This book was very dark, and hard to read at points. I like Chevy Stevens, but the abuse in this one was a lot to handle. However, for readers who love something darker than most mysteries will eat this up.

I received this book from St. Martin's Press a while back and in order to improve my NetGalley numbers, I decided to finally pick this one up. Big mistake. There's a quote from the show Friends that really encompasses my feelings quite well: "They shouldn’t have called it “It’s a Wonderful Life,” they should have called it “It’s a sucky life and just when you think it can’t suck any more it does.”

That's how I feel about this book. The abuse starts from the beginning of the book and never stops. There's alcoholism, physical and emotional abuse, rape, biting, choking, drug use, more rape and it is never handled well. The characters never get to heal and it's just one big lie and fight. And just when you think things are improving, it all circles back to a terrible even that should not have been a plot points.

I've read a lot of books with terrible events in them but the authors (for the most part) handled them with care and the characters got their redemption in some way, shape or form, but this book just felt graphic and gratuitous.

This book also should come with a long list of trigger warnings but then again, the entire book from start to finish is a trigger warning. Please take care of yourself if you pick this one up.

Sisterly love

When they are forced to run away they never expected things could get so bad.
What a great story.
This will certainly keep you turning those pages. Make sure you have no other plans when you start to read this book.

I will certainly be looking out for more books from this author.

I have to say that I enjoyed this book with all the suspense and was intrigued to know how everything would end, but I do have to warn you that if you have triggers that are affected by abuse and rape, this may not be a read for you. Chevy Stephens does not shy away from those topics in this one.

The Campbell sisters have decided to escape from their abusive father and end up going to a different town and changing their names. Can they stay away from the people they once knew forever or will they have to go back to the town where they grew up and all the memories come back for them?

When the sisters get abducted by Brian and Gavin, the abuse ensues once again when they have the girls hidden away at their farm, along with some sexual abuse. When Dani comes up pregnant, will she give the baby up for adoption or will she keep it and raise it? You will have to read and find out what happens with these sisters.

You will not expect the ending at all but I don't want to give away any more than I already have about this book because reading it and experiencing it as it unfolds is the best part. Chevy Stephens has done and awesome job with this one. She sure does not shy away from topics that other authors would. I am anxious to see what is next for us from Chevy Stephens for sure!!

Great story of three sisters who go on the run after a horrifying situation. Eighteen years later they are still in hiding when one of them goes missing. The past has caught up with them. The characters are great, and the storyline kept me riveted. Stevens has another great one!
