Suitor Armor, Vol. 2 builds beautifully on the foundation of the first volume, diving deeper into its lush fantasy world and expanding the emotional complexity of its characters. Lucia’s growth as both a mage and a person shines as she takes on new challenges—her search for Quinn, her confrontation with the truth about the fairy-human war, and her deepening bond with Modeus.

The story strikes a compelling balance between adventure and introspection. The revelations about the kingdom’s history raise the stakes and add welcome layers of nuance and tension, especially as Lucia begins to question who she can really trust. Modeus’s journey, meanwhile, is equally gripping: his slow, sometimes heartbreaking discovery of personhood adds emotional weight, especially as he and Lucia are forced to confront his original, deadly purpose.

Purpah’s art remains a standout, with expressive characters, soft color palettes, and enchanting designs that suit both the romantic and perilous tones of the story. Fans of the first volume will find even more to love here—higher stakes, more secrets, and a tender, evolving romance that walks a fine line between hope and tragedy.

Final verdict: Suitor Armor, Vol. 2 is a rich, emotionally resonant installment that deepens the world, strengthens character arcs, and leaves you eager for what’s next.

This was a really cute story! I'm surprised that Modeus is the first one to learn that she's a fairy and not her best friend Krisi. I still don't know what to think about the court mage. He's very... confusing. I want to like him but I don't think I will in the end. Baynard is still one of the best characters and I enjoyed the backstory we had of the King so those were really good additions to the overall plot.

Oh my god, better than the first volume? Maybe! This volume gives you more backstory on Modeus, Sir Peres and more. I honestly thought that showing Lucia’s hesitation and reservations about Modeus made the story feel more real. I also thought that the King’s motivations revealed ended up making him much more relatable. I like that the author makes the relationship between him and Kirsi so sweet and caring when it would’ve been just as easy to make those characters cold and aloof. It’s part of what makes this series unique. It uses the same tropes that we’re used to, but manages to make them feel fresh and interesting. I want to know what Norrix’s deal is. Are you evil or not, my guy?
The art, as always, is impeccable. This is one of my favorite graphic novel series and I can’t wait to read the next volume! Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read more of this series and hopefully more in the future!

I love the way that Modeus is...evolving(?) for lack of a better word. Poor Lucia is caught between trying to live her life, doing what is right, and learning about herself. I feel for Norrix, but he's also stuck up his own rear end at times.

I received an ARC through NetGalley for an honest review.

Unfortunately, this was a DNF @ 37%.

I continue to by stymied by anything with the romantasy tag (although, I have been saving Faebound for a rainy day), and while this was out of my comfort zone, I've been having an absolute ball with the Webtoon collections that have been coming out, so I was hopeful this would scratch an itch.

The premise is fun. An awakened suit of armour is the bodyguard and suitor of a lady in waiting for the future queen with the added wrinkle of the lady being a fairy and the suit of armour being created to murder fairies.

The problem is that the characters, script, and artwork are all competent, but didn't pique my interest. As with the criticism of a lot of romantasy, it comes of as a rather bland and generic fantasy without the writing and characters for those not there for the novelty of the thing.

Judging by other reviews I'm clearly in the minority and your mileage may vary.

This just wasn't for me and, while I am incredibly grateful to have been given access to the following volume, I won't be reading it.

Such a brilliant second volume! I’m seriously so in love with these characters!

This volume includes episodes 18 through 38, so my review will be based on just those.

I absolutely love the budding relationship between Modeus and Lucia. They are just the perfect balance for one another and I get absolutely giddy reading about them! One thing I really liked in this book was how Modeus stood up for her when the librarian was being sexist. Perfect MMC! On Lucia’s part, I loved that she was teaching Modeus how to read! This definitely brought thoughts of Beauty and the Beast to mind, which is my favorite Disney movie so obviously a win for me. Lastly, we find out what Modeus was created for…but we ALSO see him totally reject that. So he can think and feel things??? HMMMMMMMM.

Speaking of standing up for others, I loved that Lucia stood up for Lady Kirsi against her betrothed King who was being a little oblivious to what Lady Kirsi wanted to do in their times together. While it wasn’t an intentional thing on his part, he definitely had to have his eyes opened to what Lady Kirsi’s interests were, and Lucia did that perfectly! I especially loved how he let Lady Kirsi give him makeovers because that’s what she liked to do. That is so swoony 😊

I loved that we found out a lot more information about pixies in this volume, especially since Lucia still has her little pixie captive, Lazuli. The fact that they are often used to carry messages for fairies and can mimic voices but cannot come up with their own use of those words in that voice were super interesting and I think will be useful in the future…I especially loved seeing Lucia and Lazuli turn a corner towards friendship in this volume because I really like Lazuli (come on! She’s a spunky pixie, what’s not to love?!) and want them to be aligned ultimately. There is even a part where Lazuli is trying to kick Modeus’s ass because she is trying to defend Lucia, because they are cool now, and it’s hilarious!

Lastly, I can’t leave a review without talking about Peres and Sir Baynard. I love these two and their secret relationship, but I especially loved how we got to see their backstory of how they met and fell in love. We also learned a lot of Peres, specifically how he came from a dishonorable family. Even though he did nothing wrong himself, just being born to them was enough to mark him. Perhaps this is why he is the sweetie he is? We also learned a bit more about Sir Baynard. Perhaps there is more to him than meets the eye with his critical thinking and “acting” skills.

Thank you to NetGalley, Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press, and Purpah for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.

Suitor Armor Vol. 2 deepens the stakes with richer character growth and stunning art. The tension between love, duty, and identity hits hard, and the world feels even more alive. A couple scenes moved fast, but the emotional weight and visual beauty make it a powerful continuation.

Cute series! Solid fantasy romance which I presume will remain clean as it’s a walking suit of armor for the “male” and not a flesh and blood person like the servant maid. Interesting world building! They don’t take long to read but each volume has doled out a solid bit of character development and world building. I’ve marked book there as a to read title

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I had started reading this on Webtoons, and loved it, but had lost track for multiple reasons. It thrills me that this is seeing a more widely available release. The story developing between Lucia and Modeus is so wonderful and delightfully fraught with problems--a whole made-to-kill fairies problem for starters. Each character is very much their own, and the world developing around them is very well fleshed out. I can't wait to pick back up on Vol. 3!

ARC Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you Netgalley and Ten Speed Press for this ARC.

Happy publication day!

Beautiful and unique art style give credit to this whimsical and dark fairytale-like story. I started reading this series expecting a light hearted romance, but as the series progresses its dark and tragic bones are being exposed.

Am I rooting for a romance between a fairy and a suit of armor? Yes. Yes I am. Slow burn.

Soooo many secrets and mysteries, and small moments of warmth and joy. The destruction of innocence and the harsh realities of war being reflected in these characters is beautifully tragic.

That ending! Oh man. What a way to wrap up this second volume.

Omgz! The cliffhanger ending! I need more now!

This is a great continuation in the Suitor Armor series. I loved this one just as much as the first. The plot is fast and compelling. And I am fully invested in the characters--so much so that at one point I couldn't help but cry.

A great graphic novel series. Read them back to back if you can, because those cliffhanger endings leave you wanting more.

Heat Factor: I’m not sure what’s going on with our main characters, but the king and his affianced princess finally smooch.
Character Chemistry: So. Much. Awww.
Plot: Lucia finds out Modeus was created to kill faeries, and the political situation becomes more complicated
Overall: I am so invested.

My husband asked me what I was reading, and I got very invested in explaining everything about this story (luckily there are pictures, so I could point to all the characters), and when I got to, “It’s all very exciting,” he had to agree with me. Because it is.

Because the serialized graphic novel format really only focuses on one main happening that drives the plot forward, we haven’t really taken a huge step forward in the narrative, but it’s definitely enough that I’m no longer just interested, I am fully invested in figuring out this mystery. And if there’s actually going to be some kind of romance between a sentient magical construct and a secret faerie. So here’s where we are now:

Lucia is a genuinely good soul, and she’s also in a pickle.
She likes to rescue injured animals, y’all. She’s just a kind and considerate person. I love her. But she’s also a faerie in a realm where humans are trying to kill faeries. Like, the whole point of her friend/bodyguard/shadow, Modeus, is to kill faeries. Unfortunately, both from the castle mage and the faerie that was captured in the prior book, she’s learning more about her heritage than she ever did as a child in the other king’s home, and the things she’s learning are worrisome.

Magic in humans is one (small) thing, but in the hands of the fae, it might explain why there’s a war.
Lucia’s power is exponentially greater than that of her fully trained mage mentor, and she’s had, like, one lesson. We have to wonder if that’s the reason humans are so fearful of faeries. But also, if faeries are so powerful, how is it that humans are so able to oppress them and their elf counterparts?

The war with the fae seems like it comes with a lot of indoctrination and isn’t really being controlled by the highest levels of government.
We learn that the king isn’t even in charge of the war, his uncle is. What exactly is his uncle up to? I mean, we know all faeries aren’t bad just from the two (plus the deer-shaped one we meet briefly in this book) we’ve met thus far. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

The knight and his squire are just trying to survive.
The ridiculous knight has PTSD from fighting the faeries, and he wants nothing more than never to go back there. It’s pretty clear he’s not on board with the fight, but why exactly? Meanwhile, his partner, the squire, is being heckled about why he’s not promoted yet, but a rise in station would make their secret romance much harder to hide. I really feel for these guys.

Lucia’s bestie, the future queen, could end up being an inadvertent bad guy. So could the king and the mage, but I’m not sure about the “inadvertent” label for those guys, yet.
It’s pretty clear that the future queen, Kirsi, has drunk the anti-fae coolaid, and isn’t prepared to question the justice of the war. Lucia is very clearly interested in asking questions to understand the people and situations surrounding her better, but Kirsi never does. In addition, she’s now closer to the king, who is nominally in charge of this war, and he’s got the same frame of mind. Lucia’s mentor, the castle’s mage, seems to have a greater acceptance of nuance where magic is concerned, but at the same time he created Modeus specifically to kill the fae. What’s going to happen when Lucia is suddenly behaving too outside the norm?

This book is still pretty light—possibly due to the cuteness of the illustration, which is not edgy at all—but things are happening that have fully drawn me into the mystery. I was also really saddened when the magical creature (a faerie trapped in a cervine body) was killed. But so was Modeus, so he’s continuing to be a very interesting character. I can’t wait to find out what happens (it is a bit of a cliffhanger). And, you know, the secondary characters are great, but there is no adorable like the Modeus and Lucia adorable.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. We disclose this in accordance with 16 CFR §255.

4.5 ⭐️

“You make me feel warm”

Yeah that’s enough for me to see Modeus and Lucia as endgame. Everything about their budding friendship just warms my heart. Plus the side story with Peres and Baynard is just the cutest. I can’t wait to continue to Volume 3 because that cliffhanger has me on edge omg.

Suitor Armor by Purpah has been a longtime favorite of mine! Since I originally read it on the Webtoons app, I am delighted to return to this world as the comic comes out in print!

⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

First and foremost, Purpah’s art is STUNNING. Their use of dynamic motion, reactions, emotions, colors… I could go on. There is not a wasted moment in any panel. In emotional moments the art really comes to life and just like a perfect description, it really helps the story jump off the page. I just can’t stop looking at it and I know I’ll reread this story again and again.

(Can we just take a moment to admire Lucia’s hair?)

In volume 2 of Suitor Armor, we get to see the development of Lucia’s story as she navigates her hidden identity, learning magic, and helping the silent suit of armor, Modeus, learn how to speak. What is beautiful and wistful in volume 1 becomes more dangerous and exciting in this volume, without losing the cute moments or the swoon worthy slow burn between Lucia and Modeus. Having read far past this volume online, I don’t want to say too much here but if you are a fan of fantasy, secret moments, and a story with a variety of good friends to brighten each encounter (when they are not adding to the turmoil) I highly recommend this one!

This is my honest review in exchange for a Netgalley ARC copy of this work.

Omg this is such a beautiful series, both in artwork and depth of story. So much love and possible heartache with so many of the characters! This hits all my fantasy interests and I just can’t wait to see what happens next! Can’t wait to get this at the library to see how many more people will love it with me 🥰

A great next installment of this series! Between the wonderful character development, gorgeous artwork, and lighthearted humor these are can't miss graphic novels. I'm anxiously awaiting volume 3!

Volume two is here! I was so happy to get an eARC of this one.

This one picks up right were the first one stopped, so I won't say too much about it. Of course, the art is great, but the story is progressing in a fun way as well. Lucia is learning more about her past and who she really is. Modeus is growing a lot as a character as well. He is learning more about people's emotions, including his own. Other characters are also changing and growing too.

Such a fun time, can't wait to see where this story is going!
