✨🐾 4-Star Review 🐶🎉
Every Day Is a Holiday by Greg Kincaid is a sweet + wholesome read that gave me all the warm fuzzies 🥹💖

We follow 6-year-old Allie, who helps her fam run the local animal shelter 🐕🛁🐾 She's not just a helper—she’s a mini animal whisperer: bathing, training, and naming the animals that need a little extra love.

One day, someone leaves a puppy on the shelter steps 😱🐶 (rude, but ok). Allie decides to keep the pup, but naming it? That’s where the real journey starts 👀

From Valentine’s Day 💘 to Halloween 🎃 and every holiday in between 🎇, we get to see the world through Allie’s big heart and imagination. It’s adorable watching her bond with her new bestie while trying to find the perfect name. Will she pick something festive? Traditional? Totally unexpected? 🤔✨

📚 Why 4 stars? The story is super cute and cozy (perfect for snuggling up with younger kiddos), but I wish there was just a tiny bit more depth or a twist to push it into 5-star territory. Still, the illustrations are 🫶🏽 and the message about love + belonging is 💯

🎁 Perfect for:

Young animal lovers 🐾
Families talking about adoption or pet care 🐕
Anyone who believes every day deserves a little celebration 🎈

This was pretty cute, and would be a really good story for a family about to adopt a puppy. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read

The story beautifully captures themes of compassion, patience, and the joy of adopting a pet. Allie's thoughtful process in naming the puppy encourages young readers to consider the significance of their choices. The vibrant illustrations by Alessia Girasole complement the narrative, bringing the characters and their emotions to life.

Shout out to Netgalley. Every Day Is a Holiday. Loved the illustrations and the book cover. It was a cute read for me and my little one. As long as my little one can sit still during a book and interact with it a little, I give it an A+. All the cute names Allie came up with her puppy and the reasoning behind it, only to come up with something that brings it all together was perfect.

The parents of six-year-old Allie ran the animal shelter, and she always helps them and gives names to all the new animals. One day, they find a small puppy in a box by the shelter door, but Allie just can’t figure out what to name it.
My daughter is also six, and she really enjoyed this book—we read it together and had such a lovely time! The main character is a kind and sweet little girl.
It’s a touching story with beautiful and colorful illustrations that teaches children the importance of caring for animals and helping their parents. It also introduces the idea of an animal shelter and shows that animals can be adopted from there, as they’ve been left without a home and need love too.

Thank you to NetGalley and 4U2B Books & Media for this eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Such a sweet and heartwarming story! Every Day is a Holiday is a delightful children’s book that combines adorable artwork with a meaningful message. The illustrations are bright and fun—perfect for capturing a child’s attention—and the story itself highlights the joy and importance of having a pet as part of the family.

What I really loved is how the book gently introduces the idea of pet adoption or rescue. It’s both informative and thoughtful, offering great conversation starters for families who might be considering bringing a pet into their home. It covers the emotional and practical sides of adopting in a way that’s kid-friendly and easy to understand.

Overall, it’s a super cute and engaging read—one I’d definitely recommend for families, classrooms, or as a gift for young animal lovers!

Thanks NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book!

Allie loves to help her parents at their animal shelter. She herself has a big heart towards animals. Her favorite job is naming the animals that come through the shelter on their way to adoption. One day, someone leaves a young puppy on their steps. She spends the day with it, but can't come up with a good name. Eventually, they decide to keep the puppy and come up with the perfect name for it.
This was a cute story. i loved the family helping each other out. I think the last page of discussion questions were a nice way to start a conversation about getting a pet that is the right fit for you and your home. thank you netgalley and .4U2B for this book.

This was such a cute book! As an animal lover - specifically dogs, and being named Allie - I was excited to keep going with this book. I think it's a great way to show rescuing pets is important without being too "pushy" about it, as well as how hard and fun it can be to name an animal! Holiday is such a cute name and the way Allie gets to it is adorable.

Written from the perspective of an author who is an animal rescue advocate and a humane education alliance supporter, Every Day Is a Holiday tells of a small girl who spends her days looking in on the animals placed for adoption to the public of the shelter where her parents manage and oversee all the ongoings. This small girl has the opportunity to meet and greet each new potential adopter and speak with them about the gentle and loving animals (cats and dogs) that these guests happen to encounter and walk by. The girl loves her hours spent at the shelter-- she loves meeting the new potential adopters and loves befriending every single new animal who enters their program and patiently awaits their new forever homes.

One day, a tiny puppy is dropped off without a note and left on the shelter's porch steps. The puppy is found to be alone, wrapped in a blanket, and in need of a bottle of formula, protection, and a kind person to shower him with plenty of kindness and love. The girl's parents initially want to leave the puppy at the shelter, but through coaxing and prodding, the small girl persuades her parents that the only proper action to take in this case is to take such a young puppy home with them where they can properly pamper it and protect it from the noises and larger nearby animals already in the shelter.

This beautiful tribute to an ongoing rescue mission to rehome every abandoned animal testifies that the author holds a strong core principle to protecting and preserving the rights of animal rescue advocates. Children will adore reading about this small girl who spends her day walking through the shelter and encouraging everyone she meets-- whether they happen to be human, feline, or canine companions.

This is a heartwarming book about a little girl named Allie who helps out at her parent’s animal shelter. She and her family already have a dog named Christmas who comes with them to the shelter each day, but one day Allie falls in love with a puppy that she ultimately brings home. She has one problem: what to name him? Throughout the story, Allie brainstorms different names, trying to find the perfect one for her new friend. The story is full of warmth and care and I liked how, at the end, there is information about adopting shelter dogs. The illustrations were beautiful and really added to the story. Overall a really cute book.

This story was adorable! I was entertained throughout the entire book. The illustrations were my favorite. I always love this type of art style. The only thing I was not happy with was the name that the puppy ended up with. I felt like there was a lot of build up to it but it just didn’t make sense for me. I don’t think kids will mind though.

I definitely recommend this for kids! It’s a little more advanced so for any kid that wants to get better at their reading.

Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this e-ARC.

This is the story of a little girl who names dogs at the animal shelter. She is unsure of what to name her own dog, until she comes up with a great idea. Young and older children alike will enjoy this cute animal story.

This is a companion to the book A Dog Named Christmas. They are introducing a new puppy to the family and our little girl is on a hunt to find the perfect name. This book is cute. Kids will really enjoy it. The holiday in this book happens to be Fourth of July but it’s not about the Fourth of July. It’s more about everyday life. I like the illustrations they match the book pretty well and overall kids will like this.

This was a great book! It was warm, full of love and caring. This book touches places in a human, who has loved, lived with or could not live with a dog at any time in their lives. All children love puppies and kitties and Allie is a lucky lady that gets to have one in her life.
The struggle to name a little angel felt so real and when a puppy earns its name it is worth of celebration.

A sequel to "A Dog Named Christmas", this has a girl whose parents run an animal shelter that is forced to find a name for an abandoned puppy. Will the name match what is happening outside? Will it fit with his little cute form currently – well, probably not, as he'll only grow out of that. Is there a single chance it could tie in with the dog named Christmas, as there are quite a few holidays throughout the calendar? Well…

This is cuteness overload, even if you do worry for the poor kid having to do so much work at the sanctuary and then lots of chores at home. She's a cutesy, the dog is a cutesy, the whole old-fashioned sentiment is cutesy, if you like… It's not really got a re- and re-read narrative, but when it hits you with its saccharine charms it is only pleasurable, and it's certainly not a scan-once-then-discard kind of effort. There is too much work here, visually especially, for that. And it ends with a prompt to go to your local pet pound – which might be a horrid cause of unnecessary pester power for some families, or a reminder that many pet breeders are rich enough already, thank you.

If it was only going to lead to children madly demanding they rehome a pet, with no considerations for if they even can, I'd be the first to give this one star and a slap on the wrist. It's not that – it's almost not about the puppy in the end. No, I'm safe giving this a strong four stars.

How precious!!! The artwork is so sweet and I liked at the end it encourages readers to adopt a dog from the shelter and gives them questions to ask.

Who doesn't want to read a book about animals. Allie's parents run an animal shelter and Allie helps out when she isn't in school. Allie takes an adventure to come up with a name for her new puppy that was dropped off at the shelter. We enjoyed following Allie as she took this journey. Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this book. #netgalley, #everydayisaholiday, #gregkincaid, #animalshelter, #puppy, #puppynames
