The Night Shift is a tense, gripping read that keeps you turning the pages. Gemma Rogers builds suspense brilliantly, with a strong lead character and a story that keeps you guessing. It’s the kind of book you won’t want to put down—perfect for fans of psychological thrillers with a gritty edge.

The Night Shift by Gemma Rogers is a tense and gripping thriller that kept me turning the pages late into the night. The suspense builds quickly, and the unfolding danger makes it impossible to look away. I enjoyed the fast-paced storytelling and the constant sense of unease, and I rated it five stars.

The author successfully nailed the trapped feeling of being in a 24-hour storage facility. The quiet and loneliness of being in such a big building. There is also a nice amount of dread, tension, danger, and unease in this book. While it was enjoyable, I don't believe that I will remember this book in months to come.

This had me invested from the start and I was eager to know what was going to happen and how the main character was going to survive the night.
Unfortunately the story was a little repetitive and some of choices the FMC made were just silly. I know if other choices were made then the story would have been over but I could move away from how frustrating it was.
There were some interesting twists thrown in that I didn’t see coming which kept me interested.
Overall it was a okay thriller and I did enjoy aspects of it. I would interested in reading another book by this author as at times the suspense in this book was up there.

For those who enjoy fast-paced thrillers with psychological tension, this book is, at first glance, an irresistible read. I believe fans of authors like Taylor Adams or Freida McFadden will be drawn to this intense plot, which takes place almost entirely over the course of one claustrophobic night.
The story revolves around Nina, a medical student working the night shift at a storage facility to help pay for her studies. Living with type 1 diabetes and completely alone in the building, Nina suddenly finds herself in real danger when a stranger arrives carrying a suspicious suitcase, and unsettling events begin to unfold around her. From that moment on, it becomes a game of survival that spans twelve harrowing hours.
The book succeeds in creating an oppressive, immersive atmosphere that keeps the reader on edge. The tension builds effectively, and the enclosed setting adds to the feeling of imminent threat. The protagonist’s medical condition brings an interesting extra layer of urgency to the narrative — which I was really enjoying!
However, despite the original and intriguing premise, I couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed with the development of the story. As the book progresses, there’s a noticeable repetition of situations and decisions that disrupt the pace and make parts of the plot feel predictable. Some of the protagonist’s choices are frustrating, and there are moments when the narrative seems to go in circles without truly moving forward. This repetition ends up weakening the impact of the initial suspense and makes the reading experience somewhat tiring at times.
Still, this book has all the right elements to entertain fans of the genre: constant danger, a closed-in setting, and a vulnerable yet determined protagonist. It’s a quick and intense read, with a good dose of suspense — even if it doesn’t fully live up to its potential.

Gemma rigers went to town o this book. This was a very tense read and did not disappoint. A definite must read

In my opinion, it was far fetched - it took me way too long to read it. I would read another book by the author though because it had potential, and I liked their writing style.

This was not at all what I was expecting. The setting for this book is a U-Haul-style storage facitly where many different characters and clients come in and out. I'm not sure what i was expecting (a medical thriller, probably) but this wasn't it. I didn't love or hate this book. It was fine. But I wasn't super invested.

I have enjoyed many of this authors books before, however this one felt different. Very much a cat and mouse story that would translate brilliantly to the big screen, but felt a little repetitive to read. That said, the story is good and a good few twists along the way.

The Night Shift is a suspenseful, high stakes novel that takes place over the course of one 12 hour shift. It is divided up into hours of the shift and was really well written.
Nina works as overnight security at a storage facility and she is diabetic. When she hears a scream during one of her routine checks, she feels like she must investigate it. There’s a strange man lugging a suitcase that must be the culprit so she writes down his tag number and leaves it lying on her desk. I wanted to yell during that because I knew that would come back to haunt her. What ensues next is basically a 12 hour fight for your life situation where Nina is fighting to keep her diabetes in check while also trying to escape from a crazy person set on killing her.
There were times when I was holding my breath trying to figure out how Nina was going to get through the current situation and make it out. There were so many twists that I didn’t see coming and it was a delight. I look forward to reading more by this author.

This suspense/thriller had me within its grasp shortly after starting! At times I found myself leaning far too close to the screen of my kindle out of excitement and anticipation of what was going to happen next. This was my first book by this author and it surely won’t be the last!

The Night Shift was fast paced and claustrophobic, I could feel the tension and dread coming from each page. It was packed full of twists and turns all of which were unexpected. I really enjoyed it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my ARC.

3.5 rounded up
Fast paced and easy to read. I felt like I was there with Nina. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book

The premise of this book was intriguing, but I found Nina’s thoughts and questionable choices to be a little much for me.

The Night Shift by Gemma Rogers is a fast-paced, claustrophobic thriller that grabs you from the first page. Set in a storage facility during an overnight shift, the story follows Nina, a med student with diabetes, who faces a scary ordeal after a suspicious man arrives with a blood-stained suitcase.
Tension builds throughout the book in the confined setting, using the eerie atmosphere to full effect. Nina is a relatable and resilient protagonist, and her health condition adds extra urgency to her fight for survival. The plot is filled with twists—some predictable, others genuinely surprising—that keep the momentum going.
While the story occasionally stretches believability and can feel repetitive, the suspense and relentless pacing make it hard to put down. A solid, gripping read for fans of psychological thrillers.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

This was a fast paced thriller that was very intense. The story takes place overnight at an indoor storage unit. I enjoyed the story but action packed stories sometimes become draining for me. Overall, a great thriller if action is your preference.

This book plunges you into the gritty and often dangerous world of late-night London, where secrets lurk in the shadows and unexpected connections can have deadly consequences. The novel centers around two compelling protagonists navigating this nocturnal landscape: Emily, a dedicated emergency dispatcher fielding desperate calls in the dead of night, and Chris, a troubled police officer working the night shift, haunted by a past tragedy.

The Night Shift is about Nina who is in medical school as works at a 24 hour storage unit to help pay for her tuition. It’s the perfect job because she works overnight which allows her time to be able to complete her studies and she never sees more than a few people each night. When she shows up to work for her shift she’s already off her game and her and her boyfriend got into a fight and broke up. During her 12 hour shift one visitor ends up with her having to try to figure out how to stay alive till the end person shows up for their shift tomorrow.
It’s a car and mouse game that is designed during this book. It gave me scary movie vibes where you want to yell at the character that they aren’t doing the right thing and to just run for it. The book was engaging and fast paced.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
