Thank you Bethany House for the gifted book

The Timeless series is one of my very favorites and I usually start it as soon as I have access to a copy! Although I continue to love this series and highly anticipate the next one, this was my least favorite book in the series. It absolutely could have been due to poor timing as I was craving something a bit lighter than this, but was too excited to wait. I also thought this one just went off the rails a bit with historical accuracy and reminded me of Hydra from Captain America too much.

"Two lifetimes. One destiny. She must risk it all to put a stop to Jack the Ripper."

This was an amazing read! I've loved this series. Book five quickly became a favorite. Frankly, that's how I feel about every Timeless book I've read. For newcomers, this is a Time-Slip series. Each book features women with a unique mark. They live in two different eras until age twenty-five. Then, they must choose their life's path. Kathryn, for instance, exists in 1888 and 1938. In this story, she faces more danger than others.

I see this novel as more than just a time-slip story. It's a thriller, with Jack the Ripper central to the plot. Reading it often made me feel very anxious. Kathryn takes bold risks despite warnings from everyone. I also enjoyed the high stakes in both time periods. The 1938 timeline faced Hitler's looming war and those who supported him. The 1888 timeline focused on the dangers of trying to identify Jack the Ripper and stop him from killing someone important to Kathryn. Meyer masterfully wove the two timelines together. The book was so intense. I kept yelling at it. My kids would jump and ask, "What's wrong, Mom?" I’d sheepishly say I was just reacting to the book.
I've shared very few plot details. You won't want spoilers when you start reading. Don't miss this time-slip novel. It offers Christian themes and deep intrigue. The reading experience was thrilling, just like all the Timeless books.

Who was Jack the Ripper? This unsolved mystery has been a topic for criminologists for over a 100 years. Gabriella Meyer has used this question as a theme for her book “Every Hour Until Then”. The main character, Katheryn Kelly/Voland, is a “time crosser” who moves between 1888 and 1938. In 1888 she is a part of the British Ton when Jack the Ripper murdered 5 women. In 1935 she is an assistant curator at the Smithsonian Institute on loan at the London Museum to help curate an exhibit about Jack the Ripper. As Kathryn crosses between times she tries to determine who Jack the Ripper is/was, how and if the Freemasons figure into the picture, and sees Hitler’s Nazi German at the beginning of World War 2, as well as save the life of her younger sister, who she finds is the last victim of Jack the Ripper.

Ms Meyer does a good job of capturing the characteristics of both British time periods. It was interesting seeing how different places in London changed but yet remained the same over time. I liked the details on London residents carrying personal gas masks as World War 2 started. I appreciate how of the hand of God is acknowledged in this story. Now I want to read the other books in Gabriella Meyer’s time crossers series. Anyone who enjoys the who-dun-it, romance and sci-fi genres will like this book.

I wish to thank Bethany House Publishing for the complimentary eARC of this book as well as selecting me to review this book on NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

With each installment I become a big fan of Gabrielle Meyer.

In this fifth installment we meet Kathryn who like her ancestors has this gift of being able to live between two important times in history, which are 1888 and 1938.

The historical framework that gives the halo of mystery in this story is the chase to catch the infamous Jack the Ripper.

This story is full of suspense as we find out more about Jack's identity and kept me on edge with every decision Kathryn made.

One thing I love about Gabrielle's books is that they are incredibly researched and what she tells you in a way that even if you don't know general history you can easily understand.

I am in love with her pen and this book has left me wanting more.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with access to this ARC.

How? How does Gabrielle Meyer's brain work like this?! She weaves together the past and the future, the historical and the fiction, and the coming of age with the romance all so seamlessly, it always makes for the best reading experiences.

I saw myself in the character of Kathryn. Someone who has a plan and doesn't like to deviate from it. But God has a way of tweaking our plans for His and our good, and as off kilter as it may make us feel, it's always worth it to submit to his plans. I loved how Meyer played this out in Kathryn's character development. She has to realize what plans or ideals have to be disregarded to achieve the best life, even if that's not what she always planned for.

I loved the historical context of dealing with Jack the Ripper and England on the verge of war. I actually had to restrain myself from googling to see what was fact and what was fiction because everything was so intriguing. But I knew the author's note at the end would answer many of my questions and I'm so glad I waited to know that information until after I finished the book.

I say this every time, but I think this maybe my new favorite Timeless book. I was so enamored with it the whole time I was reading.

Thank you Netgalley and Bethany House for the gifted book! I received a complimentary copy of this book, but was not required to leave a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

As a disclaimer, I DNFed this book so my review is based off of what I did read. I was honestly just not hooked by what I did read and really wasn't encouraged to continue.

In 1888, Kathryn Kelly is the oldest daughter of an esteemed London surgeon. In 1938, she is a historian working on a display featuring the crimes of Jack the Ripper … and has recently learned her sister in 1888 will become the Ripper’s last victim.

The beginning of the story had a couple of instances of stating the obvious, but once I got into the story I couldn’t put it down. Kathryn was trying to solve the same mystery in two timelines and it made for compelling reading.

The mystery of Jack the Ripper has never been solved. His killing spree stopped as suddenly as it started, and history has yet to workout why. This, of course, means we’re never quite sure if Kathryn will succeed in her quest in either timeline.

Meyer does an excellent job of developing an imaginative yet believable solution.
Kathryn meets many of the key figures of the day in the 1938 portion of the story, and they represent the disparate views of the growth of Hitler’s Third Reich. One of the benefits of historical fiction is the ability to use the events of yesteryear to speak into the events of today, and Every Hour Until Then draws some subtle yet strong parallels between the rise of Hitler and modern politics.

(I also have The Collector of Burned Books by Roseanna M White on my to-read pile, which I expect to show more parallels. Let’s not forget the old saying about burning books and burning people. As Christians, this should bother us. It should bother us a lot, because destroying books is about destroying ideas and the right to think and live and worship in the way we want.)

While this is a Christian romance, the Christian element isn’t as strong as in some of the earlier books because Kathryn likes to be the one in control. Yes, that means she has a lesson to learn …

Recommended for fans of the Timeless series and historical Christian romance.

Every Hour Until Then is Book five in the Timeless Romance series by Gabrielle Meyer. Kathryn is able to live two lives in Victorian-era London and World War II Washington DC. She wakes up each day in a different time, and must decide before her 25th birthday which time-line to choose. It is a hard choice as in one she has a time crossing mom.

Kathryn is a spunky intelligent determined character and I enjoyed following her through time. The author did a good job showing you the variety of thoughts and opinions of people in both time lines in regards to world events which I found fascinating. The faith thread was nicely done and seamless to the story.

I found this story interesting as there is only a 50-year time difference between the two time lines as it was interesting to see the changes in women’s rights during the time span. Historically this one connects a Jack the Ripper exhibit in 1938 to the actual murders happening in 1888. The story had many twists and turns keeping me guessing until the end.

I always love reading Gabrielle Meyers’s Timeless book, and enjoyed reading Every Hour Until Then. I greatly enjoyed Every Hour Until then and recommend it.

I was given a copy by the publisher and not required to write a positive review.

Every time I start one of Gabrielle Meyer's Timeless books, I'm nervous. I keep thinking that "there's no way she can make this one as good as the others." And each time I'm proven wrong. However, I think this is the first one that made me cry.

This book had my attention from the first page. Anything with Jack the Ripper in it is bound to be riveting. And if you add in some conspiracy theories, well, that makes this tinfoil suit-wearing reader's heart sing.

Not to mention that there's only 50 years separating her two paths! That in and of itself kind of had me on edge.

That's pretty much all I'll say about this book because if you know anything about the Timeless series, these novels are filled with unknowns. So. You know your assignment: read the book.

In a Nutshell: A historical mystery with shades of romance, timeslip, and Christian content. The fifth book of the Timeless series. As always, impeccable plotting, mind-blowing research, amazing interlinking of the two timelines. A couple of things could have worked better for me, but overall, this is fabulous. Much recommended. Can be read as a standalone, but the whole series is brilliant, so you might as well read all the books!

Plot Preview:
Twenty-three-year-old Kathryn lives two lives simultaneously in two different time periods. (Read the earlier Timeless books to know how this works.)
In 1938 London, Kathryn is a guest curator at the Smithsonian Museum, invited to create an exhibit on Jack the Ripper. During her research, she learns that one of her loved ones from her life in 1888 London is destined to be the target of the infamous killer. Now Kathryn is racing against time, using her hindsight knowledge from 1938 to save her relative from certain death in 1888. As a time-crosser, she knows that fiddling with history isn't allowed. But surely she can’t allow someone beloved to be killed so brutally!
The story comes to us from the first-person perspective of Kathryn in both timelines.

2025 hasn’t been a great year for the ongoing series books on my TBR. I read many subsequent books from some of my favourite series, and each of them tanked miserably. But as you can see from my rating, Gabrielle Meyer has lived up to my expectations yet again. (This is not an easy task because my expectations from her books are sky-high.) During a year where everything is going topsy-turvy, whether in my personal life or in the world at large, it is good to know that I can always rely upon her to deliver as promised.

Bookish Yays:
🕰️ The concept. I will never tire of praising this imaginative idea of a character having two bodies but one consciousness across two distinct timelines. So, so clever!
🕰️ Though the basic concept is the same in all Timeless books, each novel has something that makes it stand apart from the rest. This time, the time gap between Kathryn’s two lives is the least so far in the series, with just fifty years separating her two selves. If you know the earlier books, you know why this is a major complication. Plus, both the timelines are in London, offering a nice change from the usual American setting.
🕰️ The medley of genres: historical fiction, timeslip, Christian, mystery, romance. All fitting together perfectly.
🕰️ Unlike the earlier books, this one works almost like a thriller at times because for the first time, an active killer is a part of the Timeless storyline. Many scenes gave ‘The Da Vinci Code’ feels, albeit without the ciphers.
🕰️ Some excellent surprises and twists in both timelines.
🕰️ The plotting. Gabrielle Meyer is a plotter extraordinaire, and every single novel of hers demonstrates this prowess. I simply love the way she brings everything together by the end in a seamless harmony, even though her storylines are so tricky!
🕰️ The two timelines – so disconnected and yet so similar in emotions. With Jack the Ripper in one and the cusp of WWII in the other, both timelines contain enough suspense, danger, and apprehension.
🕰️ The impeccable historical research, with several facts that left me rushing to Google to learn more. Historical fiction is my favourite genre because of such smart books.
🕰️ The pacing: mostly fast and barely any rambling despite two first-person narratives.
🕰️ Just as in Timeless #3, we know right at the start which timeline Kathryn prefers. But this doesn’t make the proceedings boring or predictable as there are certain “complications” in the other timeline. I could still guess where Kathryn would end up, but seeing the hows of it was fun.
🕰️ This book goes back to the original family tree beginning with Libby in Timeless #1. I loved seeing Grace and Luc from Timeless #3 get a good role in this book. (For those who have read the earlier books of the series and are a bit confused about the character interconnections, the author has created this handy family tree on her website: https://gabriellemeyer.com/timeless-family-tree)
🕰️ For the first time, the romance is diluted, with there being none of it in one timeline. The other one has a developing relationship but it is not insta, and it is used to move the main plot ahead instead of superseding the core focus.
🕰️ The Christian elements were totally of my kind, with greater stress on trusting in God and on having heartfelt conversations with Him instead of just tossing in biblical verses at regular intervals.
🕰️ The ending. I am just so impressed at how the author carried it off! It is the best ending so far in the series.
🕰️ The author’s note, detailing her historical research and also clarifying the factual and fictional writing choices she made. As brilliant as always!

Bookish Mixed Bags:
⏱️ The initial quarter or so was a little shaky for me. With there being too much secret-keeping in the older timeline, I felt as frustrated as Kathryn. I was even worried that this book might dip below 4 stars because I dislike the tropes of excessive miscommunication and secrecy. But the reasons for the secret-keeping are justified well in the second half, and the rest of the book is mindblowing.
⏱️ For the first time ever, I was not a big fan of the lead. Kathryn is a strong character, but she is also too wilful and impulsive (and at times, surprisingly naïve for her age). Her character arc feels repetitive after a point as it seemed to constantly loop between her promising that she wouldn’t do something and then doing it. Not every historical lead has to be pliant and submissive and I do understand her emotional conflicts, but I do wish the repetitiveness of Kathryn’s actions and reactions had been avoided.

All in all, my complaints get almost washed out by my enthusiasm for the positives. The second half was so outstanding that I forgot all the complaints I had at the start,
This is one of my favourite series, with four of the five books earning 4.5 stars from me. Initially an annual offering, Timeless has two books coming out in 2025. The sixth book, ‘Through Each Tomorrow’ will be published in November, and I can't wait to get my hands on it! The final chapter of Timeless #5 includes a teeny hint about the central character of the sixth novel, and while I am a bit disappointed that I already know the character’s outcome, I am also very excited to get to know them better. My digital copy did include an excerpt from #6, but as soon as I saw it, I quickly closed my eyes and my Kindle. Excerpts aren’t for me!
Much recommended to historical fiction fans who don’t mind Christian elements. This book can be read as a standalone, but you will get some spoilers about the characters and their timelines in the first four novels. All the Timeless books are wonderful anyway, so just go for the whole series.
4.5 stars, delighted to round up.

My thanks to author Gabrielle Meyer and Bethany House for providing the DRC of “Every Hour Until Then” via NetGalley. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

Once again, Gabrielle Meyer has masterfully delivered a time-slip novel that completely swept me away. From the very first chapter, I was hooked—drawn into a story that dances between two pivotal time periods in London’s history: the late 1800s during the terrifying reign of Jack the Ripper, and the late 1930s as Europe teeters on the brink of WWII. The mystery, suspense, and touch of macabre surrounding the Jack the Ripper storyline gave the plot intrigue, while the alternating timelines kept the pace fresh and exciting, making the story hard to put down!

What stood out to me in this book is what I adore about Meyer's books: the balance between history, romance, and deep, spiritual themes. The threads of faith, especially the reminder that we aren’t in control of our own destiny, resonated with me. The romance was tender and compelling and the characters were wonderful, as always. This story offered a beautiful picture of sacrificial love as well. The time travel element was not only fascinating, but so well done that I had no trouble transitioning between eras. I didn’t want it to end!

Overall, this is a story with rich characters, surprising twists, and a storyline that blends history, mystery, and heart into truly a standout read that I highly recommend!

[Thank you to @netgalley and @bethanyhousefiction for my gifted title in exchange for an honest review.]

You all know how much I love this series. I have loved every Timeless book and am always so impressed at how fresh this series stays with the different time periods and characters. Every Hour Until Then was just as amazing as the four before it, and I’m already so excited for the next two books of the series that have been announced! (Coming fall 2025 and spring 2026.)

Every Hour Until Then is set in both 1888 and 1938, taking place in Victorian-era London and Washington DC in the days of looming WWII. In this story, we meet Kathrine, the daughter of the Volands in the 1930s–remember, we know them from book #3!

The twist to this particular Timeless installment is that, this time, there is a mystery to solve. The mystery? Katherine must uncover the identity of Jack the Ripper before her sister becomes his final victim. The clock is ticking! I don’t want to give too much away, but this aspect of the story was absolutely FASCINATING. These novels are so well-researched, and I always learn new things while completely captivated by the story.

This story kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, and I loved every minute of it. 🙂

Highly recommend!

This is the fifth book in this amazing series and it tells the story of time crosser Kate who is living in 1938 and visiting London right before World War II really gets going, and conversely living in 1888 London where Jack the Ripper is getting started. Her two paths intertwine as she is working on an exhibit in 1938 for Jack the Ripper and also living through the real time events in her other life.

But as she’s researching the event, she realizes her sister in 1888 might be in danger and even one of Jack’s victims. She’s willing to sacrifice her timeline in 1888 if she can save her sister, but this creates a lot of issues with her love interest and childhood friend, Austen.

Kate’s character is incredibly headstrong, essentially throwing herself in danger’s way throughout this entire book. She continuously made me nervous and scared for her as everything unfolds. But I love her commitment and endearment to those close to her. She is always willing to sacrifice for her loves ones. The thing she struggles with the most, is letting others help her and put themselves in danger. But as the story goes on, she starts to learn how to let those closest to her inside her bubble and be there with her.

Kate and Austen were a heart wrenching love story. Austen has known for a long time that he loves Kate, but he refuses to explore those feelings because she made clear a long time that she wouldn’t stay in this timeline. Watching his pain and distress at hiding his love for her was heartbreaking. He’s a gentleman through and through, but he can’t always give into the whims of Kate because he’s trying not to put his heart out there to be trampled.

Both timelines that Kate lives in is filled with treacherous activity and I found it interesting to observe the characters around her in 1938 as the Nazi party in Germany is establishing its position and there are mixed feelings as to whether Hitler is good for Europe or bad. I also enjoyed revisiting characters from the other novels, including Kate’s mom and dad who are from another one of the novels.

A story about sacrifice, love and embracing God’s plan for us, Kate is inspiring and a wonderful reminder of how to listen to that voice inside ourselves and let that plan unfold for us. I love Gabrielle’s books because of these messages throughout her books, I always feel spiritually refreshed and content with how these books conclude.

Another amazing addition to this series and I can’t wait for the next one!

Each one I read becomes my favorite! I love them all, but I especially loved that this one had a bit of a mystery tied with the Jack the Ripper case. I also loved the twist in this one with the time crossing being only fifty years apart. Kathryn is living during the fear of Jack the Ripper’s terror on Whitechapel and someone dear to her is in his crosshairs unless Kathryn goes against the rules she has been taught concerning changing history. In her other time, she has been called to assist with putting together a Jack the Ripper exhibit in London, meanwhile the Nazi’s have gained control and war is starting to spread across Europe. Will what she finds in 1938 help her to decide what to do in 1888 and what about what her heart wants? This storyline was just so good and I absolutely loved Austen! Thank you to the author and publisher for the complementary novel and for graciously allowing me to be a part of the launch team. This review is of my own opinion and accord.

I loved this book! Gabrielle Meyer’s Timeless series just keeps getting better and better. The race to save her sister from Jack the Ripper was gripping, and the twist near the end took me by surprise. And I was in tears by the final pages.. So good! I absolutely can't wait for the next installment.

Every Hour Until Then by Gabrielle Meyer held my attention from the beginning. There were lots of plot twists, in part because it was centered around the heinous murders by Jack the Ripper and the protagonista’s quest to uncover his true identity. I learned a lot about this sad murder spree. The story included some conspiracy ideas and leaned into one particular theory. I felt all the suspense and surprise at Jack’s (fictional) identity. I appreciated the author’s note which clarified certain fictional elements.

Aside from the mystery and danger, Every Hour Until Then held a friends-to-lovers romance. Because Kathryn and Austen were childhood friends, they had issues to overcome but a shared history that bound them together. I loved it even though the romance thread felt secondary to Kathryn’s pursuit of Jack the Ripper and her beloved sister’s safety.

Every Hour Until Then by Gabrielle Meyer stands as book five in the Timeless series and I felt it was a richer read because I had read the prior books in the series. It might not be my absolute favorite of them all, but it was very good. 4.5 Stars!

Every Hour Until Then, the newest addition to the Timeless series, delivers a riveting and imaginative exploration of the Jack the Ripper story. Throughout the narrative, I was on the edge of my seat, captivated by Gabrielle's ingenious plot reveals. I loved how the author seamlessly integrates the theme of God's power and His perfect and loving nature. I can’t wait for the next book in this fantastic series.

Every Hour Until then is the 5th installment in the Timeless series and honestly I feel like a broken record at this point, because how are they all still so unique, unpredictable and addictive?!

This one takes our time traveling main character from the heightened fear of pre WW2 to the gritty streets of London where Jack the Ripper is on the prowl.

I loved how even when I thought I knew where the story was headed it still took me by surprise. I was immersed in the historic detail of each time period and really enjoyed the new and old characters. I loved how Kathryn’s two timelines were so intricately woven together to create a full cohesive story!

The underlying mystery was well crafted and the romance in this one was so tender and sweet and 100% did NOT disappoint, I loved every moment they had together and that first kiss deserves a 5 star alone. There are also many faith filled moments that feel organic and give the story heartfelt emotion.

I am just the happiest reader when it comes to these books and I cannot wait for the upcoming story headed our way this fall.

Every Hour Until Then is another incredible installment in Gabrielle Meyer's Timeless series. I loved it, and I am continually impressed by the caliber of stories Gabrielle produces. She sets the bar high with every single book, then surpasses it every single time.

Gabrielle Meyer is a master storyteller, and her meticulous research and attention to detail never ceases to amaze me.

Jack the Ripper has always been fascinating to me, so I was excited to see what Gabrielle would do with the infamous villain, and she did not disappoint. Every Hour Until Then is immersive and descriptive and transports you into the heart of 1888 London and the serial killer who's shadow loomed over the entire city.

Kathryn was a great FMC, and seeing her grow and adapt was wonderful. She is inquisitive and intelligent and willing to do whatever it takes to protect the people closest to her. Watching her work to save her sister was exciting and intriguing, and it was fascinating to watch her unravel the threads of one of the world's most well-known mysteries.

Austen, Kathryn's love interest, was so, so sweet, the perfect soft MMC to foil Kathryn who was often stubborn and headstrong. The way he cared so deeply for Kathryn was touching and romantic, and I loved every moment of their romance.

The theory behind Jack the Ripper's identity and all the moving parts required to keep him hidden were fascinating, and I was enthralled with the way Gabrielle chose to piece together the mystery. The twists were twisty, and, as with all of Gabrielle's books, I thought I knew where everything was headed until I very much did not, which is always a fantastic surprise.

Overall, this an intense story with some sweet romantic moments. As always, I enjoyed seeing characters from past books and knowing how they changed and grew and how their lives ended up. I'm so looking forward to the next book in the series.

Notes:
Genre: Christian Romance/Time Travel/Historical Romance
Romance: Just kisses
Language: None
Violence: Moderate
Content Warnings: This book focuses a lot on Jack the Ripper and his crimes. The crime scenes and descriptions of his murders are detailed and fairly graphic.
