Seraphina Nova Glass’s Nothing Ever Happens Here is a gripping and atmospheric thriller that keeps readers hooked from the very first page. Known for her knack for crafting suspenseful, character-driven stories, Glass once again delivers a tale that balances psychological depth with fast-paced tension.

The novel centers around a seemingly quiet town where life appears predictable — until it isn’t. As unexpected events begin to unfold, the line between safety and danger blurs, and the characters find themselves caught in a web of secrets and suspicion. Glass expertly builds this sense of unease, making the town itself feel like a character, filled with hidden tensions and unspoken fears.

One of the book’s greatest strengths is its character development. Glass creates protagonists who feel real and relatable, each dealing with their own struggles and desires. As their lives intersect, the emotional stakes rise, and the reader becomes deeply invested in their fates. The dialogue is sharp and authentic, and the shifting perspectives add layers to the story’s complexity.

The pacing is spot on — the novel never drags, but it also allows enough space for moments of reflection and character growth. Twists and revelations are well-timed, keeping readers guessing without feeling contrived. Glass’s prose is clear and evocative, painting vivid scenes that heighten the sense of suspense.

Nothing Ever Happens Here is more than just a mystery — it’s a thoughtful exploration of trust, fear, and the masks people wear. Seraphina Nova Glass has once again proven her skill in blending emotional storytelling with thrilling plotlines, making this novel a must-read for fans of domestic suspense and psychological thrillers.

NOTHING EVER HAPPENS HERE was my first book by this author. My friend recommended her books to me, so I started with this one!

This book started off with a bang. I was hooked from the very first page. There was so much mystery and intrigue -- and it felt like early on that the characters were hiding something.

I'm really glad I listened to the audiobook. There were some parts in the story that started to drag for me, but the audio kept pulling me back!

This one had a strong setup — creepy notes, small-town secrets, and a past attack that won’t stay buried? I was all in at the beginning. Shelby’s paranoia felt real, and the snowy Minnesota setting added that perfect touch of isolation and dread. Plus, the group of nosy (and accidentally helpful) seniors going viral was a fun twist I didn’t see coming.

That said, the middle of the book dragged more than I expected. Some scenes felt repetitive, and the tension kind of dipped when it should’ve been climbing. I found myself wanting to skip ahead to get back to the action.

Still, the mystery kept me curious, and the layers of secrets unraveling — especially around Leo — gave it enough intrigue to push through. Not a perfect read, but if you’re into slow-burn thrillers with some quirky small-town chaos and a few solid twists, this one’s worth checking out.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced audio of Nothing Ever Happens Here by Seraphina Nova Glass.

There was something about the narrator that I did not like listening to. I think if I would have read the ebook or print copy I would have liked it better. This was my first Seraphina Nova Glass, but I would like to try another.

Nothing Ever Happens Hereie definitely not a story where nothing happens. If anything, too much happens in this twisty mystery thriller- enough that it occasionally gets hard to keep track of. At times a bit outlandish, it’s still a decently entertaining read that will keep you in suspense.

Brittany Pressley, Stacey Glemboski, and Petrea Burchard did a fantastic job narrating the audiobook.

Thank you Seraphina Nova Glass, Harlequin Audio, and NetGalley for providing this ARC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.

Read Completed 2/17/25 | 2.5 stars | Read #17 of 2025

Sadly, this was a pretty disappointing read for me. I've read all of Seraphina Nova Glass's books, but I haven't really enjoyed one for years and I fear they just keep going downhill for me. This book just didn't have the magic that some of her earlier ones have and the beginning was the only exciting part of it.

The writing was pretty lackluster. Sadly, her writing has just become standard thriller that doesn't have a lot of tension, suspense, or interesting prose. I feel like we were straight up told too many things and I didn't feel any atmosphere here. The two main characters (that were the younger ones, not the older lady) kind of felt pretty similar. I knew who was who but it didn't really make a difference. I really didn't like the older generation. They were all boiled down to caricatures of older people, either clueless or just plain silly. I really didn't think Flor's POV really added to the story. We could have easily dropped it and finished the book a little differently and we could have focused more on the other two main characters.

The ending was just.... dumb. For me, it was obvious but I was hoping it wasn't because that was just too easy and obvious. I wasn't satisfied with it in the least bit and it didn't help an already underwhelming read. The book wasn't BAD but it certainly didn't work for me.

3.75 ⭐️ Advanced Reader Review!

Shelby narrowly survived a brutal attack that left her broken. 15 months later, with the help of her friend Mack, she starts to feel safe again in her small Minnesota town.

However, new evidence from her case has just emerged, and it’s going viral, thanks to a group of senior citizens turned amateur sleuths. Suddenly Shelby and those closest to her finds themselves the subject of seemingly targeted attacks and “accidents.” As she starts to spiral, she knows she needs to find out who attacked her that night.

Meanwhile, Mack is investigating a mystery of her own. Her husband, Leo, vanished without a trace on the same night Shelby was attacked, and no one knows why. One day, she begins to dig into her finances and realizes the real trouble she is in; she also discovers an account that is still active. Is Leo’s disappearance really connected to what happened to Shelby? When will the attacker strike again? Shelby and Mack are in a race against time to figure this mystery out before someone else gets hurt.

My thoughts: There is a lot happening in this book. There were tons of characters and different storylines, and it was a bit hard to keep up with at times. I did listen to the audio version of the book, which made it way easier to distinguish the characters. But the storylines were a bit confusing. I also thought that one storyline in particular wasn’t as necessary as the others. Whenever we would read that particular plot, I would be taken out of the story I really wanted to read.

I generally enjoy books with converging storylines. However, I felt like it took longer for things to fall into place and make sense than I would have liked. I enjoyed the suspense and mystery of the story, and I loved the characters, especially the Oleanders!

All of the narrators did a great job! I especially Brittany Pressley’s narration! Overall, I enjoyed this book, but I would have liked to focus on one main storyline. 3.75 stars.

A small Minnesota town is rocked when a business owner disappears and a woman is brutally attacked in one night. Months later, Shelby is still looking over her shoulder because she knows whoever is responsible for almost killing her is still out there. Her best friend Mack's husband, Leo, is still missing, and the bumbling police department doesn't seem to have any leads. When the senior citizens at the facility where Shelby works start poking around to find the truth, Shelby finds herself in peril again and so do other residents of the town.

I found this book to be really entertaining, even in the parts that were a bit slow. The Oleanders residents really kept things moving, although it seemed like a reach that they were doing more work than the police department. The revelation of the culprit was completely unexpected and I didn't feel like the story really did enough to set this person up as the one responsible. For all its flaws, I find it hard not to like this book because I really enjoyed the characters and the setting.

The audio narrators did an excellent job voicing each character and building up the suspense and tension throughout the book.

Nothing Ever Happens Here - Seraphina Nova Glass
Pub Date - 2/11/25
Rating - 3.5/5
Thoughts - Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin Audio for this gifted advanced listener copy in exchange for my honest review. This book seemed very interesting and the author wasted NO time in getting RIGHT into the plot. I was hooked at the beginning along with very confused since the series of events didn't line up together. I will say, towards the middle, the writing gets slow and my attention wavered -- making it drag a little. Once it picked back up again, all the way to the end, I was focused and wanted to know the identify of the killer. The killer at the end, was...okay. While I wasn't expecting it, the "why" wasn't as powerful or shocking as I would have hoped. Overall, good story!

I enjoyed this. I liked the premise of the story and that I didn’t really know what was going to happen.

There were a lot of characters to keep track of which made it difficult at times but made it harder to try and figure out!

I liked the audio and the multiple narrators. Definitely added to the story.

Not sure how I feel about the ending..

I am truly screaming. This was one of the best thriller reads. I have listened to in a hot minute. I was not prepared for all of the twists in the turns that this book took I literally thought everyone was in on it at some point in time, truly, a good thriller.

Shelby is attacked at her best friend, Mac's bakery. She is attempting to get her life back on track after this brutal attack. Her and her husband Clay are trying to live their life with some resemblance of normalcy from prior to the attack. there's just one tiny problem; someone is leaving her haunting messages and she's constantly reminded of what happened that fearful night. She must constantly watch her back and will she ever be able to rest?

Leo, Mac's husband, has gone missing the same night of Shelby's attack. Mac has searched for her husband, but where is he? trails are hinting he may still be alive, and she cannot stop at anything until she figures out where Leo went.

In the mix of all this craze, the citizens of Shelby's workplace are putting together a true crime podcast, and they are devoting their time to figure out exactly what happened to Shelby on the night of her attack. They are also pledging to put the person behind bars that's responsible for the terror they have caused in their town.

This book started off with a really good punch. It was engaging and I was ready to find out exactly what was happening. I was eager to learn who was behind all the terrorizing! Until about halfway through. The book quickly turned into a slow burn. I powered through until the end, but it lost some steam for me personally.

I did like the multiple POVs with Shelby, Mac and Florence. Each woman has their own narrator, so it was easy to pick who was responsible for which part of the story. Brittany Pressley, Stacey Glemboski and Petrea Burchard did a fantastic job with these characters! They also provided a little extra with the voices of the others in their chapters!

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Audio for this advanced audiobook in exchange for my honest review!

*Pause* Me looking at the cover to make sure this is by the same author who has gotten nothing less than 4 stars from me in all of her books. It pains me so much to rate this at a 2.5. The only chills I had going down my spine was back pain from reading this tedious book. There was nothing "bad" it was just wonky, the whole time I felt like I was trapped in a cozy mystery (minus the food and ever present cat/dog ) that was sprinkled with swear words and violence.
The book starts off with our girl Shelby being attacked and left to die in a freezer, but if you have ever spent anytime in the food service industry you know this is not possible as they do not lock from the inside....*Spoiler* (But not really) She doesnt die, okay call me crazy, but like I want a body or murder in the first chapter to hook me....
But, I dug in, the book just never captured my attention.
The book is written from 3 perspectives, Shelby, Mack and Florence
Shelby works at the Oldeander, an active senior community with a croon of oldies, they are all pretty charming in cozy mystery book kinds of ways (Basically fitting every single stereotype old people could fall into-flip phones, knitting, wearing sandals with socks....you name it). Shelby is married to Clay and has twin girls. Honestly Clay was such a bump in the log, way underdeveloped and pretty much served the purpose as being someone who could babysit the kids.....Glass missed a good opportunity in my opinion here to use him to build intrigue.
Mack, Shelby's friend, whose husband has mysteriously passed away owns the Oldeaner. A former classmate returns to the hometown and seeks to help Mack find her missing husband.
Florence, she is the token old lady perspective....probably my favorite POV as she had a little bit of charm and bite.
The book was a continuous cat and mouse chase but more like a turtle sloth chase because it moved rather slowly. The police were completely useless in this book. When the reveal finally happened....it was...lame. A big disappointment. It just missed the mark.
Not the level of thrill or writing I am use to. This is the type of book I will forget next week.....Not bad, just not good.
Thank you Net Galley for allowing me to review this advanced copy. I was not influenced or paid in exchange for this honest review,

4 stars narration of audiobook

A puzzling mystery of terrible things happening in a small town that leaves you, well, puzzled. How and why are these women being targeted? Who could be behind this? As the story unravels, you are left asking yourself what you would do if justice wasn’t an option..

Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin Audio for providing me with the opportunity to listen to this ALC!
Unfortunately, I have decided to DNF at 33%. While it was a promising and interesting premise, the storyline just didn't capture my attention the way I would expect of a twisty thriller.

While I appreciate a full-cast audio, the speeds of the different narrators were very inconsistent, forcing me to change the speed of the audiobook each time the narrator changed, which was inconvenient.

While this was not my cup of tea, I think other readers would enjoy it. As this was a DNF, I will not be providing feedback on my social media.

The book masterfully blends mystery and tension, keeping readers guessing until the very end. I was pleasantly surprised that I couldn’t predict the outcome.
As always, Seraphina Nova Glass delivered an excellent book.
The narrators Brittany Pressley, Stacey Glemboski and Petrea Burchard was amazing and they kept me glued to the story!

Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin Audio, and Seraphina Nova Glass for an advance listening copy of Nothing Ever Happens Here in exchange for an honest review. There’s one easy way to get me captivated in a book and that’s to have it set in small town USA, especially Minnesota! I absolutely loved finding parallels between my small MN town and the town where the story is set in. This was a great, suspenseful book that had me laughing, questioning, and wishing I was at the Oleander helping the residents with their podcast. The narrator did a fantastic job making me feel as if I was in the blistering cold with the characters while trying to figure out what the heck is going on.
Definitely add this one to your list, as it’s out now!

Overall, I enjoyed the story — it was entertaining and kept me engaged. The pacing was good, and there were some fun twists along the way. However, the narration bounced around a bit, which lost me a couple of times, and some parts were a little predictable. Still, it was a solid, enjoyable read and worth picking up if you’re in the mood for a lighter thriller.
