A picture book based on a song shares the importance of being unique and you. A short read for those needing a little encouragement. For ages 3-6

I absolutely love this book. So inspiring. It uses music 🎶 and a celebration of diversity and uniqueness to share the message of self-love 💛.
So wonderfully written and illustrated it will be a great way to help share this
message with your little ones. It also features an
audio link to the amazing song by Mauli Junior Bonner “Brown Skin Child, You’re Beautiful”.
I love the message that this story shares. The importance that every child knows they are
beautiful inside and out. Their uniqueness is what makes them so amazing and so beautiful. Your family will love this story. It is perfect for sharing. Enjoy with your little ones.

What a wonderful story of loving yourself and not letting others bring you down because you’re different. I personally think we are all the same, we are human and loving people. My family does not allow bullying, prejudice or putting anyone down for any reason. This book says what our family feels through song. The illustrations are adorable and so colorful. We can only change this kind of thinking one person at a time and may this book start the ball rolling.
PS I was a Caucasian girl red hair and freckles and grew up in a ethnic neighborhood of all nationalities and religion and it was the best experience if my life.

Sweet story reminding us beauty comes from within and skin color does not matter. It begins with a child upset at being asked why she is dark. Parents turn it into a lesson and song about how all kids are different and divine. The illustrations are colorful. The words are not rhyming but go along with a song and video. Easy to recommend for grades K-3.

The message of this book is powerful. We are all beautiful. The illustrations are gorgeous and catch the eye. This is a wonderful book to help children understand that while we are all different, we are all beautiful.

Absolutely love this book! My daughter is mixed and this book shows that everyone is beautiful regardless of their skin color. We will definitely be reading this at least once a week!

This is a book about beautiful brown skin with a song to go along with the words.
The illustrations don't quite fit with the words of this book.

This book is about how all skin colors are beautiful. A little girl is getting bullied for how dark she is and this book kind of explains what happens but also how everybody is different, and everyone is beautiful. It’s based on a Grammy winning song, which must be a Grammy winning children’s songs because there are refrains of the song in the book. Overall, I like the book, and I wish they had an included more of the song because while they do work together, one seems at a place when you add the illustrations plus the message. I like this book there’s just something off about it.

I absolutely loved this book! Thankful to the publishers who sent the physical book to have in hand and enjoy. But also a chance to see the kindle version and experience it a second time. We need more books like this... that quiet the bullies and the outside influences and build up a child's view of themselves. This story helps them focus on the beauty of how God made them. And helps them see just beauty and strength and confidence over who they are are what they look like. The words children hear over and over they absorb. And this story is one worth repeating over and over to them!

ou're Beautiful offers a powerful and inspiring message that all children need to hear and have reinforced — that they are beautiful just as they are, regardless of their skin tone or features. The illustrations are warm and engaging, and the core message, especially around celebrating brown skin, is so important and affirming.

However, as much as I appreciated the heart behind this book, the narrative felt somewhat disjointed. The story begins by following a little girl and her family, but as other characters are briefly introduced, it disrupts the flow and makes the storyline confusing. It feels like an attempt to broaden the message for all children, but in doing so, it loses the focus on brown skin and the unique beauty that deserves to be centered.

While I absolutely believe in inclusivity and the importance of uplifting all children, this book seemed to force that broader message in a way that diluted its original impact. Rather than naturally weaving in inclusivity, it felt like an obligatory addition — almost as if to avoid focusing "too much" on brown skin, which is disheartening given how rare and needed those focused messages are.

There are many wonderful books that genuinely and seamlessly affirm all children, but You're Beautiful would have been stronger if it had fully embraced its original focus. Still, the book's intent is beautiful, and it opens the door for important conversations with children about self-love and acceptance.

What a beautiful book - and I mean this by both the story and the illustrations. I also love that it comes with a song. I think this would be a great book to integrate even to libraries/book collections of those who may not be of color to show the diversity and how lovely people are in all shades.

You’re Beautiful is such a beautiful story about the difference between us. Being different doesn’t make us less we are beautiful as we are. It is a good way to bring these conversations to the table with your little people who sometimes feel different or not as worthy. So much an important message.

Sweet story of the beauty of us all no matter our skin color. I loved the colorful, bright and beautiful illustrations. They drew me in and combined with the words and message, had me smiling.

I loved the sweet and compassionate nature of the parents and them teaching their daughter that she is beautiful and perfect just the way she is.

I can't wait to listen to the song that the parents sing for her, I wasn't able to with the review copy that I had but can't wait to enjoy it fully when the book is published.

I received a copy from the publisher, Shadow Mountain Publishing, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

This was such a cute book with beautiful messages for children. We had a great discussion in my 2nd-grade class after reading the book. Anytime I can share a positive and uplifting message and book I feel so happy.

A very important children’s book about differences making us more beautiful. Whether it’s brown skin, almond shaped eyes, or red hair, people still matter and are an important part of the family and community. The illustrations are bright and colorful. The sing-song chorus is catchy. This is a fun book for early readers.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Beautiful illustrations indicating the diversity of appearances of people. When a child feels slighted, seen wrongly, a simple rhyme or two can help reshape their inner voices. It's a good counter for children who've faced discrimination, bullying, and hostility based on physical attributes.
