i am obsessed with this book and it’s story and i can’t wait to see what else we will get from this author! although this is her debut book, i can’t wait for sure say she is going to go far in the writing world and i can’t wait to see it!This debut author is one to keep on your radar! She’s amazing! I cannot wait for part 2!

This read took a bit for me to get into but if you love a dark academia setting then it may just be for you. We follow the main characters friend group through trials to see who will be deemed the best of the best. It makes friendships, it breaks friendships and tests the limits of their world. It had lots of twists and turns and I genuinely was not expecting some of the events that took place. Would recommend, especially during spooky season!

Immortal Consequences follows six students as they navigate their way through a dangerous competition at a University set in the afterlife. I found many aspects of the setting/plot to be unique and fun. However I struggled to connect with the characters. I did enjoy the twists toward the end, and where I think Book 2 is headed.
I received an ARC from Random House Children's | Delacorte Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to the publisher for my gifted eARC. My opinions are my own.
Synopsis: What happens after you die? If you’re lucky, you end up attending immortal school helping other souls pass on. If you’re unlucky, you end up in the same situation. SIX RIVALS. ONE VICTOR. ETERNITY IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.
Read this for:
- competition
- soul harvesting
- dark academia setting
- six POVs
- found family
- queer representation
- “good” versus “evil”
My thoughts: I really got sucked into the story and was eagerly awaiting the twists and turns that I knew were going to happen but the way they happened made me anxious and I need the next book to be released as soon as possible. I loved the different POVs and was really rooting for each of the characters, even knowing something was going to go really wrong. This was definitely a vibe for those that like school settings with characters that don’t age past the point that they died.
Highly recommend for those who enjoyed The Atlas Six, Ninth House, and Ace Of Spades (there’s a mystery to be solved).

*3.5 stars*
This book is a little different than what I normally read, but I still enjoyed it! It had an interesting setting and a pretty unique take on the afterlife that set up the story to be quite engaging. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep me reading even though it was a long book. The thing that kept throwing me off though was that there were so many characters and points of view. Because of the way the trials were set up, I see why we needed to be able to split up and see what is going on in multiple places at once, but I often found myself wanting to be following a different character or plot. With all that said, after the way this ended I am invested in the arcs of all of these characters and can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!

I loved this book… I devoured it. I love how all the characters have their own little romances/relationships but still intertwined with everyone. Can’t wait for the next one.

Immortal consequences was different than any other YA fantasy I’ve read. I always love an academic setting, especially with trials. The best part is that this academy is set in purgatory, and the students are tasked with helping people cross over. The main characters start out as “unfortunate acquaintances” and as you might guess become closer through all they endure together despite competing against each other in the ultimate trial.
Overall I really enjoyed this and devoured it pretty quickly. Partly because the chapters were short and rotated through six character POVs, more so because I was invested in what would happen next. Looking forward to book 2!

I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.

One of my most anticipated reads this year. And for me, it did not disappoint! I couldn't put it down. Once I finished my ebook I ran to ensure I had pre-ordered my physical copy...and I had. Once in had arrived in person, it was even more gorgeous than online. This book was amazing and I was so happy to read it. I have read it twice already!

If Harry Potter & The Hunger Games had a dark, emotionally intense lovechild, Immortal Consequences would be it. Going in, I knew this was the start of a series—but I wasn’t fully prepared for just how hooked I’d be.
This book masterfully explores the morbid & the metaphysical, diving deep into themes of life after death without ever feeling forced or cliché. It’s eerie, thought-provoking, & full of shadowy secrets that unravel at a pace that keeps you turning the pages.
What really stood out to me was the brutal yet beautiful way the author portrayed competition. Alliances & connections aren’t just useful—they’re vital. Even in the cutthroat nature of the story's central trials, we’re reminded that humanity (& inhumanity) often shines brightest in relationships.
The dual love stories? Absolutely gripping. Both couples are fighting not only external dangers but also the inevitability of falling for each other. There's a lot of push & pull, tension, denial—it’s messy in the best way. No insta-love here, just slow-burn chaos that feels earned.
& just when I thought I’d reached some form of emotional resolution... BAM. A massive cliffhanger. No happy endings—just devastation & questions that need answering. It’s clearly designed to drag you straight into Book 2, & let’s just say: it worked. I’m already desperate for what comes next.

A good blend of magical intrigue and dark academia. Ideal if you like a supernatural twist with a slow burn romance. 4/5 but sets the stage for a sequel that will be exciting.#immortalconsequences #netgalley

This was an absolutely stunning read, and I'll state it again, but I'm not a huge fan of books with an academia setting if only because I'm literally back in the trenches of taking classes again and reading is an escape for me. However, even halfway through the book, I knew I actually adored this book. Once you got used to the rotating cast of characters and got a better sense of who each one was and their individual motivations, the story flowed very naturally and intuitively into the next chapter and the next perspective. What was my favorite was just how invested I got in EVERY character's goals and I appreciate the character developments and the natural changes and shifts that happens. It was both plot as well as character driven and I appreciate a novel that can do both fluidly and expertly. Thank you for writing the book, that was a privilege and joy to read.

By the end of this book I was so invested in the dynamics and the storyline. I think around the time of the ball is when the story really sank in for me and clicked. Now I'm ready for the sequel and to see what is next for Blackwood Academy. Dark academia is always a win.
With that said, this book did take me longer than normal for the story to 'land' or 'sink in'. I gravitated toward the book due to the concept and I'm glad I kept reading. The beginning was a bit difficult for me because I didn't feel like I had enough of a foundation to build so many POVs on and understand what was going on (I maybe should have freshly read the description before starting it to help). Once I was able to settle into the story, the world-building was great - the depth to the afterlife school concept was really neat. The character development lead to characters that were easy to love and feel for as the story develops.
Thank you NetGalley for the electronic copy of the book. All opinions are my own.

I enjoyed Immortal Consequences! I found the different POVs to a fun way to travel through the world, despite wishing there was a bit more difference between the voices of the characters. The plot was thoughtful and well done, and we love. good slow burn especially with some well written yearning. I am definitely hooked on this series and with the cliff hanger dying for book two!

It would totally stink to die and then realize you are going to be stuck at school for the rest of your afterlife unless you win a contest that happens every ten years, or lose your memory and wander the ether forever. Plus you get to go searching for lost souls in the ether that sometimes tries to kill you. Not my idea of a fun afterlife! Unless of course you decide to give up you what little humanity you have left and join a shadow group that is trying to destroy the school. It makes for an intriguing story though!
Told in six viewpoints of six students (some newbies and others old enough to have collected many secrets), during the decennial (which I had to look up) year right after a mysterious new student arrives, it is a good mix of types, and I was hooked once things started to go wrong during the competition. And how the students work together (or not) and their reasons for wanting to win. Of course what would a dark afterlife be without secrets revealed and dark schemes of groups wanting power or to destroy everything. And after the cliffhanger and shocking happenings, I can't wait to see what the students will do with the new truths and sides they have chosen!

Six rival students attending an academy in the afterlife was a premise that immediately caught my attention. This was a long book but read really quickly each chapter leaving you wanting to read more! And the cliffhanger at the end!!!! Can’t wait for book 2!

Immortal Consequences by I.V. Marie
This book was such a gothic, atmospheric ride! From the candlelit halls of Blackwood Academy to the brutal Decennial competition, the setting instantly hooked me. The concept of six students battling in purgatory for a second chance at life was so unique and eerie—I loved how the school itself almost felt like a character.
The cast of six nominees kept me invested the entire time. Wren and August’s rivals-to-lovers tension gave me everything I wanted, and Emilio completely stole my heart. I really enjoyed how each character had their own motives and secrets, though at times it felt like a few of them could’ve used more page time to feel fully fleshed out.
The pacing was strong overall, though the ending felt a little rushed compared to the deliciously slow, moody build-up. Still, I flew through the last chapters because I had to know how it ended.
If you love dark academia, morally gray characters, and a twisty, gothic atmosphere, this one should definitely be on your TBR.
🖤 Dark academia vibes
⚔️ Deadly magical competition
🔥 Rivals-to-lovers tension
👻 Purgatory setting
I can’t wait to see what Marie writes next!

A dark academia enemies to lovers is a vibe. Could use a little more working out the storyline but overall a good time.

I was called to this book the minute I heard dark academic purgatory setting with the comp to the Atlas Six and I had to pick it up. We follow six characters students as they train for the Decennial at the Blackwood academy in the afterlife. They compete in the trials to prove their worth to be released from purgatory or to graduate to join the Ascended.
The book had an interesting premise, unique magic system, and i's multi-pov with a plot forward story. The writing was very digestible and the worldbuilding was easy to follow . I will say however the characters fell a little flat for me and would have love to connect more with them.
It's still worth checking out if you love ya books with a dark academia setting and moving plot.
Thank you so much getunderlined for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Immortal Consequences by IV Marie is a YA romantasy that will leave you breathless. Do you love dark academia? What if the school was located in The Place Between?
It is the job of the students of Blackwell Academy to guide new souls to The Otherside, but every 10 years one lucky student is nominated to complete four trials - proving themselves worthy of the opportunity to either be released from purgatory to eternal rest or to graduate and join the Ascended- the magical elite.
This time the rules have changed and it will be a competition. Amongst this year’s nominees is Wren who is trying to find redemption from her mistakes during her life. August is an annoying and arrogant hottie who cannot be trusted. We also have Emilio, a sweet newcomer who misses his family desperately. Can that void be filled by his crush Oliver? Arriving in the 1800s Oliver is one of students who has been there the longest. With his memories fading away, he knows his time is running out. Could Emilio be a reason for him to fight and be spared from The Forgetting? Matika is suffering the loss of her lover Catherine, who disappeared one night and is suspected to have defected to the evil and dark Demian Order. If it weren’t for Matika, Irene would be a loner. She is a rule breaker, violent, and seeking power that the Demien possess.
Readers will absolutely adore each of these distinct characters. The world building and the magic system are exquisite and be prepared for many twists. I can’t wait for book 2 of the Souls of Blackwood Academy series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Delacorte Press for the copy.
