Alright. I have to admit that I had no idea what the plot of this book was. The way that the POVs were split up was incredibly confusing. There were urban fantasy elements but it felt like the weirdest mix of fantasy and contemporary that I’ve read recently. I feel like I sped through this just to finish it because it was that painful.

I’m a sucker for anything rooted in Greek mythology—especially if Hades is involved. (Seriously, if you slap a god of the underworld in your story, I’m already halfway to hitting the “add to cart” button.) The premise of A Goddess Unraveled is fantastic and immediately pulled me in. There’s so much potential here.
Lexi Maxwell, our sheltered heiress, discovers her life has been one long lie. Enter Luke Carrington, the mysterious stranger who’s more than he seems (hint: he’s Hades in a tailored suit). Their chemistry crackles, and the forbidden romance angle is deliciously tempting.
However, the story could definitely use a little tightening up. Some scenes felt like they meandered, and the pacing sometimes got bogged down when it should have been building momentum. A solid editing pass could have really sharpened the emotional beats and streamlined the flow. It’s one of those books where you can see the brilliance peeking through—you just wish it had gotten a little more polish to really let it shine.
One aspect that left me scratching my head was the vague handling of Hades' past with Persephone. It's clear they have history (and a present?), but the story tiptoes around it without providing clarity. Given the sizzling chemistry between Lexi and Hades, a more transparent exploration of his past relationships would have added depth and alleviated any lingering doubts about his intentions.
Still, if you’re like me and have a soft spot for myth retellings and morally complicated gods, you’ll probably find something to enjoy here.

Lexi just graduated from University and her family decided to throw her a party. Little did Lexi know her family invited a bunch of boys to help her find a match she really didn't want. Then Luke Carrington shows up and he is the man she was very surprised by. He is the only one who lets her talk and actually listens to what she is saying. Her parents, brother, and godfather have warned her to stay away from Luke but she is putting an end to everyone making decisions for her and does what she actually wants. Lexi has very few moments of freedom in her life and wants more. She decides she is going to fight for her freedom. Then her whole world gets turned upside during the celebration. She doesn't know who she can trust anymore and learns that it is Luke and decides to take things farther with him.
Going into this is knew it was a Hades and Persephone retelling with a twist. If you go in expecting a normal retelling you will not like it. You have to go in with an open mind. I enjoyed it knowing this. I loved the world building and the mythology involved. I really like Hades and Lexi together and how he always gave her a choice know no one else has before. I liked see who each character ended up being and how it was all connected to her. I can't wait to read the next book!!
Thank you so much Morgan Rider and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to be apart of the ARC Team!❤️

I liked the premise of this book and typically enjoy Persephone and Hades stories, so I thought I’d enjoy this. That being said, I think this story has some pacing issues, specially the amount of time dedicated to a weekend long party. So much of the story centers on these festivities, so the rest of the story feels a bit rushed. I think there’s a lot of room to further develop this world and story. Lexi’s parents felt contrived in the service of the plot, and the characterization of side characters also felt a little off.
The main characters are compelling enough for me to finish the story though, but then there are moments where they’re frustrating. I’m not sure if I missed the connection between Lexi and Persephone altogether, but this is mostly a Lexi story with Hades as the MMC and Persephone is an afterthought at the end and presented as an absent wife/lover.
ARC Review @netgalley

As a history major, I was really excited for a story that delved into Greek mythology. I enjoyed many aspects of the story and appreciated the creativity behind it, but I struggled to connect with the female main character. I found it difficult to relate to her in several ways, though I recognize that this could be due to her age and her privileged, sheltered lifestyle.

Thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group had for sending an ARC of this.
I actually remember when this was just on Wattpad, but it had been some years since I’ve read it so it felt like I was reading it for the first time again. I’m always down for a Greek mythology inspired Romantasy or romance, whatever it is I’m going to read it. I found myself feeling like the beginning of the book was a bit slow for me, it took a little bit to get into but once the story did pick up, I was engaged and I was looking forward to reading more. This is like Hades and Persephone inspired, but our main character isn’t Persephone. Persephone is a character outside of our main character who is Lexi. Lexi does not know who Hades is when she originally meets him. She meets him as Luke and he’s just a normal person. It’s later revealed that she is a demi goddess and Luke is actually Hades and a lot of her other family members are well known Greek mythological gods. Some drama happens with her Uncle Z a.k.a. Zeus and she runs to Hades because she feels like Hades is the only one who hasn’t completely been lying to her. Through the book, you see their relationship develop but there’s still a lingering question of what is happening with Persephone and how is that relationship going to work? I’m definitely looking forward to the next book because I have some unanswered questions that I would like to be answered.

The male gaze was too strong on this one. I am also not a fan of Greek mythology retold in contemporary settings.

Thank you NetGalley and Wattpad Books for the ARC.
Hades/Persephone retelling books are always an instant want to read for me. I was intrigued by the modern day twist but sadly it just fell flat. The writing was very juvenile for an adult book; it just overall reads like no one did more than a first quick edit. The story idea is great, if the author did a rewrite of it I would give it another try but as is I can’t really recommend.

This book was a quick read and the flow was good. I really enjoyed the overall development of Lexi. This story is set over the weekend for a graduation party for Lexi. This came after a read I couldn’t put down so it made it go quickly for me- however at times it does read like there is not much actually happening? It’s a weekend party and that’s about it- I think I wanted it to have more going on. The bones of the story are great but so much more could have been done.

*Thank you net galley for the arc!*
DNF.
Lost my interest very quickly. I think I will give it another chance though. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood at the time but I just couldn't get into it. I am moving it back to my tbh.

This book was very fun! A twist on the classic Hades/Persephone trope. I appreciated the FMC’s headstrong conviction and willingness to stand up for what’s right. It was interesting seeing the Greek gods as a misfit family. The lore/world building with the ambassadors was interesting and felt fresh. I’m interested to see where it goes next.
While this book hit at the right time for me, if you are sensitive to writing style, this may not be the one for you. It felt very fanfic at times, but I personally didn’t mind since the story kept me sucked in.

I love a Hades/Persephone retelling and was excited to read this one. An interesting and new take on the myth but many of the plot points failed to launch. There was a lot of potential and great ideas but nothing really developed. The characters had good chemistry and the author seems very creative so I have hopes for future books!

I wanted so badly to like this book. SO badly, because I LOVE a good Hades/Persephone story, but with that I'm incredibly picky. I don't enjoy many that lean on the reader's ignorance and one of the MCs (usually the Persephone figure).
For A Goddess Unraveled, I was incredibly annoyed at Lexi, the FMC. She constantly complains about her restrictive life but never goes into why it's restrictive, and also, babe, you moved away for college... your parents aren't there, so why are you still complaining? We as the reader know that she's somehow linked to Persephone, and the hints that "Uncle Z" and other "misfit friends who are likefamily" are the other members of the Greek pantheon are so obvert it made it confusing when suddenly Lexi has a mother and father (that's NOT Uncle Z ya know) and a brother. I'm sorry what? And the POV's being at the top of the chapter of "Lexi/Hades/Lexi" was unnecessary and repetitive.
I could never find myself rooting for any characters, and the dialogue was stilted and one-dimensional, so I don't plan on finishing this series. I hope the audience for this book finds it, but I don't plan on being seated.

A Goddess Unraveled showcases a compelling tale that’s inspired by the myth of Hades and Persephone, with some interesting twists and turns set in a modern-day setting. Morgan Rider presents a different take and I can say that this was an interesting read.
Lexi, our female main character, goes on a journey of newfound self-discovery as she’s thrust into a world relearning who she is at her core and what she truly desires for her life. She’s even willing to go to the underworld to do so…
I feel like this story has so much potential if only it fully flushed out some plot lines more here and there. I think I would’ve been able to connect with both the characters and the plot more. Nonetheless, I’ll always pick up something Greek myth-inspired and would encourage others to give this book a chance. It may cater more towards others and you never know what hidden gems you’ll find: this may be one of them for you!
Thank you to the publisher; Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group | W by Wattpad Books, the author; Morgan Rider, and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this ARC. This is my unbiased opinion and is given with free will.

✨A Goddess Unraveled✨
Thank you to Morgan and Netgalley for this gifted arc.
AGU was a modern twist on a Hades and Persephone retelling. Lexi is newly returned from college when her graduation party turns south as she’s met with prospective husbands, a new title she doesn’t want, and a revelation that alters her reality. Through this, her only constant is Luke Carrington. But he has a secret too. Can the spark between them bridge the gap that has spanned years?
The first 50% is pretty slow paced as we maneuver through this party and the revelations. Luke and Lexi’s relationship begins to blossom and, the last half, they are tried and tested. While I struggled to find a deep connection with the characters, I do love the way Morgan wrote Luke and found him to be very charming.
Tropes you may find in AGU are age gap, hidden identities, spice, Greek mythology, modern retelling, and a conclusion that allows for it to feel like a stand-alone even though it’s part of a new series. AGU releases May 13.

Thank you to NetGalley for A Goddess Unraveled.
I'm always excited to find a new greek mythology retelling. Unfortunately, I was not a huge fan of this one. It read very YA for something that is obviously adult content. It is very much a Wattpad book. The main character was very whiny and unlikeable. Every single relationship was just really weird. A lot of the characters didn't like each other but the relationships were lacking so you didn't get the whole story. And the constant hinting/foreshadowing about Persephone felt both overdone and underdone. And maybe that could have added a little more action and livened it up. But, then it never happened. I also felt very uncomfortable with the age and experience gap here.
Overall, it could have had potential if the main character wasn't just the definition of the whiny teenager, trying to rebel for the first time (and doing it poorly). Just a little more depth could have added at least a star. But for now 2 Stars. Will not be continuing with the series.

This was a surprisingly fun time! I loved the retelling of a Hades x Persephone story. Lexi and Luke are absolutely a couple of love to see more from. Their passion and chemistry are incredible!

Thank you netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Although I usually love a reimagined Persephone and Hades story, I could barely get through this book. It got the 2 stars because I finished, but it got to the point where I was skimming it a lot to get to the end. It felt like it was the longest weekend ever written. When I read the synopsis, I was hoping that we'd get further along in the relationship aspect of Hades and Lexi or answer some questions, but we ended up with even more to the point that it wasn't worth it anymore. I don't think I'll continue the series at this rate.

DNF @ 63% 😔
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book!
Truth be told, I found myself skimming this book just so I could finish. At first, my attention was hooked as the introduction of this older, mysterious and hot man, Luke is introduced and it is clear that our FMC, Lexi is to stay away from him. However, my attention dwindles when I couldn’t really like either of the main characters.
It was also hard for me to envision this as a Hades/Persephone retelling - the only relation I can see them as is the age gap and the forbidden romance, which was disappointing as I love retellings of this wonderful story.

I could not put this book down; I read it in a day!! I love reading about Greek mythology and the different stories; this one did not disappoint me. I liked how the author showed a different side to Hades. It shows that he is not the nicest person, but he is not as evil as so many people thought he was. Then you have Lexi, who is just striving to find her own two feet and be seen as a more independent person. The way her family treated and lied to her aggravated me to high heavens. I am glad that Hades was there to help her through everything. Oh, and don't get me started on the magnificent way that the Underworld was described and how it started to change when Lexi arrived. My heart broke when Hades told the truth about his relationship with Persephone. I would gladly reread this story multiple times. I hope to see more writing from this author and maybe a continuation with these characters.
