Nothing Ever Happens Here- by Seraphina Nova Glass
4.5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was the first book I have ever read by this author, and I was not disappointed! This is a multi POV book about a group of friends who try and solve a mystery together. Shelby and MacKenzie (Mac) are best friends who are both struck by tragedy on the same night. Shelby is attacked and left for dead in Mac's restaurant, and the same night Mac's husband Leo disappears without a trace with no explanation as to why.

Several months later Shelby and Mac are finally starting to find a new normal, when or if nowhere Shelby's attacker resurfaces and starts taunting her. At the same time Mac is wondering if she never knew her husband at all as new unsettling information is uncovered about his financial habits.

During all of this a concerned group of senior citizens takes it upon themselves to start a podcast to try and solve these mysteries in their small town, and they end up going viral in the process!

This author throws in several interesting twists in turns in this book with a final plot twist I didn't see coming, which is really great! I'll definitely be recommending this book to my thriller/mystery loving friends!

This was an average thriller. It kept me hooked and wanting more, but the ending was nothing special.

I never expected this book to be so funny! Florence and the other residents at The Oleanders' senior living facility (where Shelby works) become amateur sleuths and start a podcast to investigate mysterious events in their town. I felt like the portrayal of the "gossipy seniors" was spot on.

The thriller aspect and Shelby's story were well done. There were so many surprises and twists that I was guessing until the very end.

𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘏𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦 is the perfect book for you if you like thrillers, especially ones with a little bit of humor 😉

I'm this wintry audiobook, Shelby Dawson survived an attack that should have killed her. Fifteen months later, she’s rebuilding her life—until a note appears with the same threat her attacker made. Suddenly, she’s back in a nightmare that won’t let go. As strange accidents pile up and new evidence resurfaces, Shelby starts asking the same question as everyone else: Who attacked her that night? And what really happened to her best friend’s missing husband?

Going in, I expected a pulse-pounding thriller based on the style of cover, but what I got was something different—slower, cozier, and unexpectedly funny in places. The senior citizens who accidentally make Shelby’s case go viral were my favorite part. Their banter had the charm of a small-town sitcom, but their involvement in the mystery was surprisingly crucial. It gave the book a unique balance between dark suspense and lighthearted mischief, and I enjoyed hearing how the audiobook narrator made every member come to life.

That said, the pacing leans toward a slow burn, which might not work for readers expecting nonstop tension. The story takes its time unraveling, but if you enjoy mysteries that feel like a mix of Only Murders in the Building and small-town drama, this one might be for you.

Overall, this was a mystery that subverts expectations—less high-octane thriller, more small-town suspense with an endearing (and meddling) supporting cast. If you like your mysteries with a touch of cozy and a dash of dark humor, you’ll enjoy this one.

I thoroughly enjoyed both the audiobook and physical copy of this book. The author's writing was rich, well-structured, and kept me hooked from start to finish. Florence and her crime podcast crew, along with the other side characters, were a highlight for me. While I was fully engaged throughout, I did find some of the ending details a bit far-fetched. Overall, I loved the book and I'm excited to read more from this author in the future.

I loved the characters in this novel. Whenever senior citizens get together to solve a crime, it's always a hoot. It just reminds me of my granny and her friends gossiping while playing cards. Except the seniors in this story really get involved to solve the case. I do get a little frustrated when characters complain about how the police aren't doing anything to solve the case, but they are holding onto crucial evidence that could help them. Also how many people can get hit in the head one time and "the world goes black" then they wake up and are able to think and act clearly? Overall, this was a fun read with some dark themes. The seniors made me want to keep listening to see what they would uncover next. The narrators were great, and kept me listening.

Nothing Ever Happens Here by Seraphina Nova Glass

A very BIG thank you to #NetGalley and Harlequin Audio for sending me this ALC in exchange for my honest review.

About the book: The starts of with character Shelby Dawson surviving a gruesome attack that should have left her dead, but she somehow how survived it. She tries to move on with her life and get past horrible thoughts of that night.
Over a year later, Shelby is starting to feel safe again with the help of her bff Mackenzie, in her little Minnesota home town.
One night though Shelby finds a note on her windshield, and written on the note are the same threats her attacker made, and Shelby realizes her nightmare is back!
As new evidence comes to light, a groups of older adults, who are trying to help, accidentally make the case go viral. The situation quickly gets worse and worse. suspicious actions keep happening to those closest to Shelby. Shelby feels like she is constantly being watched and she tries to stay one step ahead all the time. Everyone wants to know who attacked her that night?
Mackenzie also has questions about the night Shelby was attacked. That very same night Mackenzie’s husband disappeared, and over a year later there are still no answers as to why. Mackenzie decides to dig deeper into his finances and finds he has a large history of debt, and hidden accounts. One account is still active and has even very recently been used. So is Leo still alive?
After another person close to Shelby goes missing, she realizes that she must find out who her attacker is before it’s too late!

What I thought: For me the story started off very strong. Shelby is attacked at work and left for dead. It was very gripping. But then the story had parts that kind of lost me or I didn’t feel like fit. The senior citizens and the podcast parts, I kind of felt were kind of “silly” for the story. Like the story is supposed to be a thriller/mystery but that part of the story didn’t feel like way. It was hard to take them seriously. The story did pick back up in the second half, and I did enjoy the twists along the way. I didn’t guess the attacker before they were revealed, so that did surprise me. This story is told from different POV and this audiobook had a full cast, so I thought that really helped bring the story to life. Overall, I enjoyed this book. It kept my attention, and I’ll definitely be looking into reading more by this author! I am rating this book 3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2

Brittany Pressley, Stacey Glemboski, and Petrea Burchard all did amazing job narrating this story and helping bring it to life!

3.5 stars rounded up. Nothing Ever Happens Here was a pretty solid read! It hooked me right away with this super intense and emotional story about Shelby Dawson, who’s trying to rebuild her life after surviving a terrifying attack. The audiobook narrator? Amazing. But I’m not gonna lie—there were so many characters that I kept losing track of who was who (especially while listening).
The beginning was hands-down my favorite part—it had me glued to the story. The middle, though? It slowed down quite a bit, especially with the senior citizen podcast gang. BUT, some of their banter legit made me laugh out loud, so I didn’t mind it too much. And don’t worry—the pace picks back up toward the end, and it all wraps up in a fun, satisfying way. Also, Shelby’s inner dialogue? Loved it. She felt so real and relatable.
If you’re into thrillers but don’t want anything too scary, I’d totally recommend this one. It’s got suspense, humor, and plenty of twists to keep things interesting!

🎧 Narrator: Brittany Pressley, Stacey Glemboski, Petrea Burchard🎧

This was an enjoyable, fast paced thriller! Told from three POV and with multiple mysteries happening at once, I was constantly guessing who did what and who could be trusted.

Best friends Shelby and Mackenzie have both endured a lot. Shelby was attacked and nearly died. Mackenzie’s husband went missing the same night. Fifteen months later anonymous threats are being placed and people are disappearing, or worse.

The absolute best part of this book was the sleuthing senior citizens. They live in a senior community but they are still living life to the fullest! They decide to use their podcast as a tool to help solve these mysteries. I love representation of older characters in books, and in a thriller it was absolutely amazing.

🎧 I read this one exclusively with my ears and thought it was fantastic! Definitely recommend this format if you’re an audiobook lover.

This was my first experience with Seraphina Nova Glass, and it was a stellar introduction to her work. The novel kicks off with relentless suspense that never lets up. This was masterfully coupled with a multiple POV narrative set within a singular timeline, creating a continuous, fluid flow that perfectly complements the dark, twisty, and chilling vibes captured flawlessly by the narrators.

A standout element is the whodunit mystery: every time I thought I had identified the villain, the story skillfully sent me back to square one, making it feel like a thrilling game of "Guess Who." In the same respect, while the story is richly layered with a diverse cast—all of whom have excellent depth—I sometimes struggled to connect with the secondary characters due to their sheer number, which made it hard to recall who was who. Overall, despite this minor drawback, the elaborate twists, eyebrow-raising shockers, and nail-biting tension made for an engaging and memorable read.

** Please also note that I posted my above review on Amazon as well, but the review has not gone live on their site yet.

If you love thrillers packed with shocking moments, close calls, and small-town secrets, Nothing Ever Happens Here is a must-read. Set in a snowy Minnesota town, this book delivers twist after twist, keeping you on edge every few chapters.

The multiple POVs make for an engaging read, allowing different perspectives to unravel the town’s icy threats and long-buried secrets. The characters are well-developed, with unexpected heroes emerging in surprising ways. Glass also weaves in a sly sense of humor, adding a layer of wit to the suspense.

The audiobook narration by Brittany Pressley, Stacey Glemboski, and Petrea Burchard is fantastic. Each narrator brings depth to their characters, enhancing the tension and making the multiple perspectives feel distinct and immersive.

Fast-paced, full of twists, and brimming with atmosphere, Nothing Ever Happens Here is a thriller that proves plenty does happen—even in the quietest of places.

This is a pretty typical snowy thriller but it has a fun addition of an assisted living facility and elderly residents who intervene a little too much for their own good. The huge cast of characters can be a bit much and I think it took away from the focus of the novel at some points but they were so fun you can't help but enjoy them. It has an interesting plot and there are a lot of possible antagonists that the book presents as potential villains. It is heavy on atmosphere with the snowy setting. The narration of this book was pretty good, but I don't think it adds anything you can't get from reading the print.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the advance audiobook copy of Nothing Ever Happens Here by Seraphina Nova Glass. As a fan of her work, I was excited to dive into her latest novel. The audiobook did a great job of guiding the listener through the three POVs of three women in Minnesota, and the narrator kept me engaged throughout.

From the start, I was hooked by the plot and couldn’t stop listening. As with all of Seraphina’s books, the mystery revolves around figuring out who did it, which kept me intrigued. However, the pacing felt drawn out—I found myself thinking the book could have been two hours shorter. The ending was also a bit over the top for my taste, which ultimately made this a solid 4-star read for me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5 Stars (Good)
Setting: Snowy Minnesota Town
Genre: Thriller

Nothing Ever Happens Here has an intriguing premise, blending a small-town atmosphere with intertwining mysteries surrounding Shelby’s attack and Leo’s disappearance. However, the storytelling falls short. The excessive number of characters makes it difficult to stay engaged, and the slow pacing weakens the suspense. Additionally, the overuse of profanity feels unnecessary and detracts from the narrative. While the narration isn’t terrible, it doesn’t do much to elevate the material.

Despite its flaws, the novel may still appeal to readers who enjoy atmospheric thrillers with a gradual build-up. However, those seeking a gripping, fast-paced mystery with a tight plot may find it underwhelming. #netgalley #nothingeverhappenshere

i wanted to like this SO BAD but it just gave me nothing sadly 💔

for the positives, i loved the whole gang of senior citizens and their dynamics were really fun and cute. i listened to the first ~70% of this on audio and the audio was very well done and pretty captivating! enough for me to want to continue

however, it felt difficult to connect with the story and other characters early on since the book literally just jumps right in, and usually that’s a good thing in thrillers, but in this one it just left me feeling slightly unmoored the entire time

plot wise, it took ages for things to start happening, and the possibilities for how it could wrap up felt pretty limited. i honestly thought the book felt like it dragged out way too long, but then somehow the book is only 300 pgs?

just not my favorite unfortunately i think i wanted MORE

A tale of twists and turns with multiple POVs and a motley crew of old folks to solve it. A semi-climatic ending, but still a good thriller for a long road trip.

This is my first book by this author. I liked the characters. The nursing home gang was one of my favorite parts of the book. I thought the thriller part of the book was just meh. But still enjoyed the listen.

Loved the narrator!!!

This author has seriously never let me down since the very first book I read from her! (Which if you're curious was vacancy in room 10)

There is something about the way she leaves the story just right. I get attached to characters, I chuckle, I lose characters, I cry, I feel relaxed and then my heart rate EXPLODES!

I love the characters in this story! The gang?! I can envision myself being Florence when I get older. They are this rag tag group of older - NOT OLD- people that all live together in a senior living facility. They are sassy, snacking, brutally honest besties who have no fear telling you to act right while going and saying the most out of pocket thing you could think of.

I loved the relationship with mack & Shelby too! Best friends till the end! (And even then I'm finding you after)

This is one of the few books where I figured out the who but I still didn't know the whole story until it was revealed and I loved that!

This has taken the top spot for my books by Ms Seraphina!

Shelby was attacked but survived and with the help of her friend Mackenzie, is finding a way to move forward with her life and feel safe again. But when she is left a note with the same threats her attacker made, she is throw right back into her nightmare.

Mackenzie has her own mystery since her husband has vanished without a trace on the same night as Shelby's attack. With no idea if he is dead or alive, she deep dives into his finances and phone records, she starts to uncover secrets about him she didn't know. When she starts to suspect that he might be alive, things only get more complicated.

I have mixed feelings on this one. I liked it and kept listening, but at about 54% I was ready to DNF. I saw some other reviews that said the second half brought it back for them, so I continued on. Things picked up more in the second half, but I still just ended up feeling so-so about it.

Thank you NetGalley and Harlequin Audio for the audiobook for review.

Nothing Ever Happens Here was definitely an enjoyable and suspenseful listen. And I definitely believe that most people will be thoroughly disappointed if they didn't at least give this book a shot.

I really enjoy the way that Serahpina Nova Glass weaves multiple storylines and points of view together. I think there is a fine art in doing that in a way that doesn't out right give key details away and at the same let the reader/listener key in on certain aspects of a character's nature along the development of the story. I think that it is challenging to do this style of writing well, and I think that this book demonstrates that she is quite adept at what she does (at least in the two novels I have had the chance of experiencing).

The only reason that this book does not get a full 5 stars from me, is for two reasons. One; as I was nearing toward the end of the book, I began to suspect who the "bad guy" really was, and for me, that knocks off half a star-usually. Two; this book was a little difficult for me to get through, and with the combo of number one, I would probably honestly rate this as a 4.5, but because no system seems to rate with half stars, I bumped this down to 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐.

This book is for you if you:
✔Like multiple points of view
✔Multiple narrators
✔Like a good story and character development in your thriller/suspense
✔Want to keep guessing who has done what
✔Small-town vibe in a story

Probably not for you:
❌if you don't like thrillers/suspense
❌You don't like first person/multiple points of view

I really enjoy this author, and I plan on adding more of their work to my TBR/L list.
