Oh Julie, you need to reevaluate what you consider a psychopath. My goodness that was a chase for a someone who never wanted you and to end that way. If someone doesn’t want you, just accept that and don’t do what Julie did.

This book had such a twisted charm that immediately drew me in. I loved how the darkness and humour intertwined throughout.

My goodness what a wild ride. The pace on this was great. I really enjoyed the characters and the vibe.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this arc.

Julie Tudor is Not a Psychopath by Jennifer Holdich is a fun dark novel.
The character is so well written, unhinged, and hilarious.
The story flows perfectly with the perfect pace.
There are twists and turns I did not expect, and I was laughing so hard.
Highly recommend !

Ok, this book grabbed me immediately. What an opening chapter! I was intrigued & wanted to keep reading. In fact, I read this in just over 24 hours! The pacing was perfect; never a dull moment. Julie was written so incredibly, creepily well. What a fun, deranged ride! Fair warning: Animal death (not described in any specific detail of how)/taxidermy

The best thing about this one was the title for me, and I have to say I was disappointed in what I thought was going to be a winner for me. I love an unhinged FMC, and as someone who is somewhat prone to crushing hard and living in delulu land as a result, I thought I'd find Julie to be relatable and endearing. Oof, she was not. Always being a bit of an odd duck, we see bits of her past, as a young nursing student obsessed with the head doctor at the hospital, and the events that transpired that caused her to be kicked out of her course and start a career in admin at a financial institution. In present day (the recent past of 2009), she starts a new obsession over her coworker Sean, who is half her age at 25, and the secondhand embarrassment I felt while reading their interactions was intense. In that sense, the author did a great job of writing a truly despicable character, but I guess I prefer my unhinged FMCs to be a little more cute but psycho than psycho psycho. There were also some implications of animal cruelty that did not occur on page, and seemed more added for shock value and to show another layer of how messed up Julie was than to advance the plot at all. Luckily this was still a quick read for me, but it didn't hold my interest and was overall a let down.

Julie Tudor most certainly is a psychopath. This book was a wild ride. I was not expecting it, but I could not put this book down. I had to know what was going to happen with Julie despite the fact that I did not like her at all! This book was pure chaos and the dual timelines worked so well. I liked how we were able to see what happened to Julie in the past and what she had done leading up to meeting Sean. There were times I felt bad for Julie because she clearly did not understand when people were taking advantage of her or making fun of her. I would feel bad and then she would kill a pet...Again, Julie Tudor IS a psychopath. Overall I enjoyed this book and I appreciate that the author immediately apologized for the pets in her author's note. I recommend this for a wild ride.

Julie Tudor is 49 years old, has worked in the same boring job for over 25 years, and has styled her hair like Princess Diana for decades. She wears all black and she has had many pets…but those never seem to act the right way. She works with a younger man named Sean, and though he keeps it secret, she knows he’s in love with her. It doesn’t matter that he had a wife who died; he was clearly not happy in that relationship. It doesn’t matter that he’s now dating a pretty woman his age; that’s just so office gossip doesn’t get started, surely. Yep, Sean and Julie are having quite the love affair - it just happens to be in her head.
This isn’t her first love. There was the married doctor who definitely wished he could leave his wife to be with Julie. There was her sister’s boyfriend, who obviously was just hanging around the family to be near Julie. There was the television star who was speaking to the world, but thinking of Julie. Sean is the greatest though - he’s made up a nickname for Julie, they occasionally have tea in the break room, and when he needs help with a spreadsheet, who is it he’s looking for? Julie!
This book goes from the years 1972 to 2020, but the majority of it is set in 2009. You’ll find out all about Julie’s loves, her conquests, her art, her pets, her murders…and it’s so good! Disturbing, yet lighthearted and at many times, funny, this is the book I thought I was going to read this spring. “Creep: A Love Story” is a debut novel by Emily van Straatan that came out in April, and I loved it, but it was a darker and more depressing story. Julie’s story has similarities, but it’s not as sad of a read - this book makes the insanity more fun, and there was a lot more action. I liked the feel of this book, and the writing was great. The things that the two books have in common are a character with a warped view of love, and my rating of 4.5, rounded up for being a debut!
(Thank you to Sourcebooks Landmark, Jennifer Holdich and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on June 24, 2025.)

🩸💔"Julie Tudor Is Not a Psychopath" by Jennifer Holdich💔🩸
Julie Tudor is a force to be reckoned with, armed with a spreadsheet and a letter opener—and she's not afraid to use them. She insists she’s not unhinged—just in love. If you enjoy rooting for someone you shouldn’t, this wickedly original debut is for you.
From the moment I laid eyes on that eye-catching cover and gobbled up the blurb, I was in. Thanks to Sourcebook Landmark for indulging my obsession by providing a gifted ARC after a bit of groveling. Julie is the perfect unreliable narrator—socially awkward, slightly delusional, and unpredictably relatable. One moment, she's jotting down her crush's favorite snacks, and the next, she's finding creative ways to overcome obstacles. She's the kind of character who makes you gasp and giggle at the same time.
The alternating timelines made this a compelling read for me. Holdich skillfully intertwines Julie’s childhood trauma with her present-day infatuation.
The book is a little slow at the start, but I was eager for Julie to let her freak flag fly. Once she did, I couldn’t look away.
Perfect for fans of "Dexter," "You," or any story that dances the fine line between horror and hilarity. Can’t wait to see what tricks this author has up their sleeve next!

First thank you to source books and NetGalley for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review

Synopsis: Julie has found her soulmate Sean at work. The problem is Sean doesn’t know it. Julie has no problem going after what she wants and the people in her way will be dealt with
What I liked: this is a debut novel and is very well written. You will keep turning pages and can’t believe what you read. The story is told from Julie’s pov which was a great choice. I think the dark humor/satire missed something for me and came across more cringey to me. She really details out the story well and it was a totally unique premise.

📚MY REVIEW:
To my friends who love a good unhinged character, allow me to introduce you to Julie Tudor, sure to be the most unhinged and wildly captivating character you'll likely ever meet. She has officially become 2025's Queen of Unhinged -- and I'm here for every bit of her crazy.
From the start of the book's prologue, I knew this story was going to be completely off-the-rails. This book was unputdownable as it moved through alternating timelines in Julie's life. With this debut novel, Jennifer Holdich brilliantly captured the inner workings of Julie's mind. Initially, I thought maybe Julie just had an overly active imagination when she appreciated about the world's adoration of her. I mean, her perspective seemed SO out there with all her cringe-worthy thoughts that I found myself almost embarrassed on her behalf.
So here I was, just reading along and thinking to myself this woman was just so cringe...and then BAM. The realization hit me that Julie was absolutely CRAZY. And just when I thought she couldn't possibly get more delulu, Holdich would take us to another time in Julie's life and WOW -- she was even crazier than I thought.
There were so many deliciously salacious surprises in this story that I'd love to share, but it's way more fun for you to just read them yourself. This book kept me stunned and laughing out loud at the unbelievable depths to Julie's unhingedness -- and I loved every single minute of it.
If you like your characters unhinged as much as you enjoy jaw-dropping and delusional antics, you're going to love Julie Tudor as much as I did. This book is the perfect summer beach read, with its fantastically eye-catching cover and its laugh-out-loud crazy. I can't rave enough about what a fun read this was --be sure you get your hands on this one as soon as you can!

I absolutely tore through Julie Tudor Is Not a Psychopath—I’m a sucker for unreliable narrators, and Julie might be one of the most darkly funny, chillingly delusional ones I’ve read in a while. She’s a buttoned-up, middle-aged financial analyst who swears she’s perfectly normal, even as she becomes disturbingly obsessed with a much younger coworker. What made it so addictive was the sharp British humor mixed with genuine psychological tension—I found myself laughing one minute and totally creeped out the next. It flips the usual stalker-thriller formula on its head by centering a woman who’s not just spiraling, but controlling the narrative with unnerving charm. And despite everything, there were moments I weirdly related to her loneliness and need for connection, which made the whole thing even more unsettling. If you like your thrillers smart, twisted, and full of uncomfortable truths, this one’s a wild ride

Julie Tudor insists she’s not a psychopath.
She’s just a spreadsheet-loving, single, 49-year-old woman with a crush on her younger co-worker—and maybe a few bodies in the basement. No big deal.
This book is dark, hilarious, fast-paced, and wildly entertaining. I couldn’t put it down (seriously read it in a single day). Julie’s voice is razor-sharp, completely unhinged, and somehow still sympathetic—even when you know she’s absolutely not okay. I laughed out loud one minute, grimaced the next, and was somehow still rooting for her the whole time.
The story strikes the perfect balance of biting humor, emotional instability, and that unsettling “wait… is she serious?” energy. If you love dark comedies with messy, morally questionable women who spiral in the most entertaining ways, this one’s a must-read.

Julie Tudor IS a psychopath! With such a wacky and delusional main character, this turned out to be a quick and entertaining read. The story jumps between timelines quite a bit, but I didn’t find it hard to follow. I didn’t laugh out loud, but I definitely giggled more than a few times. I’m not sure why I was rooting for Julie, but I was. Maybe because, at times, she seemed to realize (even if she didn’t want to admit it) that she had completely gone off the deep end. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this advanced reader’s copy.

Jennifer Holdich’s "Julie Tudor Is Not a Psychopath" is a dark, funny, and offbeat story following Julie Tudor, a slightly unhinged and meticulous character convinced that love justifies anything, even murder.
The writing is engaging, pulling readers into Julie’s carefully curated life and her obsessive fixation on a younger man named Sean. The pacing is fast and every chapter offers new reveals or hilarious, yet slightly cringey, inner monologues. Julie is terrifying and endearing in equal measure. She is so completely delusional that readers can't help but root for her. Supporting characters, including her oblivious love interest Sean and a rotating cast of romantic rivals, are there to show readers just how far Julie is willing to go to get what she wants.
This is very much in the dark satire/black comedy vein and Holdich brilliantly balances sinister moments with absurdity in a fresh and unexpectedly fun way. Readers who typically enjoy satirical thrillers or rom-coms will surely find "Julie Tudor Is Not a Psychopath" to be an enjoyable, slight off-kilter read.

Julie Tudor is Not a Psychopath is some dark humor from Jennifer Holdich.
"Julie has found the love of her life - Sean. For some reason, he thinks he's in love with someone else. But Julie's not worried about competition. What's a little murder in the name of love?"
Julie is a character that cannot recognize any social cues. She invents a story in her head and goes with that. (Like her 'timeless' hairstyle) She is determined to make him announce his true feelings for her (as she sees it) Holdich gives us all the back story and the people and animals that have gotten in her way - taxidermy is such a useful skill. I felt a little sorry for Julie but I'm glad that none of my colleagues have homicidal tendencies or have imprinted on me like those dragons from Avatar. Maybe you've known a person that would not take no for an answer and was always wanting to spend time or do things with you. And beware of the alcohol. That moment with Sean is pretty funny.
This is not 'Rage Fiction' - just a character that wants what she wants. There's some very dark humor here (Cat and gerbil lovers beware)
Crazy debut from Holdich.

This book was bananas in the best way! Julie Tudor (thinks she) has it all - a well respected job, a nice home, and a loving boyfriend. In reality, Julie Tudor is in love with men who have no idea what's going on. More often than not these men are married to other women, because their feelings for Julie are just too pure and too strong to be with her, and Julie needs to push them in the right direction. Sometimes Julie has pets, but it turns out pets can be frustrating. Thankfully Julie has many hobbies to distract her from the noise, including taxidermy.
Truly this book was wild, it felt very American Psycho while having its own unique touches. It left me feeling weird in the best way, I'm very glad I had the opportunity to read it

So, umm... Julie Tudor is indeed a Psychopath. Poor Julie just doesn't see it. This was a quick read that was absolutely unhinged. It gave Joe from "You" vibes, IYKYK. Julie is 49 and has held the same job for almost 30 years. She is good at what she does, working on spreadsheets. Sean is 25. He works in the same office as Julie. Julie just so happens to be in love with him. The problem is, he doesn't know it or quite feel the same way. However, Julie will stop at nothing until they can finally be together.
This novel goes reflects back on multiple time periods in Julie's life which gives you insight into why she is the way she is. Julie is a very complex character and I really enjoyed reading about her and her motives. Is she unhinged? Absolutely! Do I potentially see her reasoning behind why she does what she does? At times... however, she is a bit of a psychopath. She is just looking for love, and may interpret a single glance from a man as him being in love with her... Poor, poor Julie. You can't help but root for Julie to find her own happiness in the end.
If you're looking for a quick, quirky, light, psychotic read, then look no further! 4 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for the ARC!

Wow! Julie Tudor is definitely a psychopath but doesn't think anything is wrong with what she is doing. After true love never runs smooth. I loved that this was told from the viewpoint of poor deluded Julie. Trying to find true love is hard but Julie has a plan and knows when someone is interested in her even if the signs say no.
The viewpoint of the bad guy/gal is not often what you read in books. This story puts you in Julie's mind and lets you see what she is planning next. This is a terrific read. What a great debut. Looking forward to the next book by this author. I would highly recommend this book.
Thank you to #NetGalley, #JenniferHoldich and #SourcebooksLandmark for a copy of this book.

Prepare yourself for an intense and crazy read! Julie is a person with a routine and very strong beliefs, especially about her 'boyfriends" and she will go to extremes for them. The problem is that her 'boyfriends' don't know that they are in a relationship and Julie does not take kindly to their actual partners. The story was well written and kept me reading even as I could not believe what I was reading. Julie was delightfully unlikable and being privy to her thought process was equal parts disturbing and fascinating. If you are looking for a different story about love gone wrong give this book a try.
