This was such a good read. I resonated a lot with Sunny and her journey to get back to herself. The body talk and neutrality is such an important topic that doesn’t get brought up enough. I didn’t love the love triangle, but the ending more than made up for that.

Sunny Side Up made me want to smack Sunny upside the head.

You know how in the show The Good Place, one of Tahani's defining traits is the fact she namedrops as much as she possibly can? To the point that "she even namedrops in Hell?" Yeah, that is Sunny Greene. Any chance the author took to make Sunny seem ultra-popular and beloved by the masses by namedropping a person or place who loooooved her, the author took. That just added to the insufferable nature of this character.

For a character who is supposedly an everywoman, she sure is treated like she shits gold. Every single thing she does is supposedly perfect and flawless, from her newsletter to her swimsuit designs. (Side bar: there are some incredible plus-sized swimsuit designers out there, and ones who won't break your bank). Every man is treated as falling in love with her, though I can't for the life of me figure out what she emotionally has to offer any of them, particularly Dennis the Postman. (Side Bar Two: why is there no body positivity or neutrality for the men in her life? Why do they all have rugby legs?)

Do I feel anti-feminist writing this? Kind of, I try not to hate other women unless their beliefs specifically go against the human rights of others. But I hated Sunny, I hated this book. and I could not recommend this book less.

I hate writing a negative review, but this book was difficult to get through. I love a romance novel. I love body positivity. I love female entrepreneurship. I don't like the overglorification of consumerism and a level of NYC privilege not seen since the Sex and the City movies. It feels especially tone def rather than aspirational or escapist given what 2025 has been serving so far. Easy skip.

What a cute rom-com just in time for summer - this will be a perfect pool read upon its release! We meet Sunny, a 30-something New Yorker going through a divorce. While a non-nonsense business professional in the PR field, she still struggles with body image, something many of us can relate to. After failing to find the perfect swimsuit for vacation, she launches her own swimwear company to make apparel suitable (hah!) for all body types. As she builds steam in her new business, she also steps back into the dating pool, leading to even more chaos and adventure!

While a little cheesy at times, I really enjoyed this one! Sunny was kind, witty, and relatable for so many of us - who DOESN'T have body image issues, at least here and there? I loved the plus-sized representation and "Sunny Side Up" touched on important themes and ideas that women of any age, profession, and body type can learn from. Thanks so much for the ARC!

Sunny Side Up by Katie Sturino is a vibrant and uplifting memoir that is as honest as it is inspiring. I loved how Sturino blends humor with powerful insights, creating a refreshing narrative about body positivity, self-love, and embracing your true self. Her writing is conversational and engaging, making it feel like you’re chatting with a friend who’s offering empowering advice. Sturino’s authenticity shines through, and her stories are both relatable and motivating. The way she challenges societal beauty standards while encouraging readers to find confidence in their own skin is both timely and necessary. It’s a joyful, encouraging read that leaves you feeling uplifted and ready to take on the world.

I enjoyed this story. I liked the focus of a plus sized woman. Sunny is a witty fmc with a lot of spunk and is completely relatable. This is really a story about fitting in, about family and about friendships.

I think the body positivity in this book is so incredibly well done and can really be used to promote that to anyone who is struggling.

I so wanted to like Sunny Side Up, but it's not much female empowerment when the day you sign a business deal you engage in a relationship with the person who funded your business.

Well, I guess the good news is that this book still has me thinking about it several days after having finished it.
As an average size female, do I just not realize the issues that bigger women might have with finding good clothes, including bathing suits ?
As an average person that works an average job in an average city , I wonder if that sort of life really does happen for people? My life has certainly never been a puzzle that has been easily put together.
Having said all of that, this was in fact a cute book to read. The main character had a lot of personality as did a lot of the side characters.
I know that this is in fact a fiction book so I was able to sit back and just enjoy the fun that was sunny side up.

Such a great book! It was funny, emotional and empowering! I love the character Sunny! She was so driven and real! The story was so modern day and fast moving! I will definitely be looking for a Book 2!

What a fantastically written story of a young woman’s journey to love herself. I’m not usually one that loves the story of the woman learning g to love herself for who she is, but this one does it right. The perfect balance of laughter, sincerity and braveness.

I've been pretty stingy with 5 stars lately and SUNNY SIDE UP absolutely deserves all 5.

A linear timeline told in first person, this is a story about growing up and being your authentic self. About making grown up decisions while the voices of self doubt creep in. The author does a great job of lifting other women and what life is like in our 30s.

It's the perfect combination of romance and friendship and entrepreneurial get go mixed in with the not so butterflies and rainbows side of life. One of the parts of the story I enjoyed was the FMC trusting her gut. While she didn't always listen to the noise immediately, she learned to wade through negative self talk to come out on top.

While Katie Sturino is brand new to me as an author, it turns out I've been following her on social media for years.

Very fun read. Great to have a strong MC. Some bits were definitely unrealstic but it was a fun read nonetheless!

This is the perfect book to be released in 2025. Sunny is the character the world needs now to show the power of a strong independent woman, who may not look like a model, but has everything else going for her. While dealing with her own body insecurities, Sunny ends up creating a successful swimsuit line and a popular blog, on top of running her own successful business. The book follows along as Sunny gets back into the dating game after her divorce and the men she meets along the way. The jerk of her ex-husband, the silver fox, and Mr. Postman made for such a fun read, and I couldn't wait to see who Sunny ended up with in the end. Highly recommend you read this book.

This book is what would happen if Bridget Jones Diary and The Devil Wears Prada had a baby. Although I did find it hard to keep my attention, the second half of the book made up for the first half being a little harder to get into. I loved the divorced friend group, the love triangle, the body positivity and the girl boss story lines. This is a solid summer read.

I really appreciated the message thoughtfully woven into the story—it added a layer of depth that stuck with me. While it took me a little while to fully connect with the book, something gradually pulled me in. By the time I reached the final page, I realized I had become a big fan of Sunny and their journey. It was well worth the read.

Sunny Side Up was a fun, light, but inspiring read on acceptance, love, and hope. I rooted hard for Sunny as she navigated dating post-divorce while creating a luxury extended-size swimwear brand.

While I enjoyed the story, some aspects felt under-developed! I would've loved a more fleshed out storyline for the main love interests, and to better understand what made Sunny feel sure he was "the one." I felt like some aspects of the story felt like skimming the surface when I craved going deeper into the subject. All in all, I think it was a fun summer read!

This is a cute book. The story kept me interested and reading. The characters were believable. Will it win a Pulitzer Prize? No but it is a cute book. The characters were realistic. This was a real page turner. Sunny is such a relatable character and I feel like sooo many can reflect on this book and their daily lives. Loved it!

There is a lot to like about this book. There is a lot of positivity for one thing. I was originally worried Sunny’s new assistant was going to All About Eve her, but she was a genuine friend.

At first I thought there was a lot of showing and not telling, but I suppose there was a lot of backstory to catch the reader up on.

It’s the kind of book where you know Sunny might make choices that will come back to haunt her, but in the end everything will turn out ok. Like how she’s torn between two men and writing about it in her newsletter and how her ex reappears once she gains notoriety.

I really liked the decision to have her entrepreneurial efforts involve swimsuits in extended sizes. I liked that language along with the phrase “bold neutrality” which was new for me.

Overall it was a really fun and enjoyable book.
