Secrets, lies, twists, turns and suspense! Kathryn Croft has done it again! She has delivered a thrilling psychological thriller which kept me guessing and turning those pages! Just when I thought I had everything figured out, Kathryn Croft proved me wrong! This is the 7th book that I have read by Croft, and she always delivers!! I know when I pick up one of her books that I am in for a fabulous reading experience!

It was supposed to be a fun evening out, but then Kate saw Jamie's beautiful blue eyes, she was intrigued but it was his charm that won her over. After a one-night stand, Kate returns to find Jamie murdered!!!!! She decides not to go to the police and instead goes on with her life.

But life has a way of throwing curveballs at you and while at a playdate with her son, she sees Jamie's picture in her new friend, Harper's living room. He said he wasn't married but here she is sitting in his home making small talk with his wife! Talk about a shocker!!!!!

This one is juicy folks! Kathryn Croft has a way of throwing in twists and turns which leave me reeling and have my head spinning. I was shocked more than once while reading this book. As with the other books I have read by this author, The Last One to See Him was wonderfully written, well thought out, perfectly paced, and had interesting characters.

Whew! This book proved to be a fast read as I did not want to put it down! I had to know what was going to happen next! I did not see the reveal coming at all! I love it when that happens!

after her recent separation, kate mason decides to go out with her friends to celebrate her divorce from ellis. at the bar, she strikes up a conversation with a man named jamie and shares a drink with him. at the end of the night, he invites her back to his flat, where she stays until morning. before parting ways, they make plans to meet there again that afternoon. however, when kate arrives, she discovers that jamie is dead. panicked, she knows she can't call the police - her past would make her the prime suspect. fearing they won’t believe her innocence, she flees the scene and tries to move on as if nothing happened.


i've read some of kathryn croft's work in the past and always enjoyed them - this time was no different. it was a suspenseful read with some interesting twists along the way. even thought i found it predictable who actually killed jamie, the story still had me hooked from beginning to end.

the story was a bit of a slow burn, which i didn't mind.
it unfolds across multiple timelines. through the perspectives of kate, harper, jamie, and rowan, the story presents a varied view of events.
the storyline was full of lies, secrets and interesting, complex characters.

i didn't find them particularly likeable, probably because everyone seemed to be hiding something.
nevertheless, the mc - kate- was very intriguing and i was eager to see how her complicated relationships with the people surrounding her would develop.
both kate and harper are devoted mothers who will go to any lengths to protect their sons, which was admirable.

overall, it was a gripping thriller - maybe not the most unique premise, but still very engaging and it kept my attention throughout.
i enjoyed the ending, the writing style, and would reccomend it!

My first book by this author and it will not be my last. This book delivered as promised—I did NOT want to put it down.

Kate finds herself in a literal dumpster fire of events, all from one seemingly harmless night of letting loose and letting her guard down. She doesn’t normally do that.

She is surrounded by cheaters, liars, pretenders, fake friends, and people who genuinely do not have her best interest at heart. Spiraling from events that happened when she was a teen, Kate thinks that someone is out to get her. Strange things start to happen to her and she realizes there is no one she can trust—it’s just her and her son.

She relies on her therapist to continue making progress and making sense of everything, continuing from that day many years ago. But no one can actually know what happened that night. No one.

I loved the multiple POVs, the narrator themself who created an almost Birds Eye POV, and the inside head thinking (I think like this, so I resonated with that). It made the dialogue seem so real, characters were relatable, and the story flowed so efficiently and was easy to follow along.

What a great story it was and so thankful to NetGalley and the author/publisher for the advanced copy for my review!

Kate Mason is out with friends to celebrate the end of her marriage to Ellis. While buying drinks at the bar Kate’s eyes meet with Jamie’s who she starts talking to. They spend the night together and arrange to meet again but when she arrives at his flat the following afternoon the door is open and Jamie is lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Kate should phone the police but she can’t risk it as she’s probably the last person to have seen him alive.

‘The Last One To See Him’ is a psychological thriller with an involving plot as Kate Mason confides in her therapist Rowan about a woman who she’s convinced wants to harm her. There are multiple timelines and lots of characters, so many that at times it’s been difficult to keep track of who was doing what, when and where. Although it’s a good thriller it’s not great but it kept me involved and is definitely worth reading.

Any book by this author is always enjoying and full of twists and turns. I found this book a little difficult to follow due to it jumping timeframes frequently and early on before character building was formed fully. However, the plot was great and was worth the read.

I can't imagine meeting a guy at a bar, going home with him, then finding out he was murdered, and I was the last one to see him. And that is ex blames me! Well, that's the plot of this book, and it's genius!! I couldn't stop reading it, and couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen, and what did actually happen!

Throwing caution to the wind one night, while out for drinks with a friend, Kate does something very unlike her and chats with a gentleman at the bar. *And can I just say how much I loved the name of the bar - Tequila Mockingbird. Brilliant!*
While chatting with this man, she learns his name is Jamie and, like her, he’s separated and also has a son the same age as her son.
When the Uber comes and a mistake is made, Kate decides to spend the night with Jamie.

From there, the story gets wild and crazy! You’d better cancel your plans and settle in because this was the epitome of “just one more chapter before I go to sleep!”

This was thrilling, suspenseful, super engrossing, and one of those books where everyone could be the antagonist!

This was a tense psychological thriller about Kate. She’s a single mum with a son and sleeps with a guy on a night out, it he later turns up dead. Who killed him and why? It goes back and forth as Kate found a dead guy when she was 15. She can’t be held responsible for this guys death too. I really enjoyed this book, it’s fast paced, I enjoyed the story about what happened when she was a kid and it revealed itself what happened at the end of the book. A great 4.5 star read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.

Kate panics, she can't call the police, after what happened in her past she's certain they won't believe she's not responsible so she leaves and tries to carry on as normal. When her eight year old son Thomas is invited to his friend Dexter's house, she's certain it's the distraction she needs until she sees a wedding photo on the wall and the groom is Jamie. Did his wife Harper know what happened, or is all this pure coincidence and what will happen if the truth comes out?

The Last One To See Him is the latest thriller by Croft, told in past and present tense we meet Kate who is adjusting to life as a single mum but still can't shake off her past. This story had me hooked from the first page and, in true Croft style, had me constantly changing my mind about who was responsible for Jamie's death and intrigued who would want to exact revenge on Kate. This was a fast paced, compelling and, at times, chilling read with some great twists along the way and an ending that completely blindsided me. Another fabulous plot from one of my go to authors who never fails to impress me!

I absolutely loved this book, it kept me gripped right till the last page. I have enjoyed many books by Kathryn Croft an author who never lets you down and is one of my favourites. I highly recommend this book and its an easy 5 stars from me.

A nicely twisted tale. Kate is shocked to find Jamie dead but she's even more shocked to discover that he was actually married to Harper, mom to her son's friend. And not only that, that Harper knew who she was. Did Harper set Kate up? Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This is a slow burn but keep going for a rewarding read.

If you’re looking for a psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat then add The Last One to See him to your TBR list. This slow burn, edge of your seat thriller will have you turning pages late into the night. I’ve never read a Kathryn Croft book that I didn’t like and The Last One to See Him goes on my favorites list. Can’t wait to read more books by her in the future.

Who can you really trust, your spouse , old friends, new friends…..?
This story has so many twist and was at times a bit confusing but I enjoyed reading it.

This is my hardest book to rate yet! Liked the story and the characters, twist was decent, but I struggggggggled finishing it.

Interestingly, I didn’t ever consider DNFing though, cause I wanted to know what happens …but getting there was so long.

I usually don’t mind a slow-paced book but the third person narration with so many characters, long chapters and time skips was just a bad mix. I think I would have loved this book with first person narration and if each chapter was a different character. I think it would have made the long chapters and time skips work for the book rather than against them.

Really a good story and great writing, just not my cup of tea (as the British say 😏). That all to say, I still would recommend the book and read more of her books!

A great psychological thriller that tied me up in knots! There were some good red herrings that kept throwing me off the scent.

With everyone having something to hide, I didn’t find the characters particularly likeable. The ending was chilling and left me gobsmacked.

There were parts of the book that had too much going but I couldn’t stop turning the page to see what happened!
