“There. It was done. From this point forward, she would obey his rules of matrimony.”
The Matchmaking Mamas is one of my most favorite Regency romance series ever. From the very first intriguing and unique meet cute between Lord Grumpy (aka Ian) and Amie to the very last page, I was hooked and fascinated by what in the world could possibly happen next–especially as Amie is so unpredictable. This story is full of humor, heart, and happiness, with tinges of challenges and angst.
Ian is determined to stay true to his cause and not give in to feelings of love or family, yet…who can resist the charming and irresistible Amie? They enter a mutually beneficial arrangement of marriage that is more than either of them bargained for and they quickly discover the rules they set for themselves are easy to smudge. I was addicted to the romantic friction, every conversation, each situation, and all the fizzy build up of swoon that resulted in these two interacting. So many of my favorite tropes were present: grumpy sunshine, one bed, forced proximity, and more.
Anneka Walker does such a beautiful job of creating and telling this story. I may have highlighted tons of passages and they now live rent-free in my head.
All the heart-eyes and love for this installment of the series.
Content: mild romance; talk of infidelity

I just finished a wonderful book that I couldn't wait to share! It's a charming story about a marriage of convenience, and it really takes you on an amazing journey of growth with the characters. The way it highlights the power of kindness and how it affects everyone around us is so beautifully done. It's such a delightful historical romance, full of themes like redemption, personal development, and some enchanting chemistry between the main characters.
I absolutely loved both of them and was so excited to see the return of the “Rebels” as well! It truly wraps up the series in the best way possible. If you enjoy charming, clean historical romances, you definitely won't want to miss *The Rules of Matrimony*. The way the characters complement each other is just perfect, and the story touches on family struggles and finding reconciliation. I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a read!
I received a complimentary copy of this book and read it with pleasure. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review. Thank you, Shadow Mountain Publishing and NetGalley.

THE RULES OF MATRIMONY proves rules are meant to be broken in the best way with love and loyalty.
I couldn't imagine how this book was going to work out with all the obstacles for Ian. Seriously, he was traumatized!
The characters are complex and interesting. The time period swept me away. I highly recommend this book for romance readers. It's one you could read again.
Happy reading!

This is the 4th and final book in the Matchmaking Mama's series of kisses only Regency Era romances by Anneka Walker. It is a standalone story and could be read by itself. But I would recommend reading the others as well. This is a fabulous series and there are some characters that play a role in this story that are introduced in previous books. Of all of the books in the series, this one may be the one that could stand on its own the easiest though.
In this story we have Ian who has always been the most reluctant of the Rebel gang to marry. We learn more about why he is so determined in his decision in this book. Yet, circumstances arise that put that resolution to the test. Enter Amie and her dysfunctional family situation
I really enjoyed how this story played out. Seeing Ian come to terms with life long beliefs was satisfying. Watching his care and protection of Amie was beautiful I'm sad to see this series end. I loved this group of people, including the mamas!
I would like to express sincere thanks to Shadow Mountain Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advanced digital copy of the book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I just love a good book! This whole series is so well written, fun, and enjoyable to read. I loved Ian's convictions and grumpiness. He has a tender heart and is very caring. Amie may be facing hard times but she chooses to be strong and hopeful. There are no swears or alcohol and level 1 kisses only. Dual POV. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

'There. It was done. From this point forward, she would obey his rules of matrimony.'
I have loved, repeat loved with intense emphasis, every Matchmaking Mamas book. These anti marriage but falling deeply in love books are incredibly adorable. And Ian and Amie's story is no different. Amie is the sweetest character, a lovely and soft woman in spite of her difficult life while Ian has a tender heart, hidden behind a grumpy facade. Finding each other and watching them fall in love is a great way to spend your time.
If you like meddling moms, parent relationships, opposites attract, marriage contracts, and marriages of convenience, read this! And the rest of the series because all of these love stores deserve a place on your shelf and your heart.

A great conclusion to the match making mamas series. I was looking forward to Ian’s story and was not disappointed. Through some scheming from some mama’s Ian and Amie are forced into a marriage. Ian suggests a contract between the two of them to keep his heart from becoming involved in this marriage. The contract while initially agreed upon by both parties becomes quite the barrier and might even land them in some trouble.
I highly recommend this book and the whole series. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion!

This sweet story did not disappoint, especially since my absolute favorite trope is Marriage of Convenience! Right from the start, Ian is adamantly against marriage, so when he suddenly agrees to one for convenience, I knew I was in for something special.
If anyone could melt Ian’s icy stance on love, it’s Aimee. She absolutely shines in this book... her kind heart, witty banter, and endless patience with Ian and his long list of marriage "rules" were simply priceless. And that first kiss? All the lingering glances building up to it? Pure magic.
Ian just wants a no strings marriage so he can choose his own future bride, to keep his inheritance only. Aimee needs a safe place and a chance to claim her independence before being forced into a match she doesn’t want. A marriage of convenience seems like the perfect solution. Throw in some ground rules to keep things "strictly business"… but of course, the heart has other plans. Watching their friendship grow, their banter spark, and the romantic tension build was an absolute delight.
Now, I definitely need to go back and read the earlier books I missed!
I rated this story a 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5!
I received a complimentary copy, and this review reflects my honest thoughts.

This latest novel in the Proper Romance line is set in England in 1823 and follows the story of Ian and Amie who find themselves willingly entering a marriage of convenience for different reasons. Since Ian is determined to make this a marriage in name only, he devises a set of rules to follow. As opposition arises, they must decide if they continue their independent plans or if they can aim for something better.
This is a decent marriage of convenience story. The characters have clear motivations. I didn’t like the implication that sin is hereditary in the hero’s motivation to never marry because his father and grandfather were both adulterers. I don’t think that did any favors to help the reader like this character. Other than that, I think the characters were fine. They are certainly layered characters with plenty of human foibles and things they need to learn. I like that both the hero and heroine are determined to do their part to help make society better for all people. It was nice to watch them discover that they can do that best together.
The plot is well structured. Having read a lot of these types of stories, it was interesting to surmise what the author would do to force proximity and add conflict. I thought her choices for these elements were good as they help the reader get to know the characters and understand them better. I also enjoyed the historic elements with mentions of Robert Peel and the abolishment of the “bloody code” that were added to the story. Robert Peel’s reforms of 1823 are an important part of British history.

I loved this book! This one is definitely my favorite of Annica Walkers The match making mama’s series.
Ian is the leader of the Rebels, a group of friends that are totally against marriage. He is the last in the group to fall prey to their mother’s matchmaking.
In order to avoid being forced into a marriage to someone he doesn’t like he sets up a marriage of convenience to hopefully avoid any emotional ties. The problem is he falls in love with his wife!
I really enjoyed both main characters in this story. Ian pretends to be grumpy and uncaring but he really is kind and generous at heart. Amie is a sweet lady who loves to serve and help others. They are a perfect match! There is a lot of chemistry between them and a lot of fun banter.
If you enjoy regency books this one is a must!

Firstly, I would like to thank the author, Aneeka Walker, and Net Galley for entrusting me with an advanced reader's copy of The Rules of Matrimony.
After some research before applying for an arc, I discovered that this novel is the fourth book in a series. However, each story in the is a stand-alone so you can read each one independently.
This slow-burn romance was charming and beautifully written; and that is something that really captures my attention especially when reading a romance novel. This story reminded me so much of the early 2000s romance movies that I grew up watching and still love today. With that being said, I am excited to read the other stories in this series.

I enjoyed reading this book.
I loved that both Ian and Amie had an individual goal to make life better for others. And they were so much better as a team to accomplish things. I loved his tenderness in helping her through life's storms even when he didn't fully understand them.
Ian & Amie have a difficult time in their marriage for various reasons but the one most difficult to deal with is that they have quickly grown to love each other but must pretend otherwise. (Marriage of convenience) And part of the time, they love each other while pretending that they don't, while pretending that they do. It is complicated. At first I was annoyed that they didn't just talk it out but what made this book different for me was that talking it out couldn't resolve the problem. There was real baggage that had to be cleared up in order to keep their marriage from drowning. And the baggage wasn't from their marital relationship but from long before they ever knew each other. Ian had to fix his own problems before he could truly love his wife. So a simple conversation wasn't enough to fix everything. But the conversation did eventually show the problem for what it was. So it did help in the end.
I liked the characters and secondary characters as well although they weren't always very lovable. Except for the cousin. Didn't learn to like him.
No sex or language
A little violence

I loved this book so much! I fell in love with the main characters right away and was totally invested in their story. I think I read this in maybe two days, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I loved this series. This book was the perfect ending. Ian (A.K.A Mother Hen to the Rebels) has vowed never to wed, yet somehow he finds himself in that very predicament. Amie is everything good, kind and generous. She has been taught her whole life that love is spelled S-E-R-V-I-C-E and she is masterful at it. She draws people to her through her goodness and service. Ian is grumpy yet has a heart of gold. He wants to change the horrendous laws that are unjust to the truly needy. He loves his friends and Mother dearly but his relationship with his Father is terrible.
Amie is just what he needs but he doesn't know it.
This is such a fun book. I love the growth of each of the characters. The romance is beautiful and I love the banter.

3.5 stars. I love a marriage of convenience story! This was just a bit of a stretch for me to get on board with. I will say, even though I struggled with the premise for their marriage, I love where it ended up!
I think my overall enjoyment of the story would have been higher if I’d read the previous books in the series rather than just jumping in here. There was a lot of character crossover and it was pretty much lost on me. Serves me right for jumping in on a book four 🤦🏼♀️ I might go back and read the previous books at some point.
Thank you to Shadow Mountain for the chance to read an advance copy.

"The Rules of Matrimony" by Anneka Walker is the fourth book in the addicting “Matchmaking Mamas” series. It can easily be read as a standalone, but there are recurring characters that readers of the series will enjoy seeing in each book. The whole series is simply fabulous and "The Rules of Matrimony" is the perfect ending to the series. It was everything I wanted and more! I was so looking forward to Ian’s story and this did not disappoint. From the hilarious and adorable meet-cute in a graveyard to the perfect ending, Ian and Amie’s story will melt your heart like it did mine. I have loved Ian and his gruff exterior (with the biggest heart) and was so excited for him to get his happily ever after. Amie is perfect for Ian. I love that Ian is determined to use his life to help others and change laws. Ian and Amie enter a marriage of convenience and create “rules” that they then proceed to break, also breaking down the walls each has put around their hearts. Will they find love in their marriage? Their romance made me smile with the nickname “Lord Grumpy” that Amie gives Ian. I appreciated seeing Amie make Ian smile. Tiny the dog was adorable and the way Ian would comfort Amie when she was scared was precious. The chemistry and the longing between the two were so well done and sparks flew off the pages! The characters learn that even though they cannot choose their scars, they will never stop trying to rise above their circumstances. There are beautiful themes of family and forgiveness. At times laugh-out-loud funny and at other times poignant and tender, "The Rules of Matrimony" by Anneka Walker has quickly become a top read of the year!
Content: I give this a PG rating. Some examples of the content: someone was unfaithful in the past and has mistresses; mention of madness and someone being drunk; mention of brothels: mention of laudanum.
TW: brief mention of madness; mention of a man trying to take advantage of a woman in the past; anxiety.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

A review for The Rules of Matrimony by Anneka Walker. This is a review for netgalley in return for my honest opinion, and all opinions are my own!
This story made me wonder how the arranged marriages, or marriages of convenience, in generation past worked with two people thrown together who hardly knew one another, and had to spend the rest of their lives together. This story gave me a glimpse of what that was like, even though and I hope many ended up like this beautiful story, but I won't ruin it with spoilers! Thru this story, I saw love sprout and grow in ways I didn't think possible, reconciliation happen that I didn't see coming, and one of the most beautiful descriptions of marriage I have ever heard, but you'll have to read the book to find out how I saw those things! This book was beautifully written, engaging from the first page, and just a great story! I rate it 5 stars, and highly recommend it!!!

Ian. Lord Reynolds, was completely against marriage. The blame is on his father, whose infidelities have caused a lot of pain to his mother. So, his aim in life is to reform laws and help the disadvantages with the help of his Rebel friends. But from one moment to another, he becomes bethroted to an absolute stranger, a Miss Amie Tyler, an infuriating woman who met in an unplanned encounter in the church yard. The rumours of his engagement are spread faster than lightning and against Ian´s efforts to break it, he seems unable to leave Amie by her own, not when her awful cousin´s advances toward her are totally unwanted. Therefore, Ian and Amie agreed in a marriage of convenicence, who also will help Ian out of a political marriage imposed by his father.
Amie and her mother are living for a while on their relatives´ charity, so not having the social rank into a good marriage she is determined to be a spinter. Little did she know how her resolve would change. Her mother had better plans for Amie, fabricating the crazy idea that she is affianced to the very Lord Reynolds. But in order to scape his cousin´s marriage offer she accepts Ian´s proposal for a marriage only in name and with the promise of living separate lives.
What started as a charade, grows into a real affection. But Ian’s political ambitions are in conflict with his feelings for Amie and her attemps to helps Ian are also a chasm menace. She just wants to be loved by the man she secretly yearns for. In the end a glorious kiss would unravel the conflict inside Ian, and the more time they spent together the more makes difficult for them to not be in a real marrriage. Both must decide whether a future together is worth or if their primary goals are what they have to follow.
I was so looking fordward to read this book, the last in the series. I have not been disappointed at all, but enjoyed it as much or more than the previous ones. Ian was a favorite from the first book and Amie is just the perfect partner for him. I have also like the rest of the rebels showing in the story. Anneka´s style of writing is delightful, funny and of course swoony. Is a pity this series ends, but I am eager to read what come next from her.

I loved this book. I enjoy romance novels so much more when there is some sort of substance beyond the relationship, and this book had it! I loved the ties to real historic events. I also thought the character development was fantastic. Just enough to keep you reading but not too much so that you could predict the ending. If you love regency, this is a must read.

I enjoyed this cute marriage-of-convenience story for the most part. I especially liked the banter between them in the beginning and the tension between them before their marriage. I did start to skim through the middle of the book. Something about the writing made me feel a little disconnected from the characters. Something about the romance was lacking. All things considered, I liked The Rules of Matrimony. Just didn't love it as much as I wanted to.
