I've read the other 2 books in this series and I do think it's best to read them in other and not jump around (although you could).
I overall liked the story of Rosie and finding out some of her backstory and family history (like who her dad is).
If you've read the other books, definitely read but it wasn't my favorite of the series.

In the final installment of Megan Bannen's cozy trilogy a sassy immortal meets her match with a stuffy scientist. As we've come to expect from these book Bannen has given us banter, a bit of spice, great characters, dragons, and a bit of danger. This third book ties all the loose plot threads together (including everyone's favorite will-they-won't-they side couple) in a very satisfying package. I'm sad the series is over, because I've really loved the world Bannen has built, and I will be keeping my fingers crossed that she may revisit it again in the future. This series is for anyone who wants a cozy romantasy that stands apart from the others.

I have such mixed feelings surrounding The Underdutting of Rosie and Adam.
I started reading shortly after my grandmother's funeral, so the funeral taking up the first chunk of the book really hit hard and made it challenging for me to continue
The large time jump between books two and three seemed contrived, specifically to allow for the funeral plot and a tool to be able to bring Zeddie and Duckers' together after unseen growth. I would have loved to see how Zeddie and Duckers grew. I felt swindled - this should have been Zeddie and Duckers' book, and Rosie and Adam could have had a spin-off story. the clear avoidance of a queer couple being the MCs felt icky and disheartening. Also, we missed their wedding?! I'm honestly so sad about this decision.
Othwise, I really enjoyed rosie and adam's story quite a lot, even if it did feel slow in some parts and other partss were rather predictable. The slowness felt right for their story, somehow.
Thank you Netgalley, Orbit, and Megan Bannan for the advanced copy of this book.

"The Undercutting of Adam and Rosie" is the third installment in the Hart & Mercy series from Megan Bannen. Like its predecessors, the third book was a sharp, funny, exciting read. Even though it was the third (and final) book in the Hart & Mercy realm, the book could easily work as a standalone.
Protagonist Rosie Fox is a demigod and marshal in Tanria. After 157 years, she finds herself bored with her life. Adventure finds Rosie when Tanria's portals begin to mysteriously malfunction. Enter Adam Lee, an inventor tasked with repairing the portals. Rosie and Adam find themselves trapped in the Mist during portal repairs. While Rosie and Adam appear to be opposites, they find they have more in common than they thought. As their back stories entwine, their relationship grows.
Bannen has a gift for penning sharp, witty banter. She did a great job making Rosie and Adam different from the main couples in the previous stories. Their chemistry popped off the pages. Bannen also did a great job with the plot and pacing. Rosie and Adam's slow-burn romance was developed well. Bannen entwined Rosie and Adam's histories in clever ways.
Duckers was a standout character who appeared in previous installments. It was entertaining to watch his character arc and subplot unfold. He brought a lot of humor to the story. Other secondary characters added humor and dimension to the story as well. Bannen does a terrific job with world-building.
Bannen's unique twist on the paranormal romance genre was compelling. While this may be the end of the Hart & Mercy series, I'm looking forward to reading what she writes next.
Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit (a Hachette imprint) for an ARC. All opinions are my own.

This book was such a fun surprise! Rosie and Adam have amazing banter and chemistry, and I couldn’t stop smiling while reading. Totally loved it!

Thank you so much to Orbit and NetGalley for sending me an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!
I did it, I finished the Hart and Mercy series! And I LOVED IT. This series has been so insanely creative, I can guarantee you've never read a fantasy setting like these. Add in the humor and the live stories? If you enjoy a lighthearted romantasy with s mystery to solve, you're going to love these books. I enjoyed the epistolary, enemies-to- lovers story of Hart and Mercy, and the friends-to-lovers, later in life romance of Frank and Twyla (and all the resulting cameos!). I'm not even sure what Rosie and Adam fall under, trope-wise. Fascination at first sight? Forced proximity? Bringing back Duckers for this one and giving him a romance too? The cherry on top of a beautiful finale to the series.
Rosie the demigod can't die, and this causes a fair amount of issues in relationships for her. She uses this as a Tanrian.... wildlife conservationist? Since the marshals don't have much to do, patrolling-wise anymore. But all hell breaks loose when she gets stuck in Tanria due to broken portals with the creator of said portals himself, Adam, her partner Duckers, and his ex- boyfriend.
Oh man finding out Adam's secret BLEW MY MIND, and I'd love a separate story for his travels alone. I love this series so much, and they'll be added to the reread pile for sure.

This world is so much fun and so cute! I have read about the immortal you hear about in the first 2 books. The sass and lighthearted spirit Rosie has is amazing paired with the more stern kept to himself inventor. The romance dynamic is wonderful! And as always the constant comedic comebacks of Duckers and his long lasting relationship with Zeddie you learn through the previous books. Yes this is an independent stand alone with a full story but you need to read the previous 2 to get the full world building and learning about their gods. this world is well made and thought out. Absolutely loved how everything came to an ending to this universe and am sad I won't see anymore about these wonderful characters.

Thank you to Orbit Books, Hachette Audio, and NetGalley for the gifted ARC & ALC.
The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam is the third installment of the Hart & Mercy trilogy that takes place in the fictional world of Tanria. Megan Bannen has once again made me laugh out loud and feel surprisingly sentimental for such a silly, mostly cozy, fantasy book.
Rosie is a little reckless and also conveniently can’t die (well, she can, but she always comes back) and Adam is such a serious scholar type (in a hot, nerdy way) that when they come together it is just such a great and hilarious example of how opposites attract.
While the second book in the series remains my favorite, this was just delightful, and I loved the way that narrators brought the characters to life in the audiobook. 4.25⭐️

This book was so much fun! Since there have been other books in this series, it was a bit confusing coming into this world. Figuring out how everything worked was a bit challenging, so I would highly recommend picking up one of the other books first to get a better understanding of what is going on. Other than that, I enjoyed the story and the characters. After reflecting on what to mention, I've concluded that the book is quite plot-focused. We don’t get much character development, aside from the main characters opening up to each other. I loved the side characters; they were so cute and funny. There’s something about feeling close friendships that is so comforting.
The romance was on point, with an abundance of yearning and heated looks that made the book special for me. I did feel they fell for each other a bit too quickly for comfort, but it wasn’t overly heavy-handed. The attraction between the characters felt realistic, especially as they began to spend time together; you could feel the chemistry.
Thanks to NetGalley and Orbit Books, I received an ARC for an honest review!

Every time I pick up something from this series, I am reminded exactly how bonkers this world is. And what a world it is.
The romance was good. I enjoyed the otherness that Rosie felt and her thirst for Adam. I also appreciated that we dug a little deeper into the god narrative and world building/ lore of the world for this one since Rosie is a demi-god. I think that this was more of a slow burn, and with how things shook out, it worked. I also enjoyed that the author moved the timeline of this book a little futher so we got snippets of past relationships and how they're doing now as part of the story. So snippets of Hart & Mercy, Twyla & Frank and as always Duckers & Z. Audio book is an excellent way to experience it, the narrators did a great job, and gave Rosie a perfect characterization.
All in all, it many not be my overall favorite of the series, but it was still a very good installment, and I really enjoyed this silly and weird fantasy romance series unlike anything else I've ever read.
Thank you to Orbit, Megan Bannen and Hachette Audio of an early copy.

Final installment of the Hart and Mercy cozy fantasy romance series. Not my favorite of the 3, but still brimming with humor & heart.

Ok , definitely enjoyed this book.
No idea why I haven’t pick up any of the ones before because I do own them but well now they have become a priority.
First of all, I love the world set up for this book, I enjoy that is a series but it can be a stand alone. Now Rosie and Adam . Can I said I enjoy this two way too much. I love how Rosie is full of life and fun. Love her obsession with lingerie and her car . Following her thru this adventure was definitely entertaining and fun. Now Adam , at first I wasn’t sure about him so grumpy, but in the end he end up growing on me . Overall I enjoyed. Definitely on the cozy side.
Now for the audio amazing!!!!!!! Love it so much. Easy to follow. Fun to hear . Definitely 5 out 5 stars

I LOVE THIS SERIES.
I truly don't think there is anything Megan Bannen can writer that I wouldn't love.
This part of the saga follows Rosie, a demi-god Marshall, and Adam Lee the person who invented the portals to Tanria.
Drama ensues. There is mystery, love, friendship, and the best side characters ever.
**Though you don't have to read the first two books first, this book and the side characters will mean more if you do.

One thing about me is that I adore a cozy romantic fantasy, and I loved the first two books of this series. This story brought more information about the world in which the books take place (Tanria), more coziness, and such a cool combination of main characters given their relation (or lack thereof 👀) to mortality.
Rosie is an immortal demigod and Adam is a genius inventor who is sent to fix the portals between the worlds because they have been on the fritz lately. When the portals fail, the two are trapped together in the mist and, as we know, with forced proximity oftentimes come sparks! This book was more of a slow burn than the first two, but the forced proximity and cozy mystery happening help to bring them together in this final book in a wonderful series (but if Megan Bannen ever changes her mind and decides to give us a Zettie and Duckers book, I will be overjoyed!).
Things I loved:
- Found family (strong element throughout the series)
- Excellent banter
- Slow burn
- Forced proximity
- Tall FMC (as a fellow tall FMC, I always appreciate a tall lady!) x short MMC
- More world building
The only thing I didn’t love about this book was that it was a bit slower paced than the first two books and the romance isn’t as front and center, but I loved getting more of all the characters’ stories and being back in Tanria again!!
Thank you to Orbit Books and Netgalley for the eARC copy of this book!

This is a quirky, fun romantic fantasy set in a whimsical world full of dragons and delightfully flawed characters. When Rosie and Adam are forced to team up, their reluctant partnership slowly sparks into something more. I absolutely loved that the female main character is curvy and tall, while the male lead is short, grumpy, and utterly endearing. The cozy, magical atmosphere made the world feel like a warm drink on a cold day.. While the pacing can be a bit slow at times (across all the books), they’re still charming and heartwarming reads. Honestly, I need more books with pink dragons!

Rosie Fox is a marshall of Tanria, the national park accessible only via portal because it used to be a prison for old gods. She loves her job, but when she dies by electrocution (again), things take a bit of a turn. Sure, she's an immortal demigod, so death only stops her for a little while, but her mess-up trying to fix this portal leads to the inventor of portals, the quiet, prickly (and unfairly hot) Dr Adam Lee to come try and fix it. Unfortunately, the shadows that seem to be causing trouble in the portals are only visible to Rosie, but surely the good doctor is up to the task. When things keep going wrong, however, the two of them end up on the wrong side of the portal, trapped together, tasked with saving all of Tanria from these invasive vines. And Adam is definitely hiding something beneath that cool, calm exterior.
This was a delight to read. I haven't read the other two books in the trilogy, and I was able to figure things out pretty easily, so if this is your starting point, I think you'll be fine too. It did definitely make me want to read the other two books, for sure, but as with most romances, they can be done in any order. The world was a lot of fun: simultaneously a little roaring twenties, a little wild west, fairly modern, and with dragons! I love dragons. My point, though, is that the vibes of this world were immaculate. Rosie is a fantastic character; I am a sucker for giant women, apparently. She's so feisty and good and a really good counterpoint to Adam's (understandable) reservedness. His backstory was a great surprise, even though there was foreshadowing (that I was way too dense to see). I also loved the little background romance between Duckers and Zeddy. A good second chance romance always goes hard. This was such a cozy little romance and I really enjoyed it. Like I said, now it's time to hunt down the other two books in the series.

Megan Bannen’s fantasy world of Tanria is one of my favorites. With Undercutting, she continues to make her quirky little world richer by weaving in fairy tales and new adventures around this unusual but delightful pair. Rosie the immortal demigod is finding that being a Tanrian Marshal isn’t nearly as exciting as it used to be. Her routine is shaken up when the portals to travel in and out of Tanria stop working, and she has to assist Dr. Adam Lee, the inventor of the portals, in repairing them or lose access to Tanria and its magic forever. The adventures that ensue when they get trapped inside the mist together is full of good humor and romantic tension… perfect for anyone who loves forced proximity, cozy fantasy, or rom-coms with silly banter.

Bannen closes out this wonderfully charming Hart & Mercy universe with a story full of magic, mayhem, and heart. Rosie and Adam Lee make for a classic grumpy/sunshine trope , and I ate up that slow burn filled with tension, banter and angst! Loved Duckers and Zaddie. The humor mixed in and found-family trope made this finale work for me. I love a quirky and cozy-fantasy and will think of this series often and fondly!

This was a fun and sweet trilogy. Kind of a weird setting but each book had an enjoyable couple to focus on and a nice romance. Spicy when they get around to it but not the over the top we forgot to add a plot spicy. It’s more fantasy with a side if romance than romance in a fantasy setting with nothing else happening. I’ve marked the author to follow on Goodreads and I’m interested to see what they do next.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
This series is so fun and unique. I loved being back in this world and with these beloved characters. I adored Rosie’s character and I enjoyed getting more of Duckers. Adam and Rosie both grew a lot throughout the book.
