Another fantastic book in the series. Reading the series in order brings one to rely on each character’s personality and what they will bring to the story. Having the same consistent characters bring life to each book and draws you into the story as if your part of it.

Kate Burkholder is back! This time a local Amish business owner is found dismembered in Painters Mill. Just when you think it is a one body case, another body turns up quite a distance outside of Painters Mill. This body is the best friend of the first deceased. Are these connected or two separate cases? Kate tries to solve the case while continuously dealing with a community that just won't share what they know. Again, another great book in this series that I thoroughly enjoyed. Kate is a really complex character that I'm always rooting for. Castillo writes such descriptive stories that are so dark and uncover the worst of humans. Kate is always there like a beacon of hope. Thank you to Net Galley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy!

Right from the chilling opening scene, I was pulled back into the world of Painters Mill, where the Amish community’s quiet exterior hides some truly dark secrets. Kate is as sharp and determined as ever, and watching her navigate the heat, the lies, and the real danger made for a completely gripping read. The mystery around Samuel and Aaron’s deaths unfolded with a lot of tension and some real surprises. Castillo’s writing makes the oppressive summer setting and the urgency of the case feel almost physical. This book hits hard emotionally too — it’s not just about solving a crime; it’s about what happens when innocence collides with corruption. Rage is smart, atmospheric, and brutally good — exactly what I hoped for.

Thank you Netgalley for the advanced reader copy! I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

It’s always fun to join Painters Mill, Chief of Police Kate Burkholder on another challenging investigation deep in Amish country in Ohio. Kate and her team investigate the murders of two Amish men. The first is the dismembered body of young Samuel Eicher who had recently returned to the Amish ways and owned a successful landscaping business. When his best friend, Aaron Shetler is found dead, his body in a barrel that was dumped in a ravine, the investigation becomes more complicated.
As efforts to solve the “who” and “why” of the murders, information isn’t forthcoming from the Amish community, leading to frustration on the part of the officers. Kate has a strong suspicion that people are covering up important facts, and she uses her skills as an interviewer, as well as her understanding of the Amish ways, to slowly gain trust and discover the horrible truth..
There’s plenty of suspense and drama as Kate makes the connection between the two murders, and the ties the men had to criminals who deal in human trafficking. It’s a dangerous arena to step into, and Kate is well aware of that, but she is compelled to see this through. Her doggedness and determination are hallmarks of her character that stays consistent through the series, and she’s a person one would want on their side in times of need. Her kindness and compassion come through in this story as well as she deals with the grieving families, making her more than just a stereotypical tough cop.
The ongoing relationship with Tomasetti, who works for the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handled with tenderness and comes across as real, adding an interesting subplot, and scenes that are about love and not simply sex. Something I always appreciate in a mystery that has a thread of romance.
The book releases in July, just in time to be a perfect summer read.

Linda Castillo added yet another great book to her Kate Burkholder series. Great twists and turns and a touch of Amish.

Another amazing work by Linda. This tragic piece of genius was another wrenching page-turner! I had this Burkholder masterpiece finished within two days! Would recommend this in a heartbeat (mine was constantly beating rapidly). Good thing that Tomasetti took in a stray cat! Kate is going to need to start borrowing lives, if her actions continue! Wow! Thank you, again!

I absolutely love the Kate Burkholder series, and this book did not disappoint! Castillo does a fantastic job of portraying Amish life and the way that Englischer ways infiltrate their closed communities, as well as the challenges of investigating crimes within the Amish as an outsider. This book portrays seedier crimes and greater personal risk to Chief Burkholder. Although we have been following Kate's personal and professional life through the series, this book deals a lot less with her personal life and relationships than it does with the crimes and investigation. The story starts with the mystery of a body found, but the danger becomes apparent early on. This is a real page turner as we race to determine the scope of the crimes and the mind behind it all. I got caught up in this book and read it in a sitting - quickly drawn in and then just couldn't put it down! This is one of the more depressing in the series as the crimes are more reprehensible and there was little of Kate's personal life to distract you from this. It was a great mystery, though, and I thank NetGalley for granting me an ARC of the book. If you like crime thrillers and Amish culture, you will enjoy this book. Although the books in the series do not need to be read in order as far as the crimes go, it helps to read them in order to follow Chief Burkholder's life and her progression in her position of Chief of Police.

Fans looking forward to the yearly Kate Burkholder mystery installment will not be disappointed. This dark, suspenseful drama has Kate and the entire team on the search to uncover who is behind the brutal murders of two Amish men. Kate as usual is up for the task along with her OBI husband Tomasetti. Great edition to the series. Highly recommended, as well as all the books in this series.

Kate Burkholder, Chief of Police in a small town, is constantly negotiating between her job and the large Amish community in her county. When 3 Amish kids find a dismembered body, the search is on to find out what happened to the Amish young man. The victim had enjoyed the freedom of rumspringa and became involved with the wrong people. In addition, a new group had joined the local Amish community. The investigation leads Kate and her team on a race to prevent more senseless murders only to find that behind the scenes there may be a bigger crime ring involved. Kate will not be deterred from solving the crimes. It is an exciting read.

I received an ARC for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book. It is similar to the other books in the series and if you like those I believe you will like this one as well. Linda always knows how to keep me wanting to read more. I have a hard time putting down her books.

I really enjoy this series, but it just seems like maybe Kate should not be a cop. She literally gets blindsided and almost killed every book. Which I understand is part of the plot, but perhaps in real life she would be encouraged to go on a different path.
An Amish man is found murdered and his body cut into pieces. Before long, his best friend is also found murdered. While Kate tries to locate this girl that had been seen with them, she is drugged and almost killed. She finds out lots of underground things going on through these two clubs. Good suspense.

Rage by Linda Castillo Kate Burkholder #17
When three Amish children make a grisly discovery on a sultry summer day in Painters Mill, Ohio, Chief Kate Burkholder and her team know they have a tough job ahead of them. A young Amish man has been dismembered and buried. If it weren’t for scavengers, his remains might never have been found. Who was he, who killed him, and why was he killed?
The victim proves to have been the owner-operator of a landscape business, but the investigation is in its infant stages when a couple more kids stumble upon another body. What’s going on in Amish country? Kate, who is formerly Amish, and her small band of officers, plus Ohio Board of Investigations detective/husband John Tomasetti have their work cut out for them. When they learn that the deceased men had ties to a nightclub, they start looking into the operations and learn that several young Amish women have worked there. One girl’s name stands out as someone who may have information for them. Can they find her before it’s too late?
If you’re a faithful reader of the Kate Burkholder series, you’ve probably come to expect danger. The Chief is not known for holding back when it comes to being cautious. When she’s on the trail of a killer, she cannot, will not wait for backup. This cat has more than nine lives!
Rage, named for the social gatherings that Amish teens have during rumspringa, is perhaps the most sordid Burkholder thriller yet.
I received a digital copy of [book:Rage|217387705] as an ARC. My thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks to NetGalley, Minotaur Books, and the author.
5 stars

I'm a big fan of the Kate Burkholder books and have read them all to date. In this book, three young people were found dead in a very short period of time in Kate's district; the deaths of the two young men, who were friends, were gruesome. The last death was of a young woman who was found dead in her house, with a preliminary diagnosis of suicide.
It took Kate a while to figure out what the three young people had in common, other than being Amish or having connections to Amish. This book shows a dark side to the Amish rumspringa.
I received an e-arc from publisher St. Martin's Press and voluntarily read and reviewed it.

Linda Castillo never disappoints with her Kate Burkholder books. I devour each book as soon as it releases. Kate and Tomasetti are my favorite law enforcement duo. #TeamKate #TeamTomasetti

Another great addition to the Painter's Mill series. Similar story progression to all the others in the series, but it is still a satisfying read. Likable main and supporting characters. Good mystery with timely elements.
Linda Castillo books are always a fun read.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the e-ARC.

This is such a good book and such a good series! Linda Castillo takes on difficult and dark situations in a respectful, sympathetic way. Kate Burkholder, Chief of Police in a small , primarily Amish town in Ohio, is a solid character. Although this book can easily be read as a stand-alone, recommend reading previous books for more clear understanding. I look forward to reading more by this talented writer!

In RAGE, written by Linda Castillo, three Amish children discover body parts while playing hide and seek. While Kate and her partner, dressed like a cow, visit a class of second-graders to give a safety talk, Kate Burkholder (Chief of Police) gets a call about a dead body (parts) found by Amish kids. Is it the body that of Sam Yutzy, a man who has a nursery of trees and wants forgiveness for past transgressions? If it is, how did this horror happen? I read on.
I enjoy returning to Kate Burkholder’s world. I especially like her relationship with her husband, John Tomasetti (an agent with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation). The fact that Kate was once Amish adds to the authenticity of her character. The plot is absorbing, as usual; Linda Castillo writes in a way that captures my attention. I like the way she weaves the review of facts into the dialogue and look forward to reading future books in the Kate Burkholder series. Thank you, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley, for the chance to read and review RAGE.

Finally!!!! #17 in the series and Kate is back as Chief Burkholder. I’ve read all her books and just love everything this author writes. The Amish have always fascinated me and throw in a few murders, I found myself glued since the first page. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. Another 5 star book in this series!

I am a fan of this series and read all books from the beginning. I like how the characters have developed through time. This book has an interesting plot with twists and turns. Good read.
