes through does it become clear just how far from perfect Eve and Nathan’s lives really are. And as the cracks in the surface come to light, so do the sinister secrets that lie beneath . . .”
Thank you @netgalley for the opportunity to listen to this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

A solid 4 stars on this one! While it didn’t grab me right away and I found the audio a little slow moving to start, I turned the speed up to 1.5 and before I knew it I was hooked. This was a solid mystery that kept me guessing and although I guessed parts of it, there were still some surprises.
This wasn’t an edge of your seat kind of thriller, but it was a solid, good old-fashioned kind of mystery and I enjoyed reading Rita’s viewpoint. It felt a little like being in an old detective mystery. An enjoyable listen!

I guess this book is part of a series, which wasn’t clear to me prior to listening. It makes sense now that I know that though. I enjoyed the multiple point of views this book had but it moved a little slower than I would have liked.

This story is told from multiple POV - a wife, a husband, and a detective. I found the pace to be very slow and the plot to be a bit far fetched.
It wasn't advertised that this was book three in the Detective Rita Myers series. While most of the book works okay as a standalone, there were several things in Rita's personal life that seemed missing. It makes sense now to know that there were others in the series.
I dont know if it would have been better if I had read the others but I felt that I was missing background information (Publishers, PLEASE start advertising books as being part of a series!)
Many thanks to NetGalley and RBMedia for allowing me to read this ALC.

This was a good quick read. There were good twists and suspense.
Thank you to RBmedia via NetGalley for the opportunity to listen and review this book.

I liked this book but the twists at the end we are a little much and too interconnected, it didn't seem possible to have that many connections with the same person. But still enjoyed.

Apparently this was a series and I didn’t realize it, but still enjoyed it as a stand alone book :) It’s a quite typical mystery/domestic stuff and not bad at all, but forgettable as well. Narration was good.

This book was okay for me! My rating would fall somewhere in the middle of the road, not the best, not the worst. I think the book starts off very promising, and it kept me intrigued, but it was kind of a slow burn to the end. There was some twists that I didn’t see coming and some that were expected. Overall, this was a decent read.

WOW! I haven't read anything by this author yet but this was a great first taste of her work!
This was so good, the only thing that fell a tiiiiny bit short (enough for 1 star off but not to seriously take away any enjoyment of the rest of the story) was the big baddie reveal.
I thought the narrators were great for this story. I was kept interested in the story, their pacing was good, and emotions were conveyed well.
The story, overall, was tense and I was so interested in finding out what would happen! There were some thrilling moments and lots of times I did NOT know who to trust! Just how I like a thriller/ mystery to be :)
TW for kidnapping, coma, and de@th (of side character).

I really liked this book! I hadn't heard of this author, but was interested in the premise. The narration, story, multiple perspectives made this book really great! I was guessing up until the very end.

This thriller had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish! The plot was incredibly gripping, with twists and turns that kept me guessing at every chapter. The pacing was perfect, building suspense without ever dragging, and the characters were well-developed and complex. What truly stood out, though, was the ending—I did not see it coming. It was a jaw-dropping conclusion that tied everything together in a way that was both satisfying and mind-blowing. A truly exceptional read, and one I’d highly recommend to anyone who loves a good, unpredictable thriller.

5 out of 5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to listen to this in exchange for an honest review.
I was so excited when I saw that there was a new Detective Rita Meyers novel up for review and I requested it right away. I loved the last book and was excited to see what was going on in Rita's life and how she would solve the latest mystery. "What Waits in the Woods" was one of my favorite books of 2024. When Psychiatrist Eve Thayer's baby daughter Rosie is kidnapped Rita must find her. The mystery only gets deeper from there.

Watch Your Back by Terri Parlato was a great read filled with unexpected twists and unlikely characters. I hadn’t realized this was a series and maybe should have read the first two to relate to some of the characters.

4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
✨ Multiple POV, detective work and suspense thriller .
✨as this is a part of the series ,it can be read standalone. The book comes into three pov and it was sometimes confusing as it gets into third person perspective.
Anyway, the book has a predictable ending, fast paced and worth the read.
Thankyou for the opportunity to read this book for a honest opinion.

In Watch Your Back, Terri Parlato delivers an engaging and suspenseful thriller! The audiobook kept me hooked from start to finish, with plenty of twists and turns that made me question everyone. The narrators did an excellent job bringing the characters to life.
The story follows Nathan and Eve, a married couple who live a pretty stable life with their daughter. Soon their lives are turned upside down, when random occurrences start happening and it makes them question are these occurrences coincidental, or are they being targeted. Great read and I plan to read more by this author.
Thank you RBmedia for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I'm not sure why so many thriller/mystery books have plot points that are just so outlandish.

Watch your back can be read as a stand alone thriller for those who have not read the previous books by the author. However for those who have you will enjoy the return of detective Rita Meyers in the third investigative police procedural book in the series.
For fans of psychology / psychiatry, domestic suspense, new motherhood and multiple points of view.
I liked how the chapters were split between the husband, the wife and the detective. This really helped attribute towards character development because usually in these genre books we don’t always get the husbands perspective but it was interesting to see the own inner thoughts whilst all the chaos was going on to really understand how they operated as individual people and within the relationship.
I enjoyed the narration of the audiobook and listening to it definitely helped give the overall book a fast paced feel to it.
Thank you to RB Media and the author for the alc!

This story is told from the POV of three people - a wife, a husband, and a detective. It's a really slow story that starts off strongly but quickly becomes so slow that it was difficult to stay interested. Things got a little repetitive, and the tension never really increased or came through well in the writing. And the antagonist just felt silly and their motivation was OTT/dramatic to the point where it was really difficult to find it even remotely believable.
It wasn't advertised that this was book three in the Detective Rita Myers series. While most of the book works well as a standalone, there were several things in Rita's personal life that just didn't make sense until I found out this wasn't the first book. The characters were pretty bland overall, though Rita was certainly the most likeable and I enjoyed her POV in general.
If you like the series, then you'll probably enjoy this one. I don't really recommend reading it as a standalone like I did, though. (Publishers, PLEASE start advertising books as being part of a series!) My thanks to NetGalley and RBMedia for allowing me to read this work. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Watch Your Back (audio) 4⭐️
This domestic suspense grabbed my attention immediately. Husband and wife, Nathan and Eve, find themselves questioning their happiness within their relationship, but that gets further complicated when their baby goes missing. This was fast paced with many characters introduced which had me questioning absolutely everyone. This is told from 3 POV: Eve, Nathan, and Rita (lead detective on the case). I didn’t realize this is part of a series focused on Rita, but it can be read as a standalone book.
I really enjoyed having 3 different narrators, one for each main character. The voice actors did a great job! I did have some sound quality issues where I found it difficult to find a good volume. I listen to a lot of audio books and kept finding myself finding some chapters difficult to hear if the sound wasn’t at just the right volume(?) I don’t know if I’m describing that well, but it didn’t seem to be the actual voices that were causing an issue, more production related, especially for Eve’s chapters. Very subtle issue.
