I did enjoy both main characters. They were two you could root for individually and as a couple. Both had managing parents that could drive one crazy! I liked the friendship group of the Hero. This is in a series but I did okay not reading in order. I think this book is good for readers who enjoy a sweet, marriage of convenience Regency stories with low stress. I appreciate I can dive into an escape read without the worry of it being a "bodice ripper".

All the stars for this fabulous book! The Rules of Matrimony brings all the swoony romance, charm, & witty banter in this grand finale to The Matchmaking Mamas series. Each book in this series is a favorite & Ian’s story is the icing on the cake!

I loved getting to know Ian, Lord Grumpy, who despite his austere manner has a deep passion for making a difference. When he meets Miss Amie Tyler in a graveyard, his life is never the same. She completely captures him with those soulful brown eyes. When Ian, who’s vowed never to marry, finds himself suddenly engaged to her, he determines to come up with some rules. This must be a marriage of convenience with no outward affection unless forced to prove their marriage is real. What he doesn’t count on is Amie & his attraction to her.

Amie is the sunshine to his grumpy. She’s eager to help & learn, & longs for a place of her own. Since her father’s untimely death, she & her mother have been passed from relative to relative. With a creepy cousin determined to marry her, she readily agrees to Ian’s proposal. But, what happens when she finds herself falling in love with her husband. Will she be able to live a lonely existence without him when he leaves?

I loved this story! From the mint leaves, to hunting squirrels, to being forced to share a room, warm milk, & thunder storms, this book had me both laughing out loud & sighing with delight. The chemistry between Ian & Amie is off the charts! I loved every interaction especially when Ian’s parents come to visit & they’re forced to show their marriage is real.

Ian has some deep seated issues with his father, & Amie’s determined to help them find reconciliation. Things aren’t exactly what they seem & I loved Ian seeing his father with a new understanding. The epilogue was absolutely amazing & I can’t wait to go back & enjoy each of the Rebels stories all over again. I’m really going to miss them.

Highest of recommendations for this fabulous Regency romance & all the books in this favorite series! I received an advanced copy from the publisher without expectation of a review. All opinions are completely my own & provided voluntarily.

In the author’s note, she states “Real romance is about two characters supporting and lifting each other through hard times and the good.” This comment helps me understand the path the story took.
Ian was thoroughly opposed to marriage for reasons that may or may not have made sense.
Amie wanted the sense of belonging in a family that she had been missing since her father died when she was 13.
This story shows clearly that our experiences in life can greatly influence us - how we perceive the world and how we act.
There is a large dose of politics and law in the story as Ian strives to change criminal law.
This love story was a challenging one but the end notes hit the right spot.
I think those that enjoy historical romance will enjoy Rules of Matrimony.
Thanks to Netgalley and Shadow Mountain for the opportunity to read the book.

It was fun to dive back into the world of the "Matchmaking Mamas" series by Anneka Walker in The Rules of Matrimony. This clean historical romance was a marriage of convenience story between Ian and Amie, who both have their own personal hangups and concerns. Amie wants stability for herself and her mother, while Ian wants to avoid his father's pressure to marry for political clout. Ian is passionate about law reforms, and the book shares about the state of the laws of the era in a way that brings to life the challenges and the need for reform.
Amie gets her stability, and Ian gets a marriage he chose, but neither one find themselves to be quite as content with the results as they expected. Can they find a way to change the rules of their marriage of convenience, to something more reals?

This is the fourth in the Matchmaking Mamas series and I have read the previous three. I’ve enjoyed them all and this may be my favorite. This clean Regency Romance is set in 1823 and the series focussed on four men who have been long time friends. It is finally Lord Ian Reynold’s turn. He has sworn to never marry as he is disappointed that his father was not faithful. He wants to focus on politics and improving the lives of the poor. He hears rumors that he is engaged which leads him to meet Miss Amie Tyler. I don’t want to spoil all the details of how this occurs. But to put off his father’s choice of a wife he decides to enter into a marriage of convenience with Amie. She has her own reasons for agreeing.

Of course he is grumpy and she is kind to one and all. A few cute tropes going on in the story. His friends from the previous books make brief appearances but aren’t part of the main story, so this can be read as a stand alone. Very enjoyable.

“I normally don’t break my own rules.”

Every time I read another book of Walker’s, it becomes my new favorite. Her characters leap off the page. This is a treasured series and I’ve truly loved each book I’ve read. And this one has some of my most loved tropes: marriage of convenience and forced proximity.

Ian and Amie! Their meet-cute was so funny. From Ian’s “drunkard” behavior, to Amie shoving “grass” in his mouth, I was laughing so hard. Along with the funny there are tender and sweet moments. But Ian’s rules are set in place for the two, they quickly learn how hard they are to keep.
Here’s some of my favorite moments:
Dual POV
The wedding kiss
Warm milk
The storm
Tiny
Hunting squirrels
Hiding from her behind a tree
Amie’s mother
Ian’s bill
Kindness
Revelations
The invitation

This is only the tip of the iceberg. I stopped counting times I laughed, swooned, and cheered for these characters. It was wonderful to see the Rebels together, with their additions to the group. This may be the end of this series but I eagerly await Walker’s next offering. I will be first in line to read it.

I received a paperback ARC from the publisher and a NetGalley approval. All views are my own.

This is a charming, marriage of convenience, Regency romance. I was intrigued by the initial cute meet and meddling mothers. Amie is grieving her father’s passing, but also worried that her mother is pushing her into a marriage that she does not want. Ian has no respect for his father, and the fact that he is determined that Ian will marry a respectable woman of good peerage, does not help their relationship. Ian does not want to marry at all, after watching the example his father and grandfather have set before him. But when strange circumstances arise, he can see that a marriage of convenience might be a benefit for both himself and this young woman in question.
The story holds your interest and keeps you hoping for a love match. The characters are delightful. The banter between them is witty and sweet. There is also a darling little rescue dog that tugs at your heart strings. This is the fourth book of the series and can be read as a standalone. There are some overlapping characters that appear, but don’t deter from the main storyline. I highly recommend reading the other books in the series, they are all enjoyable. It is a clean, wholesome romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A great story from start to finish in this Regency marriage convenience! I thoroughly enjoyed the unique circumstances under which these two main characters met for the first time and the way that their marriage of convenience was brought about was unique and quite humorous. Amie and Ian’s story was creative, entertaining and an enjoyable slow burn romance that had me rooting for these characters to find their own HEA.

The sweet friend group, meddling mommas and tension between these two MCs was enjoyable and added lots of entertainment to the story.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Shadow Mountain and Just Read Tours for an advanced copy of this story. All opinions are my own.

“There. It was done. From this point forward, she would obey his rules of matrimony.”

The Matchmaking Mamas is one of my most favorite Regency romance series ever. From the very first intriguing and unique meet cute between Lord Grumpy (aka Ian) and Amie to the very last page, I was hooked and fascinated by what in the world could possibly happen next–especially as Amie is so unpredictable. This story is full of humor, heart, and happiness, with tinges of challenges and angst.

Ian is determined to stay true to his cause and not give in to feelings of love or family, yet…who can resist the charming and irresistible Amie? They enter a mutually beneficial arrangement of marriage that is more than either of them bargained for and they quickly discover the rules they set for themselves are easy to smudge. I was addicted to the romantic friction, every conversation, each situation, and all the fizzy build up of swoon that resulted in these two interacting. So many of my favorite tropes were present: grumpy sunshine, one bed, forced proximity, and more.

Anneka Walker does such a beautiful job of creating and telling this story. I may have highlighted tons of passages and they now live rent-free in my head.

All the heart-eyes and love for this installment of the series.

I just finished a wonderful book that I couldn't wait to share! It's a charming story about a marriage of convenience, and it really takes you on an amazing journey of growth with the characters. The way it highlights the power of kindness and how it affects everyone around us is so beautifully done. It's such a delightful historical romance, full of themes like redemption, personal development, and some enchanting chemistry between the main characters.

I absolutely loved both of them and was so excited to see the return of the “Rebels” as well! It truly wraps up the series in the best way possible. If you enjoy charming, clean historical romances, you definitely won't want to miss *The Rules of Matrimony*. The way the characters complement each other is just perfect, and the story touches on family struggles and finding reconciliation. I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a read!
I received a complimentary copy of this book and read it with pleasure. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review. Thank you, Shadow Mountain Publishing and NetGalley.

THE RULES OF MATRIMONY proves rules are meant to be broken in the best way with love and loyalty.

I couldn't imagine how this book was going to work out with all the obstacles for Ian. Seriously, he was traumatized!

The characters are complex and interesting. The time period swept me away. I highly recommend this book for romance readers. It's one you could read again.

Happy reading!

This is the 4th and final book in the Matchmaking Mama's series of kisses only Regency Era romances by Anneka Walker. It is a standalone story and could be read by itself. But I would recommend reading the others as well. This is a fabulous series and there are some characters that play a role in this story that are introduced in previous books. Of all of the books in the series, this one may be the one that could stand on its own the easiest though.

In this story we have Ian who has always been the most reluctant of the Rebel gang to marry. We learn more about why he is so determined in his decision in this book. Yet, circumstances arise that put that resolution to the test. Enter Amie and her dysfunctional family situation

I really enjoyed how this story played out. Seeing Ian come to terms with life long beliefs was satisfying. Watching his care and protection of Amie was beautiful I'm sad to see this series end. I loved this group of people, including the mamas!

I would like to express sincere thanks to Shadow Mountain Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advanced digital copy of the book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I just love a good book! This whole series is so well written, fun, and enjoyable to read. I loved Ian's convictions and grumpiness. He has a tender heart and is very caring. Amie may be facing hard times but she chooses to be strong and hopeful. There are no swears or alcohol and level 1 kisses only. Dual POV. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

'There. It was done. From this point forward, she would obey his rules of matrimony.'

I have loved, repeat loved with intense emphasis, every Matchmaking Mamas book. These anti marriage but falling deeply in love books are incredibly adorable. And Ian and Amie's story is no different. Amie is the sweetest character, a lovely and soft woman in spite of her difficult life while Ian has a tender heart, hidden behind a grumpy facade. Finding each other and watching them fall in love is a great way to spend your time.

If you like meddling moms, parent relationships, opposites attract, marriage contracts, and marriages of convenience, read this! And the rest of the series because all of these love stores deserve a place on your shelf and your heart.

A great conclusion to the match making mamas series. I was looking forward to Ian’s story and was not disappointed. Through some scheming from some mama’s Ian and Amie are forced into a marriage. Ian suggests a contract between the two of them to keep his heart from becoming involved in this marriage. The contract while initially agreed upon by both parties becomes quite the barrier and might even land them in some trouble.
I highly recommend this book and the whole series. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion!

This sweet story did not disappoint, especially since my absolute favorite trope is Marriage of Convenience! Right from the start, Ian is adamantly against marriage, so when he suddenly agrees to one for convenience, I knew I was in for something special.

If anyone could melt Ian’s icy stance on love, it’s Aimee. She absolutely shines in this book... her kind heart, witty banter, and endless patience with Ian and his long list of marriage "rules" were simply priceless. And that first kiss? All the lingering glances building up to it? Pure magic.

Ian just wants a no strings marriage so he can choose his own future bride, to keep his inheritance only. Aimee needs a safe place and a chance to claim her independence before being forced into a match she doesn’t want. A marriage of convenience seems like the perfect solution. Throw in some ground rules to keep things "strictly business"… but of course, the heart has other plans. Watching their friendship grow, their banter spark, and the romantic tension build was an absolute delight.

Now, I definitely need to go back and read the earlier books I missed!

I rated this story a 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5!

I received a complimentary copy, and this review reflects my honest thoughts.

This latest novel in the Proper Romance line is set in England in 1823 and follows the story of Ian and Amie who find themselves willingly entering a marriage of convenience for different reasons. Since Ian is determined to make this a marriage in name only, he devises a set of rules to follow. As opposition arises, they must decide if they continue their independent plans or if they can aim for something better.

This is a decent marriage of convenience story. The characters have clear motivations. I didn’t like the implication that sin is hereditary in the hero’s motivation to never marry because his father and grandfather were both adulterers. I don’t think that did any favors to help the reader like this character. Other than that, I think the characters were fine. They are certainly layered characters with plenty of human foibles and things they need to learn. I like that both the hero and heroine are determined to do their part to help make society better for all people. It was nice to watch them discover that they can do that best together.

The plot is well structured. Having read a lot of these types of stories, it was interesting to surmise what the author would do to force proximity and add conflict. I thought her choices for these elements were good as they help the reader get to know the characters and understand them better. I also enjoyed the historic elements with mentions of Robert Peel and the abolishment of the “bloody code” that were added to the story. Robert Peel’s reforms of 1823 are an important part of British history.

I loved this book! This one is definitely my favorite of Annica Walkers The match making mama’s series.

Ian is the leader of the Rebels, a group of friends that are totally against marriage. He is the last in the group to fall prey to their mother’s matchmaking.

In order to avoid being forced into a marriage to someone he doesn’t like he sets up a marriage of convenience to hopefully avoid any emotional ties. The problem is he falls in love with his wife!

I really enjoyed both main characters in this story. Ian pretends to be grumpy and uncaring but he really is kind and generous at heart. Amie is a sweet lady who loves to serve and help others. They are a perfect match! There is a lot of chemistry between them and a lot of fun banter.

If you enjoy regency books this one is a must!

Firstly, I would like to thank the author, Aneeka Walker, and Net Galley for entrusting me with an advanced reader's copy of The Rules of Matrimony.

After some research before applying for an arc, I discovered that this novel is the fourth book in a series. However, each story in the is a stand-alone so you can read each one independently.

This slow-burn romance was charming and beautifully written; and that is something that really captures my attention especially when reading a romance novel. This story reminded me so much of the early 2000s romance movies that I grew up watching and still love today. With that being said, I am excited to read the other stories in this series.
