To know Abby Jimenez’s characters is to love them and Charlotte and Seth are the newest to join that list. The Fall Risk is an Amazon original Valentine’s meet-cute novella about two neighbors who are forced to spend the weekend together when the stairs to their apartment are accidentally removed.

The short but sweet story is a tale of overcoming fears, healing, learning to trust, learning to love again, and empowerment. Charlotte has been on the run from a crazed stalker, and Seth is moving on from a failed marriage. Though they could have stayed in their own separate apartments and binged netflix all weekend, they decide to band together, especially when one neighbor has coffee and the other does not. Seth is a sensitive and kind man, who takes extra care to make sure that Charlotte is comfortable.

They hang out on the veranda between their apartments and as the weekend unfolds, it’s impossible not to fall in love with the two of them! They get visits and deliveries from their best friends, and they have a visit from a busload of ladies from the retirement home who are missing their weekly visit with Seth- and they were hilarious! Their story was a quick one, but it was an enjoyable read that you can easily finish in one sitting.

*The Fall Risk* by Abby Jimenez is such a heartwarming and emotional read. The story follows a woman named Tate who’s trying to deal with the aftermath of a health scare and find some balance in her life. Enter Dr. Sebastian, the charming but stubborn doctor who’s determined to help her.

The chemistry between Tate and Sebastian is amazing, and the book does such a great job of blending humor, romance, and some really deep emotional moments. If you love books that make you laugh, cry, and everything in between, this one’s totally worth picking up!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this ebook in exchange for my honest opinions!

A novella is hard to get right. When you have less than 100 pages, you have to capture your reader immediately and you just have less time to build your story. But leave It to Abby to always get It right! Seth and Charlotte were quirky and unique, i loved them instantly. It was kind of random from the missing stairs causing forced proximity and my 8 packed, tree hugging, cousin humping divorcee, but It worked. Definitely some trigger warnings with the main character having a stalker. A very quick, easy read that wet my palate for Say You’ll Remember Me in April!

Delightful short story with adorable characters

Seth and Charlotte are stuck in their apartments over the weekend, so they utilize their shared open entryway to keep each other company. Simple, right? But there's nothing simple about this situation, once we get to know both of them and the trials they're currently facing.

This is my first read by this author, and I have to say I can see why her books are so popular. These characters are instantly relatable, charming without being cloying, and are dealing with real-world troubles in an honest, straightforward manner. Their playful banter is very sweet and shows their inner goodness in addition to their shared sense of humor, and the seamlessly integrated informative dialogue packs a full-length story into just 80 pages.

I really loved Gabe and Izzy, the best friends who also strike up a romance, almost as much as I loved the main characters. Seeing the two relationships side-by-side really adds depth to the overall story and made all four characters infinitely unforgettable. We also get a bit of philosophical insight and strong social commentary that adds a wonderful foundation to their HEA.

If you're looking for a short, sweet, and clean romance, this is your cup of tea. It's absolutely perfect on every point. I reviewed an ARC of this book.

I will never look at Redwoods the same. This was adorable. The banter, the humor, the empowerment, the friendships—how in the world did Abby pack so much goodness into 80-something pages? It has officially become one of my new favorite short stories.

Things I Loved:
• The Premise - What a unique meet-cute.
• Charlotte - “[…] a bigger force to be reckoned with than she gave herself credit for.” One word, badass.
• Seth - “Trunk strength is very important in my line of work.” “Tree puns. Of course.” So. Damn. Thoughtful. And. Swoony. The oasis… I melted.
• The Side Characters - Izzy, Gabe, John, the Girls, all of them were winners. The little side romance was also quite entertaining.
• The Depth and Balance - Although this is a short story, it’s packed with some heavy stuff that’s balanced out beautifully by comical and sweet situations and dialogue.
• The Realness of It - Abby really worked her magic here and made this feel so real that for the 90 minutes it took to read, I was fully engrossed and invested.

I’m honestly sad this is over. Can we get a part two? Or bonus scenes? I’ll even take a leisurely fictional stroll through IKEA at this point.

This story plot is character driven and they are SO lovable.. This might be the cutest short story/novella I’ve ever read. The messaging and how strong the FMC was is so well done and this is done in 82 pages. Loved it.

This was such a cute novella! It’s so impressive how Abby is able to build a connection with the characters in so few chapters!

This was my first book by Abby Jimenez, and it was a great introduction to her writing! I absolutely loved Charlotte and Seth—their dynamic was engaging, and their story kept me hooked. Izzy was another standout for me; her bold, bass-ass personality was such a great contrast to Charlotte’s softer nature. It was refreshing to see such a strong female friendship where both women balanced each other out—Izzy was tough where Charlotte was soft, and vice versa.

One of the things I really appreciated about this novella was how it tackled the serious issue of unwanted male attention and stalking. Unfortunately, this is a reality many women face, and often, stalkers aren’t punished until it’s too late. Abby Jimenez handled this scary topic with care and realism, making Charlotte’s journey all the more powerful. It was incredible to see the strength Charlotte developed in facing her stalker, and equally inspiring to watch Izzy, such a tough character, learn to be soft with those she loves.

Overall, The Fall List was a fantastic read and a strong introduction to Abby Jimenez’s work. I’m looking forward to reading more from her in the future!

I loved this book! I don’t normally read Rom-Coms but this story has me rethinking things. Cute, funny, a bit of suspense, loveable characters……all you could ask for was for it to be longer. So good!!

Abby Jimenez never misses! Her stories and characters are some of my all-time favorites. I love the complexity and realness of her stories, even in this novella she was able to bring a level of depth that is very relatable through talking about trauma. I love Charlotte & Seth. As always, I can’t wait to read more.

Book Review: The Fall Risk by Abby Jimenez

Abby Jimenez has done it again! The Fall Risk was such a fun, fast-paced, and addictive read. I seriously could not put it down. Her characters always feel so real and layered, and these two? Ugh, I loved them. The romance was everything, so much tension, great banter, and the kind of chemistry that makes you want to scream into a pillow.

I also thought the stalker storyline was super well done! It added just the right amount of suspense without taking away from the romance, and honestly, it kept me on the edge of my seat. Abby always finds the perfect balance between humor, heart, and drama, and she totally nailed it here.

Huge thank you to NetGalley for the copy! I loved every second of this book, and I’m giving it a well-deserved 5/5 stars. If you’re a romance lover, you NEED to read this one!

Abby Jimenez is an autobuy author for me, so I assumed I was going to love this and I absolutely did. My only complaint is I wish it was longer! The banter between the best friends, the MMC and FMC, and the ending was all perfect. I absolutely love it and bought the audio as well!

Abby Jimenez always knocks it out of the park with everything she writes. I loved how she handled a serious topic while still making it heartwarming. This short story was super cute. It's amazing how she develops such great chemistry between the characters in just a few pages! The MMC was the greenest flag, and the FMC was strong and capable. The friend group was very wholesome, and I was so invested in the secondary couple as well. I could easily read a full novel about both couples in this story.

⭐️ 5/5

Abby Jimenez delivers stellar romances TIME 👏🏼 AFTER 👏🏼 TIME!! Whether it's a full length novel that makes me laugh and rips me apart or a novella that has me kicking my feet and giggling for all less than 100 pages, Abby hits it out of the park every time!

I was obsessed with arborist Seth and bear spray-dependent Charlotte right from the start. Their precarious situation was so out of left-field and I couldn’t get enough. I was equally obsessed with their best friends and their instant connection.

I loved how much depth there was to Seth and Charlotte and how well we got to know them in the number of pages we were given. This is such a testament to Abby and her writing! I could read a full length novel about these two. I truly loved everything about this story.

⚠️ I will say, this novella did have my heart pumping and not for the typical reasons. Charlotte has a stalker who is in fact out to get her, so if this isn’t something you’re cool with, definitely proceed with caution.

This novella was absolutely perfect for Valentine’s Day! I love to see my favorite authors publish this type of content every now and again. It is such a breath of fresh air to sneak in when you might be in need of a palette cleanser!

If you’re looking for more short-form Abby Jimenez, don’t miss Worst Wingman Ever, also available on Kindle Unlimited. Abby’s first Valentine’s Day novella came out last year, alongside four other novellas in the Improbable Meet Cute series. Definitely worth a read!

I'm a big fan of Abby Jimenez and will happily read anything she writes.

There was a lot to love about this novella. I enjoyed the forced proximity and dynamic between Charlotte and Seth was so, so good. I appreciated the vulnerability and growth shown by Charlotte considering how short the story is. Also, the retirement home ladies were fabulous.

I didn't love the talk about guns, but that's a me thing, and I do understand Jimenez's choice to to include it here.

All in all it's worth a read, especially if you've enjoyed the author's other works.

“‘Listen to me,’ he said, going on unfazed. ‘Do not, and I cannot stress this enough, spend the whole time talking to her about trees.’”

★★★★★

Okay, but please, talk to me about all the trees. I’m here for it. 🌳 “A blink of an eye for a redwood, but timeless for me.”

What an absolutely delightful 82-page story! As always, Abby packs a punch, you’re laughing, sobbing, and wondering how a short story can make you feel so much in such a short span of time.

We have a stalker, a badass Charlotte who is ready to defend herself because the systems meant to protect us are failing (honestly, there’s a much bigger discussion to be had about this), and Seth, a newly divorced MMC who takes losing his stairs for a weekend like a champ. He proves to Charlotte, and to us, that there are men worth choosing over the bear.

"For all the women who choose the bear and all the men who do the work to understand why. May the forest be a little less scary one day."

Abby Jimenez is a MUST buy author for me! I love her longer novels and this novella while shorter still has everything I love about Abby Jimenez books. The characters are all so lovable. The humor timed perfectly to take the sting out of the more serious themes and undertones. I even love the shout outs to Nadia Cakes, get your bag Abby I see you. All in all this was a perfect read for a quick dose of dopamine!
