Being a nurse, I was really excited about this one set in the medical field. I liked the characters a lot and the overall story was good, but it didn’t have the polish that I was hoping for. The rumors storyline was annoying at times, but I liked the way it was wrapped up. The misogyny storyline was a bit overdone, but as a woman in healthcare, I’ve absolutely seen some of it in person. Men get an automatic respect that women have to earn. So in the end, I enjoyed the story but feel like I’d have liked it more if it had a few tweaks.

I wanted to love this one. But the characters were annoying, I didn’t feel any chemistry, and the main conflict of the book didn’t seem to have any resolution. Thank you NetGalley for the eARC.

2.5 ⭐️

Grace was so excited to begin her residency. But before she even started, there were rumors about one of the interns, and most fingers pointed towards her.

Julian doesn't give off the best first impression, thus beginning their banter. Julian is a good guy at the end of the day, but we only knew surface level him.

Honestly, if I were Grace, I would have never forgiven half the people she interacted with. Making judgments based on her name was wild. I also think Grace should have embraced her name more to squish the rumors.

Grace has had some bad boyfriends, thus not allowing her to truly lean into her relationship with Julian. She definitely needed to talk to someone about her past relationships and how she could see there wasn't anything wrong with her.

This was an extremely quick and fast-paced read. I did want some more hospital drama and not centered around rumors.

**Thanks to Netgalley and Canary Street Press for a copy**

Thank you Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley for this ARC of Love Sick. Grace Rose and Julian Santini are both 1st year OB/GYN residents who get off on the wrong foot thanks to a nasty rumor about Grace that Julian believes without question. The rumor spreads like wildfire through the hospital, unfairly coloring the way others treat her, and it definitely took a toll on me as a reader watching her endure it. As they’re forced to worked long hours together, Julian starts to see the real Grace. Their walls begin to drop and what starts as tension slowly shifts into something real and tender. Their chemistry was believable and I enjoyed watching their dynamic evolve from rivals to something more heartfelt and genuine. This had all the drama, tension, and chemistry you’d expect from a story set in a high pressure hospital, and as a Grey’s Anatomy fan, I was here for it!

This was definitely a fun little slow burn rom-com for the summer. As a nurse, I sometimes steer clear of medical fiction, but this one was well done! I love that its written by a physician and reflects fairly realistic scenarios. This is definitely a mash-up of Grey's Anatomy and The Hating Game and is perfect if you love a good rivals to lovers.

Definitely the hating game meets Grey’s anatomy. Loved the enemies to lovers and how the story dealt with nasty rumors and how they can spiral.

I received an arc from netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

both leads were not likable to me and I couldn't get into the story or their arc unfortunately. since they wanted to do something imporant about workplace gossip andmisogny but it didn't work for me

Love Sick by Deidra Duncan is another good new release this week. This one gave me some Gray’s Anatomy vibes from when the main cast was all interns/residents. Not as dramatic, but definitely fun.

Julian and Grace are both new residents trying to succeed in a program stacked against them. He is the only D.O. in a program full of M.D.s while she is victim of a nasty rumor that won’t go away. They meet at a party as their first year begins and clash almost immediately. In true enemies to lovers fashion, we spend a good while wondering will they or won’t they as they make it through their days at the hospital.

I enjoyed this one a lot. I was happy to get both the audiobook and ebook from @NetGalley thanks to @HarlequinAudio and @HarliquinTradePublishing.

As their blurbs say, this one is just what the doctor ordered! It is out now, you can grab it for yourself.

This was a cute read! It gave a Grey's Anatomy type vibe.
At the beginning-major pining, Voldemort/Twilight/Star Wars references, hate-flirting. Everything was good and it definitely kept me giggling...at the beginning. However, when it got to the point where Grace and Julian got together it kind of fell flat for me... for one, Julian is almost TOO emotionally stable, too sweet, too...textbook perfect? It was kind of unrealistic to me. It just kind of went no where fast, and left me a little disappointed. People just realistically don't act like that. Some of the declaration of love was a little cheesy to me as well.
Overall, I still would recommend this to others to read because it was cute and I would never just down right say don't read a book. Definitely read and form your own opinion-but with one additional caveat; have a dictionary or phone handy, or to read it on an e-reader/kindle. I say this only because this was written by a real doctor. So, there are terms that may be unknown to an average reader and you will have to look them up to have real understanding of what is going on. Or maybe you might be cool with just going with the flow, but I am one that needs to know what is going on.

this wasn’t a favorite of mine. i found the MMC to be an asshole and didn’t want them to get together lol

If you love Grey’s Anatomy vibes, major pining, and hate flirting this is for you!

- Dual POV
- Enemies to lovers
- Workplace romance

This book was written by an actual doctor and it was so interesting to really get a look at what residency is like and the family it creates between all the residents going through the same thing. I was highly invested in the romance between Grace and Julian, the electricity jumped off the page! The slow burn was so good and Julian was down bad. I could not put this down!

I can’t wait to read the next book in this universe!

Thank you to the author, Harlequin Trade Publishing, and Canary Street Press for the advanced copy!

Grace Rose and Julian are fellow first year residents who get off on wrong foot. Based on Grace’s gender and given name, Sapphire, she’s been subject to insulting rumors of how she got into the program and Julian initially lets them cloud his view of her. Quickly realizing the error of his ways, he tries to make amends, but it’s too late and they engage in a mutual dislike of one another. Their close proximity starts to erode at the barriers they’ve put up and soon enough they’re spending more time together and the chemistry between them becomes too hard resist.

I loved this! I was so intrigued when I saw the premise and it didn’t disappoint. I used to be a big fan of Grey’s Anatomy, but anxiety about medical issues has made it hard for me to watch shows of that nature. Also, after a few years, I get bored. All that to say, I find it much more palatable to read medical romances that watch them play out on TV. It’s a world I’m so unfamiliar with and I enjoy seeing it from the perspective of a provider. I will say that I’m still pretty confused when it comes to the hierarchy and definitely some of the jargon.

Back to the love story within this book, I was highly invested in this couple and hoping they could make it work. The electric chemistry between these two characters was evident from their first meeting. It’s a slow burn for sure, but worth the wait. The tension that is built up was hot; who knew handholding could be so sexy. Julian had me swooning many times throughout the book. He really was such a sweetheart and I loved seeing how down bad he was for Grace.

Once they got most of the sparring out of their systems, the care and concern they had for each other was heartwarming, being the safe space they needed. They’re both up against some misconceptions, although Grace’s were much more damaging and hard to overcome and they supported each other wholeheartedly. And I loved that worked together to get better at the skills they were lacking. It is shocking to me and also not how pervasive the misogyny is in the medical field.

I had two qualms that kept this from being a 5 star read. One was that Julian kept using Grace’s birth name that she preferred not to use. I LOVE when people call each other the wrong names in books, but more like calling her Greta or Gertrude. Not a name that was tied to her feeling self-conscious and judged. The third act break-up also irked me a bit. There seemed to be enough tension/drama without it.

Good medical drama/romance book (as long as you aren’t in the medical field).
A slow burn read.
The characters were good. I just didn’t connect with them and thought some of the character drama was just too much.

"I will save lives and today is the beginning."

When I saw Love Sick described as a blend of Grey's Anatomy and The Hating Game, I immediately requested an ARC on NetGalley.
This dual POV, enemies-to-lovers, workplace romance follows two doctors during their OB-GYN residency. I’m not going to lie, I seriously considered DNFing this book multiple times during the first half.
The initial conflict between the two MCs felt very immature and petty. Normally, pop culture references don’t bother me at all, but this book had so many that it became really distracting. There were multiple references to Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Office, and after a while, it had me rolling my eyes.
The flow of the story felt choppy and became hard to follow in places. Some of the banter and internal monologues felt cringey, with lines like:
"Grace’s body is like someone poured an Ariana Grande song into an hourglass."
With that being said, the book did improve around the halfway point.
What I liked the most was the hospital setting. I really enjoyed learning about the workload and medical scenarios these doctors face during their residency. For me, it made the book feel more realistic when the rest felt overly dramatic and immature.
I didn’t dislike the book, but I didn’t love it either. It felt repetitive and leaned a bit too young for me personally.

When Julian gives Grace his secret santa gift:

He lifts one of the cardboard lids, and I peek in the package. Sugar. Granulated sugar. Powdered sugar. Brown sugar. Cane sugar. Sanding sugar. Splenda. Sugar cubes.
My gaze shoots to his. “What the hell, Julian? What am I supposed to do with all this sugar?”
Merriment gleams on his face. His cheeks grow rosy. “I suggest using it to bake the children. Helps with the bitterness.”

Thank you to the publisher and to netgalley! Read if you like: a slow burn medical romance between enemies to friends to lovers. Grace and Julian had great chemistry and all the playful flirting payed off. Off to go rewatch Grey's Anatomy to fill the hole this book left!

This started off really promising. I appreciated how the author grounded the story in OB/GYN authenticity. Then, the story progressed and the relationship complications were waaay to wimpy to make me care for the couple we've been rooting for the whole time because the obstacles lacked meat and the writing/storytelling quality really faltered.

If you’re a fan of Grey’s Anatomy-style drama with high-stakes medical moments and even higher emotional tension, Love Sick by Deidra Duncan is a must-read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this medical romance that blends intense hospital life with raw, emotional vulnerability. The story centers around Grace, a brilliant but misunderstood OB/GYN resident who faces cruel rumors that she only got into her program by sleeping her way in. These lies cast a long shadow over her reputation and make it nearly impossible for her to be seen for who she really is—a capable, hardworking woman trying to make her mark.

Enter Julian, fellow resident who buys into the gossip and judges Grace harshly at first. Their initial disdain for one another is palpable and sets the stage for a classic enemies-to-lovers arc. But as circumstances push them to rely on each other's strengths—Grace with her book smarts, Julian with his surgical skills—they begin to see each other in a new light.

Their growing partnership and eventual emotional connection are beautifully paced. The chemistry is undeniable, and their study sessions crackle with both tension and tenderness. Still, Grace’s emotional scars and past traumas hold her back, making their romance feel all the more real and hard-earned.

Love Sick is more than a romance—it’s a story about redemption, resilience, and learning to trust someone when the world has made you doubt yourself. It’s emotional, steamy, and filled with the kind of drama that will keep you hooked until the very last page.

This book was so perfect, I didn’t want to stop reading about these two!

The banter? 5 stars. I live for sharp, funny dialogue and this gave me exactly what I love. The enemies-to-lovers vibes are alive and thriving by the 25% mark, which made the shift in their relationship feel more real and earned. And since I’m a sucker for good banter… this was everything for me. 😂

This was also my first medical romance, so it felt different in the good way. The mental health representation was beautifully done, and I really appreciated how Grace spoke up for herself, strong, honest, and not afraid to hold her ground. It was good to see how it still affected her though.

And Julian? He’s the sweetest, most thoughtful, patient man ever. The tension between them is so palpable; it practically hums off the page. 😍

Side note: if this is what doctor internships are actually like… WTH?! That was rough. I would’ve sent everyone to hell by Day 2. Seriously.

The fights between them were so intense, heartbreaking but powerful. I loved that Julian didn’t hold back from expressing how much he was hurting. It made everything feel raw and real. 😭😭😭

Such a great read. I’m still not over it.

I received an early copy from NetGalley for my honest opinion, and I will be buying myself a physical copy since I love it so much!!
