Lovely story of two kind souls concerned with the welfare of all those around them. They each tried to make the world a better place while doubting their capacity to do so, but trying anyway. A couple of my favorite quotes from the book are, “God doesn’t sit back in His throne in heaven, measuring our acts of kindness. He celebrates each one, because even the smallest spark can dissipate the darkness in another’s life.” and “. . . every trial is significant to the one who carries it.” It was sad that so many years of resentment and misunderstandings caused such a rift between Ian and his father, causing even more heartache with his belief that he would follow in his relatives footsteps, even though those assumptions were incorrect in the first place. So much grief could have been avoided with open communication, which is often the case in so many of life’s problems. The message of the power to change and overcome weaknesses was powerful, and that allowed them to have their HEA. Thanks to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing, I received a complimentary ARC copy with no obligation to post a positive review. The thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the 4th book in the matchmaking mamas series! It definitely works as a standalone but you will want to read all of these great books some point. There is an adorable and hilarious meet cute between Ian and Amie. This is a marriage of convenience story, which I always love. However, Ian puts some rules in place to not fall in love with his wife and potentially hurt her by becoming like his father. Amie agrees to these rules but quickly comes to regret it as she finds she wants her marriage to be a true one. I loved Amie and all her quirks. She was such a sweet character. Ian drove me nuts with his rules but it is understandable with his thought process. I loved Ian and Amie together, and how they started to bond and grow close despite the rules. Also enjoyed the mothers on both sides and their scheming ways, but also how much they cared for their children. Overall I thought this was a wonderful conclusion to the series and I definitely recommend!

I can't believe that this is the final book in The Matchmaking Mamas series. It feels like the first one just came out, I blinked, and now I've read and enjoyed all four books. This has been a truly delightful series and I will miss having any more adventures with the friend group, The Rebels. And watching these very tricky and cunning mamas employing their matchmaking skills. But the good thing about a book or book series that you love, is that you can always return and reread them and find enjoyment again and again within the pages of those books and with beloved characters.
I've loved watching Anneka Walker grow in her writing talent over the years. She is truly a gifted writer and storyteller and this series is definitely one of my favorites of hers. These last two Matchmaking Mama books tie for my favorite book of hers. So well done. I just adored reading them both. I loved watching the characters grow and learn, especially with something that they have struggled with and seeing them come face to face with it and overcome. And a lot of that ability to overcome was due to the women that they come to love and find strength and acceptance in their relationships and love. So beautifully shown throughout the story. And it's not just the heroes who gain that strength and ability to overcome their struggles, the heroines do as well as they are accepted and loved by good men.
I giggled over many of the antics of Miss Amie Tyler's mom. Oh heavens, she was a character who is close to rivaling Mrs. Bennet's antics and case of nerves. Hahaha! And Lord Ian Reynold's mom was delightful in her little nudges as well. I loved it all! Even with some of the other familial struggles and frustrations, it made me so happy to watch it all play out. Especially the daring gumption of some characters to step forward even when something was hard and be able to correct some problems.
Poor Ian. He's vowed to never marry, but due to outside forces, he finds himself in a marriage of convenience. No problem though. Set up some rules and all will be well. Except he's wrong there. I loved watching him trying so hard to stick to his rules and then slowly making allowances and then running from his wife (hiding in the house, outside, etc.) and then being unable to stay too far away.
These two are just adorable together. My heart cheered for them and their sweet love story, full of chemistry, friendship, strength, trust, heartache, forgiveness, and love. I hope you love it as much as i did!
Content: Clean. Some kisses but nothing further. No language.

Happy Reading!!!

A beautiful love story with all the depth and range of emotions! Ian and Amie's journey is so worth your time. Ian, so determined to keep his rules but Amie's love is a force to be reckoned with, she breaks down all the rules to his heart! Highly recommend this masterpiece by Anneka Walker.

This was the sweetest. I was so excited for Ian’s book and it did not disappoint. He was definitely a grump in this book too but I loved how Amie softened him. The Rules of Matrimony is the fourth book in Anneka Walker’s Matchmaking Mamas series.
Ian was a grump and a bit cynical, but he cared deeply for those in need. Amie was a sweetheart and I loved how she balanced Ian. They weren’t looking for marriage but they found themselves stuck together. Their marriage of convenience was fun because it felt unique. Amie was hoping to be loved but was just trying to make due with what life had given her. Ian never planned on getting married but Amie struck him as different. They both had to learn how to let each other in and what their relationship would look like. I really liked seeing them grow.
Ian definitely had daddy issues and it was interesting to learn more about his relationship with his family. I love how Amie always sought to encourage his family relationships. Amie had to care for her mom and I felt for her. She was so sweet with her mom even when her mom created more problems.
I didn’t want to put this book down and I loved getting to see some old characters too. It was the perfect ending to this series. I would totally recommend this book! I loved the characters and I am so sad to see this series come to an end. I am excited to see what will come next. The Rules of Matrimony is a clean historical romance.

I have loved this series from the beginning and I've been excited for Ian's book ever since. What I liked most about this book is that it dealt with some history I didn't know anything about. It was interesting to learn about and see how it shaped the characters as well. Ian is wonderful! Learning about him and his motivations in life was fascinating. Amie is such a fun character and seeing her grow with Ian was so beautiful! Really well done!

A marriage of convenience, and characters that had a lot of growing to do that eventually got there. This book was all about kindness and the effects it has on those around you.
Two meddling mamas unknowingly and a little knowingly set Amie and Ian up after a funny run in meet cute at a cemetery. After Amie’s father died her and her mother stayed with family where they would overstay their welcome and then passed to the next relative. They were down on their luck and at the end of their rope. Ian needs to marry to improve his standing in parliament. The two come to an arrangement that suits and benefits both of them. The arrangement came with a set of hard rules.
Predictably they broke those rules because they caught feelings for one another, but still were adamantly trying to stick to their “rules”. Sometimes if the characters just talked to each other it would solve so many problems. Alas, books need conflict. The conflict in this book just felt redundant.
I liked the character development in this book. Both grew a ton separately and together. I did like how protective Ian was of Amie, and how Amie was so sweet and caring for her neighbors. I liked that they both were trying to make the world a better place. The back ground work they were focused on really added to the depth of the story.
I think the wedding kiss and Ian comforting Amie in the storms were my favorite part of the book. The ending resolved nicely and I felt very satisfied! Overall a cute regency read.
Favorite Quotes:

Books were meant for people who had problems and were smart enough to want to escape them.
It had likely always been that way, but sometimes, the past was a difficult coat to shed. He had let his cling to him, thinking it a source of protection. It lay at his feet now, freeing him to see hope for the first time.

Marriage of Convenience? Sign me up! I adored this story and literally binge read it in one day. I love a grumpy hero! Ian was grumpy with a heart of gold and emotional walls made of stone! This book had so many tender moments that made those walls slowly crumble! I loved the forced proximity and the slow build to this romance! Aimee was delightfully innocent and kind hearted which made her easy to love! I was living for the broken rules! This story was perfection and a great addition to this fun series that I truly have enjoyed!

The Rules of Matrimony by Anneka R. Walker is a sweet historical romance that blends redemption, personal growth, and sweet chemistry. Ian, once scarred by his father’s infidelity, has sworn off marriage, dedicating himself to reforming criminal law. His chance encounter with the bold Amie Tyler leads to a forced engagement, setting the stage for a mutually beneficial but complicated marriage. As they navigate their charade, their growing affection for each other feels genuine, rooted in kindness and respect. Amie’s quiet strength and Ian’s gradual opening up make their slow-burning romance both heartwarming and satisfying.
This book is perfect for fans of redemption stories! It was a cute read!

4.5* This unlikely couple had a journey to warm up to each other, although they each had reasons for their hasty marriage in the beginning. I enjoyed how there was a little historical context with a cause they felt strongly about. The reveals toward the end of the book also helped some things come full circle, which made for a satisfying ending. I enjoyed this story!

In THE RULES OF MATRIMONY by ANNEKE R WALKER we see Lord Ian Reynolds, the last remaining bachelor in the Rebels, getting married to Miss Amie Tyler, much to everyone’s surprise, except perhaps in the case of his matchmaking mama!
Ian’s reasons for marrying the beautiful Miss Tyler are rather strange. Ian, being a philanthropist, marries Amie to get her out of a desperate situation, but also to avoid marrying the young woman his father has chosen for him. In order to give Amie what he thinks she wants and to avoid a marriage like his parents, grandparents and great grandparents, in which there is a history of infidelity, he has strict rules for their marriage of convenience…….
This is an easy and enjoyable read in which the author gives us a taste of London in the 1800’s, both socially and politically, and a cast of delightful characters.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Shadow Mountain Publishing. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

A touching book of building relationships old and new
Sometimes the problems in old relationships effect the new relationships we are building. That is where Ian found himself. Seeing the problems in his parents’ marriage and hearing about his grandparents, has made him determined to never marry. Now his father is pushing him to marry a woman he does not care for. He needs an escape. When he goes to investigate the rumor that he is engaged to an unknown to him woman, Amie Tyler, it becomes more muddled. Arriving at her home he discovers Amie needing rescue from a horrible situation and jumps in immediately to rescue her, landing himself in an unintended engagement. Soon Ian and Amie realize a marriage of convenience can solve both of their problems. As they spend time together their relationship grows but shadows of the past threaten to tear everything apart. Will the shadows of the past ruin the promise of the future? Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the copy. This is my review and all thoughts are my own.

I love a good marriage of convenience story but struggled with The Rules of Matrimony. The author admirably introduces social issues of the day, and I liked the heroine’s nickname for her convenience husband (Lord Grumpy). There is a cute rescued dog. This book is very readable and seems well researched, but almost nothing about the plot was believable for me.
The meet cute strains believability; in fact, many of the plot points strained believability. The obstacles to the happily ever after struggle to keep the pair apart. At about the halfway point I wondered how this book could possibly be only half over. Hero Ian is so stiff-necked and heroine Amie is so cringey and willing to do almost anything to keep herself and mama from the poorhouse. (But also she is beautiful – very beautiful.) This is one of those books where I just wanted the couple to TALK TO EACH OTHER.
As is often the case with romance books in a series, the appearances of couples from the previous books were a bit jarring. The author clearly expects me to know and love these characters, but they were just characters under too bright a spotlight for me, since I haven’t read books 1-3.
The hero’s father is determined to annul his son’s marriage and get him to marry the father’s own choice, and this insistence also went beyond the bounds of believability. (And a plot twist about the father’s infidelity was another twist too far for this reader.) There is a scene in which the heroine’s mother discovers information by reading her diary and OMG no.
I’m not sure whether I’ll try another book by the author. I read an advance reader copy of The Rules of Matrimony from Netgalley.

What a great finish to our Matchmaking Mamas and the Rebels. Or is it? I rather hope not!
This is Ian:s story, or Mother Hen, as he is called. He has sworn off marriage, has watched his parents marriage and refuses to follow in his father's footsteps. He helps those in need, working hard to change laws, but carries a huge weight on himself.
Amie is in a bad place, and she has been since her father's death. She needs out, and Ian's mother has just the plan. But is it the plan she really wants?
The characters are good, the storyline good. It was good to watch their growth and see what would come next. We all carry scars from the past, but how we grow past them is the most important thing.

I really enjoyed Ian's story. His love interest Amie was a surprise and a delight. It sounds like the end of the series, but I need more of those scheming Matchmaking Mamas!

##RulesOfMatrimony #NetGalley
I've read each of the books in the Match Making Mamma's series, and each one keeps getting better and better. I can't choose a favorite.
Ian is part of a group of friends who call themselves the Rebels. Ian's father has told him he has found Ian a bride, but Ian refuses to marry, especially the young woman of his father's choosing.
Amie and her mother have been moving from house to house, not having a place to live, and she is waiting for the current relative to put them out on the street. When Amie's mother announces that Amie is engaged to Lord Reynolds, a name Amie believes came off a headstone in the graveyard, not knowing that there is a young Lord Reynolds who is very much alive.
When Amie meets Ian. Ian comes up with a plan of a marriage of convenience that will give them both what they want.
This book was such a fun read.
