I missed the first two books. That's okay, I enjoyed this one. There's not a lot of sci-fi here, it's more of a police procedural while an asteroid or comet is about to wham right into Earth.

The protagonist is looking for his sister. It's a terrific story. I like the relationship between them. This is a book about the immediate, the tangible. The phrase, "thing globally, act locally" applies well. We focus on the visible, the details like cigarette butts.

I liked the variety of characters, from the Wacky Sidekick to the partiers at Taco Bell to the Amish Farmer.

It was a fun ride, something interesting happening almost all the time. When it was over, I felt like I had spent too much time hanging out in police stations, and wanted to get out on the road.

Quick read, give it a try.
