Oh, Megan Bannen, how I adore you.
First and foremost: thank you to Netgalley and Orbit for this eARC! I have loved this series since its first book, and The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam was as comical, heartwarming, and magical as I've come to expect from Bannen's writing. Rosie has been one of my favorite characters throughout this whole series and I was so excited to see her get the happy ending (no pun intended lol) that she deserved. Her wit, loyalty, and penchant for luxurious ~undergarments~ solidified her as one of my favorites, and I absolutely adored getting to see my other favorites (cough cough, Duckers, Hart, Mercy, Frank, Twyla) sprinkled in throughout this book. There is nothing like an interconnected standalone series that makes you laugh and yearn and FEEL right alongside its characters, and Megan Bannen has nailed it every time.
This series has been such a guilty pleasure of mine and I have found myself truly invested in this world and with these characters. I will forever be hopeful that there will be more to come in the Tanria universe and look forward to picking up anything Bannen writes in the future. The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam will be released on July 8th, and whether you're returning to this world or just getting started, I hope you love it as much as I do.

I enjoyed Hart & Mercy.
Twyla & Frank left me wanting a little bit.
Rosie & Adam gave me everything I needed in order to bid farewell to Tanria, Bushong, and the world of Eternity.
As always, I love Megan Bannen’s writing. Her characters and stories are truly unique, I frequently laugh and tear up. Even though all the characters are connected, the stories are different enough that they don’t feel repetitive. I wish this wasn’t the last of our adventures in this world, but this was the perfect ending.
There were surprisingly heavy moments in this. I especially loved how the weight of immortality was portrayed. I related a little too well to the absenteeism of Rosie’s father, his redemption genuinely broke my heart. The concept of found home and family with Rosie, Adam, Duckers, and Zeddie was so beautifully written, including all the turmoil and strife that comes with it.
Thank you to Orbit Books, NetGalley, and Megan Bannen for an eARC!

Rosie and Adam were everything! Megan Bannen built a world that is complex and interesting. Watching Rosie and Adam develop feelings for each other was a fun ride, and watching them get over fears and learn to trust in another person. It's all the things you want from a romance. The secondary romance of Duckers and Penrose (my favorite couple) of the series was also awesome!

How many times can underwear be mentioned in one book? This was my recurring question as I followed Rosie, Adam, Duckers, and Zeddy on their adventure to save Tanria. (The answer is approximately one billion)
As a devoted Megan Bannen fan, this was an auto-read for me. As always, she delivered on whimsy with sparkle-vomiting dragons and a delightful new bipedal nimikin. Plus, we are blessed with plenty of beloved cameos from the first two books.
I’d been especially looking forward to Rosie’s story. She’s been so cool and badass in the background of the past books, but in this installment, her fixation on her “quality undergarments” started as weird and quickly became a weirdly specific and often inappropriate personality trait. It left me wanting more depth, especially as her connection with Adam felt a bit rushed and unearned. That said, her 6'8 neurodivergent-presenting chaos paired with his 5'2 brilliant, fussy sweetness was just so deliciously specific and lovely.
Duckers (my beloved) was on terrible behavior for a good chunk of the book and honestly I am sad that Duckers and Zeddy didn't get a book of their own.
Despite a rocky middle, the last third definitley stuck the landing. Bannen pulled everything together for a satisfying, heartfelt close to a series I’ve genuinely loved. I especially loved how much we learned about the mythology of Tanria. I'm genuinely bummed the series is over and can't wait to see what
Thank you to Megan Bannen and Orbit Books for my unbiased review on this arc. I wouldn't be sad if we got a Ducky and Zeddy novella...

Truly an amazing ending to an amazing series.
I love so much about Tanria, and already feel a hole where it lived in me now that it’s over. Thank you Megan Bannen for reinvigorating the romance genre to me.
Thank you to Net Galley and Orbit books for the ARC!

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Orbit for an advanced copy of this book!
4.5 First off, I love this quirky, whimsical world and its host of characters, beasts included. I LOVED the first two books in the series and this did not disappoint. I love the unconventional couple, the dilemma they face, the SIDE characters (oh Penny D and Zeddie), found family, and a beautiful ending to a truly unique trilogy. Can't WAIT to see what Megan does next!!!!!

Tanria is in danger and needs to be evacuated. A ragtag team works together to ensure everyone else is out, keeping the portals open as long as possible, before being trapped indefinitely. What follows is an emotional journey figuring out how to escape and be able to move on, while also holding on to what makes each person special.
I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, finding myself so happy to be back in the world Megan Bannen has created, with cameos from the other characters in the series thus far. The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam takes place after a considerable gap from the previous book, which took a second to reorient myself. However, once I was in, I was committed to finishing and see the story through. I felt the ending was incredibly perfect for Rosie and Adam, specifically, and loved it.
What is the point of living forever, if love is only temporary?

There's some odd time hops that don't add up considering previous characters' kids and what have you. I still enjoyed this and would continue the series if the author chose to. I did enjoy the ending, and I really liked Adam and Rosie's dynamic. My second favorite relationship after Hart & Mercy.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, and of course the author for giving me this ARC and loving in this world!

This is on ARC I was really excited to get!! Thanks NetGalley.
As with the other books in this series, it was a bit of a slow start for me but then I got caught up in it all and really enjoyed it.
The time jumps between books threw me off a little, but nothing I couldn’t get over.
And suddenly towards the end my brain decided Kurt Russel as the dad in guardians of the Galaxy 2 was the trickster and I think I might die on this hill.

I enjoyed stepping back into this crazy world. It's wacky, imaginative, and unlike any of the other fantasy books I've read. Wholly unique and creatively written. I absolutely loved Rosie and Adam. They were a perfect pair, and so sweet.

My only issue with this book is that it's over! 😭 I became enthralled with the world of Tanria earlier this year, and I am not ready to leave it just yet!
The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam dealt with some heartbreaking themes of loss and the complexities of family relationships. Rosie was such a badass FMC, but also had so much baggage that made her incredibly relatable.
I think my favorite thing about Megan Bannen's writing, though, is the way she sprinkles in little foreshadowing reminders. Rather than smacking you upside the head and saying "hey, this thing that I'm referencing is probably going to be important!" she sneaks little references in that make you go "Oh yea, I totally forgot that we were discussing that earlier.." and then BAM! it's the twist of the story.
The chaos and adventure in these books has made this series my #1 recommended fantasy series this year. Move over Harry Potter and Fourth Wing.. there's a better world to explore!!

I absolutely loved the characters in this book. Rosie is adorable and sweet while Adam is serious and lovable. Duckers is the perfect side character throughout the series and I just love him. I will miss this series now that it is done. The world is unlike any other I have read about and I truly have enjoyed it. Overall wonderful series.

I was so excited to revisit the world of the Tanrian Marshalls, and the journey did not disappoint! I loved seeing characters from the first two books reappear in this story, and the uniqueness and intricacy of Rosie and Adam’s personal stories made for some very heartfelt moments. The Trickster’s appearance throughout was fun, and Rosie’s sass towards everyone kept the book plenty lighthearted while exploring some very heavy topics.
Thank you to Orbit for an early copy!

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily posting a review. All opinions are my own.
While I really enjoyed The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy, I struggled with the second book, ultimately DNFing it due to pacing. However, despite any reservations I had going into the final book, The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam, I ended up really enjoying it, and it redeemed the series for me.
Rosie and Adam were such fun characters to follow, and I love how they defy common character archetypes of the genre. To start with the basics, I love that their dynamic flips the common tall guy/tiny girl trope, by having her be tall, and him be short (without that being overemphasized). I also loved Rosie as an immortal lead, and how the story leaned into and played with aspects of that, as well as the brief discussion of infertility on her part, which is not magically cured. Their dynamic is such an interesting one too, as they’re quite similar, both being rather prickly and standoffish, but with a softness underneath. Their banter, which gave way to sweetness, was really lovely to watch.
There was a heck of a lot going on in this book too, even beyond that central romance. There’s also a side romance with Pen and Zeddie, which was also quite cute, in spite of them not being POV characters. I’m very picky with books that include multiple romance arcs, but this one did a good job of centering Rosie and Adam as the primary couple, but still delivering enough of Pen and Zeddie (and even a mix of other characters, new and old) to keep me invested in all the characters and their connections to one another within this world.
And speaking of “a lot going on,” this was the polar opposite of the last book for me. The romance was compelling, plus the external plot had some intriguing stakes, albeit without completely shattering the “cozy” veneer of the series overall.
I had a lot of fun with this book, and would recommend it to readers who are interested in cozy romantasy.

📖 Bookish Thoughts
This one didn’t quite deliver for me, but definitely wasn't a bad reading experience . I was just hoping for something a little more fun and romcom-y, with more of a fantasy quest vibe. The premise had potential and there were moments I enjoyed, especially the humor sprinkled throughout, but overall, it didn’t fully land. The pacing also felt uneven throughout the book.
I had a hard time connecting with both Rosie and Adam. Their romance, especially from Adam’s side, felt a little surface level and leaned into insta-lovey territory. I found the writing to be overly descriptive and repetitive at times. A large portion of the first half focused on Rosie’s frustration with immortality, and while I understand that was central to her arc, it started to feel like we were circling the same emotional ground. That said, I did really like Rosie as a main character. She was confident and had some genuinely funny moments. I just wish the humor that peeked through had been more consistent.
Do yourself a favor and listen to the audiobook! It was fantastic both narrators delivered and brought personality to the characters.

Thank you to Orbit Books, Hachette Audio, and NetGalley for the advanced copy. All thoughts are my own.

I was so excited to venture back into this world and it did not disappoint! I didn’t realize this was the end of the series though. I’ll be very sad not to read anything new about Tanria.
Book three focuses on Rosie, obviously. She’s a riot. I was really excited about spending some time in her head because we meet her in previous books and hear about her a lot but don’t really get to know her well. This book is set several years ahead of book two. Rosie is an immortal demigod and she’s kind of sad about it. She enjoys life anyway, does her new job and just tries to be an optimist.
She’s paired with Duckers and we get a little story about him too. He’s as lovely as ever and a really interesting foil to Rosie.
When the portals start to malfunction and Rosie dies, the inventor himself arrives to check things out. Things go poorly from there until they don’t and everyone gets a HEA after suffering through the drama.
There was some pretty heavy foreshadowing in this book so the big twist wasn’t a twist at all. I was kind of relieved it was finally revealed. Seeing as it’s not really the point of the book, it didn’t bother me that it was so obvious. The love story is the focus and it follows a pretty cool mystery.
Rosie and Adam are sweet and the rest of the characters are as wonderful as they were in books 1 & 2.
I loved this book and the whole series and definitely recommend it.

I didn’t have confirmation until I reached the acknowledgments of this book that this is the conclusion of this series, and what a lovely conclusion it is! This fantasy world is quirky and strange, but Megan Bannen has created a cast of characters with a lot of heart, emotion, personality, and realism. The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam is a fitting closure to these interconnected stories of family, love, service, and humanity.
Rosie was a fun character to read in the first portion of this book. Her personal motto is “Act first, think never,” and she certainly does live by that motto! (Reminder: She is an immortal demigod.) I wasn’t too sure how much I’d like her from the sneak peek of her in Book 2, because she had a bit of a “dude bro” vibe. But, she just had her own trauma and issues to address, and she had subtle but appropriate growth over the course of this book.
I like that each of the main characters of this series has their own distinct personality, and the same is true for Adam. I thought the beginning of their romance arc gave opposites attract vibes, but we learn eventually that they have more in common than what you can determine at first glance. Megan Bannen did a nice job of making Rosie and Adam balance each other.
While I liked Rosie and Adam as characters, their romance arc didn’t feel as well-developed to me as the others in Books 1 and 2. It felt a little bit like their relationship just came out of nowhere. They weren’t, and then all of the sudden they were.
It wasn’t that their attraction to each other was missing, because it was established, but the commencement of their relationship was very abrupt, or at least it felt that way to me. I think perhaps the conflict took precedence over the romance arc, and that’s why the shift from attracted individuals to a couple felt sudden.
Outside of that critique, though, I was pleased with how the plot of this story played out. I felt the conflict in this book matched the emotional depth of the conflict in Book 1, which I appreciated, but I am someone who enjoys emotional nitty-grittiness in my books! This maintained the cozy vibe with not-too-high stakes.
Lastly, I really appreciate and applaud the way in which Megan Bannen fleshes out her side characters. I loved Hart and Mercy’s presence in this book, and there are other important side characters who still got their time to shine and their own development throughout this conclusion.
The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam releases on July 8, 2025.

This was a really great wrap to a truly unique series. I love the characters and the world that we've got to know over these three books and I'm sad there won't be more!
I loved getting to see Hart and Rosie's relationship. I also really love her partnership with Duckers. I was really invested in Duckers and Zeddie's relationship and I feel like I felt more tension there than with the main couple.
I really enjoyed being in Rosie's head and hearing her thoughts on immortality. Her relationship with her father was layered and I loved the progression we got.
I do wish that Rosie and Adam's relationship felt like a more authentic build. I really liked both of them as individuals, but I didn't truly feel like I felt the build of the relationship that I love. Maybe if their first encounter from years before had been little more fleshed out I would have felt the longing more.
Overall I loved being with these characters again and really hope this won't be the last we see of them!
Thank you to Netgalley and Orbit for the advanced review copy!

4.25⭐️
Wowww, who is cutting onions?! This was a fantastic end to a stellar cozy romantasy series. I loved our quirky demigod Rosie, and our quiet short king Adam. I enjoyed how much we got of Duckers in this one and getting to know Zeddie a bit more. The pacing was a little slow to start, but once it got going, I was fully invested and it was hard to put down! I loved the additional fairytale aspect of this one, and the role Rosie’s dad plays in it. This one also makes you think about life a little differently when you have the perspective of an immortal who would never have an option of ‘rest’, while continuing to outlive those she loves. This installment felt like it had more layers to it than its predecessors and is a must-read conclusion!
We get:
💘Funny, quirky 6’5” demigod FMC
💘 Smart, reserved, 5’5” (with shoes on) inventor MMC
💘 Cameos of all your favs
💘 Fairytale aspects
💘 Only one dragon
💘 Forced proximity
💘 Slow burn
💘 Age gap 🤭

4.5 ⭐️
I truly loved this book! It was semi insta-lovey but they still had the slow burn to actually acting on those feelings.
The constant back and forth of if plans were working or not really kept me entertained and invested!
I also LOVED how much time Duckers had to shine in this book and how his ending resulted 🥰🥰🥰
Their love was fun, especially with the twists that happened. This book had me laughing constantly. This felt the closest to how I felt reading Hart and Mercy since the series started!
Also so happy to have such full details of precious characters and watching how their stories evolved so many years after they started!
Thank you to NetGalley, for providing me with an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. All thoughts are my own and are in no way influenced by early access to this title.
