Iris is recovering from the loss of her husband, she is trying to keep it together for her daughter, but they both are struggling with the loss and the unknown of what even really happened and why.

In trying to move on, Iris meets and starts dating Hugh. He wants her to join him in renovating a mansion belonging to his family, so she takes the leap and embraces this new possible future.

It doesn't take long to start feeling uneasy, mainly because she didn't realize how little she really knew Hugh or anything about his family who they are now living with.

Eerie, spooky house feel and dark family secrets in this book. This was a quick, fast paced book with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing.

I have decided to DNF this book at 55%.

Though part of me wanted to stick it out to see what the twist ends up being and how the many, many storylines come together, I couldn't. Even though I do love a convoluted thriller that merges its way into making sense, this one had too many storylines that were, honestly, uninteresting with not a single likeable character that kept me tied to the story. The writing was very cheesy for me at times, the dialogue of the characters was just silly on multiple occasions, and with those two things together, it made it very hard for me as a reader to take this story seriously at all. Unfortunately, this one is not for me. I can see another thriller who may enjoy books similar to authors like McFadden get into this one, but I am not that person.

Thank you to Netgalley, Katie Garner, and Harlequin Audio for the opportunity to listen to this one in advance.

Thank you to the publisher for the advance copy of The Family Inside by Katie Garner. This book was a great, dark and suspensful listen, keeping me on the edge of my seat. The story came together well, and many different plot lines converged in a severe end. While I found the narrator a little of putting, overall the listening experience was enjoyable. The book was longer than expected, with great character development. At times the plot lines seemed irrelevant, but clues were left throughout, with time jumps adding to the experience. An excellent conclusion and I would recommend!

I really enjoyed this book, particularly the way it wove together dual timelines and multiple points of view. The alternating perspectives kept me engaged from the beginning, and I found myself completely absorbed in the story. I couldn’t put it down, which, for me, is always a sign of a good book. The author did an excellent job of building tension and intrigue across both timelines, making each chapter feel fresh and compelling.

I chose to listen to the audiobook, and I have to say, it was a fantastic experience. The narration really brought the story to life, adding an extra layer of depth to the already complex characters and plot. The mystery surrounding the people and places in the book was always fascinating, and I found myself eager to uncover more details as the story progressed.

However, I will admit that, for me, there might have been a few too many twists. While I appreciate a good plot twist, I did feel like some of them were a bit overdone. It’s probably just me, though—I know some readers love a complex, twisty plot. Even so, this didn’t ruin my enjoyment of the book. It was still a gripping read, and I stayed hooked right up until the end.

This was a story full of twists and turns. I found it to be a compulsive read. I just had to know what the heck was going on. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the author threw in another twist. There are a lot of characters to remember and at times I got confused and had to go back and re-listen. It was interesting how the author tied everyone together! I won’t say too much about the plot because I think the less you know the better for this one! If you enjoy family drama and domestic thrillers, then I recommend grabbing this audiobook!

I had gotten halfway through 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑭𝑨𝑴𝑰𝑳𝒀 𝑰𝑵𝑺𝑰𝑫𝑬 𝒃𝒚 𝑲𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒆 𝑮𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒓 with my @netgalley @htpbooks access when I was granted the audio through @harlequin_audio and immediately added it to my reading!

Let me tell you, this is a wild ride! Thank you @htp_hive for such fun reads!

Iris is a struggling single mom who has had her share of rough, but when Hugh offers to let her stay at his home, she feels her luck is finally turning! Ellory, her daughter who just turned 18 is much less enthused. In fact, Ellory can't take the weird family who all look at her strangely, and disappears. Iris is beside herself, but no one seems to take her concerns about Ellory seriously. And phones begin to become increasingly hard to find with the rise of tempers with family members. This is increasingly a disturbing situation, but Iris has some secrets of her own that put her in serious danger with these people, if she can ever get help!

It is easy to see the red flags in thrillers, but I was very pleased to read how these situations could have progressed in this story! I thought this was clever, twisty, and very well plotted with a fantastic twist. I had a thoroughly enjoyable time reading this in both digital and audio. The narrators, Emily Lawrence & Ashley Klanac did a great job going between perspectives and made this an even more enjoyable read!

I recommend this book for anyone looking for a really fun suspense with twisty reveals!

I have been listening to and reading Onyx Storm all week and needed a little something “lighter”. So thankful that htphive hooked us Hive members up with Harlequin audio autoapprovals! I downloaded 3 books and decided this one would be a great thriller to break up the magical world of Aretia! I listened to this in one day! It was impossible to stop and put down! I had seen some reviews that it is a little slow in parts, but I had no issues with that with the audio! It was very entertaining, gave me creepy, rich-family hiding something sinister vibes until the seriously shocking ending! One major twist after another was revealed with such perfect precision, then I thought we were on the home stretch, and something came that changed the whole dang game again! It definitely made the book for me! Anyone in the mood for a domestic thriller/mystery, this one will deliver!

This is another thriller with a compelling premise that ultimately didn’t meet my expectations. Readers new to the genre might still enjoy it, but for me, it didn’t bring anything fresh to the table.

Three years after Jack’s death, Iris and her daughter Ellory find themselves bankrupt and homeless. Enter Hugh, Iris’s new beau, who swoops in with the offer of a home in his family mansion.

Of course the family is sketchy and secretive. Of course Iris catches someone digging a grave in the backyard in the middle of the night! Things spiral when Ellory goes missing, and Iris—juggling the endless family weirdness—hires a PI.

I had mixed feelings about Iris. She’s resourceful and vocal, but her failure to run from the flashing red flags was a bit maddening. Ellory’s scenes, on the other hand, had me hooked—the curious vibe kept me flipping metaphorical pages as fast as I could (I listened to the audiobook).

Speaking of the audiobook, both narrators were excellent, and I comfortably listened at 2x speed. While the audio was solid, it didn’t offer any extras (like sound effects or Easter eggs), so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it over a physical copy.

This book requires patience—some of the strange interactions and happenings won’t make sense right away. But trust me, the twists make it all worth it. The final twist in particular is a wild ride—maybe not realistic, but undeniably fun to unpack.

While I enjoyed the ending, I couldn’t help wishing for an alternate one. Without spoiling anything, let’s just say I can see the other side of things.

The easy writing style and fast-paced action make this an entertaining read. Sure, it asks you to suspend reality, but the twists deliver. I wouldn’t recommend this to thriller newbies, but if you love bat-crap crazy families and shocking reveals, you’ll have a blast.

This was unhinged in the worst way. There were easily four plot lines that could have made four cool thrillers on their own. But for some reason, they were crammed into this one. It was confusing and cluttered, with a hysterical main character that went beyond unreliable. And her pregnant teenage daughter is missing - but it seems secondary to solving her best friend’s murder. See what I mean? Messy.

A quick thriller with a main plot and a subplot. Several unpleasant characters and a few surprises sprinkled throughout. It all ties together with at the end.
Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read this advanced copy. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

“…I look up at him and remember a lesson I’d learned long ago–people can be the scariest things on earth.”

Family secrets, lies, revenge, and justice.

OH MY GOSH…what a wild and crazy ride with so many twists and turns. I don’t want to say too much for fear of spoiling the book, but just trust me, if you love thrillers then you definitely need to read this book! My mind is blown and my heart is still pounding. I couldn’t get over the shock of one twist before another one came. And just when I thought there couldn’t possibly be another twist, then BAM here’s another one! The author did an incredible job with writing an unpredictable story, all of my predictions were so far off.

A thriller automatically gets 5 stars if it truly shocks me, makes me audibly gasp, and loudly say anything that makes my husband look at me like I’ve lost my mind, and/or if it makes me sit with my mouth open, chin on the floor, completely flabbergasted. This book did that MULTIPLE times. I will be processing the logistics of this book for a very long time. This is one of those books that I’ll be going back to reread to see all the things I missed the first time.

I read this in tandem with the audiobook. The narrators did a superb job with pacing, tone, and inflection which really helped set the mood and bring the story and characters to life. They delivered a flawless performance from start to finish.

The narrator captured the emotion, tone and personality of our main character PERFECTLY. the chapters from the other POV was clear and concise as well. The dialogue and the way the characters interact was extremely easy to follow along with even when the cast grew a little larger.

As for the story- whew! That was a wild ride. A convoluted web of lies and deceit spanning decades I loved the reveal of the motivation and wish that groups history was explored a little more. The final chapter was chefs kiss. I love a last minute plot twist that doesn’t ruin the integrity of the story.

"The Family Inside" is a bingeworthy thriller full of drama, secrets, and suspense. Told from the perspectives of Iris and her teenage daughter Ellory, this atmospheric (and kinda creepy!) story will keep you guessing. It started off a little slow, but then the twists started coming and didn't stop. I couldn't stop reading because I had to know what happened next. This book definitely kept me on my toes, and my head is still spinning. It was a little over the top at times, but it is a popcorn thriller that you will not want to put down.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Emily Lawrence and Ashley Klanac. They did a great job bringing the story and characters to life and creating tension and suspense. Definitely recommend this audiobook!

This was the first book in a long time that I picked up and could NOT put it down. I kept wanting to listen just a bit more, and then a little longer after that. The characters were at times predictable but that didn't take away from the story. I loved the family house as a setting -- give me a creepy old mansion any day. The plot twists were smart and I loved how everything came together in the end. Five stars, I absolutely recommend it!

Iris Blodgett’s life has unraveled since her husband's unsolved murder three years ago. Drowning in grief and buried in debt, she can’t pay her mortgage—and now that she’s lost her job. She has no idea how she’ll provide for her unruly teenage daughter, Ellory. Soon she was facing eviction and her new man has offered a solution--move in with him and his mother's old mansion that needed some repairs. Little did she know it was an old mansion full of secrets ---and his siblings.

I could not read this book fast enough. I knew from the description I was in for a ride but I was pleasantly surprised that it lived up to the hype. The twists kept coming and I did not see the ending coming at all. I cannot wait to read this author again. 4,5 stars.

Both narrators, Emily Lawrence and Ashley Klanac did a wonderful job bringing these characters and the story to life.
