Another homerun for writer Meredith Schorr with "Roommating." The story delivers some of her best characters yet, with a twenty-something librarian-to-be, an aging retiree roommate and her sweet but a bit lost grandson. Fun support characters peppered throughout to help support the story. Roommating screams rom-com, but the story is a little more complicated yet still has the final pay-off we all expect. Highly recommend.

Meredith Schorr’s Roommating is a breezy, fun romp that puts a fresh spin on classic romance with a quirky multi-generational twist. Sabrina, a grad student who’s always busy with her library page job, suddenly finds her world turned upside down when her elderly roommate Marcia invites her estranged grandson Adam to crash in their cramped Manhattan apartment. What starts as a practical move to help mend some family ties quickly spirals into a series of hilarious and steamy midnight mishaps, complete with a particularly unforgettable bathroom encounter that sets the stage for a fast-paced, lighthearted love story.
Even though the book’s quick pace and cool library vibes keep things entertaining, some parts feel a little too rushed. The conflicts are wrapped up so fast they sometimes feel a bit surface-level, and the instant spark between Sabrina and Adam might leave you wanting a bit more build-up. Plus, the dialogue can come off as overly stream-of-consciousness and the pop culture nods might hit a bit too hard at times. Still, Roommating manages to charm its way into being an ode to grandmothers, book lovers, librarians, and romantics alike—making it a fun, quirky escape into modern urban living.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC. Rommating by Meredith Schorr is a fun and charming romantic comedy that explores the ups and downs of modern relationships. The story follows a character navigating love, friendship, and personal growth in a relatable and lighthearted way. Schorr’s writing is witty and engaging, with well-developed characters that readers can easily connect with. The romantic chemistry and humorous moments make this book an enjoyable and heartwarming read. Overall, Rommating is a delightful pick for fans of feel-good romance with a mix of humor and heart.

I really enjoyed this book; the tension, the roommates, the miscommunication but gets cleared up, and Marcia. The writing was enjoyable and I liked the fact that there were modern references (like Taylor Swift, Patti Smith, and other book references).
The only part of this book that I didn't particularly enjoy was the whole competition between the two love interests on who should be the actual roommate for Marcia. I think it had to do the timing for me; the whole competition didn't start until the 60% mark. Nor did it feel like something that the two main characters would do, it felt very out of character for me.
However, I really liked the fact that there was miscommunication, but the roommates were responsible and talked it out.
Overall, this was a really enjoyable book!
Thank you NetGalley, Forever (Grand Central Publishing), and Meredith Schorr for letting me read this book early in exchanged for a honest review.

Roommating by Meredith Schorr is going to be released on June 10th 2025. It's a contemporary romance and it was my first by this author.
Sabrina is too busy with grad school and work to think about dating—until her roommate Marcia’s estranged (and gorgeous) grandson, Adam, moves in. As their chemistry heats up, a health scare forces them into a battle to prove who should stay in the apartment. But winning the space might mean losing their chance at love.
I enjoyed this book, but unfortunately, the excessive pop culture references pulled me out of the story.

This book was soft, warm and cozy. It was a very sweet read I never wanted to end. I loved everything about this book. Was absolutely fantastic.

I have been a huge fan of Meredith’s since I read As Seen on TV! I was so excited for this one and it did not disappoint. I love the NYC vibes, the main characters love of reading and becoming a librarian! The roommate situation between Sabrina, Marcia and Adam was perfection! This was just such a fun story! I want to move into the apartment too!!
Sabrina has been living with Marcia who she found through an app that places older people with younger ones to help them out. Everything is going so well, Sabrina and Marcia get along great. When Marcia’s grandson Adam wants to come and get to know his estranged grandmother, Sabrina is all for it and complete understands. When the roommates start to notice more tension and steam they aren’t sure what to do. And when it’s time for someone to move out…who’s it going to be?!
If you are looking for a great rom com read this is it! Make sure to check it out when it releases on June 10! Thank you so much for the e-arc @readforeverpub

This was a cute rom-com story! I liked the main characters and the storyline was easy to follow along.

Roommating is my new favorite book by Meredith Schorr! Grandmas, dogs, libraries, lots of books, New York City, romance—yes, please! This rom-com is full of cuteness and fun. It’s a page-turner to add to your TBR list before it releases in June.

Roomating by Meredith Schorr is aboslute fun and cozy romance!
It's sweet, soft, full of slow burn romance that will have you begging them to finally kiss. It's such a sweet nod to libraries, our elders, grandmas, romance, and Adam and Sabrina's falling for each other. After Sabrina matches with an older roommate and then her grandson comes in and needs a place to live and then ensues the battle for the place and romance. I loved the way they got to know each other and in their forced proximity fall for each other and its tender, sweet and hopeful.

Roommating shines as Meredith Schorr’s latest. An ode to librarians, book lovers & bookstores alike. We follow MC Sabrina through her journey in finding herself, family and found family. Chock full of love and humor with a septuagenarian roommate (but don’t tell her that!), silly puppy antics and a swoony unexpected couch-hopper - I was hooked from the get-go! This book is a fresh take on cross-generational friendship and love.

I love Meredith Schorr’s writing and this is my favorite of her books. Sabrina is an MLIS grad student who finds herself in an unusual living situation when she moves in with a feisty septuagenarian. When her roommate’s twenty-something grandson crashes on their couch while he’s between jobs, he and Sabrina develop a deep relationship. This book has fabulous writing, a tight plot, and lovable characters; it’s really all you can ask for in a rom-com.

Roommating by Meredith Schorr is the definition of a cozy, feel good read. It’s soft, sweet, and full of charm—the kind of book that wraps you in a warm hug. While it’s marketed as a rom com, it leans more into women’s fiction with its focus on personal growth, friendships, and family dynamics. That said, I still adored it!
Sabrina and Adam’s dynamic is built on a foundation of genuine friendship, playful chemistry, and just the right amount of slow burn tension. Adam is an easy to love guy—kind, funny, and completely devoted to his grandmother, Marcia. Sabrina is relatable and easy to root for, and their journey from accidental roommates to something more unfolds naturally, making it all the more satisfying.
The real standout here, though, is Marcia. She adds so much heart to the story, and her relationship with both Adam and Sabrina gives the book an emotional depth that makes it more than just a romance. The humor is light and engaging, and while the competition for the apartment brings in some fun chaos, it never takes away from the warmth of the story.
If you're looking for a low angst, feel good read with a strong emphasis on connection and personal growth (plus a swoony, bookish love interest), Roommating is a perfect pick!
Thank you to NetGalley, Meredith Schorr, and Forever for the eARC of this book.

This book was so unique and so incredible! Marcia, a septuagenarian, and Sabrina, a young 20-something are roommates so that Sabrina can help Marcia out with household tasks and in exchange gets cheap rent and a great grandmother-figure/friend. It isn’t until Marcia’s estranged grandson, Adam, moves in that this dynamic between Marcia and Sabrina is threatened. Meredith Schorr takes us on a journey with these three characters- I truly believe all of them grow as a result of the situation and the cards life deals at them. I loved the way all of the characters were so darn supportive. It was such a bright and uplifting book to read. There was of course still one villain, but even that felt like an important life lesson and we don’t see that character much. I loved it!
I received my copy from NetGalley as a “Read Now” book and all opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This book is an absolute delight! The sizzling chemistry between Sabrina and Adam is perfectly balanced with heartwarming moments and laugh-out-loud humor. Their accidental roommate situation creates the perfect storm for romance, with tension that builds in the best way--especially during their hilarious late-night encounters. Adam's charm, kindness, and love for Marcia make him impossible to resist. The stakes are high, and the emotional depth adds to the story's impact. With witty banter, lovable characters, and a perfect mix of heat and heart, this rom- com is a must-read. I couldn't put it down!

Tender, endearing and so soft. I loved this story and how it had so many layers to it. I will definitely read more of meredith's books

Hear me out… I think this would’ve been better without the romance.
I actually really enjoyed parts of this and I thought the friendships and familial relationships were well done, but the love interest just didn’t work for me at all.
The “competition” led to him being weirdly mean to the main character, which didn’t make sense to me given the genre. This book came so close to being a DNF for me right around this part — he felt like a walking red flag and it was hard to root for the characters or their relationship. It seemed like all they had in common was Marcia and their lust for each other. Altogether pretty disappointing.
I also found the sheer number of references to specific books, internet trends, and brands to be distracting, and I know it’ll age the book within a few years. Some people really love this though, so I can’t fault the author for it; it just wasn’t for me.

4.5🌟
This was actually so cute.
I actually like that the romance kind of took a backseat. It gave Adam and Sabrina time to actually get to know each other. Since the goal is for him and his grandma to rebuild their relationship. It's very obvious the two are attracted to each other, but they try to keep it platonic since the living situation is so unique. There's also so many parallels between their situations; they end up helping each other out because of past and current situations.

Sabrina is a twenty-something librarian in NYC, working at a branch library, trying to finish her master’s in library science, and pay off student loans. Rent in New York is uber-expensive and when she finds an app matching older people with spare rooms to younger people who can also assist them (like dog-walking and grocery shopping) she scores a geriatric bingo with seventy-two year old Marcia. After a year, they’re more than roommates, they’re friends. But suddenly Marcia’s grandson Adam has reached out. He’s the son of Marcia’s estranged son Jeffrey and Adam has suddenly found himself unemployed. Marcia wants to know Adam better, so she invites Adam to stay on the couch. Even though Sabrina initially finds Adam attractive, soon “three’s a crowd” as she worries that she’ll no longer be welcome once her lease is up. Once Marcia is advised that maybe she should shed one of her roommates … living there turns into an awkward competition.
There’s a lot of angst and uncertainty for the two twenty-somethings. Sabrina and Adam are both in financial and employment distress which rockets up the emotional drama and housing worries. Both have parental issues and feel guilty about their grandmothers. There’s still a lot of cute banter and the book is also a homage to libraries, bookstores, and reading books (lots of contemporary references). Plus we get Rocket, the necessary adorable dog.
I’ve been following Meredith Schorr since her adult debut “As Seen on TV” and then the double goldendoodle book “Someone Just Like You.” She reminds me of Katherine Center, Emily Henry, and Abby Jimenez all authors of great romances with some serious parts. “Roommating” seems a bit sadder in parts than the previous two (rest assured, a HFN is in reach), but the writing is still engaging and worthy of a beach read. 4.5 stars!
Literary Pet Peeve Checklist:
Green Eyes (only 2% of the real world, yet it seems like 90% of all fictional females): Not quite, but Lane has equally rare hazel eyes.
Horticultural Faux Pas (plants out of season or growing zones, like daffodils in autumn or bougainvillea in Alaska): NO Books set in Manhattan always seem to devoid of any mentions of landscaping beyond Central Park, but at least Sabrina dutifully waters Marcia’s non-specific houseplants.
