2.5 STARS!!
Not every book is going to resonate with the reader. That’s why there are so many genres and sub-genres within books today. There’s no way an author can satisfy every reader. And that’s okay.

I picked up this book by a new author for review. I was expecting a quirky murder mystery with some humor in the story because so many people have said this book is humorous. But the further I got into the story, the more I realized I was not getting any of that.

The author tells us a story of infatuation. But the twist is that the woman truly is psychotic. There’s no actual mystery here, but we do get several different timelines of back stories that build into the current mental state of the woman.

The author attempts to paint a picture of someone we should feel sorry for, but the reality is that this lady is weird and broken. There is no humor. There was no lightness in the story at all. In fact, I found this to be a very dark novel.

She is a stalker and a straight-up murderer, removing people from the life of the man she loves. But there are darker pieces here as well; animals, and the destruction of people’s entire world.

One thing is for certain. People enjoy what they enjoy. This story was not for me because I look for something that makes me feel good and engaged with the characters and story when I’m done reading. Some people found it humorous. I found it twisted. What am I missing??

Ultimately, that’s up to the reader to decide. Did the author do a great job writing Julie Tudor Is Not a Psychopath? Absolutely. Many found it humorous and awesome. That’s why I gave it the rating I gave. Just because it wasn’t for me doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be a book you would enjoy.

Actually, Julie probably is a psychopath - and this makes for some very uncomfortable reading! This is a dark comedy which really balances on the line between wicked humor and shocking violence. No matter how cringe some of the scenes were, there's no denying that Julie is a strong lead character who people will love to hate, or even feel sorry for (depending on the scene). The whole story is so entertaining, it's incredibly easy to read and underneath the surface level humor, there are some really serious topics being covered - difficult family relationships, obsession, favouritism, mental health and murder. I thought that the whole premise was brilliant, really well executed and so unique!

What a strange/unique book. I'm honestly not sure what I just read. Julie is a middle aged woman and this is the tale of her past & present ventures with men she has fallen for. She believes these men reciprocate her feelings and she will do whatever is necessary to remove obstacles keeping them apart. I can honestly say I have never read another book quite like this.

I tried to get through this, but I ended up abandoning it pretty early on. I had high hopes that Julie Tudor is Not a Psychopath would be a fun character, maybe a little wacky, but alas the title is pretty on the nose. Not the book for me..

Julie is an unhinged psychopath. This book had a little dark humor in it that I enjoyed. All and all a good book.

This book was so good! This is the first book I have read from this author and I loved it. The book was fast paced and sucked me right in. I liked the multiple timelines and Julie was a very interesting and unhinged character. One of my favorites themes in a thriller is obsession/ stalker, so I ate this one up.

Julie Tudor is fucking nuts and definitely a psychopath! I loved every minute inside her twisted brain! The gore surprised me a little, but it was a freakishly fun read for reading about such an unlikable stalker,!

julie tudor is DEFINITELY a psychopath.. julie babes, do you want the number to my therapist??

📖 plot & pace: this story follows Julie Tudor's unhinged life using multiple timelines (current and events from her past). Julie has had a few different love interests, but none of them have turned out... good (or healthy). this book was pretty fast paced, making it easy to get consumed by it.

👥 characters: Julie's poor love interests... boy did they deserve better! there's a few different ones in this story, but the current (Sean) is the one i feel most sorry for. Julie is definitely super unhinged HAHA and a terrible person.. the people around her felt immense pain because of her actions.

🤩 tropes: dark romance (?), stalkerish vibes, mentally unstable FMC, "am i the drama?" (yes julie you are)

the one thing i didn't like was the pets.. 😣 i just can't stomach animal cruelty, even in the small mentions this book had. i also feel julie's behavior was never explained, which is understandable being from her POV, but it would've been nice to have some insight into her character development (was she always like this? was there a traumatic event?)

otherwise, this was an enjoyable read and if you like unhinged characters with a little ✨insanity✨ & dark humor, this is definitely for you!

This book wasn’t for me. The plot moved quickly and was propulsive but I didn’t feel like the author really had anything to say. I generally dislike first person unless there is a point to being in someone’s head. In this case, I understand what the author was trying to do and show that Julie did NOT think of herself as a psychopath but there was nothing beyond that. Being in her head didn’t make me more sympathetic to Julie or really understand where she was coming from. Instead it just meant there was no mystery to what was going to happen next.

This was everything. The humor was off the charts and I found myself rooting for her the whole time. Definitely a quick read

Thank you, NetGalley, for an e-ARC of Julie Tudor Is Not a Psychopath by Jennifer Holdich.
I am a fan of books with quirky characters and went into this hoping it would be similar to Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine. Unfortunately, the writing style reminded me more of a Frieda McFadden. Julie Tudor is a psychopath, and due to her persona, the reader was unable to find endearing qualities. A disappointing read.

Man this book was WILD. Julie is such an odd and terrifying character but was easy to become invested in. She’s unhinged and unreliable but that’s what makes the story what it is. I enjoyed the multiple timelines so we could experience different parts of Julie’s life. There’s so many similarities in events of her life, and you can easily predict where the situation will go. I enjoyed her inner dialogue at times, she could be really funny. This was an easy book to binge with its dark and humorous nature.

Julie girl, please call a therapist.

Y’all know how much I love books about unhinged women, and Julie Tudor might just be the most delulu FMC yet! Think Dexter meets Eleanor Oliphant. This book was truly a wild ride from start to finish. The story is told in alternating timelines from Julie’s POV, as she tries to convince us that she is totally not a psychopath. There were so many laugh-out-loud moments and also some seriously cringeworthy ones. I never knew what was going to happen next in this unpredictable, chaotic, and fun whirlwind of story. I don’t remember ever gasping out loud so many times while reading a book. My jaw is still on the floor. What a wonderful debut from Jennifer Holdich!

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book is strangely compelling, and deeply disturbing at the same time. I thought this would be a bit of a comic romp, but that was an incorrect assumption. Julie (Jools) is most definitely a psychopath, and while I kept hoping there would be something redeeming about her - there was not! I almost stopped reading this several times because I just could not wrap my head around how awful she really was, but again something about the writing or the need to know what happens to her kept me reading. The playful cover is definitely misleading, but possibly that is a good thing since I am not sure this would sell well unless the reader is led to believe it is much lighter than it actually is. Points for creativity and creepiness.

Title: Julie Tudor is Not a Psychopath
Author: Jennifer Holdich
Publisher: Sourcebooks Landmark
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Pub Date: July 8, 2025
My Rating: 2.5 Stars! Hmmm feeling generous so rounded up
Pages: 320

Forty-nine year old Julie Tudor has a fantastic job, home, and is in love with Sean her coworker who is a wonderful guy.

However, twenty-five year old Sean is indeed in love but not with Julie.
Julie has been in a similar situation before and knows how to get rid of competition.
Hmmm. . . . ..
I requested this back in February and since I typical read by pub date and with a July 8 publishing date I was saving it for now
. It sounded like a fun read back then however now that I started it I thought I believe I made a mistake.
I tried to hang in there – true I skipped a bit. But it just wasn’t working for me.
I read Ms. Holdich’s ‘Acknowledgements’- It seemed she was somewhat apology. She said she found it was easier to write some things than it was reading them in other books.
I am not a writer but I am a reader but I believe I know what she meant!

However, I do believe I will give her another read in the future.

Want to thank NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for granting me this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for July 8, 2025.

How would you eliminate what you believe is your competition? I can’t imagine murder, but Julie Tudor does.

She is 49 and working, owns a home and is looking for the love of her life.

In walks Sean, who is 25, HOWEVER he is in a relationship. Julie does not consider this a threat, as he must be stuck in this relationship.

She is not the only threat and Julie is not above killing to get what she wants.
This novel was fun, entertaining and perfect with some comical relief.

I went into this one expecting dark, snarky humor. Instead I felt like I was watching a train wreck that triggered pity and squeamishness in equal measure... Julie Tudor has some serious problems, and there was nothing light-hearted about them. She was off-putting and reading her story made me sad for her, but in an uncomfortable way. If creating a sense of discomfort about her "relationship" was the goal, Holdich achieved it - but if the goal was a mystery/thriller with an (unrequited) relationship at its heart, it missed the mark for me... It didn't feel like satire. It felt like devolution into creepy obsession. This one wasn't for me...

Julie Tudor is Not a Psychopath is a darkly humorous, offbeat thriller that blends obsession, delusion, and murder with a touch of satire. The premise is certainly bold—Julie, a 49-year-old office worker with a fondness for spreadsheets and murder, is wildly fixated on a 25-year-old man named Sean. The unreliable narration adds intrigue, and there are moments of sharp, biting humor.

However, while the concept is intriguing, the execution sometimes falls flat. Julie’s character is meant to be disturbingly charming, but at times her voice feels more repetitive than compelling. The pacing drags in spots, especially in the middle, and the supporting characters could’ve used more depth. Some of the plot twists are predictable, and the ending, while satisfying in its own twisted way, didn’t quite pack the punch I was hoping for.

Still, if you enjoy dark comedies with morally questionable protagonists and a sprinkle of chaos, this book might be worth a try. Just don’t expect a deep psychological thriller—this is more quirky than chilling.

This book was just okay for me. I just found it hard to get into and had a hard time connecting with the FMC. I think we just don't think alike and that was hard for me to connect with her.
