⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — No Notes, Just Vibes
Lana Ferguson has officially cemented herself as my guilty pleasure go-to. Overruled might just be my favorite of hers yet! Is it a Pulitzer Prize–winning, life-changing novel? No. But is it everything I want in a romance? 100% yes .Did I devour every page with a big grin and zero regrets? Absolutely!!
We’ve got rival lawyers to frenemies to lovers, grumpy vs. sunshine (with the FMC as the grump, which I loved), and a romance that’s both deliciously steamy and deeply emotional. She just gets what makes a romance fun—great banter, sizzling tension, and characters you can’t help but root for.
Highly recommend if you’re in the mood for something that hits all the right spots—no notes, just pure enjoyment. If you love smart banter, sizzling slow burns, and characters with real heart, Overruled is a total must-read.
Thank you NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for the E-ARC in exchange for my honest review!

What really brought this book down for me was the FMC which rarely happens because I support women. But I just found her so unlikable! I think it started when she complained about her divorced parents getting along. She’s a divorce lawyer, she should know how rare and wonderful that is. It’s obviously fiction, but as a lawyer, some of the legal aspects that were wrong bugged me also. You don’t get to make arguments during your questioning. It also was just too spice focused for me, especially right at the beginning. I needed more plot. I did like the MMC and I felt like he was a well written character.

I had the great pleasure of reading Lana Ferguson’s upcoming release Overruled this week and I was so very pleasantly surprised! Her books are always good and I’ve never had a bad time reading one but this one was so much better than I expected! I started it about noon and by 5pm I had finished it!
The book follows Dani & Ezra, two rival divorce lawyers who have started off as l rivals with benefits but quickly morph into something else. Early on it’s very quick to see that Ezra has already fallen for Dani, and hard, and he’s just waiting for her to catch up and realize she feels the same way. Dani however has some issues of her own that she’s going to have to tackle head on before she can admit that maybe it was never actually hatred she felt for Ezra in the first place.
I thought the pace of their relationship throughout the book was good. It didn’t feel too long or too short, and it’s established prior to the start of the novel that they’re already familiar with each other, that we’re just new to their dynamic.
Overall I would give the book a solid 4/5 ⭐️’s and I might now have to go find more smutty little lawyer romances or restart Suits again!
Thank you to @netgalley and @berkleypub for giving me the opportunity to read and review early!

Lana Ferguson knows how to bring the spice and this was no exception. If you love the black cat x golden retriever pairings, this is for you.
Rival and opposing divorce lawyers pack the heat in the bed room and the court room. Dani is the black cat to Ezra’s golden retriever and their banters had me gushing—they’re so cute. Dani took me a bit to win over as she was hard to connect with but I enjoyed her development and growth by the end. The MMC was the perfect sunshine—no notes.
I can’t speak to the accuracy of lawyering since my knowledge stems from Law & Order: SVU, but I thought this was a fun and drama-filled lawyer romcom. I couldn’t wait to see the truths unfold in the story’s divorce trials. The side characters were also a joy to read and I’m glad Ezra’s brother had a redemption moment. Overall, the story wrapped up nicely and the money-hungry bad guys didn’t win. 🙌🏼
Thank you Berkley and NetGalley for the eARC.

Readers, hold on to your hats. Divorce lawyers Danica and Ezra are here and ready to steal your hearts.
Overruled is the exciting new release from author Lana Ferguson. This book is filled with explosive chemistry and witty banter. And the fact that Ezra and Dani were opposing counsel, well that made the tension and will they won't they moments all that more delicious.
Like any good romance novel, Overruled had its fair share of drama. The character insecurities were relatable and the twists kept me on my toes. I loved that the author didn't shy away from the tough moments.
Overruled was an exciting read from beginning to end. This book easily consumed me and nailed the enemies to lovers vibe. If you're looking for a book that's fun, entertaining, and full of steam, you won't want to miss Overruled.

This was entertaining! I wasn’t super attached to the characters, but I had fun with it. There was definitely something missing — maybe more yearning?? But still really liked it. Thank you Berkley for the advanced copy!

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for allowing me to read this ARC. Unfortunately, I do not think this book was for me and I ended up not finishing the story. I enjoy some spice in my reading, however, the amount of spice in the first several chapters without much plot or character building made it hard for me to get into the story and care where the characters were headed. This book ended up not being for me, but I am sure others may enjoy it. Again, thank you for the opportunity.

"Don't you know?" I lean in brushing my lips across hers, smiling. "I've loved you for ages, Dani. I've just been waiting for you to catch up."
Thank you so much to Berkley romance for my gifted digital copy!
This was so much fun to read, I don't think I ever read a romance with courtroom rivals which was actually quite enjoyable. Overruled is a quick, easy to read yet full of complex characters and some intense backstories. I really appreciated how Lana included Court scenes AND made it easy to follow without too much attorney related jargon but the absolute best thing that stood out for me in this book got to be character development! It was top notch making Ezra/ Dani fully fleshed up and relatable.
Ezra and Dani are divorce attorney's who often compete in the cutthroat cases, they are also secretly enemies with benefits . While both Ezra and Dani are both complex in their own way the chemistry between them is off the charts and the banter, dry humor was such a hit. Ezra is burdened by toxic family and Dani by her previous relationship and her childhood. There were definitely some emotionally heavy moments but they are done quite well as Ezra's ridiculously goofy character and Dani's dry humor along with their sneaky sexcapades balances it out all the time. There is drama, there is angst, there is yearning(the MC) and lots of steam along with them. I liked how both of these characters communicated through out and the way they worked together for a common goal towards the end, it was heartwarming.
My teeny qualm is that the FMC made me little frustrated at times because her thoughts felt redundant and so was Ezra's family drama but other than that I really enjoyed the book. I would definitely pick up her older books.

Quick, witty, and spicy is how I'd describe this one. The banter between them is *chef's kiss*
I did want a little more in terms of tension/pining before their relationship started to form and the second act break up felt a bit forced. But overall a good read!

I can always count on Lana Ferguson for a steamy good time. There wasn't a lot of heavy lifting for the plot (though Overruled does deal with some heavier topics) and the spice was just what I was looking for. Ezra was an easy character to fall for, but Dani took me a bit longer to warm up to. Her feelings about her parent's marriage and the end of her previous relationship felt over the top. I wish it hadn't been such a big part of her backstory since it made me frustrated with her and also made the book unnecessarily angsty. The third act breakup felt silly and could have easily been cleared up with a simple discussion. It bothered me that she automatically assumed the worst, but at least Ezra called her out on it and knew he needed (and deserved) more. The ending wrapped up a bit too conveniently with his family and I would have loved a bit more grovel (like always!), but it did make for a satisfying ending.
I mainly listened to the audiobook and that's 100% because of Connor Crais. My ear buds were practically melting at times! Samantha Summers also did an incredible job and I was very impressed by her ability to seamlessly differentiate between inner monologue and actual dialogue. This is something that I have struggled with in the past with audiobooks, and I didn't have any issues this time around. The audiobook isn't completely a duet narration, but Crais always voices Ezra and Summers is always Dani. This made their text messages/banter and the sexy times extra fun. *fans self*
Audiobook Review
Overall 4 stars
Performance 5 stars
Story 3.5 stars
CW: mentions of infertility and infidelity (secondary characters), divorce, forced conservatorship, suicide attempt by a parent resulting in cognitive issues
*I voluntarily read and listened to a review copy of this book*

Overruled is a fast-paced, flirty, and feel-good read—perfect for fans of the enemies-to-lovers trope and steamy, emotionally grounded romance. Ferguson’s smooth writing pairs well with courtroom tension and simmering chemistry, making this one of her standout contemporary titles. Highly recommended!

My favorite trope | Enemies to Lovers!
Two divorce attorneys spar in the courtroom and in the sheets. Their no strings attached relationship reveals Ezra is NOT the arrogant, infuriating man she thought he was rather he's a caring, empathetic, patient partner. The banter is spot-on, chemistry off-the-charts and beneath their facades are deeply rooted emotional traumas that have shaped both of their careers.
Ezra and Dani's dynamic is the soul of this story, delivering steam, romance and a happily ever after. Ferguson never disappoints with her romance novels as they deliver a punch of lust, smart mouths and sexiness.
Thank you, Berkley Publishing Group | Berkley

this book was SO good!! this had so much depth that totally took me by complete surprise. i thought this was just going to be a silly fun romcom, but this had me SO emotional, especially during the last 50%. ezra is sooo sweet and so obsessed with dani and i am obsessed with him!! i really loved reading about both ezra & dani’s family dynamics and feel like it really helped sell this story and make them feel so perfect for each other. i usually don’t love books where the main characters start off by hooking up because i feel like they’re usually lacking in chemistry, but this wasn’t the case for this book and i really found their connection to be believable and enjoyable to read about! i can’t recommend this book enough!!

This isn’t a bad book from what I read. The writing is great, the spice is great, the MMC is great.
I personally struggle with injustice and people winning with lies (as seen in the first case). I also was having a hard time connecting with the FMC.
Just not for me, but I can see it being well loved by many!
* I did not finish this book so am rating based on the fact that I think it would be a good book and well written but also has lots of miscommunication and character traits I dislike. I will not be posting on social media.
Thank you berkley for the arc 🫶🏼

This rom com had a lot more than I anticipated.
Two bedroom buddies are on opposite sides of a contentious divorce proceeding. When it turns into more, both are freaked out by their own baggage, and then even more needs unpacking.
I truly did not expect to like this one as much as I did. I don't want to give more of a synopsis lest I give something away, but there was definitely more to it than I anticipated. There was one big question I think wasn't answered which wasn't answered outright, or I missed that reveal.

Such a cute and light read! The pace was just right, and it was the perfect balance between romantic and funny. Loved both of the man characters, and I always appreciate a dual POV! Can't wait for this to hit the shelves!

4.5 stars
Lana Ferguson knows how to make a tension-filled, steamy romance! I really enjoyed this one. Two rivalling divorce lawyers, who also can’t stop a “benefits” arrangement, find themselves as opposing counsel to a messy divorce. cheating, lies, betrayal, and some crazy family drama make this book an entertaining and engaging read.
I ADORED Ezra. Charming, witty, confident, and able to verbally spar with Dani at any moments notice. Dani is more of a prickly pear, married to her work and a take-no-shit attitude (we love to see it). The tension and banter were OFF THE CHARTS!!! Yes, the prologue starts off strong with a bedroom scene, but there’s a “will they-won’t they” sort’ve vibe throughout the whole book. So good!!
Add this one to your tbr!! It comes out July 1st. Thank you Berkley for the arc!

I have always been sceptical about a book that starts with spice to impress me. Guess there is a first one for all, in this case Overruled did it.
I loved it.
Things I loved:
Rivals/ f*kmates to lovers
banter and flirting
Their understanding
Smart and quick witted lawyer dramas
The whole courtroom scenes and the case
Nate and Vera 😘
I loved their dynamic, lust turning into something more, helping out each other. I loved that there were no miscommunication and they handled whatever was happening as adults. Ezra apart from being good at riling up Dani, is such a sweetheart. He is so supportive and understanding. His love for his mother was too good not to mention.
Dani is someone who will be a role model to her fellows and peers.
I was sceptical about the spice scenes in the PROLOGUE, because I love slow burn. But this one still kept up with all the banter and the tension.
Then I got confused when they got together way too quickly for my liking but the mystery of the case and their cozy domesticity kept me going.
Him saying I loved you from the beginning was bit much, like boy it was lust for all I know. But still that's a line i would love to hear any fictional man say. So I can't complain, not really.
Solid 4 stars.😍

Another great rom com from Lana Ferguson!! This book was so good. Dani and Ezra’s chemistry was *chef’s kiss* and the enemies to lovers theme was brilliant. I also really liked the intrigue surrounding the case as well as the backstory of Ezra’s family. The supporting characters were very funny and a delight to read. Can’t wait for her next book!

A well-paced rivals-to-lovers story with just the right amount of tension and unresolved feelings. Add in some layered family drama, and it made for a satisfying read.
