I received the audiobook of Nothing Ever Happens Here. Chapters are told in various points of view and each character had his/her own narrator, which gave the storytelling some depth. Chapter one hooked me right in and had me on the edge of my seat. The storytelling some focuses on two friends, one whose husband is missing and another who survived a terrifying attack. The plot unfolds with introductions to all the small town characters and trying to figure out who is trustworthy and who is not. I got a bit mixed up in the middle between all the characters, but I could piece it together easily enough. The last two hours really had me hooked as the climax of the plot line unfolded. Although the author left many clues, as well as several to keep us guessing, I did not figure out the ending and was shocked by the resolution. I’m not typically a fan of thrillers as I find the synopsis and the follow through of the story never pan out. But I really enjoyed this one and would recommend to anyone who loves a good whodunnit.

Could not connect with the characters or the story. Fell flat for me. It was not as thrilling or as exciting as the blurb made it out to be. It felt as if we just had a story rather than an actual plot.

I was excited to receive this as an ALC! Thrillers that suck you in from the beginning are my love language, honestly. That ending had me surprised--I never would have guessed!
Immediately we are dropped into the scene of the night that changed everything. Leo is missing; Shelby was left for dead but survived. Fifteen months later, we see Shelby working through the PTSD of almost dying, and Mack, Leo's wife and Shelby's best friend, is searching for clues about her husband's whereabouts.
Senior citizens solving crime is my favorite!! Why are senior citizens the best characters?? Always so funny. Cops in this town seem pretty lousy, what the heck.
This book had me laughing out loud (any time someone said "take a pill") and frozen with fear and suspense (seriously, driving while listening to this book was a hazard!).
If you say you guessed the ending I will not believe you! Tell me how!
This review will be posted on my booksta, toomanyfivestarreads, soon.

Thanks to Harlequin Audio & NetGalley for providing an audio ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a weird one. The plot was interesting, but possibly marred by the inclusion of a "gang" of quirky elderly people who live in the senior living center managed by one of the characters. They recall any of the elderly Scooby-Doo type groups you've encountered in recent mystery novels (Sunset Years of Agnes Sharpe comes to mind), and they do provide a little humor, I guess, but the alternating chapters made it feel like I was reading two different books sometimes. Old people are hilarious! And here is a character who lost two fingers after she was locked into a restaurant freezer to die!
Anyway, it was a good-enough mystery and kept my attention. There was perhaps too much going on, and too many superfluous characters. Does Mac really need a love interest? Are these dogs integral to the plot? (Thankfully, no dogs die in this book - always a risk when they're included.)
I would try another by this author, most likely. The voice actors did a fine job, esp. the one who voiced Florence, who juggled several old-man voices ably.
3 stars

I’ve never read anything by this author before but it’s safe to say I will be picking up more of her books.
This book grabbed my attention immediately and kept it through the entire book. This is a fast paced suspenseful mystery with some humor mixed in. The plot twist at the end was very surprising, I did not see it coming.
Shelby is attacked and left for dead, all while Mack is discovering that her husband is missing. Mack unfortunately has a big shock after finding out her husband has been keeping some big secrets from her. The police have stopped investigating both incidents because they believe they have it solved. But an unlikely group of seniors citizens have decided to take it into their own hands to solve the cases and start a podcast at the same time.
Trigger warnings:
Gambling addiction mentioned
Suicide mentioned
Gun violence
Kidnapping
Give this book a listen or pick it up to find out if they can solve both cases!

Feeling a bit meh about this one? I didn’t hate it, but I also didn’t love it. The mystery had me intrigued enough to want to continue but I also know that this isn’t a book that will stick with me,
My favourite part of this one was definitely the older characters… they had me absolutely cracking up and I love that they were ultimately so central to the solving of this mystery!
I really loved the narration of this audiobook, multi-cast and I think the voices suited each of the characters really well, it helped to bring this story to life! If you’re looking for a quick, easy read I would recommend this one. Nothing earth shattering but it would be a great audio to put on while you’re doing chores or working out!

I was very excited to see a new release from Seraphina Nova Glass. This book hooked me in the beginning then became a bit too unbelievable. I really liked the elderly folks working to solve the mystery--similar to Only Murders in the Building. I wish the storyline had been a bit more realistic at the end. It had some erratic pacing since some parts were super engaging and others were a bit too dragged out or required the reader to suspend belief.
All in all a good read if you are wanting something a little less serious from a thriller.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for a copy of this 🎧 audio ARC.
I think this had a lot of potential, but to me the pacing was kind of hard to keep up with. There were points where I was excited and left on a cliff hanger, and other points where there was a lag in the plot. I do agree with the reviews that state there are a lot of characters, which at times left me super confused for the first half of the book.
I did love the group of senior citizen friends and their plot line. It was a great addition! I really liked how the lives of all 3 main characters wove into each other at the end. This is my first of this author and I am a little curious to look into her others.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in multiple POVs and how a suspenseful mystery takes over a small town and intertwines into everyone’s lives.

First of all, thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for allowing me access to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I had high hopes for this book, but it ultimately fell short of my expectations. While the plot had potential, the pacing felt sluggish, especially as I moved into the middle and latter parts of the story. The beginning was promising, but I found it challenging to stay engaged, and I ended up taking longer than usual to finish it.
The mystery kicks off with Mac, whose husband mysteriously disappears the same night Shelby is taken hostage at her café. Shelby’s near-death experience in the freezer adds a gripping element, but a year later, when a threatening note appears on her car, the tension resurfaces. Her husband provides her with a gun for protection, while Mac struggles with her husband’s absence and the unsettling suspicion that she might be involved in his disappearance.
Florence, aiming to create a podcast to investigate the crime and keep her mind sharp, adds another layer to the narrative. However, I found her storyline less engaging, and the lack of police involvement left me frustrated, especially as Shelby faced repeated threats without adequate protection.

A very good light, lifetime-esque book. The only downfall for me was the main character made so many wrong decisions it was almost, unbelievable?

I just have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this one!!
I don't think I've read this author before, but, I will be looking for her in the future!
We begin on a cold, dark night in Minnesota (although it sounded more like Alaska with the arctic temps noted!!), when Shelby makes a quick stop back at the diner when she realizes her little one left a stuffed animal...probably at the table... Oh, and her friend owns the place…
When she gets in the door, it's dark, and she is attacked from behind... and then, is threatened, and thrown in a meat freezer...and left for dead... with her two little ones asleep in her running car, just outside....
THIS HAPPENS in the first 5 minutes of the book, so it is not a spoiler... (and I believe it's also in the description on line...)
Somehow, she survives, and we pick up the pieces over a year later.
We find out that her best friend's husband, Leo, went missing on that same fateful night...never to be heard from again.
Shelby, in the meantime, runs the Senior Community Center, Oleander... so we get a bird's eye view of the octogenarians (at least I think they are, I don't think any ages were noted...) and all their shenanigans. To say the least, they are downright HYSTERICAL!! I can only HOPE to be that full of spunk if/when I get to that age!!!
There's a whole crew of these 'ole-eee's' and their antics are sure to get at least a few chuckles out of you!!
But, when things start to turn in their small town, and bad things keep happening (around Shelby and her crew and family), although the police are called, they just kind of blow everything off, and don't believe what anyone is saying!
What??? What is going on ????
Crazy stuff, and I just kept saying what the heck???
Twist, after twist, after twist! And in the end, I did not ever suspect the actual suspect!!! =0
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me!!!

I really enjoyed SNG's other reads (The Vanishing Hour and Someone's Listening) but sadly, Nothing Ever Happens Here fell short. I was initially hooked which is the reason for two stars but I quickly lost interest and really only enjoyed the banter between the residents in the nursing home. It was admittedly difficult to keep track of everyone - even listening on audio. Uninteresting characters and an ultimately boring plot left me disappointed.

📚 Book Review: Nothing Ever Happens Here by Seraphina Nova Glass 📚
Big thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for allowing me to enjoy the Advanced Listener Copy of this book! The narration team—Brittany Pressley, Stacey Glemboski, and Petrea Burchard—truly brought this story to life. I can always count on Brittany Pressley for an amazing listen, and the trio's combined talent made for an engaging and dynamic audiobook experience.
Glass kicks things off with a bang, immediately pulling you into a story full of intrigue and suspense. After such an action-packed beginning, there was a bit of a lull, but just when you think you've caught your breath, the twists keep twisting! This was a quick and addictive read, and I especially loved the "oldies-but-goodies" playing novice detectives.
Flo and Herb were absolute gems, and I feel pretty certain Millie would be a wild good time at any girls' night. These characters brought a delightful charm to the story, offering a cozy and fun vibe amidst the suspense.
Nothing Ever Happens Here is perfect as a palate cleanser, especially if you're in between heavier reads or need a quick, engaging mystery. It has that small-town, amateur-sleuth charm reminiscent of Only Murders in the Building with a fresh twist.
I’d have no problem recommending this to friends, especially if they’re looking for a fast-paced, cozy thriller with lovable characters and plenty of surprises.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3.5/5 stars)
If you’re in the mood for a light and twisty read with fantastic narration, grab this one and get ready for a fun ride!

This one started off pretty solid. I was definitely hooked at the start. but throughout the remainer of the book - it didn't fully get me with the thrill. Shelby survives quite the scary attack and fast forward a year - she's trying to move on with her life - but threatening notes are starting to appear. There were definitely a lot of characters to keep track of. Overall narration was fine. I did finish it. I think it's a solid book that many will enjoy. Just not my favorite thriller. Thank you to Macmillan audio and Netgalley for this audio in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book was very good. I loved the cast of characters and the twist of an ending was not what I expected. Narration was excellent.

There was a lot wrong with this book, but I enjoyed it and was happy to pick it up again. Mindless, catchy, enjoyable.

MY THOUGHTS-
This was my first novel by Seraphina Nova Glass, and the wintry small-town backdrop captivated me right away. Florence and her hilarious gang of amateur detectives at the Oleander home were both heartwarming and razor-sharp, often overshadowing the local police. It gave me Only Murders in the Building and The Thursday Murder Club vibes. Their antics and determination to crack the case had me smiling all the way. Although it’s not the twistiest thriller I’ve read, the pacing was brisk, and the variety of surprises kept me on my toes. The small-town atmosphere with hidden secrets added to the intrigue, making it an enjoyable read overall. The audio version of this book pumped it up to 4 stars for me.

Shelby is attacked and left for dead. She survives but has no idea who her attacker is. A group of senior citizens start a podcast and attempt to help investigate.
This book hooked me immediately. And then there were too many characters and POV switches for me to follow. By the end, I didn't really care who the bad guy was. I'm disappointed because I love books set in Minnesota.
I like when there are different narrators for different POVs and the audiobook was well produced. However, one of the voices sounded too young for the character.

I enjoyed this one a little bit. Not my favorite…seem to be all over the place. The ending was a good one though!

So many mysteries in one little town.. are they all connected? Or just a coincidence?
Shelby and Mack are lifelong friends. But one night changes their life forever. Shelby is attacked almost left for dead the same night Mack's husband goes missing. When Mack discovers some troubling secrets her husband was keeping, the police think they have it all figured out. But do they?
This was a classic thriller from Seraphina Nova Glass! This was a fast paced novel that kept you turning the page and scratching your head throughout the story. I loved the "gang" of senior citizens, they really made the book fun!
My one complaint was there were just a few too many characters to keep track of.
Thank you so much to NetGalley & Harlequin for the ARC!
