This is a non-stop, edge of your seat thriller. The book is set in an Amish community and provides excellent insight into different cultures. However, at its essence, it’s about humanity (and also lack of), redemption for victims and resolve. I can’t recommend this series highly enough. In addition to its fast pace, there are strong characters, great dialogue, good description and mystery! My only regret is that I now have to wait for the next book in the series. This is a “don’t miss”. Thank you to NetGalley, Minotaur Books/St. Martins Publishing and Linda Castillo for the advanced copy. It was a treat! Please keep them coming!

If you want a top-notch series to read, allow me to suggest the Kate Burkholder series. Rage is Book 17, and I have read them all and all are excellent. It's just not Summer without a new entry! Kate is the Police Chief of Painter's Mill, a small town with plenty of local Amish. The kicker is that Kate was raised Amish and is out of the fold now. Therefore, she is the perfect peacekeeper for this town, as there seems to be a lot of crime involving the Amish in these stories. How this author keeps coming up with fresh new crimes involving the Amish is beyond me, but she always does. There is also an eclectic cast of regular characters. including Kate's husband, John Tomasetti, and they will all quickly feel like family. This story revolves around a young Amish man found buried and dismembered on a farm and discovered by children playing. What happened to him? That is for Kate to figure out, along with her team. The case gets stranger, and stranger and we get to understand what's going on in Kate's head as she thinks and solves the crime. This was definitely one of my favorites. although I did feel I figured out what the general crime was way before she did, which is rare. One thing I was hoping for was more of a possible storyline that began in the previous book, The Burning, but I guess that is not to be. Oh well, I still cannot wait to see what Kate gets into next and once again, I cannot recommend this series highly enough!
Thank you to #NetGalley, Linda Castillo and St. Martin's Press | Minotaur Books for this much-loved ARC. All opinions are my own.
I will post my review to Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Instagram and other retail and social media sites upon publication day of July 8, 2025.

I have been reading this series for years. It is absolutely one of my favorite police procedurals. I look forward to my yearly visit with Chief of Police Kate Burkholder. I have said it before, and I will keep saying it - this series just gets better and better. Number 17 is no different, and it truly earns its five star rating.
This book starts off with a murder. A young Amish man is murdered, and Chief Burkholder is called out to the gruesome scene. There doesn't appear to be a motive, but the Chief has her suspicions. She begins a methodical investigation that goes in a direction that I never saw coming.
I love that Chief Burkholder is so uniquely qualified for this position. As a former member of the Amish community, she understands the community that she serves. The author always takes the time to explain Kate's methods, and I appreciate it. Kate's team and her husband, BCI Agent John Tomasetti, are all here for this one.
"Rage" is the perfect title for this book. If you are a fan of this series, you know that all is not quiet and peaceful in this neck of the woods. Chief Burkholder works hard to bring that peace and quiet. I have read every book in this series, and I highly recommend it. If you love terrific, solid police procedurals, this series is for you.
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Minotaur Books for the opportunity to read this one early. This one doesn't release until July 8th, so you have plenty of time to get into this series if you are new. If you are a fan, preorder it now. This series is incredible!

Thank you to the author, publisher and Net Galley for providing a free ebook ARC of this title in exchange for my review.
This is book 19 (I believe) in the series, which follows former Amish Kate Burkholder, who is now the Chief of Police in her small town in Ohio. I have read some of the books, but not all. Some of the books are rather graphic, so I'm always a little hesitant to pick up one of these books.
In this installment, three Amish children find a body of an Amish landscaper. Then a second body was found, and the question comes - were they involved with something that lead to violent deaths?
This was an interesting book, but it was also depressing. Maybe I'm too emotional. I don't find this series as graphic Tess Gerritson's books, but some of them are stomach churning. There is character and location bond with this series.
3 stars.

Another stellar installment in the Kate Burkholder series, “Rage,” delivers everything fans have come to expect—tight plotting, gripping suspense, and a deep dive into the complex world of the Amish community. Linda Castillo’s writing is consistently strong, her research impeccable, and her ability to blend character-driven storytelling with crime drama remains unmatched. You truly feel immersed in the setting, like you’re walking the fields and dirt roads alongside Kate.
This series is one you simply can’t go wrong with. If you’re new to it, definitely start from the beginning—character development plays a huge role, and watching Kate grow and wrestle with her past adds emotional weight to every case she tackles. Rage is intense, thought-provoking, and a perfect example of why this series continues to stand out in the crowded field of crime fiction.
Thank You NetGalley and the Publisher for this eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

WOW! Another super exciting story revolving around Chief Kate Burkholder and John Tomasetti, this installment brings us face to face with pure unapologetic evil. This book has all the right elements to keep the reader on edge and starts out like a top that keeps the spin spiraling out of control until the very end. This series is an excellent and this newest whodunnit is a definite addition to your TBR list.

Kate Burkholder has two murders on her hands. Both are young Amish men who have died in horrible ways. But why did they die? As Kate tries to put the pieces of the puzzle together she finds herself investigating the worst of people preying on others. It's a fast read, a good read, and I can't wait for the next Burkholder book. Castillo winds her story around a topic that is very much in today's news.
Thanks to Net Galley for the arc.

I look forward to each new installment of Kate Burkholder and Painter's Mill. Linda Castillo does it again with another page turner in this series.
Samuel Yutzy is found dead by 3 amish kids playing hide and seek, the details of his murder are puzzling to Chief Kate Burkholder. Then Samuel's best friend is found dead next in a raven at another Amish farm. The details of this case are almost nonexistent and making it difficult to figure out who would want to harm the men. The case takes unexpected turn after unexpected turn and Kate finds herself in some serious situations. The people that have killed these boys do NOT want Kate to figure out what is going on and will stop at nothing to take her out.
You have to love the dynamic of Kate and her husband, John Tomasetti, and how they work together to solve the case. While you can read any of these books as a stand alone book, it makes it even better if you start from book one and read them all.
Linda Castillo does it again and this is not an easy feat with it being the 17th book in the series and I hope there are many more to come!!
Thank you NetGalley and Minotaur Books for and ARC copy in return for an honest review.

Love, love, love the Kate Burkholder series by Linda Castillo. I have read all of them, and she did it again. . A fun and enjoyable read! I give 5 stars.

I was given an ARC copy of this book in return for a review.
Another good read from Ms. Castillo in the Kate Burkholder series!
Samuel Eicher's body is found after he has been shot and chopped into pieces. Kate and John are on the hunt to discover what happened to Samuel and ultimately his friend Aaron Shetler, who is also murdered later in the story. This one deals with some modern issues and might be a bit dark for some. Pick this one up in July 2025.

Rage by Linda Castillo is a gripping read that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The characters are deeply developed and relatable, and the intricate plot twists left me flying through the pages. The author's storytelling and vivid descriptions drew me into the world she created. Each chapter builds suspense in such a skillful way that I found it hard to put the book down. I appreciated the exploration of complex themes, making it a thought-provoking experience.
If you're looking for a thrilling ride with unforgettable moments, I highly recommend picking up Rage. I can't wait to see what will happen next with Detective Kate and the rest of the characters. A very intriguing and suspenseful read.

Glad to get to read this early. I've read the entire series and this is like the others with Kate getting into some trouble. ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

I loved it! I think I love the town and its surrounding areas and all the residents as much as Kate does. She's an exemplary chief of police and can be relied on to find justice for all victims no matter their walk in life. She's relatable too which helps in her investigations. This was an exciting mystery and let me just say that it's about time a cat stepped in to question who really is the boss.

Kate Burkholder tackles another crime in spectacular fashion! These novels never disappoint and the reveals are always worth the wait. If you are a fan of this long running series, you will love this edition. I think it is great that the crime was tied to some contemporary societal problems in this story. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

Reading Rage, Linda Castillo's newest Kate Burkholder book, was like being with old friends. The circumstances may be new, a different murder(s) mystery, but the town and characters were all familiar. and comfortable. I thoroughly enjoyed reuniting with these characters again and trying to figure out the killer. Leave it to Linda Castillo to throw in a couple of twists and turns. . I highly recommend this book for old and new fans of Linda Castillo. Thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for the advanced copy.

Linda Castillo has done it again with the latest installment in the Kate Burkholder series. We’re back in Painter’s Mill where the body of a young Amish man turns up brutally murdered, and it’s up to our girl Kate to solve it. Kate soon realizes she’s in over her head as pieces of the puzzle start to come out, but nothing is fitting together. What do the Amish, a strip club, and a brewery all have in common? You’ll have to read to find out. This book was a solid 4 star read for me. Quick and easy, it follows the same writing style as all of Castillo’s books. There wasn’t as much refresh on the characters in this book (which I enjoyed), but the plot was so deep and tangled with this one that I felt like it could’ve been longer and certain parts explored more. Overall, if you love mystery/crime books, you can’t go wrong with this one.

Linda Castillo does it again! I discovered the Kate Burkholder series when there were 8 books published in the series and have been reading them as soon as they’re released ever since.
Rage, the 17th installment in this series, was one of my favorites. It starts with some children discovering human body parts while out playing, and the suspense continues to ratchet up as the body count rises. Kate Burkholder, the ex-Amish police chief of Painters Mill; finds herself in some intense situations while investigating a string of murders of young Amish people. There are several suspects and a red herring or two which all make for a fast, thrilling read.
I would highly recommend this book, and this series as a whole, to anyone who loves a pulse-pounding suspense-filled novel that will keep you guessing until the last chapter.

This is maybe the 6th or 7th novel I've read in the author's Kate Burkholder series, and, like the others, this one delivers. Solid story, good characters, interesting backstory, with the whole ex-Amish police chief angle. The author brings this sordid tale to life with descriptive images that I can see and feel. Essentially a police procedural set in Ohio's Amish country, this is highly recommended.
Will I read more from the author? Yes, absolutely.
I received a complimentary copy of the novel from the publisher and NetGalley, and my review is being left freely.

Living in Painter’s Mill would scare me more than any other crime-ridden place. I mean, how much real awful shit can this poor Amish town handle? But somehow, Kate Burkholder manages to escape another near-death experience. I thought she was a goner in this one (like I usually do). I love Linda’s books so much. She pulls no punches and really gets dark and I love it!
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC!

From the very first page, Rage completely pulled me in. The pacing, the atmosphere, and the raw intensity of the story had me glued to my seat, flipping pages late into the night. Linda Castillo has once again proven her brilliance when it comes to crafting suspenseful, emotionally charged thrillers.
The twists in this book—wow. Just when I thought I had things figured out, something would happen that left me absolutely speechless. It’s been a long time since a thriller caught me off guard like this one did. Each revelation hit hard, and I loved every minute of it.
What stood out the most for me was how the story balanced heart-pounding suspense with emotional depth. The characters felt so real, their struggles and motivations raw and believable. And the ending? Utterly satisfying. It tied everything together in a way that left me not only content but genuinely happy with how it all wrapped up.
Without a doubt, this is a 5-star read for me. I didn’t even have to think twice about it. If you're looking for a smart, gripping thriller that will keep you thinking long after the final page, Rage is absolutely the one. I’m so glad I read it—highly, highly recommend it!
