Thank you netgalley for the chance to read this!
I really enjoyed this: 4.5 / 5 stars. I think Jane Smith might be one of Patterson's best protagonists. She's smart and witty, confident but also very grounded from her cancer diagnosis, and the morality that she fights with in regards to her court case is really intriguing. I love the cast of characters here (Jimmy, Rob, Dr. Ben), and in particular I like how much this lives in the courtroom instead of in the case investigation.
This is the third in a series and I do think you have to follow all 3 for the story to make sense. I loved the subplot of a killer tracking down gambling debts and the juxtaposition to the triple homicide at the heart of the book.
All in all, this is just a FUN ride. Quick chapters, quick resolution, and incredibly enjoyable.

I really love the character Jane Smith and was so excited to see that there was another book in this series.
James Patterson and Mike Lupica are such a great team and create such amazing legal thrillers, "The Hamptons Lawyer" is no exception.
This book is filled with tension in the best way and I hope there's more coming in this series.
Thank you Little, Brown and Company and the James Patterson street team for giving me access to this ARC.

This is the third book in the Jane Smith series and I love her character more and more after reading each book. This series does need to be read in order because there are continuous storylines and I think that’s what makes the story so much better!
I have enjoyed getting to experience Jane’s evolution and the way she deals with her daily struggles. Jane has been through some stuff but she’s such a bad bitch that she powers through.
I really hope there will be more books featuring Jane Smith because I feel like she has such a long journey in front of her and I would love to see what happens next.

James Patterson and Mike Lupica kept me hooked from the very first chapter. The Hamptons Lawyer has everything I love in a thriller—fast pacing, sharp twists, and a setting that adds an extra layer of intrigue. The Hamptons backdrop gave the story just the right mix of glamour and grit, and the courtroom drama kept me flipping pages late into the night.
Jane is such a compelling character—tough, smart, and layered in ways that made me root for her the whole way through. The short, punchy chapters made it impossible to stop reading, and every time I thought I had the plot figured out, Patterson and Lupica threw in another surprise.
If you enjoy legal thrillers with strong characters, high stakes, and nonstop suspense, this one is a must-read.
✨ Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the authors for the chance to read this book early. I couldn’t put it down!

This book started out on NetGalley with the title NEVER SAY DIE then switched to THE HAMPTONS LAWYER. How confusing! When I finally realized it was the third in the Jane Smith series and not a new series, I was happy. Jane is still her strong, mouthy self, defending Rob again for a new murder. The characters here were stronger and clearer in my mind than they were in the last book. The murder mystery is solved to my satisfaction, and a possible new case opens up, leading, hopefully, to a continuation of the series. Thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company for providing an ARC. Just please don't change the title midstream!

I am a big fan of both James Patterson and Mike Lupica. I really enjoyed the first book in this series. Jane effing Smith is a badass female character, which is my favorite kind. That being said, this book just didn't do it for me this time. I felt it was almost too similar to the first two books in the series. It made me not care about the characters as much this time.
I liked the courtroom drama, but the creepy characters involved in the crimes were a little redundant for me. My favorite character is actually Ben, Jane's boyfriend, and I would love to read his story instead next time.
JP, you'll always be my favorite author, but I am done with this series now. This book has some great reviews, so don't let this one stop you from reading the book. I do feel like you need to read the first book n the series, at least, to understand the characters and their backstory more.
Thank you to NetGalley, Little, Brown & CO, James Patterson, and Mike Lupica for sharing this book with me. This is my honest review.

Jane Smith is one of my favorite characters and I've enjoyed this series. But some of the other characters in this book, not so much. I don't really care for the ruthless and violent mob characters. And overall, this one had a depressive mood about it...not quite sure why so many characters have or had cancer? It was still enjoyable and worth a read but fell a bit short of expectations. My thanks to Little, Brown and Company for providing a review copy via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Fast and entertaining legal thriller.
This is the third in the series featuring criminal defense lawyer, Jane (Effing) Smith, who is, at least in her own mind, the best of the best but definitely so in this part of Long Island. This is the only one I’ve read, but I’m definitely hooked and look forward to checking the others out.
In this book, Jane and her investigative partner, both ex NYPD cops, are defending a local real estate creep named Rob Jacobson. He’s been accused of murder, the triple homicide of a man, wife and teen daughter. The evidence against him is overwhelming, but Jane and Jimmy Cunniff have a plan. Unfortunately, the case has ties to a local bunch of bad guys who are into loan sharking, racketeering, and bookmaking.
Meanwhile, Jane is dealing with a personal health crisis of her own that means she has to win this case if it is the last thing she does.
Lots of action and bad guys doing what they do. The characters were interesting and I’d probably know them better if I had read the first two books. This was fine as a stand alone. The medical aspect was a bit, ok wildly, unbelievable but I just ignored that and went with it. This is the type of book you can just lose yourself in for a couple of hours and just have fun with it.
I was able to listen to the audio book while also following along with the e-book ARC provided by the publisher. The narrator, Eva Kaminsky, did a great job of voicing the characters and they were easy to differentiate. Her dramatic flair added a nice touch and made the immersive experience more pleasurable.

I just want to say James and Mike you have spoiled us again. This book and these characters.. Love or hate them but man they are entertaining. How Jane can get herself into this mess with Rob and defend him again. This book picks up where the second book left off. And I love that, none of this oh so we have to go way back and find out about such and such. Nope none of that.
I love Jane's sparky comments overall and I feel that she is just the same as the first book. Although in this one I love how she is starting to really think about Ben the vet doctor.
Jimmy is still the no nonsense guy that hates Rob and is willing to prove he isn't innocent first. Where Jane is like my client is innocent.
More answers in this book with the first family being murdered and also the second. We get a feel for Jane and how she feels about her sister and Rob again.
Rob is still the I can't stand you guy throughout this whole book. He is just one of those people that you know isn't going to redeem himself no matter the small things he does do. Pick this book up now and the first two in this series. You will not be disappointed. Well maybe a little bit when it ends on a cliffhanger and you are like I so love this but I want the next one now.

The Hamptons Lawyer by Jamess Patterson and Mike Lupica was another great edition to the series.
I really enjoyed the plot and the mystery.
Well developed characters and twists and turns made this a hard one to put down!

Jane Smith is easily my favorite female character created by James Patterson. No matter what is thrown at her, she comes out on top. In this book, she us defending a familiar client. There is enough backstory here to read as a stand alone. She decides to hire a jury consultant, Norma Banks. Norma adds a an exquisite layer to the story, she is 83 years old and full off piss and vinegar. Jane's case is being prosecuted by Katherine Welch, a very fiery, formidable opponent. In typical Patterson fashion, this is an excellent fast paced crime drama, the twist at the end, caught me completely off guard. Read as a stand-alone or as part of the series, you cannot go wrong with Jane "effing" Smith.

Another great addition to this series! I love the wit and banter with the characters and you just can’t help but fall in love with Jane Effing Smith in each book! Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for this copy for read and review

Hamptons defense attorney Jane Smith gets the cases that others consider impossible to win, but she is not to be deterred. Facing down enemies is what she is used to doing, especially since she is battling cancer that seems to have a tenacious hold on her life. In the court case this time, she is once again defending Rob Jacobsen, a former client who just refuses to let her say “no” when he is again on trial for murder. She uses former police detective Jimmy Cuniff to do her investigative work but is not above doing some of the footwork herself. With her handy Glock and her determined spirit of finding out the truth, Jane follows clues no matter where they might lead her and what trouble she might get into following them. I really liked the courtroom antics in this book and the way the prosecutor Katherine Welsh seemed to have a case that was a slam dunk. Jane’s search for the truth leads her and Jimmy into danger and into the dangerous world of gambling, where she discovers all is not as it appears on the surface. I also enjoyed the characters who are dynamically portrayed, with realism, tongue-in-cheek dialogue and a healthy respect for each other. The drama surrounding Jane’s cancer was heartbreaking at times, a battle that she has to face alone in spite of the support of her lover and her friends as well as her doctors. This was a complicated and fast-moving legal drama combined with a whodunit mystery. Both were compelling and offered relentless tension as well as skillful misdirection to keep me guessing. I was intrigued by the mystery and thought that this page-turner was cleverly written and satisfying to me as an armchair detective. With great and sometimes amusing chemistry between the characters, this novel was an entertaining and well-crafted courtroom drama that kept me reading long into the night.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of Never Say Die by James Patterson and Mike Lupica
This novel was just ok for me, I liked the plot and potential that it had but I didn't feel any connect to the characters
I was not aware this was #3 in a series, although I don't think that mattered to how engaging the story was. It was just missing the wow moments for me
I have read James Patterson in the past and have always enjoyed his books

The Hamptons Lawyer (Never Say Die) by James Patterson and Mike Lupics is a riveting Jane Smith thriller. As she fights her personal battle, Jimmy Cunniff fights with her to protect her and gather evidence.

Another Great Jane Smith - probably the best so far. Great ending!
Lots of Janes problems are solved in this one.
Can't wait for the next one!

I was unaware that this was the second book in the series (my oversight). I would like to revisit the first book. While it begins somewhat slowly, the pace accelerates significantly in the third quarter.
Thanks NetGally for the advance copy

I absolutely love Jane Effing Smith! This one picks up where the second one ended. Jane is prepping for another Rob Jacobsen trial while still battling her cancer.. Her relationship with Jimmy is so endearing as is her relationship with Ben. The only relationship in this series that bothers me is the one between Rob and Brigid (but it bothers Jane too)! Definitely looking forward to the next chapter!
One side note - Netgalley says The Hamptons Lawyer, but the copy I downloaded says Never Say Die.. I'm not 100% sure which title will be the published title when it's released.

Once again Jane is defending Rob Jacobsen on trial for murder. She’s also battling cancer and determined to win the trial before the cancer has a chance to claim her life. She’s up against crooked cops and bad guys, murder threats, health issues, threats of contempt of court and more. Loved this book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Full review to come on Goodreads and Amazon. Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for a review copy.
