One kiss from her would kill him. But that will never stop him from chasing her.
After being captured by the Urabi at the end of the Alacalah, Sylvia has to come to terms with who she really is: Essiya, the Malkia of Jasad. But first, she needs to earn the Urabi's trust and learn to control her magic. Meanwhile, Arin the Nizhal Heir and Commander rushes to find Sylvia and the Urabi. As both heirs learn the true history of their families they struggle not to unravel. War is on the horizon. Sylvia is the only chance of saving her people, but her magic drive her mad or kill her first?
Sylvia's magic is so strong that touching her would kill Arin, they just try to kill each other instead. Constantly. The Jasad Crown is the ULTIMATE enemies to lovers sloooooooow burn. The tension between these two is palpable in ever scene (there is one closed door spicy scene). Usually you know that all your favorite characters are going to make it out alive and the stakes aren't actually high, but I had no idea who was actually going to make it to the end of the story, including Sylvia. The conclusion was extremely satisfying. Often stories will build to this incredible moment or battle that is done in two pages. Not here. I will also admit that the first book's worldbuilding and character developement wasn't as strong as I hoped but good god was that not the case with The Jasad Crown. No details or vital history was left untold.
Don't want to read Throne of Glass because the author is horrible but still want an outcast heir with strong magic and an enemies to lovers moment? Go for this duology instead.

4.5 stars
This was an emotional roller coaster of politics, magic, plot twists, and a sloooowww burn enemies to lovers storyline (more like enemies AND lovers simultaneously).
I will admit that for the first half of the book I didn’t totally know what was going on. There was so much happening and all the characters were in different places and I had a hard time remembering what had happened in book 1. However, around the halfway point things started to get CRAZY. I couldn’t put this book down. There was so much action and suspense and also pining. I was swooning over all of Essiya and Arin’s interactions.
The end of this book absolutely wrecked me but the epilogue put me (mostly) back together.
Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit for the ARC!

Yessss this book is everything… EVERYTHING I could’ve asked for in the sequel to the impeccable piece of art that was The Jasad Heir. 5 stars. Take them all!
Theories we thought we knew are being questioned. Shocking truths become uncovered. There’s so much action at every turn! The stakes are at an all-time high for our beloved characters as they each set out on missions where their survival is looking quite dire. I love how we get extra POVs from Sefa and Marek and it’s always a delight to be back in the heads of Sylvia and Arin. I loved Sylvia’s POV, she’s so snarky and badass. Her dry humor is unmatched even in the most tense situations. And Arin, oh Arin. The brooding, ever precise and calculating heir who only comes apart for Sylvia. I was SWOONING. While the intrigue about the plot and watching schemes unfold kept the pace moving and was enjoyable to read about, of course my favorite parts of this book was whenever we got to see Sylvia and Arin on page with each other. The tension was immaculate and I love their growth together👌🏽. I was highlighting almost every other paragraph at points because they are everything (plus them facing off against each other with weapons in hand is just foreplay at this point). Their love for each other was so palpable and demonstrated constantly through their actions which I adored reading about.
The characters we’re introduced to and those we have been well acquainted with are so complex and have different motivations and actions that make sense for them - whether you agree with their actions or not. I loved that we got an expansion of the magic system and the complicated history as well. Sara did such an incredible job concluding this incredibly complex story. I’m hoping for a mini novella or spin-off - I’ll take anything just so I can be back in this world! I highly recommend this duology for lovers of enemies to lovers, unique magic systems, warring factions, rebellion, Egyptian-inspired fantasy, shocking plot twists, and high-stakes!
Thank you so much Netgalley and Orbit Books for an eARC of this book!

5 stars -- What a feat of intricate, enthralling, and emotionally devastating storytelling that Sara Hashem has created. I’m in awe of this book and it’s going to permanently live rent-free in my mind.
When I read The Jasad Heir, I was entranced. I found a complex, tightly-plotted story that was brimming with magic and featuring nuanced characters. Set in an Egyptian inspired fantasy filled with folklore, political machinations, and betrayals, I was hooked.
The Jasad Crown has all of this and MORE. In my opinion, it is THE Book of the Year™️ . I genuinely don’t know how I’ll read a better book filled with enemies to lovers excellence that has an abundance of meaningful YEARNING. Sara Hashem heard all of us fantasy lovers wanting to “bring back yearning” and she DELIVERED. The romance in this book is a subplot, but it was scrumptious. This is the example of yearning in fantasy that readers have been yearning for themselves.
We follow Sylvia in the aftermath of book 1, with all of our favorite characters separated across the continent. The plot is propulsive, the characters are all so distinct with their own motivations, and I knew once the characters were reunited, it would be a sprint towards the end. AND THAT ENDING?! The epilogue broke me apart but the last sentence? It struck the perfect tone for the conclusion of The Scorched Throne duology. Did I sob uncontrollably? Sure did. But this is going to be a series I re-read for years. I can’t say enough good things about Sara’s writing in this duology. It IS that well-done.
Since Sara is a professional at writing quotable lines that resonate like they were written for me, here’s just three of my favorite quotes:
🗡️ His voice was firm. “Since it seems I have been less than clear: the advantage is yours. You unravel me utterly.”
👑 “Arin could watch her fight until weeds grew around his boots, and he had the sense he would never tire.”
🐀 “Ha! Rat, was I? I hoped I scurried around the attic of his nightmares!”
I can’t wait for my preordered signed & personalize copy so I can highlight and tab every amazing moment. This book is officially out today 7/15 and you need to go run to get this book! If you’ve been thinking of reading The Jasad Heir or The Jasad Crown, this is your sign!

An Egyptian inspired romantasy. Book 2 of the scorched throne duology. In this epic conclusion we get more world building, higher stakes, multi povs, and political intrigue.
The romance became more involved between Sylvia and Arin with more banter, angst, tension and a true enemies to lovers slow burn every romantasy fan will fall for.
I did feel like the ending was a little rushed, but overall I enjoyed how the story ended.

I will always love this world!! Just as great as book 2. Everything from the world building to the character development is perfect

📙 ARC Review: The Jasad Crown by Sara Hashem
What an ending. I will always go to bat for Duologies. They're supreme.
I managed to get in a quick reread of the Jasad Heir before starting this thicc sequel. While the Jasad Heir is mostly told through Sylvia with a few chapters from Arin, the Jasad Crown had multiple POVs: Sylvia, Arin, Sefa and Marek. I think this made the book way easier to digest outside of Sylvia's head. Though I will say Sylvia is the best unreliable narrator I've read in a long time.
I really loved the Egyptian inspired culture of Essam, the magic system and beasts throughout. What really had a chokehold on me throughout the story was Arin's political maneuvering. He really makes up for Sylvia's chaos throughout this book. The focus and plot twists around his relationship with his dad and his guards was SO good in this installment. Arin still brings that enemy to lovers energy.
I also really liked the comedic relief Marek and Sefa's chapters brought to the story. I felt like they were sort of dead weight in the first book, but they had a lot more at stake here.
Overall a great Duology. The writing is beautiful in this, heartbreaking in parts. It's a long book, so be prepared for the epic fantasy, and though this had a bit more romance than the first, I struggle to really call this a romantasy, and I'm not mad at it. I do wish we had a bitttt more from the epilogue, but still a 5⭐ read.
Hoping to read more from Sara as her writing just gets better and better.
Thank you to Netgalley and Orbit books for the ARC.
Release date: July 15

I had extremely high expectations for this book, especially after re-reading The Jasad Heir and getting reacclimated to the world and characters. and boy oh boy did Sara Hashem deliver. I loved being in Sylvia/Essyia's head for TJH because she is so delightfully unhinged and utterly sardonically hilarious, but it was truly a treat to get more POVs in this book. Arin's POVs had me losing my mind (complimentary) each and every opportunity presented.
This is easily one of the best lost heir reclaiming their throne stories I've ever read. The political upheaval we get to witness is truly astounding. I will admit, there is a lot of information we learn throughout the course of this book, but it only enhances the story and depth of our understanding of the world our characters are inhabiting in the best way. Finally, the love these characters express for one another is unmatched and will rip your heart out if your chest, stomp on it, and then lovingly cradle the pulp that remains. The epilogue absolutely eviscerated me and I am utterly bereft. These characters will live on in my heart for the foreseeable future.
Lastly, enjoy some snippets to get the essence of our favorite lost heir to entice you even more to pick this book up:
I was not a leader of kingdoms. I was barely a leader of me.
I have a legacy of disappointing people, you see.
Malika of Jasad or not, she still had the temperament of a deranged goose.
I have been many things in this life, but wise wasn't usually one of them.
My dear, I am positively terrified of that girl. the most volatile power is the kind that doesn't recognize itself, and Essiya of Jasad could crouch over her own corpse without knowing it's face. Without realizing she is her own killer.

I don’t know if I have ever mentally yelled JUST KISS ALREADY! as many times as I did with this book, even though I knew they couldn’t for *reasons*
My heart is still figuring out if it’s broken or healed thanks to these Enemies (though are they still? Yes? No? Kinda?) to Lovers.
Such a rich world filled with magical creatures, and beautiful characters of both the magical and non-magical variety.
I had been in a fantasy slump and this was the perfect book to reach down and pull me out of it.
LOVEDLOVEDLOVED IT!!!!

WOWOWOWOWOWOW. So - I absolutely adore the first book in the series, so was obviously very excited to get my hands on this one. As someone who has read a lot in this genre, I am always a little bit worried about the second book woes, where the second book after an AMAZING 5 star first book is worse and disappointing in comparison, whether its a duology or trilogy or whatever else. Let me tell you that that did NOT happen here.
This book is as good, if not better, than the first one!! We get more political intrigue, more angst, more yearning, more world building. All of our questions get answered. And this one is just as heart wrenching and emotionally devastating as the first book (I am a glutton for punishment). This was an incredible ending to a fantastic series and this is easily one of my top 3 series EVER read now. Its that good. Dont miss out on it!
P.S. I need more Arin and Essiya content in my future.

I loved the Jasad Heir so was so excited to read this. I really liked it and it was a satisfying conclusion. I loved the mythology and the romance and will pick up anything this author writes in the future.

"Jasad Crown" is the second book in "The Scorched Throne" duology by Sara Hashem.
I really loved this book! It made me go through a variety of emotions, from laughing out loud to even crying, while reading it. After reaching the half-way mark, I couldn't stop reading. The anticipation and tension was so high, I ended up staying awake the whole night and reading the rest of the book.
The premise of the story is overall very interesting and the characters are rather complex. One of the things that I really enjoyed about these books was that the main character Sylvia wasn’t perfect as one would usually expect the main character to be. We got to see her wanting to choose herself instead of being the usual self-sacrificing royal. Her decision to choose herself and her own survival makes sense because she was just a child when she made it out of the Blood Summit and was basically tortured for five years by a crazed commander, for her identity as the Jasad Heir and the magic she possessed. It is very understandable that she wants to choose a different life and that she doesn’t feel as connected to Jasad as everyone expects her to be. After ending up claiming her real identity as Essiya of Jasad in the end of the first book, we get to see her try to connect to that identity in Jasad Crown. She is being put into a leading position and is being seen as the grand hope and weapon to finally build Jasad back up and she has difficulty being that heir everyone expects her to be. Throughout the book she has many moments where she considers running away or giving up and I really appreciated all these moments a lot. It made it more realistic and witnessing her struggling to reconnect to being Essiya when she would rather choose to be Sylvia as well as having to connect to her magic, that she didn’t have access to for most of her life, gave the character a lot of depth.
The same goes for Arin. In the first book we got to see Sylvia facing reality and the fact that the Jasad that was painted for her as a child wasn’t as perfect in reality. She had to find out about the corruption and cruel actions of her Grandparents and the suffering of their people. Now, in the second book, it is time for the cold and composed Nizahl Heir to face reality and find out the truth about his father’s secret actions. We get to see the painfully strict, calculated and composed shell of the Nizahl Heir get undone one by one the more facts he uncovered out about Nizahl’s and his own past. The undoing of his ironclad composure was, though heartbreaking to witness, done very well in my opinion.
The writing was good and the author has a great ability to create and write moments that will easily let you feel a lot of emotions. My main critique about the book has mostly to do with certain plot choices that felt either unnecessary (i.e. Arin leaving Essiya to go back to Nizahl without really telling her his plan, even though he could have simply told her instead of creating this unnecessary drama between them in chapter 59) or too vague and incomplete to me. However I think that Sara Hashem has great potential and I am certain that she will get even better in time, especially given that this is only her first published duology. I am very excited to read her future works! :)
My rating: 4,5⭐️
Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit Books for giving me access to this ARC! :)

I absolutely adored the first book in this duo. It was such an amazing enemies to lovers fantasy book. This one ended up falling just a touch flat. It all felt a little overly complicated and a bit anti-climactic. I will say that the ending was amazing. The last 10-15% of the book had me hooked. Some of the revelations I had pegged early on, and a few caught me by surprise! I still adored Essiya and Arin in this book. And loved any part that the two of them were together in.
-enemies to lovers
-hidden identities
-banter and tension
-secrets revealed
-1 spice

If you need me, I’ll be the person buried under a pile of tissues sodden with my tears.
I loved The Jasad Heir when I read it last year and I was so excited when Orbit approved my request for a review copy on NetGalley! So naturally I put it off until a week before it released. I’m not gonna lie, the first third of the book did not keep me engaged. All my faves were separated and that meant the easy banter that kept TJH at a snappy pace was missing. And there was so much plot and information being thrown at me on every other page that I was worried this book was going to let me down. I loved getting the additional POVs (Arin’s first POV had everyone I was buddy reading with losing their collective minds (complimentary)), but it did lend itself to my struggles early on. And then I read the last 60% in two days and had an amazing time. So if you’re struggling in the beginning, I promise things pick up!
It takes a lot for me to simp for a man, but Arin? Yes please.

My love for The Jasad Heir only doubled with The Jasad Crown those final few chapters crushed me.
For me what I loved the most about this duology we’re the characters!
They are the driving force of the story on top of the political intrigue. I loved following along with their perspectives, and seeing how this would play out. Sarah Hashem did an amazing job with the world building, but also the individuality of each characters both in first book and also with the new set of characters in this one.
Another aspect I loved was the romance between Sylvia and Aron this was truly an enemies to lovers storyline so I wasn’t sure how that connection with form, between but it was done so well.
“we build our reality on the foundation our world sets for us. You entered a world where magic is coercive, and Jasadis are inherently evil. I entered one where turning a shoe into a dove made my mother laugh. Have you considered, in that infinite mind of yours, that the truly brilliant people are the ones who understand the reality is we build were already built for us?”
With the ending in particular, I think it rounded out well, but I would’ve loved a little bit more closure, personally, especially with that epilogue, but maybe it leaves room for a novella or a short story 👀
Thanks to NetGalley & Orbit for providing me with an ARC of this novel

Drop what you are reading and pick up this duology now. This series has me in a chokehold and just deserves all the love it's getting, but it needs even more attention. A unique magic system with main characters that grow and develop both as individuals but also in their relationship with one another??? Sign me up!~
If you enjoyed book one, Hashem builds on the very strong world building that already exists. I feel as if this universe expands so much in this book, with more lore, more POVs, more characters, more heartache, and more moments of joy that remind you why all the pain and suffering is worth it. Due to this expansion, I do feel like the pacing of this book was a bit better than the first, one of the very few gripes I had with book one.
Our main characters also have yearning and a slow burn done in the best way possible and that is...being subtle with it (specifically from Arin's POV). The banter is so far and few between that by the time it comes again you are STARVING for it, and it's just enough to keep you fed until next time. Although the characters are all adults and the book deals with adult themes, it wasn't spice. If that's what you're looking for, this isn't for you.
This was a very satisfying end to a duology that I would recommend to anyone.
Thank you NetGalley and Orbit US for the eARC. All opinions are my own.

Thank you Sara Hashem, Orbit Books and NetGalley for the ARC!
This book was so good!! It was a great conclusion to the duology and the epilogue was everything! The challenges that both Sylvia and Arin go through in this book tear your heart apart and the moments they have together put it back together again. This book was full of adventure and twists and turns that I didn't see coming.
I will recommend this book to all my fantasy loving friends!

This is an excellent follow-up to The Jasad Heir. This is a sprawling story that opened up the world and pushed Arin and Sylvia to grow as individuals and in their relationship. The plot kept moving and I was enthralled by every twist and turn. This is definitely one of my favorite fantasy duologies! I am so excited to see what Sara Hashem comes out with next. The conclusion was both heartbreaking and deeply moving; tears were shed.
Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit Books for providing an eARC in return for my honest thoughts.

“The Jasad Crown” is a triumphant conclusion that delivers on every promise made in “The Jasad Heir.” Hashem has created a duology that fantasy romance readers will return to again and again. The combination of a truly badass heroine, swoon-worthy romance, and a world that feels both magical and grounded makes this series a standout in the genre.
Perfect for: Readers who love enemies-to-lovers with genuine animosity, found family dynamics, reluctant heroes, and fantasy worlds that feel lived-in and complex.
Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit US for the eARC. All opinions are my own
