A collection of vignettes that offer snapshots into a relationship between a police officer and a blind runaway. This is all about quiet yearning, glimpses of intimacy and banter. The art style is beautiful and nostalgic. A cosy read that I will be re-reading.

I don’t think I loved the writing style but I am loving the art so much! I do have an appreciation for the relationship between the two MCs. It was very cozy almost and light.

Kotteri's Veil is subtitled as Calming Noir and I found that description very fitting.

The story follows a police officer, Aleksander, who stumbles upon a blind heiress on the run named Emma. He offers her a job and his friendship, and from there the manga follows slice-of-life vignettes of their life together. Their dynamic is immediately heart-warming, and the story is light on plot, heavy on cozy atmosphere and the growing domestic feelings between the two.

I loved the unique formatting of this manga - each chapter is cushioned by detailed art of the characters in the artist's signature style oozing in the settings' mid-1950s aesthetics. There are also short prose sections from each of the characters' perspectives. One point is even from the perspective of the tableware watching the leads eat!

I appreciated several small details that Udon brought to the table with this volume. Instead of the standard block script so common in manga, we have a uniquely slanted font that adds a great deal to the offbeat, charming atmosphere of the story.

Overall, Veil is an appealing, vivid full-color manga with great characters and a great sense of style. I highly recommend this for fans of romance manga interested in a slice-of-life or historical read.

Thank you to Udon Entertainment for my ARC provided through Netgalley.

Wow! What a beautiful collection of "snapshots"! This is definitely more of a leisure read where you want to just sit and stare at the beautiful panels and not one that you rush through. I love the longing that we can feel through the pages from both these characters.

personally the style of writing isn't for me, but I absolutely adore the art and the relationship between our leads which is written so tender and awesome🥹

Sweetest story I've read in a while.
Incredibly beautiful illustrations, I'm weeping at how pretty they are. The chemistry between the main characters are witty and cute, also, gorgeous character design! Fashionable, easy-to-read, fun and lighthearted, I could just stare at them forever.

Veil: Volume 1 by Kotteri is a romance manga that is beautifully drawn. The characters are interesting, and the story is engaging.

The manga is about a rich, blind woman who meets a police officer, and he offers her a job answering phones at the police station. Romance blooms between the woman and the police officer as they get to know each other more!

I highly recommend this manga! Thank you, NetGalley and Udon Entertainment, for sending me a copy of Veil: Volume 1! I can't wait to read the second volume!

Thank you, NetGalley and Udon Entertainment, for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A police officer encounters a runaway blind heiress looking for work, and that's where the story begins to unfold.

I honestly didn’t know where the story was going, as I read this with no prior expectations. The story was okay, though not much happened plot-wise. It felt more like glimpses of their relationship with each other. However, I really enjoyed reading their perspectives of one another—it was heartwarming.

The artwork feels like something from a vintage fashion magazine, especially with the detailed wardrobes of each character. I also loved that it was in color, which really brought the artwork to life.

Stunning art style. The narrative is presented as little snapshots into the lives of our main characters. Sweet, romantic, gorgeous.

Thanks to NetGalley and Udon Entertainment for the arc!

Veil is a wonderfully illustrated manga with bits of extra art between these glimpses of story. The characters are fun and interesting, and the art is in full color! It really brings out the fun vibrancy in these little slices of life of each chapter.
Can’t wait to read volume 2!

How does one even go on to describe this magnificent piece of art that is FINALLY being translated? Simply put, it's like a fashion magazine and manga artist decided to have a baby. The result? Beautiful character art and bright vibrant colors and wardrobe worthy fashion. Now onto our main characters, Emma and Aleksander. The manga mainly follows various snapshot into the lives of these two best friends (to be read as soulmates). They are literally the sweetest and most precious of characters and you can quite literally FEEL their love and respect for one another through every action and piece of dialogue. In conclusion, if you weren't a romantic before, this manga will make you yearn for even a smidge of their relationship.

*Huge thank you to NetGalley for an E-Arc of this gem <3

this actually turned out everything i wanted in a manga lmao i had such a bad read yesterday and this book delivered.

a police officer on duty crosses paths with a runaway heiress, and their lives intertwine in the most unexpected and delightful way. this isn’t your typical story where everything unfolds in perfect order—oh no ma'am. every scene is like a little snapshot of their lives, out of sequence, leaving you to piece together their relationship like a heartwarming puzzle. one moment, you’re watching them share a quiet moment, and the next, BAM! a dialogue page hits you with their inner thoughts from a completely different scene. genius.

oh it doesn’t stop there. the dialogue pages? it also include strangers’ perspectives, like you’re eavesdropping on random people who can’t help but notice how much these two care for each other. it's so quirky, it’s clever, and it’s chef’s kiss. the ART? stunning—seriously, every panel could be framed and hung on a wall. the vibe is so sweet, so wholesome. the European style fashion is gorgeous too but i didn't care for it as much lmao. but here is one of the twist in the story:

you don’t even learn their names or ages until the very end, but by then, you’re already hooked. by the time that big reveal rolls around, you’re like, “WAIT THAT'S IT WHAT THE HELL?????????" so what did i do? i immediately started book 2 hahahahaha

huge thanks to Udon Entertainment for giving me the chance to read this gem in exchange for my honest review. And let me tell you, this isn’t just an honest review—it’s a love letter. i can’t wait to snag my own copy because this book deserves a permanent spot on my shelf (and maybe in my heart) ❤️

I've been a fan of Veil for years now, and was thrilled to learn an English translation was being released. This translation did not disappoint - the beauty and lyricism of the story and dialogue has been perfectly captured, and it flows so well with the absolutely gorgeous art. Veil is a masterpiece - no one should miss this series!

Thank you to Udon Entertainment and NetGalley for the ARC.

There’s something very compelling about this. There isn’t much in the way of plot but it’s very comforting. The illustrations remind me of old fashion magazines - very fluid and feminine. Beautiful use of colour. I thought it was sublime!

He is a police officer who was on duty and she is an heiress who ran away from her house. Every little scene is just a snippet and view into their lives and not necessarily in order. You just feel their care for the other. A scene will go by and then there will be a dialogue page of their thoughts from a previous scene. It's neat. The dialogue pages even have points of view from strangers who view them. The art is absolutely gorgeous and it has such a sweetness and happiness about it. And the fashion is so beautiful. You don't know their names or ages till the end but that makes it even more great because by the time you get there you just want even more information about them. I’m so glad it’s been translated to English and I can’t wait to have my own copy. It's in full color too!

Special thanks to NetGalley and Udon Entertainment for sharing this book with me in exchange for my honest review.

I occasionally run into a manga series that blows me away and lives in my head rent-free. That's what reading Veil Vol 1 was like.

Let's talk about the art first of all, because this book is nothing if not artistic. I adore the author's sketchy, subtle style because it fits and adds so much tension and mystery to the story. In between stories, you get a few pages of sketches of our characters in various outfits or poses, and I'll be honest, I sometimes spent a while just admiring how good they are.

The story itself is beautiful and will have you melting at how cute the characters are. She is a blind runaway heiress and he is a rugged police officer who offers her a job at the police station. They slowly grow closer and constantly toe the line between friendship and a bit more.

If you're into wholesome, elegant couples who like to share a good laugh at each other's expense, and graceful artwork that pops off the page, you'll love this one.

I feel like I need a minute...
Am I turning into a manga reader? Becauce damn this was good. The art, the little vignettes, the chemestry...
It might be silly to say that there is a chemistry between two drawn characters that do not move, but it is true. Both main characters just feel so magnetized. He is protective, she loves to touch him.
The art gives me 1950's France feel. I loved to see the portraits and snippets that the author had drawn.
The vignettes themselves gave me all the cute "kick my feet and giggle" feels.

The fashion, the story, the uniqueness - a million stars.

I have seen repost panels of this manga for at least the past two years. I’m so excited to see it get published and translated into English.

This is a different take on a traditional story - rather than giving you everything all at once it gives you the precursor information and then small snipets of their daily life.

I’m obsessed with the coloring and drawing style. The creativity is off the charts, (my fav parts being the convo between the teacups on the table).

I loved the book!!!! Five stars doesn't even cover it.
The illustrations are beautiful, full of color and contrasts, and that combination give a lot of strength to the drawings. Is just wonderful how that convey love, consideration and all the care the characters have for each other.
The illustrations and the way things are put together are really rich, because of the exploration, the angles, again, the contrast of colors and the way the line is worked.
The story takes place over time and their relationship slowly evolves through touches, gestures and speech and it's beautiful to see them in contact with each other and gaining trust.
Furthermore, I love it when we have their inner monologue (and even from the pieces at the cafe). I think it brings a lot to the reader and we get a new perception of what they are going through and thinking.
I saw from the cover that it had a vintage style reminiscent of the 20s and when I opened the book I fell in love and as soon as the story began I knew I would love to love it, it's really wonderful. The book also has illustrations throughout the book that are outside of the story, or that go in that direction later.
It's beautiful and wonderful.
