Literal tears and goosebumps as I finish the latest and probably the last book in the Tanria universe. I absolutely have loved this series like you wouldn’t believe, when you read as many books as I do, it’s hard to feel like what you are reading is unique and this entire series has felt unique and new and alive to me.
The World that Megan Bannen has created is just so rich with lore and history that was only expanded upon in this book has me absolutely enthralled. I would want to live in side her brain forever, because it is so much better than anything I could imagine.
Rosie and Adam were the most perfect wrap-up, that I could imagine. If you are as big of a fan of this series as I was, rest assured, you will not be left wanting for any additional info and will be well satisfied where everyone ends up. As for speaking about the respective couple themselves, prepare yourself for a slow burn of epic proportion.
I absolutely love Rosie, she is such a dynamic character and is so free in her emotions and how she wears her heart on her sleeve. She is a badass, tall AF, with a heart of gold and she is not afraid of letting people know it. She has her own vulnerabilities however, and I love how strong she can be and how that doesn’t change when she allows herself to let down her guard and be vulnerable.
Adam was also a very interesting character that I was surprised by at multiple points. His mysteriousness was very intriguing and his character arc tugged at my heart strings multiple times.
Rosie’s dynamic with her father, a god, was also at the center of the story and that too tugged at my heart strings. I feel like this story was very cathartic and dealt a lot different forms of grief whether, parental, guilt, loss, immortality and death. I could probably write a whole dissertation on this book, but I’ll spare you all and simply say that it is a must read. I can’t wait to read what Megan Bannen writes next.

I don’t know if anything will top Hart and Mercy for me, but The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam was a fun ride and definitely worth the read!
If you have made it this far into the series, you are familiar with the interconnected romantic comedies in this fantastical world of Tanria. I imagine something like the Barbie movie world in my head. This one is opposites attract love story between the demi-god Rosie, and the engineer Adam. If I had to rate all three, Hart and Mercy take top spot, Rosie and Adam are a close second, and Twyla and Frank are strongly holding up the rear. I am not the biggest romantasy fan, but there is something about a whimsical rom com and Megan Bannen’s comedy that works for me!
Thank you, NetGalley and Orbit, for an early copy in exchange for this honest review.

Oh how I wanted to love this book as much as I adored the rest of the series! But alas, while I mostly like it, I didn't love it. First, the good: if you appreciated the whimsical banter that Bannen delivered in the previous two books, you'll experience more of the same here. The not so great:I felt a little bogged down by overly descriptive writing. Oddly, in places where this same style of writing worked previously in the series, it now felt forced and distracting to me. The romance felt too weak, just instalove with little chemistry or tension.
It's not you, it's me — I think maybe it's just been too long since I spent time in this world — but this was my least favorite of the series. Hart and Mercy was amazing, Twyla and Frank was solid, and this one just lacked the same oomph as its predecessors. If world-bending whimsy and sarcastic banter are your jam, though, please do give this a shot ... your mileage may vary!
Thank you to Orbit Books, NetGalley, and Megan Bannen for an advance copy for honest review. I still have heart-eyes for Bannen's work in general and will definitely be looking for her future novels.

"The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam" by Megan Bannen is a delightful conclusion to a beloved trilogy. Following the journey of Rosie, an immortal Tanrian Marshal, and Adam, her seemingly emotionless counterpart, the book captures the charm of a fantastical world filled with humor, adventure, and a touch of romance. The dynamic between the unconventional main characters, along with the return of familiar faces, makes for an engaging and heartwarming read. While the romance takes a backseat initially, the chemistry between Rosie and Adam develops into a satisfying relationship. The story beautifully balances light-hearted moments with deeper themes of friendship, family, and self-discovery.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Orbit Books for the ARC.
I knew I wouldn't be disappointed by this read because I love the entire series.
The story, the characters, and the writing gripped me from the start, and I really enjoyed the dialogues.
One of the most unique aspects of the book is its worldbuilding. It doesn’t resemble anything else I’ve read, and I was so happy to get back into it.
The character of Rosie is very endearing, and Duckers… he might be one of my favorite characters ever. His presence has become so comforting.
My only complaint is that there were a few moments where events felt a bit repetitive, which slightly slowed the pacing and made some situations feel a little "useless."
I’m so sad that this series is over (I think?), but this was a great conclusion.

I love these books so much!! This world is so unique, just like the characters. This book tugs at your heart strings, makes you laugh, and provides the perfect escapism. The romance is adorable! I cannot say enough good things. This book, this whole series is well worth the read!!

This book is a sweet ending to the stories in Tanria. I really loved the character development of Rosie. She is a confident and independent woman but you see her deal with a lot of different emotions with her relationships with friends and her father. I have always loved Duckers in this series and am glad he was a big part of this book. The first half of the book dragged for me at first, but I loved the way the author ended the book.

This was just a great read. I was just drawn into this story so thoroughly. I just had so much fun reading this story.

Wow. Just wow.
Megan Bannen created one of the most unique and beautiful stories I've read in a long time. My only regret is that I didn't read the first two books in the series prior to reading Rosie and Adam's story. That being said, I don't think a person needs to read them in order to appreciate this book. Megan Bannen's writing is excruciatingly beautiful and it was so easy to get lost in this incredible world she has created.
Rosie Fox is a red-eyed, not-red-haired demigod stuck in a cycle of living and dying and living again, watching the world around her change and mourning the loss of those close to her as they continue to age and she doesn't.
Adam Lee is an inventor, responsible for creating portals that allow mortals to venture in and out of the land of the Old Gods, Tanria, that was separated by the Mist following a Great War long ago.
These unlikely lovers end up trapped together when the portals unexpectedly break down and they are no longer able to safely exit Tanria. An ominous and ever-present briar is growing inside Tanria and has weaved its way inside the portals destroying any hope of repairing them. But Rosie and Adam are determined to find a way out with the help of their two companions, Duckers and Zeddie, who were unlucky enough to be trapped inside Tanria with them.
I fell head over heels in L-O-V-E with these characters, each of them so complex and interesting and hilarious and adorable. I can't tell you how many times I rolled around laughing while reading this book. And while I think I got whiplash from the quick progression of Rosie and Adam's relationship, given their situation, it made sense. It's likely easier to fall in love when things look bleak and you've found someone to hold onto in those desperate and hopeless moments. The chemistry between our two main characters was unquestionably present and their love was the soft kind which absolutely melted me.
This was the easiest 5 stars I've given this year and I'm chomping at the bit to read the rest of the books in this series.

3.5 Stars
Its hard not to compare these others books to the first one with Hart and Mercy. I loved the first book so much, but unfortunately the next two books have just not really lived up to the first for me. I always hope that they will.
I thought the overall premise of this book was interesting. The portals are failing and only Rosie can see these shadows and vines that are impacting them. Tanaria has to be evacuated before they are stuck there for forever. This is where Adam comes into play. He is the inventor of these portals and they won't be able to fixed without his help. Before they can't everyone evacuated however, Rosie, Adam plus two others become stranded. This book then follows these four as they try to figure out what's going on and how to escape.
My favorite character was Duckers. I enjoyed him a lot I liked his blunt comments to Rosie and the impacts of her dying (although immortal) has on him and her other friends. Trying to make her understand that her life matters even if she can't truly die. Unfortunately though, I did not really like Rosie that much and I had a hard time getting behind the romance of her and Adam. It felt rushed and I never really felt that tension between them. So when they did get together it didn't feel that full filling.
My favorite part of this book was actually the end with the trickster god. For a character that was barely in this book. Bannen did a great job making me feel connected to him and emotions I didn't expect. I really thought this was really well done.
I will continue though to read from Megan Bannen. Hart and Mercy is one of my favorite books and I am hoping that we'll see more from her. I just hope that maybe it'll be from a different world this time.
Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit books for this advanced reader copy. My review is voluntarily my own.

This was just really fun and sweet!
Rosie and Adam work so well together. I love the combination of an exuberant woman and a dry and reserved man (especially when the uptight guy gets all flustered and blushy).
I appreciate that Megan took a chance with this weird fantasy western romance series. It is unique, and I have enjoyed visiting it every time.
Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit for a free eARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam follows Rosie, a demigod who can't die. Well, can't stay dead. She meets Adam five years prior. Adam is the portal engineer who keeps the portals to Tanria running. When the portals keep having issues Adam returns and Rosie and her Marshall partner Penrose Duckers are tasked with keeping Adam safe while he attempts to fix the portals.
It was really lovely to see the characters from previous books in the series in this one. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep the book interesting but very little romance to speak of until maybe 75% in if that is what you are looking for. Overall a lovely end to the trilogy.

I’ve been enjoying this series but for some reason this one fell off at points for me. I still love and look forward to the world itself but I expected more.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a copy of this arc in exchange for my honest review.
Wow, just wow. This book and series have left me completely speechless. When I picked up the first book almost one year ago, I had no idea this series would become one of my favourites. I could probably sit here and write an entire ten-page essay on everything I loved about this book, but alas, I will try condensing it to a more reasonable-size review. This book had me crying, laughing, and giggling while I kicked my feet. A lot of these emotions had to do with the characters. The characters are all so wonderful, deep, and complex (yes, even Adam the brick wall). Adam is a character who is very closed off and dry at the start of the book, which usually doesn’t make a loveable character, but I loved him from the beginning. Something about Adam immediately makes him loveable (that something is named Rosie).
Rosie is confident, badass, sexy, sassy, and completely oblivious. I absolutely adored her. Rosie and Adam are complete opposites but work so well together. They are wonderful characters on their own, but they bring out a whole new depth within each other, helping to create complex characters. Duckers. There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe my love for him. I am so happy he played a prominent role in this book, and my only wish is that Duckers and Zeddie had their own book or even a short story. This book and series are for those who love cozy fantasy romances, dragons (with a twist), standout and memorable characters, and unique world-building. This series has quickly become one of my favourites, and I cannot recommend it enough.

First and foremost, this was sweet. And refreshing. Some things I figured out early, or maybe I just picked up on the foreshadowing, other plot points were new (obviously I can’t say what those are right now lol). My main qualms with this book (but I also see them as quirks of this fantasy world)is the random real world technology. Like, there aren’t any phones, but there’s orthodontia. Also, the FMC said “my dude” a few too many times. Loved her sense of style though.
This rarely happens to me anymore, but this book had a trope I’ve never read before: the FMC is like a foot taller than the MMC. It definitely made me think on my own biases, which honestly was a delight.

Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit Books for the opportunity to read this ARC! All opinions are my own.
What a beautiful ending to this wonderful, wacky, magical, and romantic journey! I didn’t think anything could top Hart and Mercy’s story, but Rosie and Adam’s sure comes close!
Bannen did such a wonderful job showcasing Rosie and Adam’s characters while also weaving in everything that I loved from the previous two books. If you haven’t read any of this series before… first, what are you doing? You need to read it now! And second - there’s something about this world that is both fantastical and cozy that makes me love it so much. The combination of magical creatures, small town shenanigans, and heartwarming romance makes me feel like I’m coming home every time I open the next book.
Rosie and Adam were the perfect balance for each other - Rosie, with her bold, unapologetic, and charming personality, and Adam, with his quiet, dry, and stoic demeanor. The way they came to understand each other and find comfort in their shared misfortunes was so wonderful to watch unfold. They were both felt so stuck in the world (for reasons that I can’t explain because *spoilers*) and found freedom as individuals and in their love for each other.
And it wouldn’t be a book about Bushong with Duckers! Seeing him go from the new Tanrian Marshal that got on Hart’s nerves to a man respected by Hart and Rosie alike had me tearing up by the end.

I love this series. This installment is about Rosie, a super confident, quirky daughter of a God who has to help with a problem with the Tanria portals. I like Rosie's character, she feels uniquely bold, but also has some interesting baggage surrounding immortality. My favorite part of these books is probably that the author is great at giving sweet vulnerable yet small moments for her love interests. We get to spend lots of time with Duckers, Zeddie and the dragons again which is so fun. We also get to briefly see other favorite people from the other books. Despite really enjoying myself the only weak part about this is Adam. He's quiet and stoic, which can be a good contrast to a character like Rosie, but I think a side effect in this case is that we don't really get to know him until the end of the book. I recommend reading the first book and if you enjoy it I think you will like the rest of the series like I do.

This one’s my least favorite in the series so far, but still such a fun, easy read. I couldn’t quite connect with Rosie— Duckers tho? Aghhh I love him.
That said, I’m fully committed to this series and will keep reading whatever comes next!

An absolutely perfect ending to this series! I didn't realize this was the end until I finished and I'm definitely sad to say goodbye to these characters but my god, this entire series was so good. It's so easy to fall in love with the characters and their relationships with one another. Guaranteed to get you in your feels and still reach a happy ending. Megan Bannen, I'll read anything you write. I cannot recommend these enough, please read them in order! Thank you so much for the ARC, Netgalley!

I love the hilarity of the writing in these books. I was laughing so much. But nothing beats the first book. Again, this is really just a fantasy book with a bit of romance in there. And it felt like the pacing was off. Like some things it took forever for them to get to and then other things happened so fast. It was a good way to wrap up the series though.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Orbit books for an advanced copy of this book.
