Title: Julie Tudor is Not a Psychopath
Author: Jennifer Holdich
Publisher: Sourcebooks Landmark
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Pub Date: July 8, 2025
My Rating: 2.5 Stars! Hmmm feeling generous so rounded up
Pages: 320

Forty-nine year old Julie Tudor has a fantastic job, home, and is in love with Sean her coworker who is a wonderful guy.

However, twenty-five year old Sean is indeed in love but not with Julie.
Julie has been in a similar situation before and knows how to get rid of competition.
Hmmm. . . . ..
I requested this back in February and since I typical read by pub date and with a July 8 publishing date I was saving it for now
. It sounded like a fun read back then however now that I started it I thought I believe I made a mistake.
I tried to hang in there – true I skipped a bit. But it just wasn’t working for me.
I read Ms. Holdich’s ‘Acknowledgements’- It seemed she was somewhat apology. She said she found it was easier to write some things than it was reading them in other books.
I am not a writer but I am a reader but I believe I know what she meant!

However, I do believe I will give her another read in the future.

Want to thank NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for granting me this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for July 8, 2025.

This was such a good book. I loved the story and the writing so much. The characters were great and the story flowed smoothly. Will definitely read more books by this author in the future.

How would you eliminate what you believe is your competition? I can’t imagine murder, but Julie Tudor does.

She is 49 and working, owns a home and is looking for the love of her life.

In walks Sean, who is 25, HOWEVER he is in a relationship. Julie does not consider this a threat, as he must be stuck in this relationship.

She is not the only threat and Julie is not above killing to get what she wants.
This novel was fun, entertaining and perfect with some comical relief.

I went into this one expecting dark, snarky humor. Instead I felt like I was watching a train wreck that triggered pity and squeamishness in equal measure... Julie Tudor has some serious problems, and there was nothing light-hearted about them. She was off-putting and reading her story made me sad for her, but in an uncomfortable way. If creating a sense of discomfort about her "relationship" was the goal, Holdich achieved it - but if the goal was a mystery/thriller with an (unrequited) relationship at its heart, it missed the mark for me... It didn't feel like satire. It felt like devolution into creepy obsession. This one wasn't for me...

3/5 ⭐️

Julie Tudor is Not a Psychopath is a darkly humorous, offbeat thriller that blends obsession, delusion, and murder with a touch of satire. The premise is certainly bold—Julie, a 49-year-old office worker with a fondness for spreadsheets and murder, is wildly fixated on a 25-year-old man named Sean. The unreliable narration adds intrigue, and there are moments of sharp, biting humor.

However, while the concept is intriguing, the execution sometimes falls flat. Julie’s character is meant to be disturbingly charming, but at times her voice feels more repetitive than compelling. The pacing drags in spots, especially in the middle, and the supporting characters could’ve used more depth. Some of the plot twists are predictable, and the ending, while satisfying in its own twisted way, didn’t quite pack the punch I was hoping for.

Still, if you enjoy dark comedies with morally questionable protagonists and a sprinkle of chaos, this book might be worth a try. Just don’t expect a deep psychological thriller—this is more quirky than chilling.

This book was just okay for me. I just found it hard to get into and had a hard time connecting with the FMC. I think we just don't think alike and that was hard for me to connect with her.

Ended up DNF'ing pretty early on. As much as I support womens' wrongs, this was a huge miss for me and I couldn't get behind Julie as the FMC or someone I wanted to read more about. Fun premise that would be a good fit for others I'm sure.

I read this book in four hours during a layover at the airport. I truly could not put it down. Holdich brilliantly blends dry comedy and psychological thriller. I was physically uncomfortable for most of the book but I loved it. Julie is the perfect unreliable narrator, and she is definitely a psychopath.

It didn't end the way I was hoping it would, and the last 15% of the book was slower than I wanted it to be. I would still read 10 more books like this if they existed.

Julie Tudor is not a psychopath, is an exhilarating book I was hooked from page one. Julie 49 becomes obsessed with her coworkers Sean 25. According to Julie , Sean was meant to be with her, but he doesn’t know it yet. Julie is absolutely unhinged and I absolutely love it.

Through out the book , we get Julie in different time lines doing the most crazy things in the name of love.

The Office Stalker's Guide to Love (And Spreadsheets)

Julie Tudor wants you to know she's not a psychopath. She just happens to have a perfectly organized spreadsheet tracking her colleague Sean's daily routines, favourite lunch spots, and relationship status. And sure, maybe she's spent the last three months figuring out how to sabotage his new girlfriend's career. But that's just good planning, right?

Jennifer Holdich's debut novel, Julie Tudor Is Not a Psychopath, hits that sweet spot between The Office and Fatal Attraction. Our protagonist, a 49-year-old spreadsheet enthusiast, has her sights set on 25-year-old Sean, who's made the unfortunate mistake of falling for someone who isn't her. What follows is a deliciously unhinged journey through the mind of a woman who sees nothing wrong with a little light stalking in pursuit of true love.

The genius here lies in Julie's voice - she's the kind of narrator who makes you laugh even as you slowly back away from the page. Her matter-of-fact explanations for increasingly disturbing behaviour land somewhere between hilarious and horrifying. When she justifies breaking into Sean's email because "any IT professional would agree that password security is everyone's responsibility," you'll find yourself nodding along before catching yourself.

Holdich masterfully walks the line between workplace comedy and psychological thriller. The office politics feel real, the tension builds naturally, and the dark humour lands perfectly. While some readers might wish for a more traditionally likeable protagonist, that's missing the point - Julie Tudor isn't here to be liked. She's here to get what she wants, one meticulously organized spreadsheet at a time.

The novel's only real weakness is that it might be too clever for its own good. Readers looking for a straightforward thriller might find themselves wrong-footed by the satirical elements. But for those who enjoy their psychological suspense with a side of pitch-black comedy, this book is a twisted delight.

4.5/5 stars - A wickedly entertaining debut that will make you laugh, squirm, and maybe check your own behaviour for signs of light stalking. Just remember: if you have to keep telling people you're not a psychopath, you might want to review your life choices.

📖 Book Review 📖 If you have to clarify to people that you’re not a psychopath, are you really making clear choices in your life? Julie Tudor seems to have it all together on the outside but the true story is as far from this shiny exterior as possible and I think I can say that we are all here for it. Listen, this is fictional life and the more unhinged, the better. Jennifer Holdich delivers an unputdownable book that is so delectable how could it not be summer’s guilty pleasure?!?

Julie Tudor is Not a Psychopath is a really awesome guilty pleasure read. It is interesting to see inside Julie's mind and understand the depths of narcissism within. This book is about Julie and her admirers and the chaos that ensues when Julie sets her sights on you. Julie is the center of her own universe. A universe where people would do anything to be a part of her life... Or not. Julie Tudor is Not a Psychopath is a book about some who lives in a fantasy world. After a traumatic incident took her out of nursing school she settled in to a job with a financial company in London. At this job, she met and fell in love with a young man (about 20 years her junior) and decided that they were destined to be together. Julie analyzes every interaction she has with this young man and comes to the conclusion that he is deeply in love with her; however, everyone around them will do anything they can to keep them apart.
I loved this book. I loved Julie's character and thought it was so well developed. She truly is a psychopath and would do anything to possess the one she sets sights on. This was a page turner for me and kept me engaged throughout. The prologue gives a pretty good hint as to what is going to happen in the end, but Julie never-ending battle against reality keeps you guessing at what she'll do next.
This is my favorite kind of thriller to read. It's fun, sassy, and so far from reality that you truly get lost in the fantasy of it all. This is a 5 Star pick for me!

Julie Tudor is a 49 year old spreadsheet genius who loves a good monochromatic look and exciting daydream, has a number of hobbies (gardening, painting, taxidermy, drinking), and is willing -and capable!- of doing whatever it takes to make her true love happy. Even if that true love is only for now. Even if it's unrequited.

The cover and blurb alone are sure to draw a number of readers and while there's something there it somehow falls just short of what you want. While she has her outrageous, amusing moments ("How did they expect to keep the peace if homewreckers couldn't be disciplined?"), you have to suspend A LOT of belief to venture off with Jools. Unless you're off to Scotland, I suppose. While her upbringing may be relatable for some, living in the perfect sibling's shadow, you have to wonder what else was going on or how nobody in her life noticed she was unwell. Her family, and coworkers, are generally distant, unsupportive, and oblivious to Julie. Perhaps that's why she's been fortunate enough to find true love so many times.

Again, there are some darkly comedic bits, and there's an incident that makes you feel truly awful for a young Julie, but overall it's a bit repetitive, slow, and dull by the story's end. I think this would have been a great short story if it were trimmed down, but as it is, it's just ok. Julie's psychopathic tendencies never venture further than they have before and follow the same pattern, so you never get a suspenseful, interesting new adventure to go on, no twists. Like the other characters, Julie falls flat, too.

Wow, I had no idea what to expect with this book, and it completely surprised me! Julie is that mysterious person in the office no one really talks to, and getting to know her through her own perspective was such a wild ride — I found myself scratching my head more than once! The author did an amazing job fleshing out her history and showing exactly how Julie became the person she is today. Her quirks and strange worldview made her such a fascinating character. The pacing was spot-on, and honestly, I had such a great time reading it!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this novel in exchange for my honest opinion!

THIS BOOK IS LITERAL INSANITY!!!! I need about 50 more of these stat, Jennifer Holdich!! The eponymous Julie Tudor is so unhinged, so delusional, and so FUN. If you like the Netflix show "You", think Joe but somehow even crazier. Like Joe in "You", I somehow found myself really rooting for Julie and wanting her to get away with all of her (MANY) crimes she committed over the years. I think that's the mark of powerful storytelling, when an author can get you to love a character that you definitely shouldn't/very much wouldn't in real life. There were some parts of the book too where you could tell that some characters were making fun of Julie when she didn't realize that was what was happening, and every time that happened I found myself wanting to reach into the book and throttle them myself! How dare they take advantage of this (unhinged and downright terrifying) older woman!!

This book was honestly a 5 star read for the, Julie's audacity won me over and I know she will continue to do so to many others when this book is released. Jennifer Holdich, I can't wait to see how far you go!

Our girl Julie is in fact Psycho! Was this a satire, a thriller or just a deranged internal dialogue?

The POV we receive is only through Julie bit how she describes others reactions to her both personally and physically we know what's up...and I want to be like girrllll

We receive multiple timelines of 1970's 80's The 2009/2010.

Julie 49 is in love with coworker Sean 25 and nothing will keep them apart 😳 Julie is quick to lose interest in most humans and animals but will stop at nothing for love.

It was a decent debut novel that had many entertaining and shake your head moments, the pacing was off a bit and dragged toward the end. I also feel it was similar to stories I've read in the past so not very original.

This book jumps from dark humor to a clever, yet suspenseful thriller.

Julie Tutor is in love, but he is in love with someone else. She has an obsession and she gets in trouble. Will he love Julie? What is the plan?

It’s a quick and entertaining read. Definitely recommend.

I really truly wanted to love this, I always try and step out of my usual genres, but this did not work for me. I felt a little bored. The pacing was too slow for my taste and the storyline felt really repetitive at times.

ARC review-
this was quite the wild journey for our dear julie tudor. it was interesting to be inside her head as she talked herself through the truth she saw in her own delusions. there were some parts of the story i found funny but some parts really took me out of the story which led to its rating. overall, if you are looking for a funny mystery i would recommend giving this a try!
