Jaime Lynn Hendricks has done it again! I always think of Ashley Winstead calling her the queen of the page turner, and this one is no different! Not only do I relate to being willing to do anything to save my dog, I also loved how the characters played against each other, and how the ending came together. If you love fast paced, twisty stories that leave your jaw on the ground, you will adore this one!

Special shout-out to Kim Valva, who I know on Instagram and is the name for the main character, and to Gare Billings' sweet Murphy boy for making appearances in this book!

This was fantastic. If you’re a fan of the movie Drop then this is right up your alley. From the jump the stakes were made and action hit the ground running.

A struggling waitress is made an offer she can't refuse in this addictive, page-turning mystery.

This might just be my favorite to date by this author. While it had many cliché characters, including a rich, snobby older woman with too much botox, a high powered, sleazy businessman, and a guy with a dangerous past, they were all done exceptionally well and realisticly so. Although this was a quick, easy read, there was a bit more depth than to label it as a "popcorn thriller," in my opinion. The plot was a great take on revenge and what people can be capable of when put in certain situations. What I liked most here was that there wasn't exactly some big twist that tried to blow the reader's mind to the point of trying too hard. This still had some surprises in store for us but concentrated more on the story and the people involved. The icing on the cake was the ending, leaving the reader with a devious smile and shouting "yes!" in our heads. I see this book and this author going places, and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next. Four stars.

Thank you, Netgalley and Penzler Publishers, for this ARC.

3.75 ⭐️ I received an arc of this on netgalley but it was hard to read because of all the jumbled words.

Kim is down on her luck. She’s trying to make ends meet as a waitress and her poor puppy needs a life saving surgery which she doesn’t have any money for. Someone randomly gets ahold of her with an opportunity to make some money for her dogs surgery. She can’t turn down the job, she loves her dog more than anything.

Kim’s ex boyfriend Tony is the target. He isn’t just the target for Kim though. His new fiancé wants him dead as well.

This book had more potential but overall, it was a decent book.

Thanks netgalley and publisher for the chance to read this book for free in return for my honest
opinion.

I have read every single one of Hendricks books and she’s continues to be my go to thriller author. A down-on-her-luck waitress at a posh New Jersey country club, Kim Valva couldn’t be living a more different life from the carefree socialites she serves. Her live-in boyfriend recently cheated on her, her social life is in shambles, and her dog needs a life-saving surgery that she can’t afford. Then her luck seems to change when a mysterious figure identifying themself only as The Stranger contacts her with an offer she can’t refuse: Put a pill in the new member’s drink and, when he dies, she’ll have enough money to fix her dog and her life.

Her target turns out to be Tony Fiore—Kim’s bad boy ex-boyfriend from high school. Fifteen years have passed, and he now goes by Anthony Fuller. He’s cleaned up, made tens of millions, and his gorgeous fiancée, twenty-two-year-old PJ Walsh, is on his arm.

PJ had her own agenda from the second she met Anthony. Find him, trick him, marry him, kill him. It was supposed to be easy, but she finds that while living her double life, the lines blur between who she is and who she’s pretending to be.

Stunned to see Tony again, Kim can’t bring herself to go through with spiking his drink. Instead, it is PJ who dies horrifically at the table just as dinner ends. Was someone else at the club—member or worker—tasked with poisoning PJ just as she had been instructed to do to Tony? Who would want both of them dead? With no one to trust and The Stranger to answer to, Kim must peel back the layers of deceit to reveal a deeply buried truth, more shocking than she could ever imagine…

Okay, so even though the whole idea of the story was a bit much, I had an absolute blast reading this popcorn thriller! You definitely have to just go with it and not think too hard, but for pure fun? It's the perfect book to read by the pool in the summer. I was totally into all the drama in the plot – it was so juicy and kept me wanting to know what would happen next. The story moved super fast, and switching between different characters' viewpoints kept me guessing the whole time. I honestly had no clue where things were going, and it was such a wild ride. If you're looking for a thriller that's addictive, full of twists, drama, and intrigue, definitely give this one a try – it was so much fun!

“He’d really make a great boyfriend.”

“I’m no goddamn man maid!”

“He may be a cheater but…”

Thanks to Jaime Lynn Hendricks, HighBridge Audio and Scarlet for my #gifted copy of this #audiobook

So far I’ve read #findingtessa and #alovelylie and loved both of them. So surprise I enjoyed this one as well.

People just planning to unalive people galore in this one.

The reveals were expertly timed and so well written.

Although there were a lot of characters, by the end of the book I felt I knew each of them personally. I love when an author can write like that. It’s a skill you’ve gotta have when writing a book like this and JLH def has that skill.

This is one of those books where as you’re reading you’ll be like “…annnnd the plot thickens….” So many entangled bad people in these pages and murder is always the answer to any problem.

Highly recommend this compulsive read! Finished in a day!

Binge worthy and unhinged!

Kim Valva is moonlighting as a waitress in a club for the privileged elite. Her beloved dog needs a life saving and very expensive surgery sooner rather than later. She is offered a sketchy deal by someone only known as The Stranger to slip some poison to a patron of the club and all of her financial problems will be solved. But things spiral out of control quickly when she hesitates to administer the deadly dose. She recognizes the target. It’s her ex boyfriend, Tony, from high school. She can’t kill him!

Tony arrived at the club that night, showing off his new and beautiful fiancée, Poppy Jade, otherwise known as PJ. While Kim wrestles with the decision to NOT slip poison to Tony, PJ tragically and dramatically dies during dinner. Kim is confused. Was one of her coworkers also approached by The Stranger and instructed to kill PJ? What is going on?? Can she just return the money to The Stranger and bow out of the shady deal? But how will she now raise the funds to save her dog? Or will The Stranger kill her and her dog for not following through? Oh what a tangled web of lies and deception!

I always look forward to Jamie Lynn Hendricks new books and this one was a page turner till the end. I feared for Kim’s life and wondered how PJ ended up dead when Tony was the target. Round and round it went until the twisty conclusion. So good!

Thank you Netgalley, Penzler Publishers, and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review. This book will be available for purchase on May 20, 2025

Jaime Lynn Hendricks does it again with another great, binge-worthy thriller. I was hooked from the start and couldn’t wait to see how all of the pieces of the story would fit together. I loved the character development throughout, and getting to know them through both past and present timelines. This story was full of twists, deception, and betrayal. Highly recommended this well plotted thriller!

Read if you enjoy:
✔️Multiple POVs
✔️Dual timelines
✔️Morally gray characters
✔️Popcorn thrillers
✔️Revenge

Kim is a waitress at a posh New Jersey Country Club struggling in life and worried about her dog Murphy who needs a live saving surgery that she cannot afford. Kim is contacted by an individual who calls themselves The Stranger offering her a lot of money to kill a patron by slipping a pill in his drink. Enough money to pay for her dog’s life saving surgery and allowing her to live comfortably for a while. Kim is shocked to find out the targeted patron is her first love from high school who has changed his name to Anthony and who has become a millionaire. Kim decides to back out because she cannot go through with killing him. Imagine her shock when Anthony’s fiancé, PJ dies a horrible death instead while sitting at the dining table with Anthony and other patrons. Kim cannot believe what just happened and is determined to find out who wanted Anthony dead and why his fiancé PJ died instead.

🌟 THEIR DOUBLE LIVES is twisty and original with a delicious and satisfying ending, and I predict it will be a summer hit! There were so many jaw dropping moments that my husband had to tell me to stop gasping out loud because I was startling him 🤣 I think THEIR DOUBLE LIVES has knocked Finding Tessa out of first place as my favorite Hendricks book!

This author knows how to write vile and horrible characters that get under your skin and Carla takes the prize in this book! She is something else!

🔥 Hendricks has proven herself to be a masterful thriller writer, and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!

Their Double Lives is a killer, double crossing, double take of a thriller. Each time you think you grasp what’s happening, you’re wrong. It was freaking delicious. And the last sentence? I cackled. It was the cherry on top of a brilliant book.

I am newer to Jaime Lynn Hendricks, but wow. She packs a punch. Her writing is like biting into a crispy red apple. Juicy and sweet. It makes me want to read everything she has ever written.

This is the type of book I want to wipe from my memory, just so I can read it for the first time again. You need to listen to the hype around this one, because it is a blast. Full of twists and turns, you’ll be surprised until the very end.

Kim, a waitress in an upscale country club, needs money for her ailing dog. When she is contacted by The Stranger and given a task, just slip a pill in a member's drink and all your money troubles will be gone, Kim thinks she has found the answer to her prayers. When the member turns out to be her ex-boyfriend, who has a new girl on his arm, Kim can't go through with the plan. Instead, shockingly, Kim's ex's girlfriend dies at the table. What ensues is a twisted tale told from several viewpoints. This was good from beginning to end, just when you think the twists have stopped, they keep coming until the very last page.

What a tangled web we weave! Secrets, lies, manipulation, double lives, and danger set the stage for Their Double Lives! This was such a gripping, fast paced, entertaining, addictive, and thrilling book which had me turning the pages at warp speed as I wanted to know how things were going to unfold! This book is full of twists and turns which kept me fully invested and turning those pages.

Kim Valva is a waitress who is in desperate need of making some money as Murphy, her beloved dog, needs life saving surgery. When she is contacted by 'The Stranger' who offers her a lot of money to put a pill in the drink of a member at the country club where she works, she agrees. She'll do anything to save her dog's life. Putting a pill in someone's drink sounds easy - deadly yet easy. Shockingly, her mark just happens to be Tony Fiore (now known as Anthony Fuller), her high school boyfriend. It really is a small world after all.

As the night unfolds, it is not Tony/Anthony who dies, his fiancée, twenty-two-year-old PJ Walsh dies instead. This leaves Kim reeling and wondering if someone else was tasked with killing PJ as she was tasked with killing Tony!?! Just what is going on? Who is "The Stranger" Why did PJ die? Was she murdered or did she have a food related allergy? Who can be trusted?

This was a delightfully twisted and clever tale! This was a wonderfully written, well thought out, perfectly plotted engrossing book that I had a hard time putting down! Whew! What a wild and crazy ride Their Double Lives turned out to be!

Addictive, gripping, twist filled, and hard to put down!

I was lucky enough to have both the kindle and audiobook versions of Their Double Lives which made for an exciting reading experience. I thought the narrator of the audiobook did a wonderful job of bringing the book to life!

I have been yelling at you for years to read @jaimelynnhendricksauthor books and that is never going to stop!

I’m obsessed with her books. They always have me gripped from the very first page.

I technically got Their Double Lives from @netgalley and after I got approved something kept telling me to wait until I had my physical copy in my hands. Lucky for me, Barnes and Noble shipped my copy early.

Immediately it jumped my entire TBR and I read it physically. I haven’t had an experience like this with a book in an extremely long time. I could not put this book down to save my life. It was 100% a single sitting read for me. I honestly don’t remember the last time I’ve had one of those.

Jaime Lynn Hendricks will keep you guessing until the very last page. Everything you think you might know will always get flipped on its head.

If she wasn’t on your radar before, it better be now!

May 20th be sure to get your hands on Their Double Lives. You won’t regret it!

5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a fantastic summer thriller! I was hooked on this one from the very beginning. Kim is in a tough spot, so when the chance to make some quick money comes her way she decides she has to take it. Too bad the “job” involves a familiar face from her past. She can’t go through with the plan anymore but what happens next will change everything. A fun and twisted thriller with too many people who have a reason to kill.

Despite the over the top premise this was such a fun popcorn thriller! Yes, you have to suspend all the disbelief but for sheer entertainment value? Perfect for a summer poolside read. I loved the drama surrounding the entire plot line here, it was juicy and delicious and kept me flipping the pages. The pacing was fast and furious and the multiple POVs kept me on my toes, I really had no idea which direction things would go and it was a wild ride. If you like addictive and twisty thrillers with drama and intrigue try this, such a fun one!

Super interesting premise. I figured out some things before they were revealed, but that didn’t make me like it any less. I enjoy unique plots I haven’t read yet and this is definitely one of those! I felt some things were a bit far fetched, and maybe some hard to understand, but overall solid 3 stars!!

Kim has been anonymously paid to kill a guest at the country club where she works. She would never consider it but she really needs the money. She's all ready to do it, but when the guest arrives it is her high school best friend and ex-boyfriend. He has a shiny new fiancee on his arm and it appears he's turned his bad boy reputation around. Kim can't go through with her plan to kill him, but someone dies anyway. It turns out many people at the club that night are hiding secrets of their own.

The twists and turns in this one are SO good. The last few chapters were perfection in pulling it all together. If you want a quick twisty thriller, this one will keep you on your toes!

Thank you to NetGalley and Penzler Publishes for the ARC of Their Double Lives.

This book will have you wondering: What would you do to save your dog?

A broke woman.
A beloved dog named Murphy.
A mysterious offer she definitely shouldn’t accept… but can’t refuse.

Kim Valva is the kind of gritty, loyal, and stubborn character you root for, especially when life keeps throwing her curveballs. I really liked her from the jump.

This is not a slow burn. The story dives straight into the drama, with short chapters told from alternating POVs. It’s packed with shady secrets and enough twists to keep you fully hooked.
The kind of book that has you staying up half the night and contemplating a mental health day from work. Cough cough.

The characters are messy, some deliciously unlikable and impossible to look away from. I was second-guessing everyone, and I loved it.

If you like your murder with a side of kibble, and thrillers that are fast-paced, full of scheming, and just a little unhinged, Their Double Lives is your next must-read.

Bonus points if you’re a dog person. Because… yeah. You’ll get it.

It’s a yes for me!!🖤
