Thank you to HarperCollins Children's Books and NetGalley for an ARC of this. For an optimal reading experience I would say to read "These Hollow Vows" duology first as this is the conclusion to the spin-off. I enjoyed the first duology more than this one. I struggled a little while reading this series. I honestly think because of the main characters. It’s set in the same universe, but focuses on other characters. This had a slow start in my opinion and felt as if the pacing was a little off. Once things picked up I was more engaged. I think it was a good conclusion to this duology and the time in this world, I just wanted more.

“My stars may feel cursed or my fate may feel charmed, but my reality will inevitably be a little of both.”

Lexi Ryan has delivered a stunning conclusion to one of my favorite series of the last few years! Between These Broken Hearts wraps things up spectacularly (as sad as I am that it’s over 😭), and I could not wait to get my hands on it. Thank you, HarperCollins! 😉

At this point, Lexi Ryan is one of my auto-buy authors and I will read whatever she writes and so this review might sound very biased but it is what it is. 😀

This book delivers on two very strong FMC’s both struggling with self-worth and identity both in their own similar, but different, ways. Between These Broken Hearts dives deeper into exploring the depths of anxiety and depression from where the previous book, Beneath These Cursed Stars , left off.

As much as this book has all the classic components of a ya fantasy, the main focus is on the internal battles of the FMC’s themselves. Don’t worry though, there is plenty of action and adventure, danger, a ticking clock, and an evil enemy or two to defeat.

My favorites, Felicity and Misha are BACK! Update: Misha is SASSY … I enjoyed the comic relief that was him unabashedly letting his feelings be known. I loved having Felicity’s POV and it actually took me aback how much I related to her. She is a shapeshifter who struggles with her own body image. More than that, in the previous book, she fell in love with Misha and Misha fell in love with her … while she was in Jasalyn’s body! She struggles with the insecurities of having a man she loves, falling in love with her looks and not her as a person (but little does she know …).

The line that hit me the most from Felicity’s POV:

“I’ve spent my entire life just outside every circle I longed to be a part of.”

This line feels like a Taylor Swift lyric and puts my complex feelings into words. I guess whether or not you resonate with these characters is personal, but I feel like many readers will find pieces of themselves in the subtext of this story. Lexi Ryan is a master at conveying emotions and feelings that one can easily see if they read between the lines.

And with that, this review is over and I am sad to be leaving these characters and their stories that have resonated so much with me 😥

Thank you to HarperCollins Children's Books for providing this book for review via NetGalley!

Wow! I enjoyed Beneath These Cursed Stars but this was even better! While the action is spread out a bit more in this book, I think the mental health representation is MASSIVE. Jasayln is concerningly easy to relate to in this aspect. And the love stories in this? So good! Of course the journies aren't easy, but it definitely makes it worth it. It was very interesting as well trying to piece together what was real and what was not. Now that I have finished this part of the duology, I absolutely need to go back and read These Hollow Vows. Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for the opportunity to Arc read this.

Between These Broken Hearts is a lovely conclusion to the companion series to These Hollow Vows. I loved the original duology, and I was excited to be back in the fae realm with some familiar characters. After the ending of Beneath these Cursed Stars, I was eager to dive back into this series with Felicity and Jasalyn. I really enjoyed how this story wrapped up. There is a lot going on between the two characters, whose stories are unique but interconnected as the shadow court and the Eloran court fight to prevent Mordeus' return. I enjoyed the dual POV from Felicity and Jasalyn, and their relationships with Misha and Kendrick. Their reunions were both wonderful, especially after the betrayal and hurt on both sides. The ending led to an exciting and tense confrontation, but the story wrapped up nicely overall. I enjoyed seeing some familiar faces from the first duology, as well. This is a fantastic and romantic YA fantasy series, and I enjoyed every moment.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and HarperCollins Children's Books | Storytide for the advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Such a satisfying conclusion to these characters' tales! I am going to miss all of these fae, shapeshifters, and royals. I cannot wait to see what Lexi Ryan gives us next.

Between These Broken Hearts was a satisfying finale to These Hollow Vows series. While I didn’t love books 2 and 3 (they felt a bit slow and lacked the spark of the first), book 4 definitely picked up the pace again and gave the series the strong finish it deserved!

There’s an odd time jump right at the beginning that initially threw me off, and a few plot points that felt a bit thin or underdeveloped. But honestly? I was enjoying the characters and their growth arcs so much that I didn’t mind. This installment really leaned into the personal growth of Jasalyn and Felicity, and I absolutely loved that. Their internal battles, their strength, and the way they finally came into their own took center stage and felt so earned.

The romance is still here, still swoony, but it’s not the only thing that drives the story, and that is always refreshing. Watching both Jas and Felicity come into their power and purpose was my favorite part of this final book.

Lexi Ryan’s writing continues to shine, I’ve loved watching her grow as a fantasy and romantasy writer, and I’m excited to see where she goes next!

While Jasalyn's story is good, I didn't find myself falling in love with it as much as Brie's. I found myself more interested in Felicity and Misha. They really stole the show from Jasalyn. Amelia was my favorite side character with her speaking her mind and interfering for for good.

I was excited to finally understand and put the pieces together of how the group would defeat Mordeus, but ultimately it took place exactly how I thought with Jasalyn being a phoenix. All lose ends are tied up by the end of the Felicitystory creating a nice ending.

The pacing did feel a bit off with so much happening to Jasalyn and the other in the beginning of the story and really dragging it out and then the final stand happening the last 12% of the book which happens so fast.

I received an ARC from Netgalley and HarperCollins Publishers, but all thoughts are my own.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and HarperCollins Children's Books for providing me with a digital ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. I fell in love with this world and Lexi Ryan's work through These Hollow Vows duology and was so excited that I got to continue with Jasalyn's story and arc read her duology.

I found this to be such a great ending to the series. We follow Princess Jasalyn and Kendrick (Also called Hale) as well as Felicity and Misha. Who must find a way to once again defeat Morgues who found a way through his torturing of Jasalyn to cheat death. But Mordeus is not the only evil seeking out to destroy everything as it is and take over. Erith, who taught Mordeus the blood magic to come back to death wants to take over the Wild Fae from Misha and be a king in his own right, desperate for more and more power.

We really dig through the internal mental struggles of the aftermaths of trauma. Both Jasalyn and Felicity have dealt with a lot in their short lives that have caused them both their own hard struggles to try and accept and rise above. Jasalyn, who had been severely tortured deals with self sacrifice thoughts and Felicity who can shape shift as an echo, struggles with her self worth. Besides the dark we do get exciting adventures and light moments and romance to balance the fast paced world we are working through on the brink of a war.

I will say I was a bit lost in the beginning of the book and I would suggest if its been awhile to get at least a quick summary of the previous book. We jump 8 months in time at the beginning of this book and if the last isn't fresh in your mind you will struggle a bit. The magic system and mystical creatures were such fun for the lore of this world, if you loved the first duology you will be absolutely satisfied with this conclusion! Sad to be leaving this world, but happy for how it was settled.

I enjoyed this extended duology a lot more than expected given it did follow our original group of people.

Jasalyn and Hale’s relationship was sweet , I appreciated the way they came together to create sweet moments - even with the different to live with decisions she had to make regarding her magic.

Felicity and Misha were a tad under developed for how long this book was. While I realize the time jump may have changed some of his thoughts towards her - his essential blind faith developed immediately was hard to reconcile.

Overall, the pacing was definitely inconsistent (but when it was good it was such a fun read) and the countdown esk timeline for the journey did sometimes take me out of the story.

I loved the direction this took. I thought the story wove together and wrapped up nicely, and I contined to love the dual couple focus.

I love the original duology with all my heart, but I found myself wanting more from this one. There were quotes of this book that will live with me forever. Some in fact, I want to be in my wedding vows. I do think Lexi Ryan did what she set out to do. This duology was aimed at mental health, and I felt that in every step with Jaslyn and even Felicity. I also LOVED all the different POVs. I screamed opening up to Abrielle. However, the story itself was a slow climb, and I saw everything coming long before the characters.

Oh man, Lexi Ryan has done it again. This book was absolute perfection! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and I definitely was a little stressed lol but it was so worth it!

I love Jas and Kendrick, but Misha and Felicity are for sure my absolute favorites. I’m sad that their stories are over.

I loved the first duology, but I think I love this one even better!

I've had a very rocky relationship with this series from the beginning. These Hollow Vows was mind blowing for me back when I read it when it was first released. I was obsessed. Read it twice. These Twisted Bonds was such a massive disappointment for me as it clearly should have been a trilogy and was monumentally rushed. Beneath These Cursed Stars was much better than I was expecting. Loved that Lexi Ryan was able to return to this world and maybe fix some things left open from These Twisted Bonds. It got me excited for this second book as well. Unfortunately, while this book is much cleaner than These Twisted Bonds, it's no where near as good as Hollow Vows and Cursed Stars. The plot pacing was perfectly fine, but I had no attachment to any of the characters anymore. Even my beautiful Misha who just didn't feel like the same character as the previous books. To me, there was no separation on Misha/Kendrick and Jas/Felicity as characters. They both felt exactly like the same people. Which I did not feel with Cursed Stars.

Ultimately, I will be done with anything else written in this world. I think it's run it's course and I'm looking forward to Lexi Ryan writing something completely new instead.

Overall I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed both Jasalyn & Felicity's point of views as they worked through the conflict and through their romantic relationships. I stopped reading this book several times and had to take breaks. it didn't keep me as intrigued as the other books. I found the pace of the plot a little slow at times. However, I would recommend this book for anyone who has read any of the previous 3 books.

The previous book, Beneath These Cursed Stars ended on a double cliffhanger. Jasalyn has discovered a betrayal. Kendrick isn't who she thought he was. Or at least, he's more than who she thought he was. This means she can't fully trust him, and she leaves him and his group to go off on her own after the sword of fire in hopes of killing Mordeus for good. Felicity's betrayal of Misha was discovered, and she was captured by her twin brother and trapped in an illusion of an alternate reality.

Jasalyn has finally come to a place where she realizes that she wants to live, and she wants her bargain to be broken not just because she doesn't want Mordeus to use her for his resurrection, but also because she actually wants to live her own life even if it will be different from what she always imagined it to be. Her journey is dark and full of sadness. This is not a peppy story by any means. And I like that Lexi Ryan touched on the topics that she did in the way she did.

Felicity has to come to terms with her deception and what that means. She's been fighting a prophecy that says she will succeed in killing her father, the evil King Erith of the mortal realm, but in doing so her brother in all the ways that matter, Kendrick, will die. She has no problem being the one to kill Erith, but she can't bring herself to do so at Kendrick's expense.

There are many side stories and pieces that come into play. And Lexi Ryan does a great job of weaving them all together. I will say that I wasn't surprised by any twists or turns. There really weren't any. Things were pretty straightforward, even if you didn't fully know how the day was going to be saved, and they were going to save Jasalyn and everyone in the end.

Between These Broken Hearts is two love stories in one. I do wish we had a few more glimpses of Brie and Finn, but it wasn't really their time to shine, and that's okay.

Language is present, and there is a small amount of spice. If I remember correctly, most of the action doesn't take place on the page.

Favorite quotes:
-"A magic like this is hungry. It takes and takes. It will draw from you until there's nothing left."

-Fear isn't a measure of cowardice, and pain isn't a measure of weakness. You are brave and strong and anything but broken.

-"...if I've learned anything from having a seer in the family, it's that fate is a slimy thing. People like to think of it like a fixed point, but it's always changing."

-"Everyone in this world has a fate they would personally rearrange the stars to avoid." ..."Don't think I am so different."

-"Tell me what you want and I will bend the world to give it to you."

-I thought I knew loneliness in the depths of my despair, those years before I got the ring, but that can't compare to the loneliness of knowing nothing I say or do will be remembered.

-"You are so easy to love."

-"Do you know how I feel about you?" "You hate me."... "So that's a no?"

-"I look like something that crawled out of the Underworld." ..."I had no idea that place had so much to offer."

-I know my worth now. If I am lucky enough to see a life beyond my eighteenth birthday, I won't disgrace that gift by living in the shadows. I deserve a life in the sun.

-"It's easy to want the good days. ... It's the others that make the decision so hard. The bad and the painful and the gray and the numb. You can't just imagine a happy life and decide it's worth it; you have to choose all of it."

-Every existence has pain and joy and sacrifice...

-"No. They're mine. I endured."

Between These Broken Hearts is ultimately a story about overcoming, about enduring, about choosing to live and to love. It's about loving others, but ultimately about loving yourself. I love the deeper themes and takeaways from this book. While self-harm and ceasing to exist are not something I struggle with, I know that so many do. And I hope they can all find beauty in the scars, beauty in the pain, hope in the future. Between These Broken Hearts gets 4 Stars. Have you read Between These Broken Hearts? What did you think? Let me know!

Between These Broken Hearts is the conclusion to Jas and Felicity’s story from Beneath These Cursed Stars. This duology is set in the same world, and after These Hollow Vows duology. Princess Jasalyn only has eleven days to live, and shape-shifter Felicity has vanished. Both women must figure out how to stop the evil’s in the world and the fae king Mordeus, while trying to understand the oracle’s tragic prophecy and how to stop it from coming true.
Overall, I enjoyed this book, but it took me a bit to get into. Even though I had read the first book last year, this one jumps a bit in time, and then continues. I had to go back and re-read some summaries from the first book to make sure I knew what was happening with all of the characters. I enjoy Lexi Ryan’s writing, and thought the overall story arc was good, if not a bit predictable.
I’m not sure if I didn’t realize the age gaps between the two couples, but this time around it made me cringe a bit. Jas is 17, and it is widely talked about because her 18th birthday is something the story focuses on. Hale is 4 years older, which makes it a bit weird. However, the one that I have a bigger issue with is Felicity and Misha, even though Misha is fae and hundreds of years old, he first started to fall for Felicity when he thought she was Jas, who’s 17.

I finished the book in a couple of days, so it kept me engaged and wanting to continue reading it. I thought it was a nice conclusion to the duology, and wrapped up the outstanding issues.

4.5 stars! Thank you to NetGalley, Storytide, and HarperCollins Children's Books for this advanced copy! You can pick up Between These Broken Hearts on July 22, 2025.

What an epic conclusion to this duology! I've loved Lexi Ryan's writing since These Hollow Vows, and to see this story come to such an eventful close was both heartwarming and bittersweet.

Between These Broken Hearts picks up months after the end of Beneath These Cursed Stars, with Jasalyn's life on the line, Felicity in prison, and the whole realm at stake. With the help of their boyfriend-kings, Misha and Kendrick, our two protagonists must fight the clock to keep Mordeus from returning and taking over the Unseelie Court.

One of my favorite aspects of this book, hands down, is the romance. Lexi wrote SO MUCH yearning into this book because both couples have already felt what it's like to be together -- but betrayal and circumstances keep them from committing to one another. It's the best kind of angst, and it feels earned after the events of the first book. The time skip makes it even better because everyone's had time to process the betrayals and secrets, allowing room for forgiveness in this relatively short book/series.

Speaking of, let's talk about pace. I flew through this book in HOURS, not because of the length, but because Lexi's pacing moves FAST. Every scene serves a purpose and propels the plot or characters forward, and there's a good amount of action/fight scenes intermixed with the interpersonal character connections. I do wish we'd had more time to draw out the ending, but it was still an effective and emotional third act.

Overall, I loved this book and will miss these characters so much. If you need a fast-paced but emotional fantasy read, this is def your book!

And just like that another magical duology by Lexi Ryan has concluded.

"I am anger and vengeance. I am love and acceptance. I am power and strength. I am grace and wrath. I am fearful and fearsome."

I really loved that in this spinoff we are getting two romantic plotlines and even though there is a risk in doing that, I was actually equally invested in both pairings.

Jas & Felicity.....my sweet babies, I love them both for very different reasons but each of them had some fantastic character growth and equally important parts to play within the storyline (no one likes a useless character). Even better, neither was a damsel in distress but rose up to their true potential.

I especially loved this very healthy representation of a plus size fantasy character, it touched on the problematic of being a shapeshifter and losing one's self in other people's forms yet love can make her feel wanted for who she really is.

"I swear if I didn't know better, I'd think you were trying to seduce me"
"I promise you that when I'm trying to seduce you, you'll know."

The romance....ugh I loved book one with the twists and betrayals, so now I was so on edge watching Felicity and Mischa navigate their broken hearts. Kendrick was an absolute simp but I was here for it after all the rejection that Jas has gone through in her life.

The only reason I am not giving it a full 5 stars is that the foreshadowing of how the villain was going to be defeated was a little to obvious.

Firstly thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins Children’s Books for this opportunity to create rate and review this book which is available tomorrow 7/22/25!!!

So this book delves into what I can only describe as a continuation of the stories told in the main duology but they focus more on the mental health and emotional wellbeing of Jaslyn and Felicity. While I grasp the over all concept and story line I truly believe that reading the main duology will help you grasp these complex characters and their stories a bit better.

Overall I had fun and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

A gorgeous ending to a duology! I loved the expansion of the original series and characters and getting to find a new story in it. I had a great time reading this. Its a great romantasy series and the romance between the two characters was perfect. It's a fantastic duology ad a wonderful tie in to the series. I adore the way Lexi writes and the growth that the characters go through until the end was perfection. I will definitely be recommending this series to new readers!
