This was such a deliciously sexy read. They didn't even kiss but the atmosphere was exquisite. The art too is very beautiful and elegant. At first I was dissatisfied with the vignette style - Scenes, as they're referred to in the manga - but at some point I bought into it. Reminds me of 19 Days. It's slice of life in the best way possible. I love the 2 characters as well, their personalities come across strongly. I think it's good for what it set out to be; a low stakes story, with not much of a plot but just a general feeling and setting.

Thanks to NetGalley and the author for granting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
If a classic Julia Roberts movie was just vibes. 10/10

I really enjoyed this cozy manga! I’d been waiting for the translation of Veil for a while so I immediately requested it once I saw it on netgalley.
I’m absolutely in love with the drawings, they’re adorable but so fashionable and coquettish at the same time!
My only complaint is that sometimes I struggled to understand what was going on from one page to the next, but i think that was the intended purpose and I’ll definitely be reading the following volumes.
Thank you to Udon Enterteinment and Netgalley for an early copy, all opinions are my own!

I like the art and I get the concept, but I would love for the snippets to show a coherent story.
Sometimes I get confused because of that but maybe that's a me thing.

Veil 1 is the dazzling debut of Kotteri, an appreciated Japanese illustrator. We will live a new kind of story for the medium, a josei entirely based on the idea of a little tension among a huge amount of cozy segments. We will follow a blind girl meeting a member of the Police Security Department, watching them fall in love with each other and observing their doubts for a life they feel unexpected in a way we can't even imagine. The sensation that something strange is in the air is constantly behind the huge additions to the medium: monologues, artbook-like subdivision of the chapters, arriving at a mix of art deco, parisian ambiences full of vibrant and lifeful people. Little things of common life will assume an epic catharsis as seen in huge pieces of literature as James Joyce novels, with a true strength represented by the beautiness of the single panels, and the character design I find absolutely charming. I am truly curious about the development of Veil, as a fantastic exercise of style so hypnotic that the simpleness of the rest is not important.
[THANK YOU UDON ENTERTAINMENT AND NETGALLEY FOR THE COPY!]
FINAL VERDICT: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This manga is not exactly what I expected from what I heard about it from other manga readers, but it was enjoyable. It’s an artsy kind of manga that’s composed of vignettes with pages of fashion illustrations (which do have a purpose) and is interspersed with written monologues from the leads. I’ll keep reading because it’s something different.

Thank you Udon Entertainment for the drc via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The artwork is beautiful and different from most other manga I've read. The full color definitely adds to the beauty and having the two main characters be the most colorful pieces of each scene makes them stand out even more. I like the light quick interactions/scenes throughout the volume and the way Him and Her interact. It's just very wholesome. I would definitely continue reading to see how their relationship grows and changes.

Very charming book and I enjoyed the interactions between the two MCs.
The illustrations are gorgeous and I love the art style too!

It was short, but the art and story that seems to be going on are beautiful and really good. I greatly enjoyed the story and looking at it.

The art is absolutely beautiful in this. The plot doesn’t have a lot to it but you can really feel the love between the two characters.

This full colour manga is so incredibly chic!!!!!! A blind woman and a policeman have the kind of elegant, flirty friendship, that you would only imagine to exist in classic cinema.

Art Style: I love how the art gives off an old-fashioned, newspaper comic vibe but in manga form. The vivid colors on top of the pale background kept me entertained throughout my read, and the overall aesthetic reminded me of fashion designers sketching new runway pieces. The full-page illustrations are absolutely mesmerizing—some of them feel like they could be turned into posters!
Dialogue: The conversations between the characters were easy to follow, but at times, the speech bubbles were a bit confusing. Since the FMC and MMC often share the same panel, it was sometimes hard to tell who was speaking.
Storytelling: if you’re a reader who enjoys something mundane, easy to read, and perfect for taking your mind off things, Veil might just be the manga for you. There are also some short dialogues of the FL and ML between a couple of scenes which surprised me because I have never seen that in a manga before. However, if you’re looking for deep world-building, this might not be your cup of tea. Each scene or chapter gives us around six pages of glimpses into their daily lives at their job—almost like a collection of moments rather than a structured plot. Their relationship leans towards friendship, though it’s obvious he’s into her. At first, I was taken aback by the lack of a clear storyline since the scenes don’t always feel connected. However, I really enjoyed the short monologues sprinkles in between some of the scenes. The moments we get are so brief that I found myself wishing they were longer and had more depth.

I have been interested in reading Veil for quite a while. I had heard about Emma and Aleksander's relationship, which blurs traditional lines without actually being a romance, and I was intrigued. The first volume of Veil was a bewitching start to a serious and, paired with the beautiful artwork, was a great experience. I especially enjoyed the sketches in between each chapter. Thank you, NetGalley and publishers, for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Told through little snippets of their lives together, Veil follows “him”, a police officer, and “her”, a runaway heiress who also happens to be blind.
Rather than following a straightforward plot line, we instead witness how their relationship progresses through their banter and physical interactions.
Sexy and intimate, yet pure and innocent. Silly and playful, yet pensive and serious.
This manga has some of the most breathtakingly gorgeous artwork, reminding me a mixture of fashion illustrations, croquis sketches, and vintage art.
I can’t wait for this rest of this manga to be published!

Reading Veil is like watching a classic Audrey Hepburn romantic movie. The manga is a multi-media art piece with beautiful prose poems sporadically placed between select chapters. The art and words together were poetry; the gritty backgrounds gave the look of a film tape; and the choice to only color the characters was really well-done. Lending to the movie aesthetic, the chapters are titled "scenes" in Veil and are short, simple snapshots of the couple's life.
I must also note the reason why the volume is 4 stars and not 5: I was a little weirded out by Scene 7. There was a non-consensual kiss not between the leads (it was a female lead and the male lead's sister). Since the two women seem to know each other from the flashbacks shown later, it could be more of a sweet, cultural thing as part of their dynamic? Though the female and male leads seemed surprised, so I may be giving too much benefit of the doubt here.
Despite that chapter, I look forward to reading the next volume and seeing where the relationship between a blind runaway rich heiress and police officer goes!

Couldn't finish. There wasn't enough going on for me to care about the characters, and while the stylish art could be intriguing, it could as often be overly simplistic. The two-color scheme (which two colors changed per very short chapter) was striking, but the hats made me keep thinking of 80s Soviets.

I loved this so much! It was adorable how they met and became so important to each other's lives. The art was stunning! I really enjoyed this book a lot!

I'm not going to lie, this book was a VERY easy read, however the storyline jumped around a lot and truly proved hard for me to follow. It seemed there was some flirting, but the relationship between the two main characters was not well defined and left me slightly confused. Also, did she work at the office? Does she live with him? I feel like there were potentially better ways to show the story/tell it so that it would have been less confusing, but either way, it was still enjoyable.

A manga where the romance is so subtle and so beautiful, it's a story for those who love a classic boy meets girl trope, where the two come from very different worlds and fate brings them together frequently until a connection is formed.
It's a good story to just flow and the illustrations have been so great, I already want to read the next volume.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with this ARC.

I love stories like this. It's the classic boy meets girl story, where they fall into a quiet comfortability with each other. Each little chapter is a snippet into their lives together, and it's very cozy. I look forward to reading the next volume of the series.
