I typically struggle to stay engaged with crime/procedural series, but this book was functional as a stand-alone. This helped as I was not familiar with the other books concerning Detective Rita Meyers.
This book kept me hooked as it hit very close to home. The abduction of a child is so terrifying to me, especially considering that I have my own two baby girls.
The story unfolds through alternating POVs of Detective Meyers, Eve, and Nathan. All three brought new insight to the story. That said, I felt that there wasn’t enough focus on the fact that there is a MISSING BABY. A lot of the drama surrounded the failing marriage, which is a trope that is overdone in these types of books, unfortunately.
Ultimately I thought some of the twists were a little unrealistic, which was a bit of a turn off. However, the story, character development, and conclusion were satisfactory enough that I’d be interested to follow more of the series.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

I love Terri Parlato audiobooks! I always get excited when I see she has a new one coming out. Nick Mills, Christina Moore, and Rebecca Quinn Robertson narrated this book and I absolutely loved their voices. They play these characters so well. They will keep you entertained through the entire book. I was also excited to have another mystery for Detective Rita to solve. I LOVE her character. This was another book with a well written story and characters.
Psychiatrist Eva Thayer never intended on getting married and having a family but an accident led her to Nathan's Collision Shop and that changed everything. Now she finds herself struggling with a marriage, a new baby and a high pressure career. She thought she found the perfect nanny in Barbara until her baby goes missing while she was watching her. Then their is a break in at the empty house that backs up to their house. Is all of this just a series of coincidences or is something happening? Detective Rita doesn't think so and she's on the case!
This book will have you second guessing yourself and everyone in the book. This was such a great psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat. I definitely didn't see the twists and turns that were coming and that made it fun and interesting. Terri always makes sure you have a good time when reading or listening to her books. I would definitely recommend this book and anything that Terri Parlato writes.
Thank you NetGalley and RB Media and Recorded Books for allowing me to listen to this ALC for my honest opinion.

Watch Your Back by Terri Parlato on audio was ….. ok. I absolutely hate reviews that land in the middle of the stars. It’s so much easier to effusively praise those hits that capture you, or poke fun at the ones which are awful. This novel lands smack in the middle. I read it, thought it was ok, would probably not read it again. Turns out the main character has been featured in two earlier books which make me, as the reader, anxious when I don’t know I’ve jumped into a series accidentally.
The genre was also a mixed bag - police procedural combine with domestic thriller. The trio of narrators, Nick Mills, Christina Moore, and Rebecca Quinn Robertson were fabulous.

I feel like we were built up to rush the ending. At times i was confused with what was going on. At first I was drawn in and really invested but lost

Wow! This was my first book by Terri Parlato and it was an absolutely thrilling ride that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish! Set against the chilling winter backdrop of Boston, the story follows psychiatrist Eve Thayer as her seemingly perfect life begins to unravel. With unexpected twists, dark secrets, and an unsettling atmosphere, the suspense builds as Eve, her husband Nathan, and Detective Rita Myers all become entangled in a mystery far deeper and more dangerous than they could have ever imagined. And the audiobook cast! Holy cow! They did such a good job, and really brought the book to life!
Parlato expertly blends domestic suspense with thrilling detective work, making this book an unforgettable page turner with surprises at every corner. I definitely feel like this one is a must read for anyone who loves a good psychological thriller!
A huge thank you to Netgalley and RBmedia for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook! All thoughts and opinions are my own
***Contains some MA language and infidelity

A very interesting read. I feel that the title doesn't really reflect the plot of the story, but I did enjoy this novel. It wasn't what I was expecting. Surprising in a good way!

Thank you to NetGalley and RBMedia for the review copy of this audiobook.
From NetGalley description: "Amid the depths of a bleak Boston winter, a recently married couple find their lives and their relationship unraveling after a series of deadly accidents".
I was actually quite surprised by this one. In a good way. I am bad about trying to predict what's going to happen... who the suspect is... etc.
Throughout this book, I was sure I had it all figured out. It was obvious. Red herring? This book had an unsuspecting twist in it that wrapped everything up great.

This was a solid 3.5, but not quite exciting enough for me to round to 4. This is part of a series, but I read as a standalone & had no issues. I'm actually surprised that the character the series is based on (Rita Myers) felt to be a little more of a background character. This was good enough to keep my attention until the very end, and I would definitely read more by this author & in this series. The two main issues I had with this were:
1. Predictability - I correctly guessed the main "whodunit" within the first 15% of the book. I don't want to give spoilers, so I won't say what led me to that conclusion, but it was kind of disappointing. I was hoping I'd be proven wrong.
2. Motive - The motive for ALL of the craziness was just not enough. It pushed it a little too far over the unbelievable line for me to really love it. If there had been better motivating factors, I think it would've pushed this to 4 stars.
Again, even with those negatives, I still enjoyed the book and would love to read more by Terri Parlato. Thanks to NetGalley & the publisher for my copy!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc of Watch Your Back. A great mystery/ thriller. I enjoyed it and will recommend it to all.

The first 25% of this book or hour and a half was kinda boring. Nothing major happening but generally setting up. The plot started all at once and from there it was a consistent cycle of chaos!
I loved the little detail of the detective sketching the faces of those shes interviewing and well and the minor back story for her character instead of her only major plot being about her job.
I enjoyed the multitude of characters. It made everyone have some sort of guilt! Best friend, babysitter, clients, coworker, even the husband for a second
BUT THE REAL TWIST THREW ME WAY OFF!!!! I kinda figured it out but I didn’t expect the connections! I was so taken aback and I love when books catch me off guard! The storyline and characters came together all at once in a major climax. Tying everything in a neat bow.

This book began with great promise and initially captivated my attention. However, I encountered a significant issue with the narration of Eve's character. The reader's pacing was noticeably slow, which detracted from the overall experience and made it challenging to engage with her perspective. Even when I adjusted the playback speed to 1.5x, the narration still felt sluggish, which was my primary concern with the audiobook format.
Despite this drawback, I thoroughly enjoyed the story itself. It is an excellent suspense thriller, effectively utilizing three distinct points of view that kept me guessing throughout. The pacing of the narrative felt well-balanced, and I appreciated how the book provided glimpses of future events, seamlessly integrating them into the plot rather than reserving them for the conclusion.
Overall, I look forward to exploring more works by Terri Parlato, as this book showcased her talent for crafting an engaging and suspenseful narrative.

That was the best 9 hours that I’ve ever spent with audiobook indeed!
I’m into thrillers, detectives and every other genre which is somehow connected to solving the riddles. Sure enough it’s something fresh: easy read though very complex and intricate!
Especially I liked that It’s not overextended which often happens with the books in this genre.
I really believed that I solved it in the middle of the book! But guess what - I changed my mind a couple of times after that! The plot unfolds like a complex puzzle, each twist and turn more shocking than the last.
I truly recommend this book if you are into thrillers!

I enjoyed all the twists of the book but I personally struggled to get into the slow burn of it. It could be a reading slump, could be the narrators, or maybe the story line. I would like to read other books by the author and listen to this again at a later date.

So excited that I was chosen to be an ARC reader for this book. I enjoyed the storyline even though at some point it was kind of hard keeping up with all the characters. I feel sometimes important points were missed or jumped over but in all it was a good ready. If you are a fan of suspense and a final who did it then this is the book for you.

Thank you NetGalley and RBmedia for the opportunity to listen to this audio book.
Voting mid. I like the 3 point of view. I did not want to DNF - however I found myself tuning out and having to rewind. Twist was meh.... some a bit predictable. definite 2.5- voted up..

Thank you NetGalley for the audiobook!
Part of my review was going to be about how I wasn't sure why there was so much of the detective's personal life and backstory but it turns out this is third in a series so that makes more sense. Can definitely be read as a standalone though, it didn't take anything away from the main plot.
Eve is the worst psychiatrist you've ever met and honestly it's almost comical as she ponders if she should maybe take time off or see a therapist about the events of the story. She does not.
The story itself progresses pretty quickly and I really enjoyed the little pieces dropped throughout all being tied together at the end. The narrators did a fantastic job.

What a book with twists and turns. I couldn't stop listening. If I have one complaint, it's that I am tired of books where they tell it from each main character's viewpoint. The narrator, however, was good and the characters were very well developed.

Thank you to NetGalley, the audio house, the narrator and the author for the opportunity to listen to a complimentary copy of this audiobook in return for a review, based upon my honest opinion.
This was a good road trip book, it had lots of twists and some interesting characters. This is my first book by this author, but I would definitely check out more many times my husband, and I thought we had figured out who who the antagonist was, and we were wrong almost every time. I did not know this book was part of a series, and I will be checking out more books in this series. I really enjoyed the main character, detective Rita Myers.

The story was intriguing the first few chapters then it was dragging. It was very slow burn.
Ending was good so as to why I still give it 3 stars

Chilling, twisty, and unputdownable! This is a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you are looking for a suspenseful read, this is the book for you. Do not let this being the third book in the series discourage you. Each can be read as a standalone.
